Love love love the new venue on Scarbrook Road, much closer in vibe to the OG Matthews yard! Plus best coffee in town as always 👌

The coffees were great, like, up there with the best and honestly, the only reason to ever go to West Croydon is this coffee shop!!

Very nice, very quirky coffee shop - coffee tasted amazing! Definitely recommend the chocolate brownie to go along with it, was very rich and tasted freshly made!

Good coffee and food They were still renovating when I was there, but it didn't hamper the atmosphere Outlets to plug in and work are not at every table WiFi is strong And no push to move you along if you want to just sit and work or read.

Mathews Yard has a lovely new home just off Scarbrook Road - definitely pop in and see what they’re up to! Coffee shop/community space for all. Great coffee and food, co-working space, plus plenty of events in the works too.

Glad to have Matthews Yard back to same area you use to be. Coffee is fantastic and love the venue. Great to see so many green trees opposite.

Have been going to Mathews Yard a few times this month dong some research. This was exclusively a Vegan cafe, but since early May 2023, they are are serving non-Vegan as well. The food have been and coffee have been excellent coffee. During the week it is members only, but you get 20% off food and drink. The staff have been great, which has helped been a disabled person

Amazing space super helpful and friendly staff. 4 stars only because the price doesn't reflect the area. Lovely vegan options. There's alot of untapped potential. I'd love to see more variety in the menu was shocked to have spent £21 on 2 coffees 2 toasties and a cake when I took my grandad recently. But the staff atmosphere make up for it.

Nice space which serves food and drinks, has board games upstairs and has friendly staff. There was a comedy show running in one of the rooms upstairs too when we visited on a Friday evening

Lovely café with delicious vegan food

This place has a lovely authentic feel about it. Very calming too. Had a Mocha to drink, which was delicious and one of the best I have tasted. The woman that served me was very attentive, knowledgeable and polite. I did not order food on this occasion. Having seen the food come out to other tables, I will return to try what looks very promising and hopefully complete a 5⭐ rating this place so deserves. See you again soon!

Had gone before, so I was looking forward to the vegan breakfast. Little did I know the menu had changed. I found the portion was not quite as satisfactory for the price, and the coffees took a bit too long. So yeah, I'm a bit disappointed.

Always welcoming and relaxing upstairs the table football keeps kids busy hiding and cakes and coffe keep Mum smiling. Great.location for shopping respite and having chilled Sunday coffee and cake....breccie was good as well for carnivores vegan experience!

A social enterprise in Croydon serving (now) Vegan food, drinks and cakes. I haven’t tried the vegan cuisine since they swapped over, but the carrot cake is excellent. The coffee is decent but nothing fancy. One of the few decent places remaining in town - well worth a visit.

updated review: after a previous bad experience they offered a voucher and we tried again. The kids cafe is worth going to, they have soft play and Duplo bricks, with tables and high chairs close by. The children's food was a hit (fish fingers and chips) although it didn't come with peas as the menu said. My partner and I enjoyed our chicken burgers and espresso milkshakes (all food is vegan). Previous review: Great for adults. Absolutely dreadful for children. Ordered a children's burger and chips meal and a "babyccino" (warm milk) for my 1 year old and the meal was the size of an adults meal, covered in salt, and in a mesh tray with no cutlery so even attempting to cut and shape it into smaller child-size pieces was going to be super awkward. Completely inappropriate. Had to send the chips back and ask for without salt and when they arrived again they were scalding hot, so again inedible to a child for quite a while. Milk never arrived so asked, and they apologised and made it, again it arrived absolutely scalding hot. Plus it was just in a cup with no lid/straw so impossible for a baby to drink. Please please rethink your kids menu because that was such a stressful experience and as much as I love Matthews yard for myself I won't be able to return for at least a few years if that's what the kids options are like Edit: I appreciated the response below so emailed as they asked, but never received a response to that email Edit 2: email arrived 1 month later with a voucher, so they did actually mean it! We'll go try again 🤞

Nice place, not to busy and friendly staff. Good choice of cakes and coffees. Place others items. Prices not to bad. There was discounts for ‘Blue Light Card’ holders, and NHS. Cake and Coffee was nice. Relaxing place. Would come again.

Vegan food, good, lovely latte with oat milk, unfortunately really cold sitting in there, take a cardigan, which was disappointing 😔.

Went here just after Christmas. A charming venue and a bright spot in Croydon. Doesn't accept cash, which is why I can only award a maximum of 3 stars.

Lovely place with delicious milkshakes and brunch. Warning though - this is not a fully vegan restaurant, they do sell cows milk. They also have a pop up visit that sells meat.

It's ok. Toilet available and clean upstairs. They got my drinks order wrong. Paid for both neither tasted great but staff was really nice and they allowed dogs. Lovely sweet hot apple calzone but could only eat half would have gone great with dairy free custard in these weather.

Spacious community art café serving a wide variety of drinks. The coffee was a good standard. Didn't eat there, but everything looked tasty. Reasonable prices, friendly staff and comfortable seats.

6 stars all round for location and atmosphere...calm place in a busy pary of West Croydon.

I've walked past this place for literal years but today I needed a hot drink really quickly and I wanted to support a local business so I popped in. Oh my, it's huge inside and the artwork is stunning! I didn't get to find out who the artist/s is/are but I love their work. I ordered a hot chocolate, they didn't have many lactose-free/vegan milk options and the hot chocolate powder they use is Cadbury's which is not great but it was served hot and with a smile. The upstairs toilets were nice and clean, I was in a rush so I didn't get to check if they have accessible toilet facilities. They only accept card payments and I didn't like being put on the spot to tip (or not) right at the front of the place with a huge obvious digital display. I usually tip for table service and for good table service at that. I did tip but I hope that Matthews Yard are paying their staff at or above London Living Wage and I hope the staff stop putting customers on the spot to tip if they are getting a takeaway.

Great vegan food, great art, great coffee! Check opening times for food. There's a new cocktail bar Thursday till Saturday which is really good. If this place was in Clapham junction it would be full all the time, Croydon is a bit quiet but this place should be on anyone's vegan destination list!

Went to the free comedy club on a Friday. Comedians were of a good standard. Drinks were a good price as well. Will certainly go again.

I had a lovely vegetarian soup served with buttered bread and it was very tasty, the prices seems very fair for the food. The service was also very nice. Will definitely be back when I'm around. Just surprised that on Google it says closed on Monday as it was open when I was there.

A great part of the Croydon community. Matthews yard offers amazing vegan food as well as a decent selection of locally brewed beers. They organise a lot of community events such as poetry, music and comedy nights. Staff are also lovely! And it's dog friendly :)

First time visiting and we were pleasantly surprised. Friendly service and great coffee.

I always prefer to support local and Matthews Yard never disappointed in their old location and certainly does not in North End either. Great music, wheelchair access (although toilets are upstairs) medium Oat Latte and piece of Carrott cake £6.33 in a roomy, relaxed atmosphere. Could not find Wi-fi?

Not very comfortable and over priced food and drinks.

Good place to sit and work during the day. They provide power points and USB charging points and it's peaceful and cool on a hot summer's day. A really good range of drinks including lots without caffeine and there's no extra charge for a range of non-dairy milks. Being able to order from my phone at my table was useful so I didn't have to leave my laptop unattended.

My local favourite. Its a great place to visit with friends, family and even to find a cosy corner to study/read/work alone. My favourites are cappuccino with soya milk, avacado on toast, sweet potato fries and carrot cake 😋

Great place and staff are friendly

Ordered delivery via Uber Eats. The meal was not given to the delivery driver, only the iced latte. The Iced latte was not packed well at all, the lid had fallen off and spilled out into the bag which caused it to rip. Tried to find a phone number for the resturant to ask what had happened to my food but they don't have their number listed on Uber eats or their website. So I've been robbed of £20.81 (Which is alot of money for a burger & chips in the first place), for 1 quarter of a Latte. Not impressed shan't be ordering again.

Food was fantastic, but the wait is long when it is barely busy. I thought I could get a nice quick lunch but it ended up being longer than anticipated!

Excellent vibes, and refreshingly decent coffee for Croydon

The food was quick and delicious. However this restaurant is advertised as vegan online and when my sandwich arrived, the milk allergy box was ticked on the sticker, and this wasn't clearly labelled on the menu. So, from experience, just double check with the server about which items are vegan if that applies to you.

The Yard burger was delicious, almost forgot it was not meat! Staff were so friendly, helpful, vibing. Felt really comfortable here. We went for a work goodbye and we had a great time and will be back.

What a Fab artistic venue, it’s pops out at you as you turn the corner from West Croydon Station. Staff exceptionally friendly and inviting 🤩. Had lunch, great quality tea (they even give you more hot water without a blink), Hummus Falafel Wrap, very tasty and wait for it one of the best Super Dark Choc Brownies YUm. Great selection of beers and cocktails if ya fancy. Great value for the quality. Keep it up as coming back 😊x

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VENUE HIRE EXPERIENCE! I hired the event space upstairs at Matthews Yard for a book launch party. The bookings team got back to me promptly and made the whole booking experience a pleasure. On the day of the event, the staff serving my guests were really lovely and made the event a success. I was also lucky enough to use their new PA sytem and stage lights. Would highly recommend.

Such lovely food. I had the avocado on toast - lots of lovely flavouring on it- and the blueberry bakewell which was delicious. Everything vegan which is fab.

Went there as I had just got off a train into west Croydon - what a find. You can order and pay from your table which if you are in a rush like me needs to be considered. My coffee came quickly but the food (as they’re making it from scratch) took longer. I’m the end I spoke to one of the staff members and it came on a plate … and with a takeout box! Very thoughtful and it allowed me to get to my meeting on time and eat the rest at my leisure! Thanks guys!!

I was made to put on a tip before the food and drink were served and I believe this is against the law. Also, when my tea was given, no spoon and the food also came without any cutlery. I went to get a spoon, but they had run out spoons so I waited for a top up of it. Many others at my table also had no cutlery so had to get up and find it by themselves.

Tried this place with my daughters and we liked, nice coffee, nice milkshakes and very tasty cinnamon bun. Definitely we will be back

This is such a gem of a place due to the food, quality, customer service and overall feel. The prices are reasonable for the quality, & the taste of what you eat. We had the vegan food across 2 days which tasted excellent. In fact, it was so believable the meat eaters couldn't tell the difference as they thought it was real meat. The drinks, mostly made up of teas and coffees in different forms from iced teas, coffees to the traditional drinks were also excellent. They even made a custom drink for me which was very amazing. The customer service is 1st class, the people behind the counter should be commended. All were friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend everyone to visit this place for great food, drinks and service. Even hosting an event here was fantastic. Mo

Fantastic experience in the events room at my friends book launch, setting, atmosphere/staff and food/drinks were great. Really impressed, it was first time I'd been here. There were people playing board games and chilling and others eating downstairs too, lots going on but a chill vibe.

If you find yourself in London Road West Croydon, this is the place to go for a coffee, snack, glass of wine.

Just had a drink which we ordered via the app, and after 20 minutes, we asked where the drinks were, and the waitresses apologised and said she would bring them over we still ended up waiting 35* minutes for our milkshakes and there was only three other tables with customers at them

We came to try the new Kids Cafe and loved it. We've been meaning to visit Mathew's Yard for ages - it was definitely worth the trip. Such a relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious. Coffee was also very tasty. We'll definitely be back again soon.

The place is really really nice with the corner position overlooking the busy Croydon. We only visited once and ordered a carrot cake and a "fresh lemon tea" that was basically a very expensive cup of hot water with a slice of lemon. Regardless of the price I would love to visit the place more often as I really like the position and the style. However I am not a fan of vegan food and, especially, the "wanna be meat" kind of meals. Looking at the menu my suggestion would be focus on natural vegan ingredients that can make an amazing meal, rather than chase "fake-meat" to have meat-like food. This would probably attract more non-vegan customers.

I visited Matthews Yard with my daughter & granddaughter for the first time yesterday with apprehension, as I am a big meat eater, and a big eater full stop and this is a vegan establishment. I ordered the new Big Matt burger & chips. It wasn't cheap but I have never eaten a better burger, wether it be a vegan one or a juicy beef one. It was large, 'meaty' & juicy, fresh, with so much taste, and the accompanying salad and sauce inside the burger was just as good. Along with this it was accompanied by fantastic crisp chips of vast quantities. I ended up fully replenished and satisfied. There was no room for what looked like fabulous fresh cakes. I have nothing but huge praise for what turned out to be the best lunch I have had for a long time. The staff were very friendly & helpful and the coffee & oat milk was also very good. Many thanks

It's a nice place to chill out and have a great coffee...They serve a very tasty sourdough bread and lots of cakes!.This place is big, there are two floors, downstairs is better decorated that upstairs, but upstairs you can find sofas to relax and you get also amazing views of the sky. Love the sunsets in here.

Top this-isn't-bacon bap and delish avo on sourdough toast. Great coffee - always a deal breaker/maker for me. Add in the lovely staff, chilled vibe with nice tunes in the background, community-focus and... Well, go find out for yourself! Definitely deserving of a deop-by if you change trains or buses at West Croydon. And also if you don't 😊

Delivering to a site over the road. Lovely little place. Coffee was amazing. The chocolate banana loaf was out this world. The ladies serving were really nice, polite and helpful.

I entered the place by coincidence but was immediately impressed both with how nice it looks and how much of a perfect spot it is for a cake and a tea, especially on a sunny day. Food and drinks are of extreme quality and prices are not expensive. I was quite surprised with the spot, specially because it is in a very busy area just above the station but still it's a super quiet environment and very friendly staff.
