Stopped off here for a meal, which was good value for what we paid, £24.00 for 3 main courses and drinks. Meals arrived hot, which is a bonus, staff friendly and place clean.

Only had cake and tea/soft drink this time, but its a fine place to take a rest in from shopping. Prices are average with other café type places.

We had a lovely hot coffee with danish pastry and beautiful and very large scone(shared). It is a very busy self service restaurant.

This is now called the Village Restaurant and is a place to avoid.Overpriced awful food which is cold by the time you get through the shambolic system to the till.Cakes and pastries on open display should be covered,no one wants food that has been prodded and sneezed on numerous times.Staff are not interested and have no customer skills.Avoid this awful place.

We have used this cafe several times now. Can get very busy at peak times. Something for every one from a large range menu, some daily specials as a rule too.

All I can say is no wonder it shut down and changed its name probably the worst meal in Gretna. Whatever it is called now it's a big improvement to mathiesons

The only thing fresh here was the air outside. Actually disgusting 'food' here. Everything seemed to be dry, tasteless and extremely overpriced. If i wanted to eat something like that I would of bought a pack of sandpaper and went to town on it.

Visited the Gateway at Gretna whilst on a coach trip, was desperate for a cup of tea so my husband & I decided to go into this café which seemed ok from the outside. This café is vastly overpriced although we were hungry there was no way I was paying almost £4 for a sandwich, the £1.60 each for a cup of tea was bad enough. There were a number of empty tables but no-one could sit at them as the dirty dishes were piled high, the floor was dirty with paper and food droppings all over the floor. Certainly wouldn't recommend from both the cleanliness issues and the fact that they are ridiculously overpriced for both the service and product quality that they have on offer.

Wasn't expecting restaurant quality food, but the best way I can describe this place is School Dinners. I paid almost £6 for a piece of meat pie and a handful of luke warm frozen chips. The plates they use are what's usually reserved for children's meals and are not much larger than a side plate. Overpriced and low quality!

I must disagree with the negative comments on this Restaurant ..I have been in a number of times with my family whilst shopping and have never had cause to complain, I can only speak as I find , the food is always good and served by pleasant staff, and unlike others I have never found the toilets other than spotless.Well done to all and I will see you next time we are shopping in the Gateway.

Nice seating area outside the café and ideal for dogs, was dirty and tables were wet. The sit in was queued out and the lady on the take away was short with customers who were asking her for advice.

I found the staff to be very helpful. I am someone who does not eat meat and there was a good selection of vegetarian options. For a standard cafe the atmosphere was good and the food was of a good standard too.

we went to visit the Gretna Gateway outlet village in Gretna...we called in here as a bolt hole for the hunger and a drink...it was 5pm and the shopping park does not close till 6...we walked in and there was silence...no one at the door or the till...we decided to pick up a tray and went to see what was on offer...god forbid we had asked for anything cooked...I heard a girl shouting something to one of the other girls who was around the corner sweeping a very filthy floor...the lady on the till was like a bloomin' dragon...no smile...the manner on her was give me your money...it was a horrid experience and I pity anyone who goes into the café...also, the disabled toilet door was hindered by a big mop and bucket contraption and I was too afraid to ask for it to be moved...I felt like the women in there were far too busy cleaning up as we ate!!! approx. one hour before they should have been purely so they could leave early...I will not cross these doors again...very poor service.

We stopped off here from nearby Gretna Green for a mid-day lunch. The food on offer was your usual cafe menu - sausage and chips, macaroni cheese, soup etc. We did not expect Michelin Star quality food, but we were still left hungry and disappointed. I opted for the Sausage and Chips, a food you can rarely go wrong with, but it was rock hard and tasteless. My partner opted for Vegetable Soup, which was water with large chunks of veg thrown in. The meal was also vastly overpriced for what was on offer. The only saving grace was the authentic sounding local name above the door!

I ordered a child portion of macaroni cheese and chips for a hungry 9 year old and the portion was more suited to a 3 year old. When I said "is that it?", I was told "yes, but you've still a juice to get". We counted 6 chips and 2 tablespoonfuls of macaroni cheese. Won't be ordering that again.

We were returning from a 5 day break in Blackpool and our coach had stopped off here for a one hour break. We went into Mathieson's cafe/restaurant for a mid morning snack. All the filled rolls and pasties and many of the cakes were pre wrapped and looked very unappetising. The hot food didn't look much better either. It took forever to get our teas and coffees and all the while my wife's luke warm pastie was getting colder as her temper got hotter. It seemed the wait was down to the staff who were at loggerheads with one another for some reason. To make matters even worse the girl on the till went out of her way to be as surly as possible and the look I got for asking for some napkins made me quake. Anyone visiting Scotland for the first time must have seriously considered turning around and heading home. This is an eaterie I will never return to!

Didn't like the fact there was a small dog in the bar. Not that I don't like dogs I just thought they shouldn't ve allowed in there on a busy Saturday night when the misc was blaring and people were drunk. The poor little dog looked terrified and I had to leave because it was upsetting me. My dog would of been scared too. Its no place for a little dog when people are pissed, dancing, shouting ect it's just not fair on them at all

I used to like visiting here but it is going downhill fast. The man on the counter was the most miserable person i have ever seen,he didn't smile once and was quite abrupt in his manner. This could have been due to him being alone at the counter doing everything whilst 3 staff members worked the drive thru.Service was really painfully slow even when another employee started helping. The entire restaurant was filthy,no tables were being cleaned and there was rubbish all over the floor.I probably won't return to this branch.

The breakfast was still on when we got to the outlet, so I had that. Was spot on. The restaurant was clean and cosy. Would recommend if you get hungry.

I have reviewed this Restaurant as part of the Galloway Arms Hotel, so this will hopefully clarify the earlier reviews. We have been on a number of occasions since the last review and we have not been disappointed with the food at the Nine Mile Bar & Bistro within The Galloway Arms Hotel. On this visit we chose two times Two Course Specials priced at £14.50 each. The Starters were battered Chicken Goujons, which was quite a large portion and Tempura coated Prawns. Both dishes were very good and the Chicken alone would have been enough for my Wife as a main course. (Small Eater). My Wife had the Beef Stroganoff and I had the Salmon in Dill sauce for the main courses. Normally, we tend to have just the main courses and therefore we had to take home the chips, which were provided along with the Stroganoff half & half. A pint of Moretti is £3.50 and a large Chardonnay is £5.00 and the total bill without tip came to £37.50. The surroundings in the Hotel's main bar is simple, but cozy. A 10 minute drive from Dumfries gets you to this Hotel and I think that it is worth this very small effort.More
