Maypole Fisheries in Leeds

Went to Maypole fisheries today and the food and service was excellent 👌 we had 1 regular Haddock and chips and 1 regular Haddock with half chips and half salad and it didn't disappoint. The regular Haddock was massive, so I can't imagine how big the special Haddock was! A drink and bread and butter were included in the price too. The young lady that served us was very polite and attentive. were stuffed after our meal. I would highly recommend the Maypole and will certainly be back when in Otley again

We got Haddock and chips, pineapple fritter, chips and beans amd a chip butty. All was very nice, served nice and hot and portion sizes were very generous.

Top quality fish n chips here guys,we moved to pool 3 years ago,we wanted to find a decent fish n chip shop this was the first we found,and loved it ever since... We have tried the others but not a patch on maypole,so dont waste your time looking around, give it a go... Fish n chips twice and a small batterd sausage...that my order

Fantastic fish & chips. We ordered specials & they did not disapoint. Well worth having to stand in the rain outside the shop as it was so busy. Friendly, efficient staff. Can't fault anything. See you again soon.

Visited for the first time on Saturday lunchtime as we were in Otley & needed lunch, it's a bit hidden away from the main shopping street but was well worth finding. From Weegman's butchers on the corner near the clock tower & market, follow the side street down a few hundred yards till you see a car park & the Maypole fisheries is on the left. The restaurant was set behind the takeaway & was a long, narrow room, there's a few steps so not wheelchair friendly but several clients negotiated the steps using a pusher while we were there, it was traditionally furnished & very clean. In fact everything about the Maypole was traditional but all the better for that ; piping hot food, well cooked with tasty white fish in a wonderful crispy batter, good chips, hot drink & bread & butter included in the price. My husband enjoyed his regular sized fish, I had the light bite & found it just the right size, we didn't have puddings but the light bite 2 course meal includes 1 if you wanted 1. The staff were very pleasant, efficient & friendly. A very enjoyable meal & we will definitely return on future visits to Otley, thank you Maypole for a lovely meal.

Stopped off on my to Ingleton. Managed to find parking close to the shop and despite the poor weather I didn't get too wet. I was feeling peckish and went for the classic fish and chips, scraps were offered but I passed on these. The sun came as we sat outside making the whole experience even better.

Dropped here tonight and sat outside, epic fish chips and peas, I'll be back without question.

We came to Otley for the great north show the show was fantastic on the way back to the B&B we found the maypole fish and chips what lovely surprise the staff were friendly.....now the fish and chips what can I say fantastic they reminded me of the kind I used to have as a boy lovely chips like my mum used to make not to say its old fashioned just good real food my wife rated it 10 out of 10 we have a good shop in London were we come from and there not as good as the maypole I recommend them to anyone looking for an evening meal just great

Had the pleasure of working at this fish shop and can happily say the standards are 5 stars and the staff very friendly and professional 5 stars again, and the fish and chips of course another 5 stars

Went there last year after a family funeral, having really enjoyed the food and fantastic service .As I was back up north last weekend decided I would take my friend to sample the fish and chips and was still great, really enjoyed our meal, nice friendly service. Will definitely go back when up that way again.

Best chippy in Otley (in my humble opinion!)

The Best Fish and Chips in Yorkshire, absolutely 💯 gorgeous, lovely flaky Haddock, crispy batter with none of the white sticky uncooked "stuff" under the batter, just lovely crispy batter, ( Well Done and Lightly Battered as we asked for)! Great staff, big thanks to Lee for looking after me n my mum again, same great customer service everytime, especially mention to his young assistant fella who serves our bread and tea and asks who's playing mum today!!?? We always ask for our bread slicing Across, as sliced diagonally is neither use or ornament, can't make a sandwich with it, I'm from Yorkshire so love a Fish Butty!! Cant wait for next visit, keep up the great work, they told us they just got in the top 10 Fish and chop shops 👌

My husband called in for tea yesterday and the fish and chips were PERFECT. I am gluten free and it was the best gf batter I have tasted. Wish we lived nearer!

Decent sized fish sandwich.. bread bun wasn’t dry and held its own under the fish, ate around 8pm so Expected the bread to be drier.. Fish was well cooked and tasted nice.. inc can of pop paid around £7

I visited on a Monday evening, the staff were not very friendly and felt unwelcome. He also overcharged me by £1.80. Not good as its the first time ive been. Won't be back again AVOID

I used to live in Otley for 12 years and Maypole was by far my favourite fish shop, tried them all, but nobody else comes near for taste and quality. I've lived in Rawdon now for the last 4 years, but still prefer Maypole by far to any near us unfortunately. My parents love it here, so we celebrated my stepdads birthday in the restaurant today. Great customer service as always. Thank you.

If Carlsberg did fish&chips then these would be them. Absolutly stunning fish and chips, best I've had in a long time. Other fish and chip shop owners need to try these and learn as these really are the best.

This is the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten The fish was so over cooked it was dark brown along with the chips. The peas were really sweet. We had 4 fish, 2 chips, 3 curry, 1 mushy peas and a potato scallop. As I was leaving a customer came in and complained, I wish I had tried out at the time. I drove 30 minutes to get them on recommendation from our holiday let. The 3 young guys that were there were trying really hard but well out of there depth

There's not a bad chippy in Otley but this is my favourite. Always ask for whatever you order wrapped up as you'll get slightly more chips and there's less waste than a box.

Me and my family ate fish and chips outside. The fish and chips and especially the scampi is superb. It was between £5 and £10 per person. The staff were great and very accommodating

Service was excellent.it was nice to be asked how we wanted the batter to be prepared. Also flexibility about chips and salad was good. It was a little more expensive than other fish and chip establishments.

This is definitely the best place to eat fish and chips in the town. Prices have rocketed up recently but this doesn't affect the quality and the service.

It is with deep regret I have to say, this is probably the best fish and chips you will ever eat. Maypole never serve anything less than top class fish and chips and now they have added superb fishcakes with parsley and a decent desert menu why would you eat anywhere else!. The deep regret is with reviews like this I might have to start queuing to get a table in the cafe area 😀

So Otley is a lovely old market town and has a plethora or Fish & Chip shops given it's size. The consensus of asking the odd local was try the Maypole for your best bet on a good chippy experience. So I did just that Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas at a steady £7.50 to takeaway. Incidentally this chippy also has a restaurant to eat in too. Although modest in size compared to most with a sit down option. So back to the food, well a big disappointment quite honestly. Don't get me wrong they weren't shockers but not great either. They were presented well, but everything was quite a bit off the benchmark standard wise. So I was greatly disappointed ultimately and here's why. The fish was really hard to determine what it was? I'm not going back in to ask but have no idea what it was? Probably Cod out of the Cod or Haddock choice? However it may well have been neither as it didn't marry up with the taste of literally thousands of both Cod & Haddock that I've eaten over the last heaven knows how many years. Somewhat strangely though the batter was lovely where it was cooked properly but awful where it was too thick and not close to being anywhere near properly cooked (see images) at all. The chips were very average and lacked being either crispy or soggy with little flavour to boot. As for the mushy peas again really disappointed. Good consistency but very watery flavour meant they tasted dialed down on pure pea taste and a hint too sweet. I really did expect better than they were and whilst not being terrible they certainly missed the mark. May try again but it would only be out of interest to see if they've improved. Though I'm sure on my experience that Otley has better chippies than this one. I will let you know the next time I try one!

We pulled up across the road and realised the chippy had a massive queue noticed there was a restaurant, what could be better, somewhere nice to sit, hot tea and coffee, bread and butter plus friendly service. The gentleman running the restaurant was very busy looking after all the tables, he seemed a little flustered but remained friendly and committed to giving excellent service, we ordered a special Haddock and a regular both with chips, tea and coffee and all the extras to go with it, we had quite a wait for our food but I guess the Special haddock was cooked to order. The food was very good and we cleared the plates, refreshed and fed we were ready to get back on the road, a good place to stop when passing through Otley.
