We flew all the way from Newcastle for a surprise birthday and gets to master thatcher only to find there was no alcohol that people could have so the party guests had to go across the road to tesco to buy drink. They seemed to be charging what they wanted the coke was out of a 2 litre bottle cost 4.00pounds for a pint what place doesn't stock up for a party

This pub is local to me. I hadn't been there, due to Covid closure for a couple of years. . I went for a Sunday lunch to see how it is these days. I also went with a view to inviting my family, of all ages in the near future. The staff are friendly and helpful. It is a clean and healthy environment. The pub/ restaurant appears to be struggling a bit with the return of regular customers. I was first to eat my lunch. The best time for freshly cooked food. The lunch was not ready at the advertised time. Not a problem as I would prefer a meal properly cooked, than rushed. There is a barrier so that customers cannot breathe over the food. This is good for health and hygiene. I want to rave about my meal, but I can't. It could be unfair of me as for years I was a qualified experienced chef. These are helpful hints, and unasked for advice to up the game for reviews. Give the chefs more time to cook the carvery together.,perhaps arrive to cook 1 hour earlier ? I can only comment on the pork, as this is what I had. Start with rubbing salt all over the crackling skin. Score it in lines in advance for easy carving. Start on a high oven temperature to seal in the juices. After approximately half to three quarters of an hour turn down the heat. It will depend on how many joints are being cooked in the same oven. Do not baste the crackling till it has started to 'bubble '. The pork was hard (could not cut it, or the crackling) To avoid this slow down the cooking process. Lowertemperature andlonger in the oven. Timeforthe joint to'rest' You should still see clear juices. . This is why I say come in 1 hour earlier and start the meat first. On carving the knife should be able to glide through the meat. (Not a fight between carver and joint!) Cauliflower/ brocolli cheese. The sauce had not been cooked through before being added to the vegetables. I could taste the flour from the roux. I was taught to cook out the flour at each stage before adding the milk. The cheese used lacked flavour. All these things are simple mistakes than can easily be adjusted. Why are the parsnips burnt? Cut the oven temperature. Burnt parsnips are not flavouful, just burnt. The stuffing was undercooked too. Compliments for the heated up frozen veg, There is more I could say, but I thank you for a generally good plate of food, and fairly priced. Saved me from cooking and washing up!I wish you well and hope that offence won't be caused (as I would like to show my face in your pub again!!

Attended the Master Thatcher for a family lunch today for 9 people and two doggies in the snug area set aside for families with pets! Opening up after lock downs. Water kindly provided for our furry friends! Superb carvery with three meats, dauphinoise and roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and the usual trimmings, excellently presented! Chef really knows what he is doing! Family enjoyed the six dessert options provided in generous portions. Had a great time thanks to friendly and welcoming staff! All for 1/3 rd of usual gastropub prices! Excellent value for a great treat in these hard up times! Just round the corner for most people! Tenner a head including drinks! Had a really great time!

On finishing work at 1pm I didn't fancy going home to cook dinner for myself. The Master Thatcher was close by so decided to give their carvery a try. I'm so glad I did. It was excellent. A good selection of meats and lovely well cooked vegetables. Very generous portions too. I went in to eat on my own. I was immediately greeted and shown to a table by a freindly waitress. The woman on the food counter was lovely and chatty too, which makes all the difference when you're on you own. Will definitely be coming back. Thanks very much.

The carvery was plated for you and was less plentiful than it was before covid . The beef had a steak of gristle in it and the Yorkshire pudding was tough. No roast parsnip and generally basic. No-one tried to tempt us with a sweet or coffee.

Came here last week for Sunday lunch. We had booked a table but no need as wasn’t busy at all. Told the barman that we had a table booked but although friendly , didn’t seem bothered or show us to our table. We then tried to order drinks but most lagers were unavailable. We each ordered a carvery , found ourselves a table and went to collect our carvery. The lady behind the counter was lovely and the food was very good (especially the gravy!)which is why we decided to come back again today, however the service at the bar was even slower today and not great in my opinion but once again the lady serving the carvery was great and the food very good. Sadly there’s no atmosphere in the pub/restaurant & the bar lets the place down , if it wasn’t for the carvery we wouldn’t have come back for a second time.

Come on pull this place back up or it will soon be closed again

Four of us dropped in for lunch last week. The pub was very quiet following the lockdowns. We had good service as you would expect in the circumstances. The surprise was the high quality cooking, presentation and standard of the food. The chef even went to the trouble of making me a Keto Salad instead of fries and bread with my burgers. A small menu which was done really well, the wraps and burger stacks far better than you would expect for such a reasonable price. Highly recommend.

Outside caterer doing some tasty no frills pub grub, well presented and good prices too. Add to that some good music which made for a great atmosphere, can't stand these no music chain pubs. 10/10for effort in reopening in this extremely difficult time, really enjoyed my evening. A simpler and more classic pub food would go along way, where the pub could do with perfecting the basics. As a new venture this place could be a gold mine, limited vegetarian health options available. Chicken burger was made up of chicken thighs and sauce. The menu is overpriced for what it is, a lot of deep fried food things. Service was a little poor, forgetting to bring request water and no offer for drinks. Room to improve, really hope they can make a go of it at this hard time. Some tweaking and it could become a local for a lot of people.

Quite quiet but it was a Wedsnesday night, able to have a nice quiet corner to sit and eat. I had the Ultimate Fish and Chips and it was amazing, the chips were some of the best I have ever had. Served with curry sauce, peas and a pickled onion. Hubby had steak and enjoyed it very much. Ordered halloumi fries as a side and ended up taking most of them home as the portion sizes were amazing! Less than £30 with 2 drinks. Only downside was lack of real ale choice. Definitely going back again!

A great place for a lawyer to have lunchtime meetings with clients. Plenty of discrete tables and fantastic food.It is a shame more people have not yet discovered the lunchtime menu and specials that are all homemade. The Garlic Mushrooms today are the best ever. Followed by a homemade seasoned and meat filled flaky pastry, shaped like a Sausage Roll with salad garnish. To call it a common Sausage Roll is an injustice and the dish deserves a better name.

What shocked me was within a few minutes it was returned to me in exactly the same state l had given to them. Basically they opened up “my burger “ did whatever to the meat and put it back on the same bun l had bitten into. I would have thought any decent food place would have replaced the full thing rather than recycle a bun, even McDonald’s will give you a new portion of food....pathetic service and would not go back.

I attended a Christmas party with friends this evening and was left bitterly disappointed with my meal. I ordered the belly pork which as im sure most people are aware is a very succulent and juicy piece of meat. However what I recieved was dry, chewy and had more bone and gristle than meat. Not to mention that fact that I find it astounding that if you want to replace peas with baked beans you have to pay for the privellige and are then presented with the equivalent of a thimble full.

Service was a bit slow and when meals arrived, mine was wrong (fish and chips instead of the 5 bean chilli ordered). We had the Carvery, meat was nice, good selection - Gammon, Turkey, Pork and Beef. Not a great selection of vegetables but edible - Peas, broccoli, parsnips, carrots and cauliflour cheese that had nearly finished, no rush to replace it, we were told it would be 5 minutes. Yorkshire puddings weren't great, far too crispy and oily, Mr Foodiegurl pointed out it was more like a prawn cracker! All in all, value for money, you gets what you pay for. Not amazing.

Since our visit the same time last year the pub is under new management. Six family members met up for a Xmass get together. It was Thursday lunch time, and the pub was very quiet when we arrived at midday, although it did get busier during the couple of hours we were there. Not sure if the staff or the tills were new but there was a lot of confusion when we were placing our orders at the bar (last year orders were taken at the table) and some confusion when our sweets were brought out, good job they were not busy. This is a nice pub with a pleasent atmosphere. The food was excellent, I had the fish and chips and I would say that they were some of the best I have had. We were all pleased with the quality of the food. The sweets were delicious and quite large. Price wise, my meal was £11 and sweets £5.50, not the cheapest I guess but worth the money. Can recommend, just hope the service improves by next year. Nice pint of IPA.

I have previously visited the Master Thatcher for food and drinks and each time it was "ok". Since the new management has taken over the service is better and since they have hired new chefs the food has improved greatly. On my most recent visit I had the carvery. It was busy Sunday afternoon (between 1-2pm) and there was a queue for the carvery - the restaurant was also really busy. The bar staff and waiting staff were really polite and helpful. I didn't have to wait long for food and the chef carving the meat was also really polite and efficient. We dropped in by chance and both had burgers, having a Mexican and a American burger which was served up and looked really good and presented well. It wasn't, it was the worst burger ever tasting oily, and of plastic. This was definitely not home made but of poor quality mass produced food, the chips were edible but everything else was not good sorry to say. We realise it was latish on in the day, but obviously the food wouldn't improve anytime no matter what time we eat. I always try to write something positive, but food wise can't on this occasion, other than the service was ok and it looked good. Disappointed and we shall not be returning to eat here.

The last orders Bell was rung at 10:30 and time at 10:40pm.I accept that there is no point keeping a pub open if there is no clientele, but we were a group of 6 and had all purchased a round each. Needless to say we will find an alternative venue in the future. As 4 of our group live on the Blackbrook estate I can’t see that it is good business sense to alienate the customers you should be trying to attract!!

Great food and great atmosphere. We were the last ones to get to the carvery, meat and all the trimmings were perfect. Had a cheesecake from the cake stand that was gorgeous, would definitely recommend

Can't rave enough about the delicious food and the waitresses at the Master Thatcher. The food was excellent, especially the Halloumi fries! Will be returning again soon! Looks like the place has been redecorated to a good standard also. Nothing like the above photos!

This is our local pub and thought we would give it a try as we heard it had new owners, wish we hadn't bothered! We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was very quiet. We both opted for the carvery with my partner going 'large'. The meats were dry, veg was cold and the Yorkshire puddings were flat and tasted stale! To be honest it gave the impression it had been sat there since it started at 12 (we went in at 4!) Very stingy on the meat compared to other places that do a carvery, I got given half a slice of beef and half a slice of gammon ham! You can go to other places pay less and get a better meal! No one came and checked to see if everything was okay, they were more interested in talking amongst themselves or with the men at the bar drinking! Safe to say we won't be back and won't be recommending as a place to go for a Sunday lunch in the future! It's not difficult to get a carvery right!!

Having read the latest negative reviews I can only conclude they were eating at the wrong place! We went for a carvery on the same day as the one in August, we were the last in before they stopped serving and the meat was perfect. Everything still tasted hot and fresh! We went again last night and had the 2 for £30 combos and it was gorgeous. The chips did not taste remotely like oven chips, they tasted like my nan used to make! Ribs are delicious and steak cooked rare as we asked. Good value.Staff and landlord very friendly.Highly recommended.

Went to a wedding reception last weekend and it was absolutely wonderful. The food was amazing, the rooms ambiance was just right and it was decorated to perfection, the staff were equally as wonderful. Look forward to coming back for a Sunday roast sometime soon.

The new management and staff were extremely accommodating with my wedding reception in the function room. As the previous management left a few weeks before my wedding with my deposit, the new management honoured my deposit and went above and beyond to make our special day the best it can be, and they succeeded 110%. They let us have the function room the whole day before the wedding to get it set up, which they also helped with. Rather than a set buffet menu, the head chef/owner gave us ideas and let us create our own menu. A lot of our guests commented positively on the food. The day after the wedding, the owner helped us clear up the function room, which we were surprised at as the previous owner wouldn’t have. Thanks to the management and staff at The Master Thatcher, my husband, our guests and I had an amazing day.

Came into the pub a few years ago with a few friends after football, pub felt a little empty and dirty and didn't have that warm feel you expect in a nice local pub. However, after a trip recently with my girlfriend the atmosphere and feel of the pub had been transformed! The food was superb, the bar staff beyond polite and the the atmosphere warm and a perfect place for the all the family! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good meal and good times!

After visiting this pub again after an excellent previous experience, I was massively disappointed! Seems to be taken over by new management and staff, staff were slow and seeemed like they could do with some hospitality training. The menu was limited and as for the quality of the food it wasnt what it used to be at all. Chips were frozen rather than the lovely homemade ones before, puddings are bought in rather than homemade. It's a real shame as the pub had so much potential and was so busy before.

So, I arrived with my girlfriend having booked a table at 2pm. I informed the waitress I'd be having the nut roast because I am aware that it takes a few minutes to warm up. She told me just to tell them at the bar. I can give her the benefit of the doubt because she seemed new.I went to the till to order, there were three people waiting and one girl serving, there was another woman (who looked like a manager) doing something with the till? Perhaps counting money. It irks me when I have to wait in a queue while I see spare staff. I was always told when I worked in retail that queues are one of the highest priorities. Anyway, the Guinness had to settle, I was expecting, given that there were two young girls and a manager stood about, that they would offer to bring it over. They didn't, so I gave it a couple of minutes hoping that my nut roast would be ready (the Guinness was 4.50 a pint, I expect it to sprout legs and walk over to me for that money). It wasn't so we gave it a few more minutes and let a queue of 6 people go in front of us (really wish they had told the kitchen that I wanted the nut roast before I ordered.I advised by girlfriend against the beef as it looked incredibly dry. Also, THE YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS LOOKED DEEP FRIED! They were dry and crispy, I am confident they were deep fried or at the very least had been sat around for ages. The stuffing was crispy? My girlfriend didn't even recognise it as stuffing. The broccoli was undercooked. My nut roast looked like a grey slab of matter. I'd be pretty surprised if they cooked it there.. The meat was all dry and there was no mint sauce. The selection was poor and I'd recommend a plethora of other places before coming here. The merry monk and the Allerford inn just to name a couple. You can get a better carvery for the same price if not cheaper elsewhere. It's a shame, because it never used to be like this.

Really disappointed been here before and had a good meal. Today the meat was dry. I asked for gammon and beef only got tiny amount of beef. Food was cold. Gravy watery and tasteless. Veg overcooked and watery. The only ok bit were roast potatoes. Honestly the worst carvery I have ever had

Come here sometimes during my lunch break (40 minutes) and often have to wait for service as there never seems to be enough staff. Today was the worst by far - waited ten minutes and was passed from staff member to staff member - and just for a couple of drinks! The soft drink wasn't easily available and the member of staff disappeared into the cellar, when she reappeared I asked for a different drink to speed things up. The next drink was alcoholic and she couldn't serve it, presumably because she was underage, so we had to wait for someone else to become available. He was flat out doing other things so another long wait ensued. It's not good enough for a town pub where there must be a lot of customers who just pop in during their breaks.

Met my husband on a blind date here 10 years ago so felt appropriate to return on our wedding anniversary. Quiet for a Saturday night, no problems getting a table. Food was good, I had rump steak, hubby had mixed grill. Fabulous chips. Onion ring was great. Service was just right, not too overbearing but attentive enough. Good choice of desserts but no tummy room! Maybe next time! Relaxed atmosphere and plenty of easy parking. 2 meals, 2 beers and 2 soft drinks for £41. Not bad at all ☺

For those of you out there, that love and rightfully prioritise quality meat for your meal - this is the place for you, as the Master Thatcher offers a fantastic mixed grill. Just about resisted the urge of ordering a second one! We all enjoyed our meals, (Burger, Gammon steak, Beast burgers etc). Not often you come across a pub that does their own chips!Staff were fantastic, worked hard, seeing as it was busy - received friendly service. Met the landlord, a pleasant ancient-faced elderly gentleman (sorry!).....whom fortunately has a great sense of humour and is indeed doing very well for this place right now!I'm sure I'll be seeing you again.......

Visited for an evening meal. Good service as always. Menu choice a bit limited but overall good. Food is nice - a bit plain and perhaps overpriced for what it is but overall it was a nice experience. Only problem was that the restaurant was so cold! Even with a coat it was quite chilly. Regardless, it was a reasonably enjoyable visit.

Having met friends for a walk at Fyne Court we decided to call in for some lunch afterwards. What a little gem! Beautiful pub, clean and well presented. Cheerful helpful staff, good menu which catered for our Vegan and Gluten free friends. We would definitely visit again

Looking at the reviews, we were not alone in receiving the standard of service we had. Ordered food at 1:40, pub was starting to empty. Our drinks came after about ten minutes. One had a fly in it. Sometimes that can’t be helped. Our food didn’t arrive until 2:50. We weren’t told about the wait and any member of staff that passed us avoided eye contact. Clearly, the kitchen needed some help seeing as there was an hour wait on salad… Bar and serving staff were stood down one end of the pub just chatting. Surely one of them could go and assist in the kitchen? When our food arrived, one meal was almost cold and the other burnt. Awful wait time, food wasn’t great, staff weren’t very helpful. Only come here if you want to wait an hour for some burnt bread and salad….

Was shown to table, really friendly staff. Chose the breakfast and a couple of drinks. It looks expensive but well worth it. As wasn’t busy, came out quick. Though it was starting to fill up. Only criticism is plates need to be warmed as food went cold quick, and more butter. We would return.
