Mayflower Chinese Takeaway in Newcastle upon Tyne

What a disappointment! Change of chef or recipes? I don't know, but I can't remember it being this bad. Started with salt and pepper chicken balls. Soooo greasy! Now, I know they're deep fried, but is the oil meant to drip when you hold them and bite into them? Then, Singapore chow mein. Again, so greasy and oily, really disappointed. This is my go to dish, so I've had a few. Where was the spice? Normal chow mein, with extra grease and minus the Singapore. Sorry, but terrible. In fact, is it too late to change my rating to 1?

Used many times over the years. Rang tonite for delivery and was told they couldn’t. Twice. Told them they've delivered lots of times so they agreed and charged me more! Unfortunately, the chicken balls were over cooked, too hard inside and out, the chips were luke warm and the house special fried rice was bland and only had one king prawn in it! It’s not normally like this so was very disappointing. The driver was very friendly and polite. Not sure I’ll be back

After realising our go-to chinese was closed, we decided to try Mayflower as it is so highly recommended online, as an alternative. We found the portion sizes to be minimal for what was paid and everything was really lacking in heat / flavour. Both my husband and I agreed that it was disappointing and very bland compared to other Chinese takeaways in the surrounding area.

One of my favourite local Chinese’, staff are always very pleasant, also every time I have been (many times now) the food is always hot, freshly made and full of flavour. Also you get a fair sized portion for a reasonable price, will continue to keep coming back - it’s also my parents favourite Chinese so they’re doing something right 😆

I thought the food was cooked when i was there but it was only warm when i got home which i found odd. It is not as flavoured as it used to be so either the chef has changed or the business sold over. I havent got money to waste. The point of no return

Got chicken chow mein without mushrooms got home full mushrooms chicken was horrible wife got beef tomato left most of it not nice at all will never be back only thing that was decent was prawn crackers

Normally our go to Chinese. Tonight ordered food at quarter to 9 and didn’t arrive for a while. Rang up an hour and a half later only to find they were closed. Not happy.

Always try different kebab and pizza shops. But I always stick with mayflower the best about and people saying 90 mins delivery. I have never waited longer then 40 .And again best about by far

Ordered Cantonese chicken from here. It was nothing like Cantonese. More like bbq cat. The chicken was like jelly. Disgusting.

Spent half an hour trying to call to place an order with the line engaged. Eventually got through to a voice message saying they're closed all week! Why not say this on the website?

Gave them a go after getting a menu through the door, took 1 hour 30 for delivery, chips were cold and the food was OK but not worth that wait, I'll stick my normal the golden touch

Tried this takeaway for the first time the other day, absolutely lovely and very tasty food, prawn crackers were good, the dry chilli ribs were tasty and house special Cantonese was lovely. Place was spotless, staff friendly, prices are fair, will definitely be going back.

normally great service and good food also delivered by canny driver but today no one could pick up the phone after 45 minutes give up .always had great service however not tonight .

Not impressed with the salt and pepper munchie box, curry sauce was had far to much salt. The salt and pepper chicken wasn’t, just fried chicken. Probably the worst meal I’ve ever had from here. Sorry

Don't have a Chinese very often, but this one is fabulous. I have been desperate for a good takeaway for weeks. So pleased they are open again. Fresh delicious food delivered in good time. I would highly recommend mayflower, never had a bad meal & and there's a huge choice of vegetarian options.

they do very good meals, food is delicious and delivery is fast, I love the £4 meals with rice curry and noodles can also add others in so 5/5 from me

This is the first time we have ever ordered from here and it was the best Chinese I've ever tasted it wasn't salty or too sweet it was absolutely perfect may flower have now gained them selves new customers there number rbe going in our fine book the meat in the chow mein just melted in our mouths it was beautiful and am glad to see there very generous with the prawns too my favourite seafood thank you very much for such a delicious meal it was perfect curry sauce beautiful overall for the full meal I give it 10/10 see you soon

I’m a big fan of Chinese food and takeaways, Tried most of the Chinese takeaway is in Newcastle by the far Mayflower is the worst one I had, The chips were raw, I don’t think I need any more explanation, Rice full of come in seeds and it’s just so much of it all the bigger doubles are not fresh they were frozen just a boil on hot water and quite a bit of process meat The only thing is good prawn crackers.all the five star reviews are for free food I bet,if u don’t believe go and try ur self

Not sure what was deep fried but it was like no chicken I have ever seen/tasted before. I can only assume the positive reviews have been bought in.I began to feel ill within an hour of consuming it and this shows no sign of abating...

Really lovely take away ordered twice and was lovely first time even better second time chicken so moist and flavoursome and prawns cooked lovely new fav Chinese came in no time and was piping hot 💯% lush!

Disgusting food chop suey raw beef and tomote the beef was chewy and son found 2 hairs first time ordered from there be the last

2nd time we have been here once at New Year and last night. Has totally gone down hill. Prawns in sweet and sour battered prawns were rock hard and raw. Chicken and mushrooms nowhere near as nice as used to be. The first time it wasn't nice at New Year put it down to it being so busy, but after last night will never go back.
