Fast becoming my favourite Cambridge Pub. The Italian food is great and the family that run it are always welcoming. Eating lunch there accompanied with young children was a very comfortable experience. There is am extensive range of beers and the coffee is good too.

Outstanding Italian cuisine as good as you’ll find anywhere. A huge 12 out of 10 for the rigatoni ragu. Friendly service with a smile. A big hit from a big foodie. Looking forward to our return. Bellissimo 👌🏻

If you’re looking for consistently good food, excellent drinks, cocktails, brilliant atmosphere and great crowd overall - this is your spot. Cambridge is blessed to have this independent, family run business at the heart of the centre. Service is above anything you’d expect, the staff are friendly and happy to help, and even the crowd is all friendly and good vibes. The pub has a history of cocktails from award winning family, and Italian roots so the kitchen is Italian street food meets British pub. Such a unique menu made with finesse. The drinks are carefully selected and craft beer, different to any taps you see anywhere else and genuinely tasty, different beers. This is the place to be, for any occasion. Don’t miss out!

Myself and my boyfriend returned here on Sunday for our first anniversary as it is where we initially met, and the staff were just so so lovely, they heard it was a celebration for us so brought a delicious brownie with a candle! Totally unexpected and such a kind gesture, will definitely be returning regularly and highly recommend. Such a lovely outdoor area too and delicious food!

Fantastic place! We sat in the beer garden under a heater and had beer and pizza and honestly it was the best pizza I have had in a long time. It was amazing. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was really good. If we were local we would frequent this place all the time.

The CAMRA beer guide does not do justice to the food side to this really friendly family run pub. There is a regular menu but also specials which were described as "Italian street food" - this was truly excellent. CAMRA did got one thing right - the beer is also very good with a range of about 8 beers at any one time.

Was in a group of 5 (4 drinking and me). Just wanted some tap water, but was refused this. Told to buy something or leave. Awfully rude, and never experienced being singled out from a group of paying customers in such a way. I just think that's not good enough, and I won't be going back. There are much friendlier local run pubs in Cambridge. Wouldn't recommend.

Family owned and run, a rarity in Cambridge, the Maypole has consistently served the best range of superbly-kept beers in town, over many, many years. To be fair, it's pricey, but the pub is simple and elegant, the family and staff are attentive and knowledgeable, and the beer is always top-notch, so it is worth the extra few pennies. They also serve cracking pizzas to soak up some of the ale. Well-placed in the town too, just out of sight of the main tourist drag.

Very good experience for my first pub visit post lock down. The service was outstanding, sat down instantly and drinks were on the table unbelievably fast! The team were very friendly and every measure was in place to make you feel safe and comfortable, but not alienated. That ‘pub’ feel is still very much there. Super range of beers, as always at The Maypole. Sectioners between tables makes it feel like you have your own booth, but a good atmosphere is not lost. Drinks are delivered on a tray to keep distance between server and yourself, plus many other precautions in place to put safety first. Recommend!

Came here for a couple of drinks with my housemates now that we're allowed back into the pubs! The staff were so friendly and following all guidelines making sure that everyone was seated 1 metre apart and everything was clean before we got in. Considering this is the first day they're back open they've been really professional and well planned about the whole operation. Really happy to be back and Vincent, Ben and Anastasia in particular who were all working table service and helping out were brilliant. ! !

We went here on two evenings while on a short stay in Cambridge. There were over thirty ales on cask or keg and around twenty bottles and cans including some Belgian classics. What is really good is that the landlord and staff are knowledgeable about the ale. The menu was interesting and the food we had on both nights was well presented and very tasty. I think a day trip to Cambridge just to visit the Maypole is in order.

It’s very rare to find a place in central Cambridge that looks after you so well. We absolutely love coming here whenever we are in the city. Always a warm and friendly welcome here and they are so very accommodating with a fantastic selection of beer on offer too. Today we went for lunch to celebrate my mum and sister’s Birthday. We usually like to sit outside, but today this popular pub was busy and it was raining too so as all the covered seats were already in use we went ventured inside. Our lovely hosts opened up the upstairs area to allow us to dine together. We sampled many of the stouts and porters as we favour the darker beers and they were all very enjoyable. Our group enjoyed burgers, pizzas and pasta dishes from the menu and all were delicious and authentic. We were so well looked after during our visit today and can’t thank all at the Maypole enough for all of their efforts. Hope to see you soon.

Después de disfrutar de las delicias de una tarde soleada de primavera en Cambridge, un amigo, cuyo hijo estaba en la universidad de Selwyn, recomendó este pub por sus cervezas. No me decepcionó.

Principalmente estudiantes y gente amable. We went to the Maypole on Saturday lunchtime, the pub was busy but, not crowded. Clean tables, not sticky, good service with an Italian bias on the menu. I choose the Meatball and Mozzarella Ciabatta, sliced tasty meatballs and sauce, washed down with one of many beers & lagers available. My wife had the Boscaiola, smoked bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and peas. She ordered the small portion which was plenty. We were a small group of 2 families, 4 adults and 4 children and having just had a nice Birthday lunch in town we decided to take the children to the park within Jesus Green. On the way, we stopped in at The Maypole for a drink as it looked on the outside a nice pub. We ordered a not to cheap round of drinks and had the pick of tables in the bar area as it was pretty much empty. Now, if like us you're not too keen on your children sitting at the table playing on electronic devices totally disengaged with the real world and of course conversation then you'd have an alternative, in our case a simple card game designed for interaction and fun. After only a few minutes of playing this we were told by the barman to quieten down in a not too friendly manner. I asked why? I was told that we were too loud and upsetting other people in the pub and even in the garden and furthermore I was told to my face that he didn't like my attitude as to why I should even question him! Whilst this altercation was going on the other member of bar staff (female) was goading my wife by staring and asking what is her problem. We didn't quieten down, we simply finished our drinks and left. We would have had another round or two of drinks as well, so their loss.Awful staff, aggressive, Ill mannered and seemingly not a care in the world for their reputation or customers. AVOID.

Heard good things about this pub so decided to have lunch here. My wife had the ciabatta with ham and cheese which she enjoyed. I had the meat balls and penne pasta, the pasta was too al dente and thus very hard, the meat balls unde seasoned and somewhat bland. The gentleman behind the bar was very enthusiastic, he gave me a sample of a beer which I told him was vinergary, he told me it had been on three days! I tried another beer which was ok. Not to impressed when I overheard the owner or manager telling him to recommend a beer that was not selling, however not surprised as it was £6 a pint, the other beers were over £4 a pint which I feel is somewhat expensive. Other pubs in Cambridge price was £3.50/£3.60.

This much loved pub has been run by the Castiglione family for thirty years . Although it's very popular, there is a large outside seating area , two downstairs rooms and a party room upstairs so you can usually find a corner. The main attraction at the Maypole is the excellent, ever changing real ale and craft beer selection but they were also the first pub in Cambridge to do cocktails , there's a gin menu and they're into real cider too. My favourite thing on the food menu are the pick your own toppings pizzas which are perfect for sharing with friends . Proper Italian coffee too . Nice pub, it was having a mini beer festival and as the weather was good most people remained outside. Nice garden area, but the outside of the pub was littered with bikes making access not great. Good beer selection, high prices v other local pubs

The pub is run by a lovely Italian family, who are so friendly and welcoming. It has a lovely atmosphere, its really lovely in the summer when you can sit out in the rustic style garden. The food is amazing, the salt and pepper squid was the best thing I have ever eaten!

Have eaten here many times in the past, and it never disappoints. There is always a friendly welcome and very good service, the food is always good, the late breakfast is exceptional, not cheap but well worth it. The selection of real ales and craft beers is fantastic.

We visited this place as part of the hen weekend.Unfortunately we visited it on a night when they had a 'whisky and rum' night, the place was absolutely packed, very very loud and we could not get a drink, a place to sit down and it took ages to get to the toilets, and they were not serving cocktails. The place looked very nice and I am sure it would be a nice place to go normally but our visit was not a good one.

The only thing I do not like of this place is that is often overcrowded, but this is because it's just lovely!Tables and chairs (inside and outside) are so shabby chic and adorable, the radiators keep you warm during cold winter evenings and the range of beers and wines available always surprises me. For me is a must.

Overall this is a good pub where I have had some really good nights with friends and family, including a family do where we pretty much took over the whole vicinity. I have also experienced some shoddy service at this pub, but not by any of the young staff. When I go to the bar I always hope to be served by a young person as the slightly older employees seem to forget what manners and customer loyalty stand for. If I ran a pub and someone asked for a coke, I would perhaps let them know half a pint is £2 and a pint is £3. In this case I was not told about this and spent £2 on half a pint of coke instead of getting a pint (Which would have worked well for the both of us). For me, this just didn't feel like we were being respected in the slightest (I later found out this was the landlord who served me). Also, my friends have all commented on a lady who works in this pub to be quite rude to them (unless buying shot after shot and giving them your entire paycheck, where they respect you to the utmost and even let you make so much noise in the garden that the other punters leave)

Ate here twice in quick succession a few months ago. The welcome is warm, service good. My only other thought is that so many pubs, now seem to be really more, restaurants, and the prices for food and beer seemed steep to me. Compared to the two pubs close by, on the main road, this pub is much, much better. Worth the serch to discover it for sure. Just beside the Park St Car Park.

My wife and I went for a late lunch because of the claim of a good Belgian Beer selection. The pub was small, intimate and friendly. The owner was quite friendly and we chatted about beer. The Belgian selection was quite good - somewhat smaller than that of the Cambridge Blue, which is very large. They also have a good selection of other international beers. The real ale selection was very good - but not as much interest to us. The food was very good pub food - ham, eggs and chips for me and a Boar Burger for my wife. Overall, a very nice experience and we'll return when in the neighborhood.

One of the best selections of beer in Cambridge, good quality food and a very friendly boozer. This place is one of my all time favourites and never disappoints. Look out for their beer festival.

Creatively, they asked £5.75 for a large glass of house white wine. "Don't you think that's pricey?" I asked. "To be honest, no", the barman ventured. On a previous visit a couple of years before, one of the bar staff told us that the wine was priced high to 'keep the riff-raff out'. We responded by boycotting the place forever but I had unfortunately forgotten this last week and drifted in like a typical bit of 'riff-raff' who clearly would not like their anti-riff-raff pricing! The place really is not so prestigious that they can charge this sort of premium. It needs a refurbishment, it's got some tatty furniture, and perhaps moving it from the shadow of the multistorey car park might just start to justify this sort of pricing. This particular bit of 'riff-raff' will not be back. So their policy worked. QED! And they may well be losing other customers.

I often used to visit this pub when I was a student in Cambridge some years ago. I was delighted to find that it is just the same when I visited again recently. The pub has been run by the same family (originally from Italy) for over 30 years and is a wonderfully friendly place. There is aways a great range of real ales on tap and the food is fantastic, good British pub grub with Italian influences, including my favourite the lasagne, which is a must have. The maypole is very popular with both students and local residence alike which is often quite unusual in Cambridge.

...and we were not disappointed! A friend had recommended it so we made our way here for about 1145am. Got in and were delighted with the massive choice of beers. Several were tried of course, and even the outside area (a couple of our party smoked) was a good space to socialise. Food wise they have a simple traditional pub fayre menu along with some Italian dishes. We all went traditional as it was early in the day and no one was disappointed. A couple of other parties near us went for some Italian dishes and they looked excellent too. One of those places you could easily miss if you didn't know about it but worth a visit, especially if you like a decent beer choice.

The staff are always very friendly and helpful, the food is prompt and delicious. With a great atmosphere and a wide variety of drinks, this must be the best pub in Cambridge.

The food is decent, though nothing remarkable—just what you'd expect from an Italian chain. However, the service was disappointing. It felt like the staff couldn't care less about the customers, unless perhaps you were one of their 'favorites.' When they got my order wrong, there wasn’t even a hint of an apology. This will be my last visit to Bella Italia.

Such a lovely place with a very nice atmosphere, soft music played in the background, tasty food and lovely wine. The staff members are very friendly, polite and welcoming. I will be back there for sure.

The restaurant experience was expensive, with a Margherita pizza priced at £14.57. They added a 20% VAT and a 10% tip.

I always order the decious pizza number 10. Today for the first time it was burnt but Csaba was really nice and replaced it with a fresh pizza free of charge.

Brilliant experience as always at this place. Ordered firecracker chicken which was great, Green Thai, again great, starters - chilli squid, duck bao buns were tasty and duck gyoza which was complimentary if you pay via their app. Again tasty. Really enjoyed the experience.
