The flavouring is subtle on this dish, but it's very nice.

I ordered some food from here through just eat. I put in the notes to please not add egg to my food. When it arrived, it had egg in. If it wasn't possible to do my food without egg, I would've preferred if they had just cancelled my order rather than ignore my notes on the order.

Absolutely top class food. Ready on time, hot, tasty and beautifully cooked. Can definitely recommend.

the chips weren't cooked and inedible. the chicken was very pale clearly not been browned first. for the price not worth it. curry sauce was good however.

First time here, called in for a cheeky pint and a takeaway, after a long day, food was excellent, service was good, food service quick almost didn’t have time to drink our pint, and piping hot when we arrived home 15mins later, will certainly call again and definitely recommend this place. We ordered the delightful 179a Crispy Chilli Beef and the melt in the mouth 187 Beef with ginger and spring onion with a portion of egg fried rice to share. The meals were hearty portions and extremely filling

Went on the recommendation of a local oriental and it does not disappoint, it looks and feels just like walking into a good food establishment in Hong Kong. Staff are friendly and attentive without feeling like stalkers, seated swiftly, even my aged mum in her wheelchair and service is swift and efficient. Decor feels right, washroom is clean and well maintained, the food (Dim-Sum) was excellent, as good as Hong Kong! The food comes quickly and is cooked to perfection, my only gripe is that I live over 220 miles away and can only visit every 3-4 weeks.

Went with my wife on Valentine's and we both had horrendous food poisoning for the next day and a half. Contacted them for a refund and was basically told 'You can't prove it was us so go away.' Awful waste of £80.

Food was lovely, staff were very polite and helpful. Food was excellent. We went out for valentines, atmosphere was OK, I had to be careful walking as the floor was quite slippery with my boots, but nice place.

Prawn crackers missed off order

Very impressed. A little on the pricey side but well worth it and easily the best Chinese we have had for ages. We had spring rolls, crispy duck, crispy chilli beef, salt and pepper chicken and sweet and sour chicken with rice sides. All delicious!

Absolutely rubbish nothing special about the food cold bland and over charged us. We went for my daughters 18th birthday and was a total let down service was extremely slow will not return or recommend place needs closing

We really like their Dim Sum but we are after 6 pm, there is no dim sum after 6 pm. We order from the dinner menu, it is not as good as Dim sum be honest but it is still good, the staff is very friendly and very helpful. We have one guest is allergic to mushrooms, so all our dishes are mushrooms free.

The staff aren’t very polite and unprofessional. Food was overcooked. Poor meal horrible atmosphere wouldn’t recommend.

Lovely Chinese place, such amazing authentic food, amazing flavour and came really quickly which was perfect, feel as though the atmosphere could be a bit more upbeat but never less it’s hard to do that in such a big restaurant, lovely and polite servers

I ordered the roast duck which is super dry and chewing. Normally it’s come with bone and It’s not usually what I have in the restaurant. Super disappointed.

Very rude staff with terrible attitudes. Food looked rushed with no effort, so we walked out and left our cold tiny meals on the table. Staff spoke to us like trash and I would never go back. I was also very concerned about the welfare of the fish in the fish tank there. AVOID!!!!!

Wasn't that impressed with the food as it was basic and very basic. Duck pancakes were served cold for instance. Goodish value though. Excellent customer service though a little slow at times. Would eat here again but not up there with the best Chinese's I've visited.

AVOID….Food ok, staff very rude we booked a table online and when we arrived they clearly didn’t want us to be there. We arrived at 8 pm we were told immediately the kitchen closed at 9 pm. Which was fine there was still an hour! We were told at every opportunity we needed to hurry along! We were still eating starters when our main course arrived! We were half way through our main course when they started mopping around us. At the end of the meal after being asked if I would like to leave a gratuity (er no!) I explained I thought the service was very rude to which I received a smile! This is the third time we have been here the first time was 3 years ago and it was amazing 2nd time nothing to write home about, 3rd time shocking would never go back and looking at all the other reviews I’m not oh my own. AVOID AVOID AVOID SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Very good food (I had excellent roasted duck) and authentic Chinese atmosphere, it just felt a little empty and huge when we were there (weekday evening). I'm sure it feels warmer and more cozy on a weekend with more guests.

Stopped by for a takeaway, very quick service - it was 5:30 on a Monday night! Food was very good and there was plenty of it. Large restaurant with a comfortable seating/waiting area. Free car parking, we will use again.

I had a really really dramatic experience in this resturant. The manager pretends he cannot understand Mandarin Chinese, but actually he could understand. I admitted my attitude was bad, but he triggered my anger. I lost my decent and elegent image in front of all my friends, because of this manager! Let me tell you what happened. We drove a long way to this remote place to eat, bcz we heard that they served good food. However, we waited for more than 1 hour, and the food was still not ready for us! I asked the manager to make it quick, and he said, I need to to undertsand that it is normal to wait such a long time for dinner. (I am speechless about this) Then, the food came. And all of them were not tasty. I can even cook better than them, and I am not a good chef, but I can cook better than them. !! The rice was freezing cold and seems like left over rice from the day before yesterday... Bcz of all of these bad experience, I argued with the manager. But he seems quite unfriendly to me, and this triggerd my anger. Also, he spoke Chinese first, then switch to English. and I also heard he said he cannot understand Chinese.... What? What? What? Excuse me? You cannot undertstand Chinese, but you said Chinese to me at the beginning... It is not a good experience and the food is bad. Please read my review before you go there!

Maxi's for us is the fine dining of Chinese food. Not the cheapest but for a reason, the food is amazing. 10/10 every time.

The Dim Sum has improved tremendously. Really good lotus buns, cheong fun and white radish cakes. The roast meats are very good again and the traditional Cantonese dishes are very good as usual. The three treasures is the best dish here.

Dishes are delicious and well presented. Decent value for money, good variety on offer, staff are friendly and excellent service. If you’re staying nearby I’ll definitely recommend them.

Best chinese food I have had for some considerable time.

Beware of this restaurant. The staff misled us about the cost of our meal, and when we confronted them, they refused to take responsibility. Even more disgusting, we found a hair in our food, and the staff barely acknowledged it. Their rudeness and unprofessionalism were shocking. Despite offering a meager discount, their handling of the situation was far from adequate. After reaching out with a formal complaint, they simply ignored us. It’s clear they don’t care about their customers. I would never recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent dining experience.

I was having the meal with a group meal service for about 70 people. We had a booking at 17:30 and arrived 20mins late due to the transport. When we arrived, all the food was already placed on the table without any lid for covering. Most of the food was cold and dried. Flies were stood on the food which is really disgusting

We have been coming here for years. Its good food, nice and light to eat. The service here has improved massively except they still dont ask if you want any more drinks after the first ones. Might be because we always get 2 drinks to start with. One red wine and a glass of lemonade for me, and one Orange drink and one lemonade for the driver. It's clean, pleasant and the food is tasty. Fair price as well. The waiters and the manager are lovely. We like the food here and they usually have room for us. We will be coming here again.

Always a great experience eating at maxis. We always use it as a place for family gatherings, some of us driving considerable distances but always worth it. Highly recommend

Beef satay very chewy. Chicken fried rice was like it was boiled. Quite disappointing for how expensive the food was.

If you like Chinese food and you are out in York area, this place is well worth a visit. And if you don't care for Chinese food, go try it anyway and it will leave you converted in no time at all! Pleasant ambiance, plenty (free) parking, good choice of food (even for the veggies), great taste and excellent service. Been our go to place for birthdays and business lunches for 25 years!

Limited vegan options. Meat eating friends enjoyed the non-vegetarian food. The service was slow but the staff was courteous and eager to help.

Expected my satay sauce to be thicker/stickier, but no complaints as it tasted great & wasn't a strange 'nuclear' colour. 4 stars as I couldn't find where to order prawn crackers 🤔

First time here and didn't disappoint! Just a little bit pricey then London, but if you want a decent dim sum in York! Go to Maxi's. Great service, good selection and friendly staff's!

Never fails to deliver top food one of best in York

Great food, great atmosphere and service. Salt & pepper chicken was amazing and had the most succulent Cantonese steak I've ever tasted.

Processed, meats, poor quality food at high prices. We were very disappointed with our food. The ambience was spoiled by noisy table clearing onto canteen style trolleys and these staff seemed very rushed but polite. We had shared mixed starter, all of which was battered and deep fried when it came, even the ribs! The battered prawns were reconstituted prawn meat. We also ordered Singapore Vermicelli which were very dry with sparse other ingredients: Chicken and Cashew dish which had processed chicken and was tasteless and Sweet and Sour chicken which was mediocre. We won't be visiting again as food not good and inflated prices.

Oh no what happened to this place? The microwave meal was served within 4 mins of us ordering it and 2 hrs later I feel like I may vomit. Literally the most garbage poundstretcher wine i’ve ever been served - £8.50 a glass!!! No wonder the restaurant was 2/3 empty on a friday night

My family and I have been having lunch here like 5 times in the last 5 years and it's my 2nd most favourite restaurant in York (the 1st in Yuzu tonkonsu). Maxi serves delicious food, particularly roast pork belly & monk fish hot pot, and also ma po tofu. We also like Shanghai dumpling and mixed meat cheung fun. The interior was superb, best in York. The service is friendly. I see the same people serving us since 5 years ago, and always with a smile and they look happy, which is a good sign.

Menu changed since last time I visited, but happy with the choice. Staff couldn't be more helpful. Very friendly!

We used to go to the one in Leeds & have never been to this one, a little dark, but the food was exceptional, the service was great & the staff made you feel very welcome, this will now be a regular eatery for us, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone

We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I lost close to £100. I ordered chow mein and it was the greasiest that I ever had and couldn’t have a single spoon of it. The maxi special platter was coated with some batter that was very salty. Service was okay. I wouldn’t recommend going there unless you don’t mind falling sick.

This is a very cool place, with great decor and friendly and attentive service. There is a decent amount of veggie options on the menu but they are not very descriptive so it’s hard to say what each dish is. The veg and cashew nut dish we ordered was very bland and the noodles, while tasty, were marked as spicy on the menu but definitely weren’t spicy. If we visit again we’ll definitely ask for a recommendation.

What a rip off this place is Far to expensive Boiled rice was just a big chunk couldn’t separate it.tried to charge me £2-50 for a glass of tap water and tried to tell me it was bottled water .avoid at all costs unless u are a millionaire

Food was sublime, staff were friendly and great. Only 2 problems were the sweet and sour sauce was basically no vinegar and was too sweet and the water had black bits but the water couldn't be helped as the kettle would've been used millions of times. Other than that great place, great food!

Overall, great experience! On Sunday afternoon, we could enjoy Chinese Dim Sum without having a table booking. The staff were helpful. All the dishes were served very quickly. There were huge parking spaces available right in front of the restaurant, that was great :)

Would absolutely recommend coming to try the dim sum here. We tried 7 different dim sum dishes, and all were very tasty. Our favourite was the duck egg custard buns. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only criticism being they didn't come back to us to check on us after serving food. However, this did not take away from a great overall experience. The place has an authentic feel, and all our food was delicious. We will definitely be returning to try more dishes.

The most bland and overpriced food I’ve ever eaten. The salt and pepper prawns weren’t even salt and pepper flavour, the rice was so plain it had no taste and my sauce was basically flavoured water. All so overpriced for what u get. Won’t be coming back. Also was watched over by staff too which made the experience awkward.

Nice atmosphere, but the food was heated at the microwave. The broccoli was so hot you couldn’t touch it and on the other side of the plate the chicken was cold. To bad.

Food arrived an hour late. Emails asking where it was were not answered. I phoned the restaurant who blamed Just Eat. When the delivery arrived the deliverer blamed the restaurant. The food was cold. My contract is with Just Eat and I think a full refund would not be inappropriate.

Service what service existant as never came to the table to ask if the meal was ok or did we require more drinks. At the end a lot of food was left which they used to put in containers to take home, this time we were given empty trays and to to do it ourselves. Food was on cold dishes and to top it all was asked for a tip on leaving, when I was about to put cash in the dish, so no tip. Gone down hill in the last few years. Bye bye Maxi's

Quite disappointing and definitely not worth the money (Maxis is expensive but it’s sometimes worth it). Salt and pepper chicken in particular was soggy and not tasting all that fresh.

This was a spur of the moment visit after carpet and furniture shopping. Service fantastic, food delicious and very generous portions although have definitely noticed a price rise so was pleased when the portions were substantial. Really enjoyed our meal and the Chinese tea, best ever.

Standard Chinese food. Nothing special, fairly expensive and waiting for the bill we had to flag a guy down even though we'd very obviously finished eating for more than ten minutes. Dusty cobwebby ceiling too, always a pet hate as it's unnecessary and a health hazard. Just get a long handle duster and clean it people, not hard to do.

Food was raw gave me food poisoning would definitely definitely not let even my dog eat from here pedigree chum would be much nicer
