*AVOID AT ALL COSTS* Absolutely the worst Chinese I have ever had in my life. Both me and my daughter were violently sick on my birthday weekend after ordering £72 worth of takeaway food including their king prawn chow mien and salt and pepper king prawn starter. Phoned the takeaway and the woman who answered told me to stop wasting their time and didn’t even apologise or say anything when I told her please not to serve the same prawns to other customers. Words escape me. The same awful woman told me I should have brought the food back- how can you return food when you have instant food poisoning!! Avoid if you value your health and do not want horrendous food poisoning or indeed the misfortune of dealing with dreadful staff. A disgrace.

Never order from this takeaway! Food arrived freezing cold to the touch and when called to ask for a resolution to this was told that we were emotionally guilt tripping the staff when we said that we would not walk back to the shop to return their food for a refund? incredibly rude, sarcastic, and claimed the food left piping hot when the driver had a two minute drive to get to our house. Not only disgusting food but disgusting customer service!

I have been to the Mayflower for years. The food is Fantastic it arrives quickly and is phenomenal. The Exceptional Customer Service is so awesome. My family goes there too. I love the food and the awesome people that run it.

A great takeaway, I have been visiting here for almost 30 years. Food is superb. Salt and pepper garlic prawns as a starter are so yummy. Reliable and friendly delivery service.

£70 of food was not enough to feed 2 adults and 3 children. Portion sizes were half the size of other establishments; quality was average also. Will not be ordering again unfortunately.

Didnt even want to give them a 1 star but had no choice. Absolutely shocking meal and shocking service from the woman on the phone when we rang to complain. No meat in the meal and chow mein was dry. Woman on the phone told us we had to take it back to her when they delivered it like that to us!! When i told her we was going to write a bad review she said 'go on then, thats your opinion' would never order from here again!

Asked for specific Chinese rice, noodle and chicken based dishes, with the exception of dim sum - they do not offer as reflected on that menu - the staff was very helpful and friendly in explaining what I was specifically looking for - what they had, didn’t have but a suitable substitute. OMG….The flavour of the food was above what I expected. I appreciated that basic level of service. I recommend the beef noodle dish.

I've used this loads of times over the years - it's my goto Chinese and I use the delivery option. The food is always top drawer, delivery is prompt and within the promised time and the staff - both those taking orders on the phone and the delivery person, are always friendly. Good value as well as good quality.

Not fro. Chester just passing though, found this Chinese in the Center. The food was amazing and very taste.

Wish I’d read the reviews on here before ordering! Quite possible the worst takeaway I’ve had this year! Over 2 hours from ordering to delivery. When it finally arrived it was cold and bland. Hot and Sour soup was neither. Kung Po, tasteless. Tasted like the chips had been cooked more than once. The rice was ok ! Give it a miss !

I came to Chester on hoilday and fancied a night in with a takeaway so not noing anything about the takeaways in this area I randomly picked mayflower I'd go as far to say it's the best Chinese iv ever tasted. Would definitely recommend.

Come here all the time for our favourite crispy shredded chicken in chilli and carrots. This place is crazy busy on weekends so can wait up to 2 hours. So glad they're opening again since the lockdown.

Came to visit family late February, who regularly orders from here and had a huge meal for 10. We had salt & pepper shredded chicken which is a family favourite, very moorish and shaped like twiglets. Salt & pepper chips (it doesn't come with vegetables to the delight of my nephew who doesn't eat any greens at all). As well as other various dishes. I tried roast pork in hot yellow bean sauce for the first time and it was amazing! It was this rich, sticky, sweet & spicy, nutty flavour and had onions and green peppers in it. You don't get alot of sauce in it as it has a very strong taste to it. My nephew prefers his food quite alot of sauce whereas his sister doesn't. So we compromised and ask for several of his favourite dishes more sauce and they were very accommodating as usual. Excellent meal and I can't wait for my next visit again.

I ordered a meal for me and my family and I was very impressed. The food was amazing and the service was great. The portions were perfect and I couldn’t fault it. I can’t wait for it to reopen after lockdown so that I can order again x

Salt and pepper chicken was bland with no vedge or chilli's the beef chow mein has no taste at all food was also luke warm when arrived would not recommend this place to anyone

The quality of the food is poor, first time ive eaten from here. Ordered the shredded aromatic duck, that actually came in one piece... was not shredded in the slightest. Also had the sweet and sour chicken and i felt like it was a bit dry with not much taste. The portions were very small and was not filling in the slightest. So not very satisfied.

Website says they are open until 10:30pm on a Sunday. We tried to call at 9:45pm and it kept going to voice mail each time we rang. Very poor service but I guess it's their loss of money. There were three of us that were going to order so I suppose they are happy losing out on over £30. Ridiculous!

Ordered £50+ worth of food, which after waiting over and hour, turned up cold. Rang up to complain, to which the only response we got was ‘we are sorry’. Won’t be ordering from here again.

We have used Mayflower for many years but was very disappointed tonight after paying £55 for a family takeaway and it arrived cold. The delivery was about 30 mins late so we were obviously last on the delivery run. When we phoned to complain they were totally unconcerned. Will be ordering from Lipps in future.

A treat to eat! I chose Hot & Sour soup ( small but perfect if you like it hot!) barbecue spare ribs ( nice) & very tasty honey & lemon chicken. I think its the best Chinese take away that delivers. Cash only.

We didn't get our full order. The food we did receive was luke-warm and tasteless. We called to get the food that we didn't receive and got told they would deliver it right away. 40 min later still not received it and tried to call the takeaway at 9:30 but went straight to answer phone saying they are closed when on the website they close at 10 on a Tuesday. We got scammed and did not receive all our food and will never go back. Payed for an item we didn't receive and was left hungry. Am uni student so money is tight and this was not good at all. DO NOT GO HERE.

This is our goto Chinese takeaway in Chester. The food is always hot, tasty and always plenty of it. Staff are always very friendly and polite. No need to go anywhere else :)

Pedimos la comida que venía tarde y estaba tibia, pero estaba buenísimo cuando estuvimos en el microondas. No me importaría que fuera un viernes por la noche, pero el conductor de la entrega siendo tan grosero simplemente lo arrojó al borde. Ella me llamó para salir (yo vivo en un pub TRANQUILO) y le dije que no podía demandar a estar arriba en mi pijama. Luego cierra la comida en el bar y es muy desagradable con mi personal. ¡La forma no le costó nada! La comida no es barata. ¡Estoy seguro de que un poco de lluvia no te hará daño!

Al mezclarlo cuando lo abrí después del parto, fui golpeado de inmediato. . Después de pagar 18. 50 no querrías ver comida así. El pollo a la sal y la pimienta no estaba ensuciando mechones tan gruesos como mi cabello puesto en masa y cocinado. . . Tuve que romper unos diez pedacitos a la mitad para finalmente darme cuenta de que no había nada más que una pasta tan dura como una roca. Las patatas fritas eran solo patatas fritas con pimienta rociada. . . no hay opiniones vegetarianas como las pimientas de chile y todas las otras cosas que se te ocurren. Entonces llamé y le expliqué que acababa de pagar 18. 50 para fichas. . . . Ella dijo que si le devolví la comida obtendría un reembolso. Estuve de acuerdo en que dije que bajaré en diez. . . ella dijo que me devolvería la mitad porque ya comí algo. Disgustado pero tranquilo le dije que no, que ella era no, no, no, que sí. Found this takeaway while walkabout in Chester & was in a hurry for Chinese food. Friendly staff, ample portion and piping hot made it made it a tasty chicken chow mein.

I'm usually big on Chinese takeaways and restaurants but the food here just doesn't do it for me in terms of the taste. The duck in most Chinese places are marinated in a Chinese broth containing herbs and spices, but here, it's very bland.

Detenido en Chester para un fin de semana y encontramos esta pequeña joya en internet. Elegí entrar independientemente de algunas de las críticas negativas y contentos de haberlo hecho! Personal amable, servicio rápido e incluso después de un paseo de 10 minutos de vuelta a mi hotel, la comida estaba aún caliente. Sabroso, generosas porciones y me dejó con ganas de pedir de nuevo la noche siguiente. . Así lo hice!

Recently had a takeaway from here for the first time and the beef chow mein was pretty poor. No veg or flavour at all. Just noodles with a few pieces of beef. Won't be going there again which is a shame.

Ordered a late night takeaway, ribs in capital sauce, chicken satay with fried rice and a mayflower special chow mein. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it, we will definitely return.

Nice staff, meal hot good size portion

This was my first experience of this restaurant, we ordered 4 meals, the person repeated our address and order and said it would 45mins but may be 1 hour, it turned out to be 1 hour 20 minutes, we had a call to say we were not at home, they had the wrong address but we were told it was our error, these things happen I accept.

Love the great quality of food from here and is always consistant and always tasty! Things to try are the salt and chilli king prawns, chicken satay & the beef curry (beef just falls apart in your mouth).

Probado este lugar por primera vez, y probablemente será la única vez. Tuve pollo con setas - Pollo era un poco seco y las setas eran totalmente insípido. Salsa era mínimo y sosa. La mayoría de comida para llevar china he probado nunca han decepcionado, pero este sí.

They do not accept credit/debit cards, so a star off for that. Portions were small, and food average, except for the spare ribds which were excellent. Spending £40 plus on takeaway food usually merits prawn crackers thrown in, but we still had to pay for them at the Mayflower.

Don't waste your time ordering from this Chinese I spent £20 on food and what we received was nothing short of disgusting. We ordered Beef Chow Mein which had about 5 bits of beef in it and Chicken Curry which had about 7 tiny bits of chicken. Total waste of my money. Totally terrible take away. I will never be ordering again

We use the Mayflower on a regular basis, and we're yet to have a bad meal. If you spend over £13, there is a 3 mile radius, where they will deliver for free. It is worth mentioning that they will only accept cash for this type of delivery, but that's never been a problem, as they do carry some change. They always give you an estimate on how long the delivery will take, which is usually between 45 minutes and an hour, but can be longer at busy times. This is usually accurate, and there's only been one occasion where they were 15 minutes longer.The portions are delivered in tin foil trays, which aren't massive, but are crammed to the brim. The rice is served separately, so there's no chance of having your meal padded out with rice, which I have experienced with other takeaways. If you're looking for one portion to serve two people, it's not going to happen. I've always found the food to be delicious, well cooked and full of flavour. The prawn crackers are fabulous.As always, highly recommended.

I really don't know what has happened to the mayflower , it used to be ok , The food was bland and the portions were tiny , we thought we would try it as we hadn't been there for a while , MISTAKE !!!!

Never had a bad meal here and with an hour plus wait for your food it's very popular. Unfortunately if ordering a delivery you can only pay in cash so be pre warned. Love the salt and chilli prawns and their chilli beef or chicken and give the spicy chips a go too!!

I recently tried a take out from here based on one Google review proclaiming this place to be "the best Chinese in Chester". The food was delivered quickly but was pretty poor as far as take out quality goes. The Summer Palace right next door is better in my opinion or try the China Garden in Hoole for a good take away meal.

Tasteless slop in small portionsThe chow mein and chilli chicken were truly awful. The look and texture of the food was that of next day leftovers. Will definitely not revisit!

Very lovely, authentic chinese, best I've come across in chester

Called at 6.30 on a Saturday as I couldn't get through to our usual Chinese. Went for the mayflower as recommended by a friend. Was told food would be with me within 90 minutes. It was actually almost 2 hours and really not worth the wait... Very small portions and not particularly tasty or spicy. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and certainly won't be using it in future.

Our old favourite Chinese take away had gone down hill due not using fresh ingredients......and so the quest began for a replacement. After a few failed attempts we came across the Mayflower so we gave it a go.This is exactly what we were looking for...lovely fresh food and delivered on time. We have ordered 3 times and we'll keep doing so. This is a fantastic find!

Updated this to reflect 3 years of sampling pretty much every Chinese takeaway round Chester - Mayflower is consistently the best for me. Crispy chilli beef is a highlight for me within a really good menu and we've never been disappointed. Its a bit more expensive and portions size is average but still we come back for the quality! Nice people too.

After having an awful experience with summer palace we decided to try out another Chinese in Chester. This one came up and we were pleasantly surprised, food came on time, nice and hot and also tasted good.

They refused to admit that they did not cook my food to a proper standard thus began to argue with them instead of apologise and cook it properly. I did not want a new meal or anything free, just that one placed in the wok a bit longer. They refused. Not nice service.

We've been using Mayflower since about 1997 and the food has set the bar so high that no other takeaway we've ever used matches up. Really tasty food. Sometimes a wait of an hour or so, and not the cheapest, but always great, hot food and good customer service. I was surprised at the 2 negative reviews from March this year. I only found this site by accident trying to find their phone number as I had lost the menu and was sorry to see that those people were disappointed. Worth a try if you've never eaten their food.

Don't believe the negatives reviews on here, this is a fim favourite for us after trying everywhere else.The portion size isn't huge and its not a cheapie takeaway - but the quality and taste blows everywhere else away and its why we're always going back.Crispy beef with chilli and carrot is the best I've tasted outside London's chinatown.My one complaint would be why not offer prawn crackers to loyal customers who pick up the food rather than wait an hour on a busy night... :-)

The staff are friendly and the food is good quality. It is just a shame the portion sizes are tiny and the meal was nearly as cold as the outside temperature. The food was cooler than the air inside our house so must have been sitting in a car for quite a while. Will not be going back.
