Matou in Liverpool

Came year years ago and remember it being very nice - quite a classy joint! Unfortunately that's no longer the case. There was nothing wrong with our visit per se - the food was fine, the service was fine but it has lost the special feeling it had before. The floor was sticky, it was very noisy, felt quite rushed and, despite the 'no sportwear' policy, a lot of people seemed to be wearing what I would class as sportwear. It like it's now 'catering to the masses' rather than somewhere you'd go for a special night out.

Very good value lunch. Everything freshly cooked and very good tastes. Excellent service. All with a great view of the Mersey.

Another level this restaurant. Perfect location and view. Staffer are attentive and lovely. Food was superb. Like I said this is levels about ya regular pan Asian restaurant

Great location, right next to the Liver building with views across the river. 10 mins walk to conference centre, or £5.50 in a cab (it was raining heavily when we visited). We ordered a set menu option, which was great value for money with lots of different dishes that were all delicious. I particularly enjoyed the salt and pepper ribs. So much food that we couldn’t eat it all! A bottle of decent Malbec wine was £27. Good night out.

What an amazing restaurant. Our waitress, Anne, was amazing. no question was left unanswered, nothing was too much trouble. The food was incredible. We were a party of 9 family and friends and it was the best evening we had in our 3 days and evenings in Liverpool. Would highly recommend.

Fabulous restaurant overlooking the Mersey. Took my daughter for a pre Birthday meal, food was delicious and great service, the waitress was very pleasant and engaging. Reasonably priced and great place to watch the sun go down. Outdoor terrace and bar too.

Great location never visited before and highly recommended by friends. However, would definitely NOT recommend. Met with a rude abrupt barman named Neil. Most arrogant and pompous man that I had the misfortune to meet. Manners go a long way and obvs these were not deemed a necessary requirement for Neil whilst in a customer facing role. First told that we can only order flavoured gins by the double however they could not explain why. Money making scam would be interesting to notify the licensing authority on such stance , encouraging you to drink more or you can’t purchase your drink. First time in my life that I’ve ever heard such a ridiculous rule. Then when he served me again, blatantly ignored my presence at the bar after making initial eye contact and continued to converse with and order the staff about. He finally acknowledged me by saying “what do you want”. My Gin and tonic was then served in a long glass with no accompaniments as with other local bars , considering this place is more expensive.the standard is poor . The service was way below par to the standard you would expect here . Neil you would be better suited working in an undertakers with that permanent frown on your face and not in a public establishment , bet your a joy to work with NOT. Great achievement though Neil as you’ve won the ward tonight for the most obnoxious, miserable and arrogant bartender . An experience that we will not return for and I’d recommend others didn’t either.

Over hyped. Warmed up poor quality Chinese food. Far superior Chinese food in chippies in the area. Do not bother. No meat on the ribs. Hot and sour soup wasn’t very nice full of jellied mushrooms. Rice was like microwave stuff. Duck very dry. Starting to seem a bit run down in there also not what it was ten years ago. Best avoided head to China town or local Chinese restaurants for a proper job.

Came in after the river of light. The restaurant was very busy as i assume everyone was expecting fireworks just like me and my family. It was a shame there was no fireworks from the council. The restaurant still catered for us with no booking and staff were very friendly

Wir kamen ohne Reservierung und bekamen gesagt, dass nach ca 20 Minuten etwas frei wǔrde. Wir sollten so lange an der Bar etwas trinken. Als wir nach einer Stunde nachfragten, bekamen wir gesagt, dass wir noch einmal mehr als eine Stunde warten müssten. Als wir daraufhin Stress gemacht haben, bekamen wir sofort eine one tollen Tisch mit genialer Aussicht. Essen und Drinks waren sehr gut und dann auch der Service. Got engaged to my partner on Wednesday the 20th of September and it was absolutely fantastic. The food was amazing and I take my hat off to all the staff as they set it all up for me and recorded the whole thing. The atmosphere was unreal and I would advise anybody to go and have a meal here again the food and service was faultless. Me and my partner will 100% be returning. Good food great place great staff and good prices.

Matou Matou Matou what can I say I feel so let down I have been a regular visitor to the restaurant since the end of 2020/21 but last night everything was second rate shortage of staff apparently some staff members had left due to university commitments an order for drinks that we are still waiting to arrive????? so much so it was quicker to remove myself from our party and go to the bar and get the drinks myself. Drinks! tried to order on three different occasions 2 Strawberry Daiquiris only to be told you were not serving them but as my very observant guests pointed out to me people on other tables were being served them made me look very foolish hopefully the next time I visit things will be better as a footnote when your spending £300 on a night out you would expect a lot more than what I received last night

A really nice place to eat. We had a set menu and everything was really superb. Good portion sizes and excellent flavours. The added bonus was our table that gave us great views of the Mersey. One tiny observation, staff weren't particularly friendly, that bejng said no one was unpleasant.

We recently visited Liverpool, and had a meal at Matou (pan Asian restaurant) with friends. We have eaten here before, and love the food and the vibs at this popular venue. We had drinks outside on the rooftop terrace first, it’s very popular and always busy (in a good way). We had a mixed seafood sharing platter to start, and chose various dishes from the extensive menu for main courses. We enjoyed sea bottles of wine with our meal and were one of the last tables to leave!!

Lovely view across the Mersey if you're lucky enough to get a table with a view. Unfortunately, the restaurant staff and food did not live up my expectations. Staff literally on you to order drinks at ridiculous prices. We ordered the sharing platter, which came out with the rest of the starters, meaning we had finished when the other mains came out. We questioned this, and the waitress said that sharing platters are classed as starter but failed to say this when we ordered. The food came out really quick, which suggests that everything is pre-cooke. Would I return, never. They had the cheek to add on £38 service charge, too. The only good thing about the restaurant is the view. Don't bother going and wasting your money for overpriced food and drinks.

You know what it’s ok, expensive but food is nice. The staff are literally on you to order as soon as you sit down and pay as soon as you have finished. Money money money. Then £10 each to go on the outside area that is normally free because there was a gig on. A gig wr already had tickets for. We would have stayed and had more drinks if there were not so greedy. Sort it out Matou, not the attitude we need in our city

Four of us, all adults, visited Matou for a birthday celebration on 1st July 2023. There was a music festival at the Pier Head at the time so was a bit noisy. However, the acoustics of the restaurant are not good as everyone’s conversations seemed to merge into one annoying cacophony. We ordered king prawn starters which were delicious, main course was a Green Thai curry which was exceptional, so tasty and they got the spices just right. Two others ordered the Singapore Vermicelli which was far too salty and a disappointment. It was expensive, especially when the restaurant automatically add a 10% gratuity charge onto one’s bill. Overall the afternoon was very nice and I would recommend the place and go again myself.

Visited whilst showing family from Australia around Liverpool, and was refused entry due to the presence of my assistance dog and told that no animals were allowed on the premises. My dog was wearing his jacket and had his lead flash clearly identifying him as a registered assistance dog. The staff member asked to see his license which they arent issued with. Clearly the staff were unaware of legal obligations regarding the rights imposed upon establishments regarding assistance dogs and should have a good look at the Equality Act 2010. Really disappointed and was left feeling embarassed by the whole encounter and the impression left on our overseas visitors. Wouldnt return here just on principle.
