Matthews Hall Cafe in Exeter

We had lunch here today, in the garden. We chose the sweet potato burger (with a yummy brown roll and a delicious sriracha mayonnaise) and the Buddha box (brown rice, falafel, hummus, veg) and thought both were excellent for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike - tasty and healthy and not expensive. I don’t know when I was last so impressed with a meal in a cafe! Service with a smile, too.

We popped into Matthews Hall Cafe for lunch and had a great lunch. We both chose the Buddha Bowl which was excellent and very good value for money. We sat outside and it felt very safe - friendly and efficient service.

Relaxed atmosphere and lovely tasty food, We ordered lots and ate every bit yum My daughter had a Buddha bowl type meal. Said it was delicious

Fabulous café with proper, homemade cakes and scones. Good prices and plenty of space. A real gem! Thank you for a lovely morning coffee and scone. It was so lovely to find you!

Mi primera visita al café desde antes del cierre. Todos organizados muy bien para el distanciamiento social y se sintieron amistosos y seguros. La tostada de queso, pesto y tomate era increíble. Realmente no me puedo quejar de nada. Volveremos a visitar pronto.

Estaba limpio, espacioso y tenía pasteles y bollos caseros adecuados. Tenía un bollo cruzado caliente. Estaba cauteloso sobre probarlo y muy sorprendido de lo delicioso que estaba. El café era encantador y los dos empleados eran realmente agradables. He visitado aquí varias veces y siempre me ha impresionado.

Había buscado este delicioso café en Happy Cow antes de nuestro viaje a Topsham.Después de un agradable paseo por el cercano Quay Antiques Center, estábamos listos para un poco de sustento.¡No nos decepcionó! ! !Esta pequeña joya, nos sirvió con 2 fabulosas patatas de chaqueta. La mía tenía un chili encantador (Ve) encendido. Mi G / f fue por la opción cheezy / beans (Ve).Ambas eran porciones grandes, con una ensalada de buen tamaño e incluso una olla de Mayo (Ve)El personal era muy educado, amable y dispuesto a conversar.Además, la cafetería estaba muy limpia (¡y los Loos!!)Estábamos bien llenos, así que decidimos quitarnos 2 pasteles para más tarde.Una pieza de Lovely, Moist Ginger Cake (Ve) y una pieza igualmente encantadora de Tiffin.Ambos fueron generosamente repartidos.Todos los precios también eran muy buenos.GRACIAS, Rich & Jude x x

Really good place to pop in for a bite! The cheese scones was easily my favourite! Highly recommend.

just what one needs when in need of a cupa. Guys are very warm and friendly. I never go anywhere else in Topsham for a quick cupa.

Tuve mi favorito - bollo de queso con dos trozos de queso y un delicioso pepinillo picante - hoy. Incluye una tetera y tiene muy buena relación calidad-precio. Como era la última visita por un tiempo, me di el gusto de comer una tarta de Bakewell. Realmente adorable. Este es definitivamente el mejor café de Topsham.

Whilst passing through Topsham decided to try this place, was not disappointed! Had a bacon, brie and cranberry mayo toastie which was slightly personalised to my liking. Possibly the tastiest lunch to date. Shall definitely be returning!

Disfrute al máximo de venir a esta cafetería familiar, donde siempre nos saludan con una sonrisa amistosa. Traigo a mi anciana madre para su taza regular de café y queso una vez a la semana y ambos deseamos que podamos venir mucho más a menudo. Excelente lugar para detenerse y disfrutar de un almuerzo ligero o un sabroso refrigerio, ideal para familias con un gran jardín y muchos asientos. Admirar mucho la aceptación de perros dentro del café hace que la vida sea mucho más fácil.

Lovely cafe with friendly staff, can get very busy in summer and staff were very happy and helpful to accommodate dietry requirements. Veggie/Vegan chilli non carne was delicious!All the cakes are homemade and I had to try a famous scone to take home and I highly reccomend!it’s a little hidden in the entrance to the town hall, but you have to try it out!

Me and my daughter had a fab cheese tea. Delicious cheese scone, cheddar cheese and devon fire chutney, then finished it off with a lovely moist lemon drizzle. Personally found the staff warm and friendly. Will definitely visit again when we are in Topsham.

Interesting to see previous reviews about grumpy staff. Been here a few times for coffee, each time failing to see a smile or pleasantry from the short haired grey woman serving. She always seems stressed and hurried even when the cafe is empty?! Delicious cakes but as do all the coffee shops in Topsham.. Where the staff seem much happier to see customers. Hope your year gets better lady and gives you something to smile about

We were very fortunate indeed to have found this cafe on breaking our long journey home from our holiday in Cornwall to the Midlands. A very good choice of food on the menu, including mouthwatering scones which we took home with us, more than satisfied four hungry people who devoured the excellent, value for money food, which was served quickly and with a smile. The writer's only regret was leaving it too late to order his favourite pancake as the cafe was closing. If only we had local cafes like this in Birmingham!!

Had a cheese scone and also an olive and feta one, both were lovely and also warm from the oven. Friendly staff lovely building parking right beside it and on the road

This is a small cafe, but it packs a (good) punch. Excellent food and although small, I had plenty of options as a vegetarian.....and the cakes were good too. We will definitely be going back soon.

We were looking for a place to eat in Topsham on our way to Exeter Airport. Following Trip Advisor recommendations we popped into Matthews Hall ....Wow it was bursting at the seams with not a free table anywhere, obviously a good sign. We decided to have a wander and return and we are glad that we did. Friendly professional service, excellent food, (see pics) clean restaurant and loos. There are a couple of tables outside for smokers or if you have a dog.

I’ve previously visited when the chicken pie was a special and I have to say it was just that!

Absolutely top quality ingredients and food., prepared by a cook with a special skill. All served by excellent helpful people who had a good word fo everyone. A real asset to the local community and great food for people of all ages. Food hygiene and amenities excellent also. Great value for money. We would love to return when next in Devon.

My friend and I decided to meet for coffee in Topsham last week, my friend had been recommended Matthews Hall Café so we decided to give it a try it is quite small about 7 tables but the food we ordered was excellent. I had a cheese scone with butter and my friend had a fruit scone they were wonderful and reasonably priced and warm very mouth watering and the Coffee Latte was also reasonably priced and large. I would certainly recommend this place. An I will most definitely be returning.

This is a great place to pop in , with daily specials and homemade cakes - always something nice.

I called in for coffee with a friend and was so surprised to find gluten free cheese scones that were so well risen, light and with a perfect balance of cheese, herbs and cayenne that I shan't go anywhere else in Topsham. Apparently their addition to the menu was in response to a request from a customer, how's that for service!

Enjoyed some very good coffee, tea and cakes sat outside the hall in the sunshine on a busy Saturday. Staff very nice, service very pleasant and some nice craft stalls in the hall itself. Fresh local fish on sale in a van outside . Great place to watch the world go by.

Very tasty food, and one of the cheapest cafes in Topsham, most impressed. There are so many VG places to eat in Topsham and something for most people and this place is no exception.

Great range of home made food, made daily. Wholesome and filling. The spinach and feta quiche is best that I have tasted, actually full of spinach and feta, not wondering where they are in the quiche. Gluten free brownies, which are so yummy, not too sweet like some are. The place is clean and bright with very friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit for coffee time or lunch.

I found out about Matthews Hall café via social networking so went to visit to try it out during a visit to Topsham from Kent and we were not disappointed. What a wonderful café, The food was amazing at a great price, the staff were friendly and welcoming and we didn't want to leave.

Great cafe, Everything homemade fresh daily , at great prices too ! Friendly service from the staff too. Topshams best kept secret , but probably not for much longer !
