We hired a private room for a family meal. The food was very mediocre and the service was slow to say the least. We certainly won't be rushing back

Undeterred by Google opinions (3.6 as of August 4, 2024), we decide to have dinner there on Saturday. It's empty inside, maybe two tables occupied. A short conversation with the waiter and we leave. I'm starting to read carefully the opinions about this place and I understand that the staff at this place are popular for a certain type of behavior.

Good food. Great people. Service was impeccable and our waiter made some great recommendations. Definitely worth a visit if you’re a bit tipsy on a Friday night and need some decent food before you head off home.

What a waste of time, Waited 1hr 30 mins for a steak and i just cancelled it and walked out, Will never be returning.

Absolutely awful. Service disgusting. Ordered steak and chips which I ordered to have with the rest of the parties starters. 1 hr 20 minutes later after they all had the starters and appetisers and ready for their main I still hadn't had my meal so I cancelled it and had nothing to eat. No apologies even had the nerve to charge me for my drink. Their chips part of their mains came after everyone had finished the mains. Had to ask for them. Never again

Had a lovely time. Food was amazing and karaoke was brilliant. Everyone had a good night. However one of the servers was extremely rude and not very helpful.

Wwnt with friends last night after a day at the races , was quality from time we arrived to leaving. Food was great and staff lovely. Even dropped my wallet and staff member came looking for me to give back. Totally appreciated and great place.

Absolutely disgusting experience paid for my food upfront waited 20 mins only to be approached by someone who was relatered to the owners with a cocky attitude talking down to the customer. There was another waiter who was very humble and lovely and was very apologetic. Sack your relation he’s no good for you business. NHS Doctor

Fantastic food, portions and service. It was close to where we were staying and the name had sentimental value. Nearly didn't come because of 50/50 TripAdvisor review. So glad we went with sentiment. Highlight of the holiday. I refuse to recommend lightly but happy to recommend The Mayflower!

We were down from Scotland and not knowing Liverpool very well, googled nearest places for food to where were at the time. The owner/manager was rude and dismissive. Stared at us the while time and made it an awkward dining experience. The waitress Lola was fantastic. Really friendly and attentive. Disappointed that the owner gets a share of the tips. We would have preferred to tip her personally. The food was average. The salt and pepper chips were overcooked and the chips appeared to be reheated. The chicken was ok.. a bit crunchy. The curry sauce was a bit of a strange colour, consistency and texture. A bit bland. We definitly won't be back the next time we head down to Liverpool.. by reading some of these reviews there are lots of better options! We do wish Lola the best for the future though and hope she finds a better option for employment.. where her hard work and pleasant manner is appreciated!

The service was very quick but it felt maybe a little too quick. The food was of good quality and hot and we chose the meal for two which was enough for the two of us.

We absolutely loved our meal , snd drink at Mayflower. I had king prawn noodles with sweet and sour sauce, Steve had special fried rice, and prawn crackers, both meals spot on. Can NOT understand bad reviews!!

Booked a table for 24.02.2024 turned up on time, very rude young server who seemed like he couldn't be bothered being there, ordered some beers and ordered starters, 50 minutes later and other diners turning up getting there food and finishing and we where still waiting, so asked the waitress what was going on, apparently we had been forgotten about so we up and left and glad we did it was freezing in there, awful atmosphere and will never go back,place needs to up its game as there is many good Chinese restaurants close by.

Really nice food staff couldn't do enough

Really rude staff. Walked in and stood by the door for what felt like an eternity, staff just staring at us. Waited and waited people just walking past us. A member of staff finally came over waving her arms in my face shouting “no table” “no table” - they might have stopped serving which I can only guess with it not being busy, however, there is definitely a more polite way of approaching this.

Food was very nice all hot when it arrived at table

My four friends and i went out for what we thought would be a lovely dinner... the curry sauce was watery with no flavour, same goes for the satay sauce and the vegetable curry. The salt and pepper dishes were very poorly presented with no vegetables and hardly any 'salt or pepper.' one of our dishes was completely forgotten about and arrived once we had finished our food without and apology, safe to say we didn't eat it as it couldn't have looked less appetising, usually this would be refunded, however, we had paid for the meal prior to eating as this is protocol in this restaurant. had a very poor experience when paying as the staff brought the bill at the same time as our food demanding we paid whilst some of us had a mouthful of food? over all, the food was mediocre at best and the staff were shockingly rude, i will not be back. ever. we are a lucky bunch to have such a good sense of humour that we laughed it off, however this was extremely disappointing and a waste of money as students.

Absolutely guttered going here! Everywhere booked up last night at 6pm and ended up here. Reason for it being virtually empty! Everyone staring at each other thinking OMG food disgusting but nobody said anything. Thought we would end up with food poisoning thank god we never. Needs new management or something. Never again!!!

First time coming here and it’s the worst Chinese restaurant I’ve been to. The service was bad, the food was below average and there are much better options for Chinese food in Liverpool such as Big Bowl and Tokyo, for cheaper. I wouldn’t recommend coming here.

We were stopping across road so got a takeaway for 5 of us. Personally i thought it was a little bit over priced because the takeaway was the same price as the sit in. Curry sauce was abysmal as was the Chicken in satay sauve. Rest of the dishes were ok. (didn't even chuck in any prawn crackers). We'll not be back next year

Really lovely Chinese food. Service is prompt and efficient. You order off the menu, mark what you would like and you pay before service. The food is memorable. Would come back and recommend in a heartbeat.

We just popped in after a visit to see the lights. We probably wouldn't have had a meal here only for the fact we'd parked within walking distance. Food was mediocre, service was traumatic. 1 hour 35 minutes for 2 starters and two mains. Initial wait for starters was just on 30 minutes. And there was 14 dinners us two included. God only knows how they would have performed if they were at full capacity. The wait was, I think, due to meals being sent back. Anyway. We won't be going back. Sorry for the brutal honesty but. Reviews sometimes sting a little.

I have been going to this restaurant for years with all my children. But my last visit was in May this year 2023. I stopped going because my daughter showed me the health and safety report the restaurant received and I couldn't believe my eyes 1 it scored 1! I was unsure so I asked a few friends what was up and there was concerned in regards to how the food was kept and also how it was cooked, but I'm asking what about vermin and stuff. The normal stuff it's a restaurant. So since then iv not been looking online for a new health and safety certificate I can not find one so I haven't been back. Iv always enjoyed the food there and have never been sick. So I do t understand. It's clean inside also. Well if anyone should find the latest H&S report please post. Thank you. Can't fault the food. Lady was nice enough and thanked us for our positive feedback. The decor was nice and traditional, I had boiled rice, beef chow mein and beef in black bean sauce. My sister and her family enjoyed their food aswell. Will return on next visit to Liverpool.

Well what can I say we visited on a Saturday early evening (6pm) and it was happy hour! the food was lovely we had 3 courses for £16.50 which is excellent value for money! I personally had "crabmeat & sweetcorn soup" with prawn crackers, then ribs, spring rolls, wonton, and chicken toast followed by a main of schezwan chicken and fried rice. The food was very authentic and the staff where super friendly and "Reece" really looked after us well, we ended up staying for more drinks and in one of the Karaoke rooms they hire out above! It was one of the most random nights we have had but we all agreed it was so much fun! We will return 100%. Thanks again.

Superb friendly service and excellent food, we loved this warm hug when we visited Liverpool. Rees who served us was delightful, every dish was perfect and great value.

First time eating here and we had high hopes after reading good reviews. Very disappointing. Female server appeared uninterested and unwelcoming. Chicken chow mein was like a soup on a plate. Beef dish over seasoned. Food appeared heated up rather than freshly cooked. ‘Fried’ chicken appeared boiled. Would not recommend.

Tasy Chinese food with good value early bird set meal. The waiter recognised us from the previous visit, which is always nice.

Food was pretty subpar and flavorless, but what really made the experience terrible was what has to be the rudest service I’ve ever received for simply choosing to eat in their restaurant. We sat down, waited about 15 minutes (that’s ok, we admired their really cool fish tank the whole time), and finally had a server (who I think might be the owner?) come over who scowled at us and said “so you want to order or what?” We never saw her at our table again, and our food and bill had to be asked about from a different server because all we received were looks of disgust and dislike from the original woman who took our order every time she passed our table. It’s a shame because this was one of the coolest Chinese places I’ve been in and they have an extensive menu that’s very fairly priced. The young man who seated us was very kind and I hope he finds a job in a better environment, because the atmosphere was borderline hostile. I don’t write reviews, but I felt so unwelcome I was almost in tears, because I don’t know what we did to be treated like that.

I don’t know what has happened to this place, but what was once, a friendly, charming restaurant is now being run by snotty, rude staff. I hear from others that this place rips you off too. Save a journey and avoid. If you look at other reviews, you can see I’m not the first person to say this; that the staff are vile.

Pop in for takeaway menu then phone up at 5 at 5-15 ready the pork spring rolls spot on the ribs in ok sauce really nice and tasty and the crispy chilli chicken nice and hot here all week so be back a couple more times

OMG vermicelli had a taste of cleaning product , chips tasted of stale potatoes and oil ,that had been left out of freezer all day ,fried rice was pathetic. So very disappointed that people in the Liverpool working in the food industry have now stopped caring about the people they serve ,Just taking the p..s out of the late night drinkers .Shame on you!

Lovely restaurant. Friendly and very prompt service. They cooked hubby a meal that wasn't on the menu which was very tasty . I had a beef dish which melted in the mouth! Extremely tasty food and would definitely come back again. Service was Friendly and food was served quickly.

Lovely Chinese restaurant. Propmt and very friendly. We ordered Special fu Yung (not on menu, but cooked it for hubby), curry, fried rice x2, chips, Beef in green pepper and black bean sauce. All cooked to perfection and extremely tasty. The beef melted in my mouth!!! And washed down with fresh water and a Tiger beer. Service was great.

Went there many times years ago though I would give it a try after night out I have to say was very disappointed ordered seprate starters spring rolls were fresh but sui mais where dry and not fresh the chicken black been was really bad cold and tasteless bottle wine was not even chilled the owner was so rude will never go back there shame on that manager

We were at the Mayflower for my friend's 40th birthday party, and were a large group covering a wide range of ages in one of the karaoke rooms. We had a fantastic evening. Myself and two friends ordered a banquet between us. The food arrived quickly, was really tasty and there was a lot of it. The staff were always on hand if anyone needed drinks and were friendly but unobtrusive. The karaoke itself was so much fun. Really recommend it for a night everyone will enjoy!

Came here to celebrate with my family and ordered a variety of dishes! The food here always never disappoints and is cooked by an authentic Hong Kong chef. The quality of the ingredients they use is always very fresh and value for money. Mayflower maybe on a higher price point compared to their neighbors but they are a heritage restaurant. Being here for more than 20 years, you can definitely rely on their long standing reputation. Service may sometimes be a little slower but the food is always worth the wait. Some of the waitresses here are not good in English so it may take them abit of time to understand what you want. But hey, you come for the authentic Chinese experience right? Will definitely be back again!

It is with genuine disappointment that I find myself writing this review. If you look at my previous reviews, you'll see that I am generally a positive reviewer, so this marks a regrettable exception. My friends and I visited the Mayflower yesterday, booking a karaoke room for the evening. Our initial impressions were excellent. The service was quick, the atmosphere nice, and the food enjoyable. We did experience minor issues with the karaoke machine, but these were things we were prepared to overlook. However, the problem that marred our experience was the bill. When the bill arrived at the end of the night, it was noticeably higher than we had anticipated. While the food portion of the bill was itemised and correct, the drinks were not. In 2023, it's standard practice for bills to be itemised, and it was surprising to see this was not the case. Given that not all of our group were present to challenge it at the time, we decided to pay the bill and discuss it the next day. After reviewing the charges amongst ourselves, we realised we had been overcharged by a significant £64. I immediately contacted the restaurant the following day as soon as they opened to resolve the issue, stressing that we had thoroughly enjoyed our experience and planned to make it a regular occasion. However, the response from the manager was disappointing and condescending. Rather than addressing our concerns, he explained away the higher bill with claims of certain drinks being priced higher than they were listed on the menu and a 10% service charge that had not been mentioned on the bill or menu. I expressed my frustration about these hidden charges, but even taking them into account, there remained a substantial discrepancy. He brushed off our concerns, stating we had left it too late to bring up the issue, even though we had reached out at the earliest opportunity. Regrettably, the restaurant's refusal to address this issue has led to the loss customers who would have came back time and time again otherwise. I would strongly advise against visiting this restaurant.

Listen, stop what you are doing and stop scrolling looking at reviews. They end here. This place is outstanding. Other people have horrible drunk reviews of this place. Also people voting on the atmosphere and such but trust me that doesn’t matter. The food is spectacular. We stumbled upon The Mayflower and hands down has the best Chinese food on this side of the hemisphere. My father and I came late night and were blown away from the the noodle dishes as well as the chicken satay sauce. We came back the next day because we contemplated on where to go and we thought “ we are stupid” for not going back there now. The crispy noodle 10/10 Prawn dishes superb. JR is an awesome server which helped us steer our way through the menu. When in Liverpool I strongly recommend. I’ll be back soon enough.

Don't believe everything you hear or read about this place (I've read a lot of negative reviews). I'm 54 and have been coming here since a child with my parents and family. We have had many family celebrations here. Always able to accommodate even when a last minute walk in. Service always been prompt but needs to improve when busy. Never been disappointed with food presentation or taste. Have taken friends here and they have enjoyed it. Always a good atmosphere in here. Usual regular scousers with their families come here repeatedly. Always chat between tables. Sizzling Steak Cantonese, Chicken Satay & Duck are my faves here. Give it a try!

Really disappointed. I’ve been coming to this Chinese for a while and never had problems like this. Last time I came I ordered ribs and they were literally inedible. They tasted of vinegar. I’d not had this experience before so I decided to try again and this time I ordered beef in black bean. Again, a strong pungent taste of vinegar. I think they must be using this to preserve the food but it is making the taste absolutely awful. After coming to this Chinese for a few years I’m afraid that is the last time I will eat there. It’s not cheap and everyone loves a Chinese but this food makes me feel like I’m going to get seriously ill from it and the taste is just odd and pungent. A real waste of hard earned money in an economy where treats are few and far between. Just not worth the money anymore.

We sat down and eat in here last night the curry was warm to cold ribs were not the best rice was like rubber but the time before the food was very nice I don't know if it was because the restaurant was dead their was only us in their it spoils it so sorry their won't be a next time

Me and a couple other friends have been coming here for a while now. More recently I’ve been impressed by the improvement on their already great service and food so thought that vouched for a review. They have a big range of choice and have yet to let us down.

This is the worst restaurant I've ever been to in my life and the worst I have ever been treated. The attitude of the staff, especially Lewis, was disgusting and disgraceful. We visited on 15th April as part of 2 couples. We were given 1 menu and a felt tip and told to circle what we wanted. We ordered soups, starters, main meals and chips. We were then presented with the bill!!!! I've never known a restaurant charge you before you eat. We queried this with the waiter, Lewis, and his attitude was astonishing, telling us to eat elsewhere if we weren't happy. Our soups then arrived, immediately followed by 1 main (curry) and 1 chips. We said we didn't want our mains until after our starters and we were told that we shouldn't have ordered everything together!!! The main was taken away and, once we'd finished our soups, it was brought back out, complete with skin from where it has sat going cold and cold chips. Again we explained that it was normal to have starters before a main meal and it was now cold anyway. Again Lewis' attitude was disgusting. He argued with us and insulted us. We said that we weren't prepared to stay and wanted our money back so he threw some of our money on the table and told us to leave. We asked to speak to a manager but was refused. When I returned home, still angered by the way we were treated and Lewis' attitude in particular, I rang the restaurant and asked to speak to a manger and was again refused. Do no eat in this restaurant unless you want to pay before you receive your food, be served cold mains before starters and be insulted by the staff. I have given it 1 star because there is no option to give 0 stars.

We went in at 11pm and was told at first they’d be shutting at 12am which was fine as we only wanted a portion of noodles and prawn toast only to be told 1 minute later they were now shut. Google says 12am shutting time...

We went to the Mayflower for Chinese and karaoke night. From the minute we arrived the service was fantastic. Reece (apologies if wrong spelling) was amazing, so attentive, relaxed and funny. The food was lovely, and we had a great night singing any song we wanted in our private room. We couldn’t ask for anymore. We will definitely be back! Thank you 😊

Poor experience at the restaurant on a Friday evening, plastic menus that the pen rubs off, the food all arrived at the same time:- starters middles and mains . My mains were cold, complained to the Chinese waitress who just walked past and ignored me . Took my complete meal home to heat up properly. The only saving grace is that the food is tasty. They need to look at the overall experience of the customer and make improvements.

I don't know what has happened here but I didn't enjoy our experience last night. We were handed a very limited wipe clean menu card and asked to circle our choices. I didn't fancy anything from that menu and asked did they have a more "Chinese " selection available. Turns out they did so I ordered from that.We had to pay for our food on ordering??? My meal was really nice but my sister's and my husband's was tasteless. Won't be returning.

Went in because it is opposite the Staycity Apartments we were staying in and glad we did. This is a Chinese of the old school and Chinese people were eating in there and that’s always a good sign. Good range of drinks. Food was lovely...
