Matteo's in Hartlepool

Absolutely terrible experience. Luckily we were meeting up with family so the company was very good. The food was actually nice but we waited an hour for a starter then another hour and a half for the main course. Then came and took one of the main courses away with no explanation then brought a different one 10 mins later as apparently it was wrong. To be fair by this point we were so hungry we would have eaten anything. We ordered the 3 course special but only 3 out of 5 courses ever arrived. Never asked if we wanted any more drinks in over 2 and a half hours. A tiny restaurant which has the ambiance to be perfect but seriously lacking in service.

Excellent food and excellent service. We were there to celebrate a friend's birthday, the staff were very attentive. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The birthday girl was presented with a free cocktail to finish off the evening.

Lovely little restaurant! There are some vegan options on the menu which is great. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

Sunday lunch, food was red hot, lovely fresh veg and generous portions. Other diner had Parmos which looked lovely, would definitely visit again, and special mention to Billy our waiter, friendly and polite.

Went for daughter's 18th birthday staff couldn't have been better made for a great night. Food was spot on and very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend

Amazing evening at Matteo’s this evening. Not only was their normal menu available but a board of specials along with a specific Valentines menu. Fantastic, well-priced food alongside amazing service ensured the great evening we were looking for. The wine complimented the food so well and was perfectly chilled. Specific small details, such as roses, romantic music and restaurant decorations did not disappoint. Nothing was too much trouble and staff were comfortable, relaxed and confident. An amazing experience and our thanks go to all involved, from kitchen to service. It was a complete delight to eat at your restaurant and we will be back soon!

The food was great. One of our party had several food allergies and the waiter made every effort to provide food that would work for them. It was all tasty and reasonably priced. We would go back if in the area.

First class from start to finish

Booked table for 2pm on Sunday, took over 30 minutes for food order to be taken and over 1 hour to be served starters, mine had to go back as stone cold in the middle pleased it was not meat. Calamari very bland tasting apparentlygarlic sauce helped with the flavour. Garlic bread starter with cheese very greasy(to much cheese, only asked for a sprinkling of cheese). Then waited another 1 hr for mains by this time our 3 year old grandchild was restlessness and getting tired. Ordered chicken parmo and lasagne. Parmo was OK at best far to much cheese to make it look thick because chicken had been flattened to next to nothing. Most of my parmo left couldn't eat it way to greasy from the cheese. Lasagne was thick, had plenty of meat unfortunately didn't taste that nice very bland and too much cheese again (it was good size portion) came with 2 pieces of garlic bread. Really disappointed, manager stated they had party in, however if we where told when first went it thete was more than 1 hr delay with food we would have gone elsewhere. Positive note homemade chips where tasty. Unfortunately we were not told about the party or you were running late. The discount was given on 5 glasses of pop and my bank statement shows it was nearly 5pm when we left. We paid £60 for greasy mediocre food at best.

We wait over 30 minutes to get our Oder took then we waited over 1 hours for our starter and 1h for our main we get there at 2pm and we left at 4pm not even finishing our food everything had to much glaric on and cheese bad service,the chef was talking to people instead of cooking and food was bad and expensive!!!!!! I rate it 0/10

I was recommended to Mateo's and my wife and I visited a couple of months ago. We had a superb meal and for our first visit we were treated like old friends. Will be visiting again soon.

Knew I’d chosen well as soon as I stepped inside … delicious smell of garlic! All the classics available. I chose tagliatelle Alfredo, he had spaghetti bolognaise. Both dishes piping hot and very tasty. My glass of rose was chilled to perfection. Very good value, friendly service.

This place has a great vibe, it has a lovely family feeling & we just felt so comfortable. The food was excellent, we had starters & mains all very good! Great food and service 👌 An impromptu night out with friends in Seaton and thought we'd pop into Matteos (on the off chance they could accommodate us -yes they did) and it was fantastic. Service was great, not intrusive but there at the perfect time to order more drinks and for help with questions (and recommendations) with meal choices. Ambience in restaurant is lovely and matched with the service provided and spectacular food definitely a special night-see you soon, thank you 😊

Worst place I have ever been to. The staff were so rude! Waited 20 minutes before a drinks order was even taken, then another 10 for drinks to be brought and a food order take. 1 hour and 15 minutes we had been there before our starters came out!! Could cook better at home. Was asked if we wanted deserts, absolutely not! Couldn’t wait to leave. When leaving we saw rats down the side of the building and near the kitchen back door which was bordering onto where they cook! Staff were also stood smoking there as the place was as busy as anything. No wonder for the wait!!! Would not return and hope no else does. Doesn’t deserve to be in business!

Went for a family Sunday lunch, excellent value for money for the both the portion size and quality of the food and drinks. Potato Skins and a Lamb Roast with homemade Yorkshires and all the trimmings. Served to us by very friendly staff and lovely to see the chef come out to chat with diners too. Definitely be back and will recommend!

Had a great night. Food was the best I have tasted for a while. Had sirloin crusted in horseradish. Superb. Great service. Friendly staff who help make the night enjoyable will definitely go again.

Food was good. Pasta great, pizza probably average but proper Italian pizza. Absolutely great value food though especially on the early bird menu. Service wasn't the best. Seemed the owner, although doing so out of trying his best, was probably exerting a little bit too much control so there were some longer waits than would have been expected.

The food was really nice. Could not fault what I and my partner had. There are plenty of meals left on the menu for us to visit many more times😋

Don't accept card but did not tell any one until customers went to pay The staff were half asleep they couldn't remember what you ordered 2 minutes apart. I asked what beers they had and ordered then for the same server to return one minute later and ask if we wanted a drink, we ordered the parmo sharer which included drink which she then asked again even though we had already had this discussion what beverage was included with meal offer and been served the drinks. Very poor service they staff seemed very forgetful and distracted.

This spot is great if you have low expectations. I ordered a blue cheese chicken dish with thrice cooked chips and my partner ordered a pasta dish. We were sat for 15 minutes before anyone offered us a drink, waited a further 15 minutes for the drink to arrive. My partner asked for a sparking water and they gave us tonic instead. Good eventually arrived and there was no spoon, after asking for a spoon and not getting one I went to find one myself. Waitress did not ask us if we wanted anything else when the food arrived and left before we could ask, so after hunting down a spoon I then had to further go and hunt down some black pepper and parmesan cheese. First lot of drinks were nearly finished so asked for a glass of wine for my partner, as we were still eating. Again waiting ages for a glass of wine, went back to the bar and saw the glass of wine had been poured and offered to deliver it myself but then someone kindly took it over to my table. I was honestly up and down so much throughout the meal I feel like I had put in a mini shift. Desert time, the waitress couldn't tell me what any of the deserts were in the case by the bar so I took a guess and ordered one. No one could tell me how many you get per portion or how much they were as they were small. So I hedged my bets and ordered two, whilst my partner ordered a tiramisu. Their coffee machine was broken, so no coffee for us. I assume their kettle was also broken. Fed up and disgruntled we asked for the bill and the bill was delivered to the table. After waiting for someone to come and charge us for about 15 minutes. I flagged down someone and asked them to bring the card machine, as I had seen other people pay their at the table. Only for the waitress to laugh and say oh no you go up and pay. Went to the bar to pay and a member of staff came out of the kitchen and told us "don't stand there, you have to stand there" and pointed to the corner. My god, just charming! Got out and figured out they charged us for 2 tiramisues and not 1. Too pissed off to go back in. Everyone else seemed to be getting good service so I can only assume they aren't keen on lesbians! Definitely won't be going back and needless to say I did not leave the tip I was planning on giving. Very very poor service, would get better customer service in a kebab shop.

Good food, the marmalade salmon was very nice, unfortunately took 2 hours to get a bruschetta and a marmalade salmon. As a solo diner 2 hours is a bit much. Service was poor, basic lack of attention, took over 15 minutes to get an initial drink. House red for an Italian restaurant was not up to scratch. I wasn’t asked once during the two courses if everything was ok, wasn’t asked once if I needed anything, no signs of an offer of dessert 15 minutes after my main was cleared so I called it a day and left. I had a little difficulty paying by card, waiter was a little rude, apparently there is a sign saying cash only due to Wi-Fi being unavailable but I hadn’t seen it, it’s 2023 so there shouldn’t be any excuses. Shame, could be a great little place, little training for the staff on how to read and look after your customers, plus get an internet connection for your card connection, it’s not rocket science

Went on a lunchtime. Plenty of seats. Lovely atmosphere. Food was beautiful.

We had dinner here on Saturday night September 23rd. We stayed at the Marine Hotel next door and just walked in without a RSVP. They we extremely kind to these exhausted Americans and seated us anyways. This place has a feel of a small Italian bistro, but the food is top notch. The service was warm and engaging making us feel as if we were locals, they see every night. The food and the kindness helped calm what was a very long, jet lagged day in country. We are very thankful and hope they have continued success.

We had the Thursday offer of 5 mini Parmos with 2 sides and 2 drinks. Absolutely amazing good value. Tasted great highly recommend it. Never had a bad meal

Just went to Matteo’s for mine and my nans birthday, all staff were absolutely great but Sammy was top tier making us laugh enjoy & our time there 🙂 the food was also amazing! 4 of us had a 2 course lunch and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed our food as well as the service (particular mention to Toni 👏). Regrettably for the restaurant we were the only ones in today but we would highly recommend Matteos

Ordered an array of food to try! Was all delicious, fresh and the seafood sourced that morning. Each had house wine with our meal which was lovely. Toni served us and was engaging and very hospitable. Had a look at the upstairs room with a view to book for a family party. Prices were spot on.

Although the young staff were very attentive, half of the cutlery was missing and the table was dirty .I had garlic mushrooms to start which had no seasoning at all .My wife had Arancini balls which was plain rice in bread crumbs ! Again no flavour or cheese .I had a pizza for main which was undercooked .My wife had a chicken dish which was over cooked .My second pizza was OK.when about to leave I met the chef who said " if you wanted your pizza well done you should have said " I replied that I only wanted it cooked !

We arrived for a late lunch and enjoyed the cocktail offer. Excellent Aperol Spritz(s). The lunch offers are a bargain. The spaghetti carbonara was not creamed out like other establishments. My children demolished the pizza. The calamari disappeared in minutes. Excellent service. Thank you for staying open for us xoxo

Hi went for food at 1830 sat at table no one came to serve us after 20 minutes not even for drinks so got up and left. Went next door to marina hotel we we're served straight away food was fantastic so maybe they need to take a leaf out of there book

First visit and it won’t be our last. We had tried to go to a different restaurant but they had stopped serving food and came across Matteos by chance. We ordered starts which were lovely a so fresh and great portion size very filling. Then the mains were also very nice freshly cooked and again very healthy sized portions definitely you won’t leave still feeling hungry. Had sticky toffee pudding to share and it was to die for. The staff were very friendly and we never felt rushed. The restaurant is small but lovely. Will definitely go back and take our friends. Excellent

Whilst staying in the hotel next door my wife and I visited Matteo's twice and totally recommend this cosy little place. The food is first class, the house wine is very good and the owner and staff are most amenable. We cannot recommend you try this place enough.

Booked a table 10th June and arrived to be told a more important party meant we has to move...after this took an age for drinks to be delivered chaotic service.....food absolutely sub standard...steak was like leather and was definitely not as advertisedor requested..no point offering more feedback...all in all poor service food sub standard the only benefit they have is passers by can drop in if unlucky enough to get a meal. I remember this place as Krimos first eatery and was fantastic...this was terrible....won't be coming back

The menu offers a good choice of pasta and other dishes. The staff are friendly and the food is well presented and tasted great. A good place to enjoy some Italian atmosphere in the centre of Seaton Carew.

Beautiful staff, so good with children. Funny and the food is incredible to. Fairly priced. I brought my family from down south to come and try it as it’s been a favourite of ours for a while and they couldn’t believe how lovely the staff were.

You guys smashed it. We were in Gordon's Ramsey restaurant, others 4stars restaurant, but yours- was much better. Service absolutely professional, Valentines day manu was genius. We enjoyed every bite. We would recommend your place plus we will back not for once that's for sure. We are so happy that we found this place ❤️

Crusty bread in the bottom of a bowl with creamy garlic mushrooms on top not on the side. Needless to say the bread was just mush. The waiter spent 10mins convincing us to have a steak cooked medium rare we agreed. Then received the steak well done 🤔. £20 for main course that included a poorly cooked sirloin with a few soggy chips. No mushrooms no grilled tomatoes. Very disappointed 😞

Mm what to say! As we are new to the area and were told that this restaurant was really good and well worth a visit. So we booked a table for tonight and we also invited our friends as we owed them a Christmas gift....

Today I took my wife in the restaurant for a spot of lunch. It had just opened so it was quiet but it was a Friday lunch time.. anyway seated straight away with a very friendly service. Ordered drinks which came sharp and we both got potatoe skins to start which were brilliant with the garlic dip, I opted for a hot parmo while my wife got the chicken la creme. Both meals were fantastic and we'd definitely go back. I had mentioned that it was my wife's birthday so after the meal the waiter bought out a piece of cake and 2 shots and also sung happy birthday. It was a great end to the lunch....

This is a friendly restaurant which gets quite a lot right but our main message is - dial down the sauces. We love Italian cuisine for the emphasis it places on the ingredients. The cod was perfectly cooked but the sauce, including a plentiful supply...

I ate here last night for the Early Bird 2 Course Dinner. Incredible value for £8:50 & i was not disappointed. The Potato Skins with Garlic Dip were very tasty as was the Diavolo Pizza. I also had an excellent bottle of Sicilian Red Wine...

Wide choice of good Italian dishes....menu needs revising as too many options and unclear what the ‘special offers’ are. Excellent pizza which turned out not to be on list of lunchtime specials but still great toppings. Pate & chicken dishes also very well presented/ prepared...

Went to Hartlepool to celebrate our son in law's birthday. Went to Matteo's Italian restaurant, and had a marvellous meal. The restaurant was full so booking is advised. The starters of mussels, Cesar salad were delicious as were the fillet steaks, salmon and spaghetti Bolognese....

As always the food is great. I had the stater and main from the the Specials Menu and they were excellent. The Lobster Ravioli was immense. The staff are fabulous and very attentive and the food is fab. Thank you so much for another lovely...

Absolutely gorgeous. Food was superb. Triple cooked chips were fabulous. It’s a 10 from Len (strictly speaking) Diane sauce the best we have tasted. Staff lovely and friend too! Happy days!
