A Charming Spot: Maul’s Wine & Cheese Bar We’ve had the pleasure of visiting Maul’s Wine & Cheese Bar on two occasions, and both visits were thoroughly enjoyable. However, we’ve also tried to visit several other times but were unable to get in because they were either fully booked or about to end service. It’s clear this place is popular, and for good reason! The atmosphere at Maul’s is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy good food and wine. While there’s a noticeable lack of vegetarian options, there are enough choices to keep most vegetarians happy. That said, it would be wonderful if they could expand their menu to be more inclusive of vegetarians, as this would make it even more appealing for diverse groups. Overall, we really like Maul’s and enjoy spending time there. If you’re planning a visit, we highly recommend booking ahead, as it tends to get busy. Despite the limited menu for vegetarians, it remains one of our favorite spots for a cozy evening out.

Great service, great wine and food, luxury setting with a great ambience

This is a great place to spend a couple of hours grazing with a good bottle of wine. Hannah is fabulous and so knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

Why is it nobody can get these places right. For a quarter of the cost and 500% more charm, can get leathered in an unfashionable French town such as Arras or Lens even, with infinitely superior wine-its okay here that's it's good point (where this wouldn't last five minutes) and come away with happier memories of the siege of Stalingrad than this grotto of half hearted welcomes. It seems they have a different greeting and comfort criteria for guests who they think have money over guests who they..dont think have money..I was positioned at a table next to a cheese fridge which sounded like a Vulcan bomber taking off and asked for somewhere less noisy. No, you'll get used to it Believe me it was funkin intrusive. No you can't move, screw that I'm the customer.. no you'll get used to it. I didn't And to top it, the place was empty until a booking wandered in, so the mood lightened no doubt in anticipation of healthy tips...I wouldn't even recommend this to Justin Welby. The wine is drinkable but better experiences are to be gained elsewhere. ...all the charm of a leaky gas terminal in Walsall. I drank one as quick as. I could and hit the streets, never to return. The decor is great in the toilets and there's a barrel which is a table. Didn't see any other customers apart from the well welcomed dinner party ..a place like this should be bustling 5 days a week . The goodbye was cheery.

I have walked past Maul's many times since moving to Salisbury. It has always looked interesting so I decided to visit with some friends and spent a few very pleasant hours here. The staff are very pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive. This is primarily a wine bar (cocktails also served) but, for me, the food is the big draw. Food is seasonal and comprises not only very nice and interesting cheeses but also meat and some fish. Vegan options are available, including cheeses. Food is served on slate platters. You can have an individual platter but the idea is to have a larger variety on a sharing platter. All of the cheeses and meats were excellent. Nice, varied, wine list. Prices are reasonable. Maul's is housed in an old, rustic, building which adds to the atmosphere. There is also some outdoor seating for when the weather permits. I have already booked a return visit! The bar is dog friendly. Maul's is also a cheesemongers so you also buy the interesting cheeses etc. on offer.

What a special place! My platter of local cheeses with edible ornamentals was sublime, the wine delicious and the patron and staff delightful. A MUST when in Salisbury. Anne James

Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Didn’t know what to choose off the exciting menu and so, with the wine we ordered in mind, they kindly picked for us, was all delicious! Couldn’t recommend enough and well worth a visit

Sadly last night wasn't as good as previously. Portions smaller. Just felt a bit cheated. Really not worth the money. Such a shame as it was something special previously. Won't be returning.

Came here several times on a recent visit to Salisbury (May '24). Cozy and friendly with a great selection of cheese and wine. Do book in advance if you can.

I really like this place! I have been coming here for a few years now and I always take friends when they visit. The only time I’ve had anything negative to say was when I had the hummus and pitta. The pitta was so dry it didnt matter how much hummus I had with it, it was still dry, and it didn’t help that the portion of hummus was small. This one bad experience will not put me off, I just won’t have it again.

Came here with my friend for a few glasses of wine, all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. They knew their stuff when it came to different wines and listened to my preferences to pick out wines they thought I would like. Will be coming back for my friend's birthday for sure! Special shout out to Andy, Rachel, Hannah, and Charlotte, they were friendly and made the visit worthwhile.

An enchanting night filled with a delightful array of cheese and meat selections. The wines and breads are equally outstanding, each option thoughtfully described, from the anticipated flavors to their country of origin. The ambiance is simply captivating, with tastefully inviting decor. Ideal for a relaxed get-together with friends or a romantic date night.

Wanted a selection of cheeses for a gift, but I only really eat cheddar. The young lady was so helpful, and clearly knew the products well. Very pleased with the selection I came away with.

What a fabulous place with an owner who is so passionate and knowledgeable. The raclette was so tasty, we ended up buying a raclette and the cheeses to take home! We didn't have a budget so spent quite a lot on champagne, red wine, cheese, charcuterie and their amazing cannoli's. Mauls is a fantastic place and definitely worth going. I can't wait to return!

Mauls is one of our favourite treats in salisbury. There's an incredible wine list which is great value for money and super knowledgeable staff for when you can't choose! The cheese and charcuterie boards are gorgeous and we often purchase one of the new cheeses we try to take home! I honestly could not recommend this place enough.

This restaurant deserves the best rating possible, the cheese and wine selections are incredible. The owner and the staff go above and beyond with the service and the place itself is very cosy and classy. 10/10

Went there with our two sons for a very belated birthday present. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable The choose of cheese, meat and wine is very good lots to choose from. Spent about two and half hours very enjoyable. Highly recommended.

We left with bellies full of cheese and smiley faces. The waitress was lovely and we chatted about tattoos.

Went in at 8:50pm thinking l had hour for wine and cheese ( l even rushed from my meal to enjoy the red wine and cheese as my dessert). Was met at the door with the man saying well we close in 15 minutes … Your times are displayed everywhere as 10pm It looks like a great concept and l love supporting ventures like this. Closing randomly will not encourage trade. I said l won’t waste my time with you then turned around and left. Only to hear the barman’s insults behind me. An unhappy bar person who closes randomly will be the result of your place being dead. Which it was. What a shame. Because it looks great from the outside. Onl

We came here for our 17th wedding anniversary. A wonderful setting and outstanding service from our server Hannah, she was most attentative towards us and had a great deal of knowledge of the food and wines on offer helping us to make some excellent choices. Would highly recommend Mauls 10/10 from us.

Very knowledgeable staff and attention to detail. Love the concept of the slate platter of cheese and meat whereby you choose the options and the options are written on the slate and explained beautifully by the waitress. I enjoyed the Japanese dessert wine. Impressive wine menu with good descriptions with smell and taste tips. They welcome dogs as well!

Wonderful place with an owner who is incredibly passionate about his work. Had a delicious Bordeaux wine and paired it with really good cheeses, such as the Black Bomber cheddar, Wiltshire, and Garlic & Black Pepper soft cheese. Also tried the Camembert baked with Thyme & Garlic, which was so tasty, but really heavy in the end. (also found the price of 10£ quite hefty for Rougette with retail price at around 3,50£) Overall, this is a superb establishment and definitely worth the visit (for special occasions). 😉👍

Very professional staff..anticipating what we needed …explaining food and wine…. I can say it was an experience I’d like to replicate in my home town!

Every time I come here I know I'll be coming back again. The food and wine is brilliant but the knowledge of the business owners / staff about their produce is second to none. I often ask for recommendations and have not been disappointed at all. I'm looking forward to trying the racklat next time. If you go soon try the smoked duck breast while it's in season :)

After hearing so many good stories from friends and colleagues who had been to Mauls Wine & Cheese Bar before, we had to make a booking - the food and wine was delicious and beautifully presented with a gorgeous setting. Perfect for date night ❤️

Had a wonderful time here, the staff were very friendly and polite. You get a generous helping of cheeses and meats and there is plenty of choice. The wine list is very well laid out and there are some real surprises in there. I had a glass of Tanat from Brazil and it blew me away. One of the nicest things is the owner is very passionate and his recommendations and discussion made the evening very special.

Just stopped by, two of us and for no apparent reason, was told to wait outside while he was busy chatting. Waited a few minutes like cattle and then went to the pickled frog, shame we didn't do that first ✌️ Edit - Whilst i agree reviews are often embellished it wasn't a few seconds. you made us feel unwelcom by making us wait outside (for no apparent reason because you had tables available). I know Xmas is busy but the whole situation didn't have to occur this way. Regardless have a good Christmas

We had a fantastic lunch here. The service was excellent- staff really enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their products, went out of their way to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. Food was delicious and great value. Highly recommend.

Review edit in response to Mauls: This review is my own opinion. We did infact say that we felt it was a bit dry and were told that this is how these cheeses are served. We were not offered other chutneys/honey. My experience from wine and cheese bars, is that regardless, they always come with a variety. We did feel that the wooden board was not as appealing as the slate. Noje of your pics show the wooden slate nor is this mentioned when ordering. Maybe you should state on your menu outside orders are served differently. As for your server, I did say to her it was difficult to hear and that the music probably didnt help! How am I to know someone is registered deaf? She did not mention this nor would I expect her to. If you feel so passionate, maybe ask her to wear a lanyard to avoid embarassing situations. As for the outside, you do not need permission to add some cushions and maybe a better quality chair/table. So do not respond to me as if I have slated a business and a person. Not all reviews are going to be great and I am not the only person to state its no a lot for what you pay. This was my parties opinion. Lovely decor, nice atmosphere. We felt it was overpriced for what you get.£25 for a very small board. Some honey and walnuts would be a nice addition as it was a bit dry, the chutney isnt to everyones taste. Our "slate" came out on a wooden board which which didnt look very appealing. Seats outside are so uncomfortable, could be jazzed up a bit! Staff were lovely and friendly but the waitress was so quiet when speaking she was hard to hear/understand.

Rachel and Andy made it very easy to book and service there was amazing! Definitely will be coming here again, as it was a perfect first return already. Wine was immaculate, cheese was perfect, couldn't hope for more.

Fantastic Saturday evening here with my partner. We had champagne to start followed by a meat & cheese board with a bottle of recommended white wine. Knowledgeable and friendly service, great atmosphere and delicious food and drink! Highly recommend.

I have visited this place several time. The frist time they help me set up a chesse and wine night in a box for my sister. The passion and care put into it made it so much more special. They even arranged delivery. The second time was to celebrate moving house. We sat outside in lockdown. The presentation was beautiful. The umbrella were an added touch. Then the third time we actually got to eat in. The evening great. The food again was well presented. We munched and chatted over several hours. There was laughter. Putting the world to right. It was a really relaxes environment to enjoy the company of friends and family. Check it out some time.

A tiny bit of Heaven in Salisbury. So many other places you can eat, but Maul's is a truly delicious and satisfying foodie experience.

I loved this place. We had spent all day walking around Salisbury getting caught in downpours. We needed somewhere to rest our feet and revive our spirits and we certainly found it. We decided to be decadent so we drank the house fizz, a beautiful English sparkling wine, at a reasonable price. We were not intending to eat, but had the humus and pita sharing board as a snack. The atmosphere is great. The wine list is extensive and the staff are very knowledgeable. And I would imagine the food is very good too, judging by what I ate and what I saw going to other tables

Absolutely wonderful choice of cheese and wine very friendly and knowledgeable staff attentive but not too much. Absolutely perfect me and my best friend had the best time can't wait come back soon to try more new things.

Wow what an amazing place. Lovely decor, amazing produce. All locally sourced. Dairy free and vegan alternatives. It was all fab. I was a little uncomfortable on the high stools though 🤔

We decided to visit Salisbury for the weekend and we stumbled across this amazing cheese & wine bar, thank God we did! Andy and the staff are AMAZING people who truly know what they're doing. The services was outstanding and the quality of the food was tip top! Myself I'm not a big fan of cheese but Andy mixed up a platter for us and I was blown away. Thanks to his attention to detail and wine pairing I can finally say I eat cheese! We will be back!

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING experience.. Andy made our entire visit here so special.. even as super foodys, we have never had such pairings between wine/cheese/herbs than here. The products are OUT OF THIS WORLD, the service is even better. The atmosphere is incredible.. if youre looking for somewhere to relax, have TOP OF THE LINE chacuterie, and a friendly, knowledgable "maestro" to host. This is your place. We were overwhelmed with the entire experience. Will be back soon!!!

I've eaten in Mauls a few times, but as its closed because of Covid, I thought I'd try the delivery service. I ordered via the website and the food, which was all outstanding, was delivered a couple of days later. I thoroughly recommend the Minger cheese, despite its name, and the Iberian pork pate with cherries is wonderful. Such a terrific change from the regular supermarket choices, and a real treat.

Unable to visit Mauls thanks to Covid and living in Kent was so looking forward to being able to order online. On the first day I placed my order for Brillat-Savarin, have not been able to find anywhere local I can buy one of my favourite cheese’s and also some wine. I was quickly phoned back and was able to discuss my order and to ask advice and given recommendations on wine from Andy. Delivery was received next day. Will definitely order again and hopefully get to Mauls in the new year

Certainly brightened up our first lockdown weekend. I would like to say Andy’s (owner) character adds to the experience, love this guy. We love this place and I find it hard to believe there are any negative reviews, I found this place to be so perfect not just for an afternoon even an evening which we have both done in the “normal” times. My husband surprised me on Saturday evening with your takeaway service with delivery! It was fantastic and really made my night. Thankyou and I hope we can all Assist in keeping a small independent business going so we can attend In person again.
