Ate here with my husband and 2 year old and loved every minute. They were incredibly hospitable and did everything to make our experience enjoyable. The food was full of flavour and i can easily say i had the best butter chicken ever! My husband is hard to please when it comes to currys but he hasnt stopped raving about it and is already planning our next visit. 5 stars isnt enough.

Visited for the first time with my wife and 2 year old daughter. Food was excellent and in our opinion the tastiest indan (some dishes indo-chinese) you will find in Bolton. The owner is very welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It was very quiet but we spoke to another family who will only eat here in bolton it is that good which speaks volumes. I really want this place to succeed but selfishly want it to remain a hidden secret (gem) so it doesnt get too busy. I see a comment on portoin sizes but i can eat a lot and came out full plus the price is very reasonable. Quality and quantity (without being over-faced). We no longer need to travel outside of bolton for a proper curry. Excellent

Came to Bolton just to visit this restaurant and very glad we did. It is in the basement so not so easy to spot from outside but a hidden gem. My husband is disabled and struggles with stairs but the owner came up to the road to help us down and gave us a table near to the door. Very considerate. We ate at around 6.30 so the restaurant was relatively quiet but still had a friendly atmosphere. Service was fast and efficient and the owner told us if there was something we wanted that wasn’t on the menu we could still ask for it. Maybe not an option on a busy Saturday evening but still a great gesture. My daughter had onion bajji to start which she loved and my son had crispy chicken strips which was equally received but my husband and I opted for the lamb chops, something we’ve never tried in an Indian restaurant before. Just WOW!!! Served sizzling in a ‘pan’ they had to be the tastiest thing I’ve ever had in an Indian restaurant ever. We’d go back just for a plateful of these! Best to eat with your fingers so a little messy but well worth it. The main meals chosen were rogan josh, tikka masala and two biriyani. Not huge portions but to be honest, we always leave food as there’s too much served so needless to say, four clean plates. We didn’t catch the name of the owner but he needs commending on his restaurant, his service and fantastic food. Well worth the 40 minute drive. (And lots of parking outside). Thank you Mayas Restaurant.

I ate with 5 colleagues as we stayed over in Bolton on business. Nice and tasty curry however the portions were a bit strange. The amount of toppings for the popadums was a bit mean, the starter portions were huge but the mains were quite small. My Rohan Josh was nice but did not have much meat in it. Nice enough but more in terms of portion size would have been great.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat while in town , have walked past here so many times but never ventured down the stairs. Well I'm glad I did today... Food was fresh and tasty. chilli paneer was just the right level of spice and Roti warm and fresh.. Will be back and worth a visit.. also close to the bars so no massive walk between here and a good night out.

Visited here for the first time last night with with my husband. The food was delicious and very reasonable priced. My lamb curry was very tender and spicy, just the way I like it. My husband had the butter chicken which was also excellent. Service was extremely friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Visited recently as a group of six. I will start by saying that the food is always excellent here and the staff very friendly. However, the service on this occasion was very poor. We were seated for 7.30 which was our booking time. 75 minutes later we were still waiting for starters having only had poppodums. When the starters did arrive we were one missing. 2 hours after being seated at 9.30 we still had no main courses. Only when we indicated we were going to leave did our food arrive. We were not the only ones in this situation that evening. Staff were apologetic and indicated they were ‘busy’. However, during the 2 hour wait we had seen many take away bags being collected and people were still being seated. It appears that take away takes priority over those eating in the restaurant. Advice would be to turn down take away orders if restaurant bookings can’t be served in a timely fashion. Despite the food being excellent we would think twice about eating in again. Friends that were with us had experienced this previously so I don’t believe it was a one off. They thought they would give the benefit of the doubt but I don’t think they will visit again.

Thira Restaurant is a hidden gem for lovers of authentic South Indian cuisine. The menu offers a wide range of dishes, with a focus on Kerala flavors, including mouthwatering curries, dosas, and seafood specialties. The spices and flavors are perfectly balanced, and everything tastes fresh and homemade. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it an excellent choice for both intimate dinners and family gatherings. The staff are attentive, friendly, and happy to recommend dishes if you’re new to the cuisine. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, and the overall dining experience feels thoughtful and authentic. Thira Restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the vibrant flavors of South India.
