Mavi Turkish Restaurant in Northumberland

Though the sauce and entre were rather good, the meat of the mixed was definitely over cooked, dry & hard to cut/rather chewy ... old meat? Coincidentally, one of us got food poising after eating here :( Addendum: we were 2 people, sitting next to the entrance door.

The food is so fresh and delicious. This restaurant was recommended to us and what a good recommendation. We haven eaten there several times and never disappointed. Service is great.

We had dinner here, and had great food - very tasty. Service was excellent, attentive and friendly. The restaurant fronts onto a quiet back street, and has a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely eat here again.

It's a nice, clean restaurant where you can find warm guests and delicious Turkish tastes. I recommend you to go.

If in Berwick this is a good place to try. I had creamy chicken it was absolutely delicious could not fault any thing about this establishment.

We came to this town for a film festival, and after several days of underwhelming meals, we found this place — trust me, it’s the best restaurant in town. The food was incredible. The falafel are one of the best we’ve ever had. By the time we finished eating, we felt completely re-energized. Highly recommend!

We made a last min booking and managed to get an earlyish dinner. Highly recommend booking as it is very popular. Food was really good. Service could have been a bit more helpful. We had a young child with us, wouldn’t recommend it for families, it’s too cramped and their chairs are low and didn’t seem to have any high chairs. I’d definitely return but only if I had a babysitter.

Outstanding. We booked this place on the strength of reviews. On the day of our visit we were talking to staff in a nearby shop who said that they wouldn’t eat anywhere else in town because the food at Mavi was so good. Very friendly staff and a nice ambience. The moussaka was very popular with our party and there was not a morsel of food went back. Highly recommended.

What a lovely restaurant. Lively atmosphere, service was friendly and efficient but the highlight was definitely the food. The lamb mutancana was one of the most delicious meals I have eaten in a long time. I would highly recommend.

We thought we give it a try because I read that the Turkish cuisine was supposed to be really lovely. We came in without a booking, the restaurant was empty apart from one table, so that question seemed weird. We were placed next to the toilet, although the restaurant was literally empty. The service was uninterested and slow. My wine tasted off, the soup was lukewarm, my food was overcooked, the price for that was astronomical. My partner was livid, although I gave the place the benefit of the doubt. But after all, I think I agree with my partner. It was a terrible experience. I will not go there again.

This is a little gem of a restaurant, the food is really good, tasty and good sized portions. The night we were there was just after a kitchen re-fit and it was a bit quieter than normal. The staff are really good, friendly and professional. Have been there every time in Berwick and it has never failed to please. If you are in the area you must give this place a go, but do book a table.

After reading the reviews I was really disappointed with Mavi, firstly they are charging you £5.50 for a 330ml bottle of lager, the food wasn’t the best Turkish I have had and then to round it off the waiter nipped outside for a fag and when he came back in the place stunk of cigarettes so give it a miss.

We went in just after midday and were the only couple there - very surprising given the great quality and value of the meal. There was a friendly welcome and I really enjoyed the decor plus the atmospheric but not distracting Turkish pop music. We ate from the incredibly reasonable lunch menu. Food is tasty and freshly prepared - lots of energetic chopping sounds from the newly refurbished kitchen. Lovely waitress. Freshly made delicious bread served with the cold starters. The mains were a guvec, served in a fascinating stone oval bowl and a tender chicken skewer. The salad served with the skewer was as fresh as fresh can be. We shall be back for an evening meal.

We popped into this restaurant on our way from Edinburgh to Newcastle, and it turned out to be a fantastic midway stop! The lamb shank was huge and absolutely delicious—really good value for the price. My family went for the chicken shish and mixed shish, and I’ve got to say, those marinated meat cubes were spot on—perfectly grilled to medium. Service was brilliant. Definitely worth dropping by if you’re in the area!

We came here on the recommendation of our hotel. Honestly we were completely blown away, the food is incredible! I tried my husband’s lamb dish it immediately transported me back to Turkey! Which was both lovely and unexpected. Absolutely delicious and as authentic as it comes. Staff are lovely but I’d recommend booking as it’s a very busy place. Teşekkürler!

Brilliant food, full of flavour. Good service. Enjoyed aubergine salad and wrapped vine leaves for starters, and vegetarian special wrap while my friend had lamb chops. All was delicious and filling.

The food was amazing: the best falafels I have ever had. However, there is a typo on the menu that specifies vegan Turkish rice. It is not vegan as it contains butter. Unfortunately, I found out after I had already eaten it. Staff should have informed me when I ordered it.

Super Turkish Restaurant, staff very friendly, loved the Salmon Saute followed be the Sticky Toffee Pudding and drinks of coke with you yesterday. Highly recommended to anyone visiting or living in town.

Even though the restaurant decor is exceptional really great atmosphere the food really lets it down. Had the falfel for starters small flat and dry. I had to ask for sauces which in mind cost 4 pounds each for chilli and garlic which is shocking. Then having the wrap which was okay nothing special stuffed more with large pieces of peppers and mushroom then meat but was filling. My mate had the lamb which was in gravy which was quite small for him we asked for extra bread which again is extra another 4 quid. For the amount the we ate 65 quid with one drink this for me is quite excessive for what you get and I am from London. Otherwise the service is good and friendly.

This is a lovely place, dine in or take out, we’ve done both. The prices are moderate and the taste is delicious. We do dine as a family with Coeliacs, gluten free, dairy free and they’ve been able to accommodate. It’s always been a consistently good meal at Mavi’s.

We always love going to Mavi but this visit was exceptional. We were a large booking celebrating two birthdays and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. They were happy for us to bring our own birthday cake and even set up the candles and presented it to us. As always the food was brilliant too. We had such a great time, thank you!

Had a take-out meal here and telephone ordering was quick and easy and the staff were helpful and friendly and the most of the food tasted really fresh and tasty. The only slight issue was that the salad appeared and tasted like bagged salad and was a bit bland and dry - a shame as a simple fresh salad would have added so much to the meal.

Beautiful food. Waiter rude This was our first time. The food was great, the male waiter not so much. No engagement, no interaction and no smiles. Some people came in and asked about a table (I imagine they booked) and he simply pointed at the clock to say they were too early. Wow. The young lady who mainly served us was lovely. We were finished our meal early and he was desperate to get us off the table. He might’ve had a bad night. Don’t take that out on customers. Completely unacceptable

We had a take away from here and can highly recommend. We ordered whilst waiting and the 30 minute wait was really worth it. Everything tasted so fresh. The portion sizes were great and it is priced very reasonably. Lot's of choice on the menu to suit all tastes.

We did not book but got the last table at 6ish,so would advise to book on busy nights. The lady who served us was so helpful and polite I can't fault her. We had a cold share starter then a lamb with dates and figs dish plus lamb with aubergine and cheese sauce. The flavour we're amazing and the meat was so tender 10 out of 10

Absolutely buzzing beautiful little Turkish place. Second visit here, and each time is a delight. Wonderful authentic Turkish dishes, each fresh, each unique. We reserved for a Friday night, and their earliest table was 8:45pm, and it was great to see how busy they were. Had the mixed grill starter for two, followed by the iskender adana, and lamb kulbasti. Dishes, despite them being absolutely packed, came out quick, hot and fresh. Service was prompt, and every table was well looked after, even though they must have had over 40 covers. Thoroughly recommended, but you’ve gotta book!

Fabulous authentic restaurant with friendly staff who accommodated us without a booking. Halloumi starter was plentiful, the mains of creamy chicken with rice, and lamb and chicken kebab with rice and also a bowl of fries were hot, superbly seasoned and tasty. Too full for a dessert! A great find, reasonably priced.

Best food and excellent service in Berwick

We came here on the off chance as the restaurant I'd booked was no longer a restaurant and hadn't told us! We were more than glad we chose Mavi. The welcome was friendly and light hearted while the menu gave us plenty of choice. We tried some Turkish Cabernet which was delicious (we were given the option of changing the bottle if we didn't like it) and just about managed our generous starters and mains. We'd definitely recommend this restaurant.

Where do I even start… let me just begin with it’s a beautiful situation being on bridge street, amazing scenery, brilliant staff and an even better atmosphere. The fish was merely succulent, the salad fresh, the tater sauce perfectly paired with the fish and brilliant overall… the creamy dish… do I even have words to explain this, the moist chicken was exquisite. Let me just say, if you find me on death row this is my last meal… overall a fantastic meal For every age, possibly the best meal I’ve ever had, value for money 10/10, food 10/10 wine 11/10 staff 10/10. Thank you Mavi, and I will be back.

Lovely turkish restaurant with great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and great food. We made a mistake getting starters as they were a decent portion and mains were a healthy size of well. They managed to beat both of us. Well worth a visit.

When booking a table was warned large party coming in so we went earlier, good job as this is a small restaurant and noise echo was an issue for us. However, thoroughly recommend the restaurant for the quality of the Turkish food (we had a sharing Hot Platter to start followed by grilled lamb chops and a mixed grill) all very well cooked and tasty. Only reason for a lost star was we unfortunately felt the server came across as a little abrasive so we didn’t feel totally comfortable in asking for things. Overall if you like Turkish food recommend give Meva a try.

3 times I've been to Mavi and every time it's been great, always great service and the food is excellent.

Visited this lovely little place while on holiday. We were a walk-in and they managed to accommodate us despite being very busy. The atmosphere is cosy and the service pleasant and attentive. The food is superb, rustic, hearty Turkish fare. Everything looked so good it was difficult to decide on menu choices. The drinks seemed a tad expensive, but is really just nitpicking at what was a thoroughly enjoyable meal.

Just have been in this lovely restaurant today. Compliments to the lovely stuff and good service. Young girls who were serving us were very kind and lovely. Food was delicious. Little misunderstanding was sorted in no time and we were all safe thanks to the quick reaction. Keep doing good job🤗 We will come again!

Probably the best restaurant I've ever been in the UK. I thought the food would be good but was not expecting such a perfectness! Everything we ordered was awesome. Suat was very kind and friendly, Umit as well. If you ever pass by Berwick, make sure you stop here to eat.

After observing how busy this place was for several days, I now know why; it's the best Turkish food I've eaten outside Turkey (and better than most I've eaten there.) Excellent food, service and staff. But book - it's understandably popular.
