Went for lunch had chicken Caesar salad it was awful chunks of bland chicken soggy croutons and lettuce drenched in awful dressing far too salty and they charged £18 for it . Looking round none of the dishes looked appetising

The place down the road states that it is “The best restaurant in Gatehouse of Fleet”. I’d challenge that! The Masonic Arms up the road is FABULOUS! Extensive, creative menu, cooked to perfection and served by friendly and efficient staff. Very highly recommended!

Got the masonic burger. But having been four times previously and ordered the same thing 2 were faultless but 2 were average, the last one and I mean the last was extremely dry and the chips were solid, not just mine but the whole company's. They need to sort out their consistency issues.

We are regulars here as we holiday in this area at least 4 times each year, but have been put off by the hike in prices of late. However so glad we gave lunch another try as the sandwiches were excellent and good value too, my husband had the Masonic Burger which although a few quid more than last time was really tasty with a good portion of chips and salad, I hope the menu keeps the lunchtime choices and we will be back again.

A lovely meal, friendly staff, perfect location, and planned to perfection by the owner. We got married in May and didn't want a big fuss day. We wanted somewhere to simply have a meal after the church with family and friends. When we contacted Sofia, she said they didn't do weddings, which was perfect for all concerned. She arranged a set menu with input from us, with choices for everyone. From the moment we arrived after the ceremony, everything was done to perfection and went like clockwork. The dining room was beautifully laid out, the staff were welcoming, and the food was delicious. The bar staff amused us with music from Spotify, doing requests for the sing-along. We booked all the rooms so we could stay. They were beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was as nice as the wedding meal. I can't thank Sofia and her staff enough, and I'm glad she doesn't do weddings. An elderly family member described the location and day as the best wedding he'd been at since his own.

We stayed here one night on our way back from Southampton en route to the ferry the next day. The rooms were spotless, really beautifully decorated and the bathroom really impressed my daughter (possibly has been posted all over TikTok haha - so the fact it was TikTok worthy says it all). We also ate in the restaurant, we had prawn salad, chicken and broccoli lasagne and a couple of other specials - all were stunning, especially the prawn salad. So fresh and lots of different things on the plate. Homemade coleslaw was so nice. We then also had breakfast the next morning. My husband had the full fry and my daughter and I had avocado on toast with bacon (she wanted smoked salmon but they had run out). Overall a really lovely experience. This is our second time there and we will definitely be back.

Booked a table here to have a meal on the last night of our holiday. We had our little dog with us so was seated in the bar area. Our dog is a very small 14 year old Yorkshire terrier so I carry a little bed and blanket for her to sit on when we go out. A member of staff came and told us she wasn’t allowed on the furniture and had to go on the floor. The day before we had been in for a drink and she had sat on the furniture just the same for over an hour and nothing was said. The area is either dog friendly or it’s not, simple as. Dog incident aside, we felt extremely uncomfortable with the FIVE members of staff stood around the reservation ‘podium’ to the side of the bar talking and watching over our every move. Over staffed or under managed possibly? Having read another review relating to dogs in the pub I gather you market the pub/ restaurant as a ‘High end’ establishment. I have to wonder whether waiting on staff wearing pink crocs and Nike trainers and bar staff chewing gum is reflective of this? This put a dampener on the evening as we had planned on staying for dessert and further drinks. The food was excellent so compliments to the chef but front of house leaves a lot to be desired.

We have eaten here in the past and remember as better than it was on this occasion, but that may be our choice of meal. My wife had smoked salmon starter which was very much on the mean side with the smoked salmon (which is hardly expensive these days), while I had pate which was fine, She had a lamb shank which she enjoyed while I had their speciality burger with which I was underwhelmed. Not too struck on their Covid precautions, a bit casual.

We were delighted to find a pub where we could have an early evening meal since very few places have yet to re-open since self-catering tourism opened up again on 26 April. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming and the covid safety regulations were impressive, although there was no separate entrance and exit when there could have been. Social distancing was very good, with tables very well spaced. My husband enjoyed his prawn cocktail but was unable to spread his pat of butter on the soft brown bread, since the butter had obviously come straight out of the fridge. A surprisingly common mistake in many establishments. My deep-fried brie was disappointing since the insides had not melted and the redcurrant dressing was watery and tasteless. Wish I'd had a dollop of cranberry sauce from a jar instead. The satay sweet potato and spinach curry would have been very enjoyable had it been hot and my husband's seared duck breast suffered the same problem. Our plates weren't hot and the barely-heated food soon got even more cool. Such a shame. I'm sorry to say we didn't complain at the time since the staff were so pleasant we didn't have the heart and anyway, what could they have done? Reheated it in a microwave? We had high expectations that weren't met, sadly.

We went on a Monday night in September based on promising veggie options. For the starter we shared the Quinoa dish, wish was original and ok.For the main course my I opted for the Bolognese with Quorn and my wife had the veggie lasagna. Both dishes were served promptly and well presented. The quorn dish was served with wild rice and the lasagna was served with fries. The lasagna was ok but it did not look layered like the dish should and when we queried it with the staff serving she came back and explained it was presented like that because it was cut from the main dish and transferred into the metal bowl and therefor lost it's layering. We were not that convinced with that explanation as the dish was devoid of any great amount of pasta and what was in the dish looked more like wide tagliatelle. We do not think either dish represented value for money(£11 for the Bolognese). We had a pleasant chocolate dessert between us.Overall the restaurant/pub has a pleasant atmosphere and we will probably return later to see what the other veggie options are about.

Due to the rain today, we were forced to consider eating inside for the first time since lockdown. We were made to feel very safe by very good adherence to guidelines. The young lass who served us had a good number of customers to look after, but worked efficiently and without appearing flustered or stressed at any time. I notice that she was meticulous in cleaning as she went, as well as politely advising customers on the rules when necessary. We were impressed by her work ethic. The food was excellent - the open sandwiches are like a main meal with the salad, coleslaw and superb chips. So, also very good value as well as tasty. On arrival we had to stand a while until someone deigned to allow us in. Place was busy so we could accept that.Taken to our table, we were sat with sunshine streaming onto the table; other times of year no problem. We asked if we could move to a table next to us out of the sun. No, that table was reserved.Food arrived and woe is us.Pate was fine but the Masonic Burger should not have left the kitchen. The meat was tasteless and water(meat quality?) had seeped out and soaked the bottom half of the bun. No hot plate. The gammon salad was salad with gammon. Enough said.57 minutes after sitting we decided to go elsewhere for coffee and amazingly the table next to us was empty. Thanks for letting us swelter. Outstanding food, service and atmosphere.. We booked the 8pm slot for a table on a Tuesday night . Know gatehouse from many years (decades!) ago working and living in the area. We shared a duck salad which was superb, I had vegetarian lasagne and himself had beef medallions with haggis and cream/whiskey sauce. Outstanding food and service . We shared a cheesecake and himself had an Irish whiskey. Masonic is first class for food, service and atmosphere. The food and drinks were served quickly by a young team well manged by the excellent Lady owner (I guess ?)....they were really busy both timesEven when we had an issue with our food on the second visit it was sorted very quickly to our full satisfaction promptly and without any drama - very well managed, thanks.Reading some reviews I think some people need to think what hospitality work is actually like. Pubs are flat out Fri, Sat and Sun anyway, and now with the discount offer, it's full on Mon, Tues and Weds as well, LUNCH and DINNER ! People are working themselves into the ground and doing their utmost in challenging times. Come Autumn making a living maybe very much more tricky for pubs and they must and are making the most of the trade whilst it is there..... So I say, chill out folks or stay at home, you've probably only come out because its cheaper anyway...Well done The Masonic Arms Team, we loved it

Arrived on time for our booked table, left standing at the door for far too long before any of the passing staff even acknowledged our presence. Just a ‘hello, be with you shortly’ would have done it. A full 10 mins later we sat down. Drinks order taken, drinks left on bar & not delivered to table. Food order taken, still no drinks. Eventually after further prompting, drinks & food arrived. Ours was one of just 2 tables occupied in the bar area and despite plenty of staff the service was poor. Unfortunately on this occasion the food did not compensate, bones in the hake, soggy chips and dry sticky toffee pud. It was all just ok. An empty pub has no atmosphere but good service and communication can make everything better. Staff with charisma who can engage with customers is desperately needed, especially when the food is nothing special. What a shame as we have been coming back here for years and usually recommend it to everyone.

We were shown to our small cramped corner table and ordered drinks then despite there being plenty of staff standing around the bar we were forgotten about until I caught the eye Of the lady in charge. I ordered the lamb steak which was supposed to come with fondant potatoes. Not one in sight the lamb was sat on what appeared to be chunks of boiled potato with the skin on. Both my dish and my partners came with Avery small helping of veg. Pudding wise we had sticky toffee pudding and chocolate panna cotta which was most definitely not a panna cotta it arrived in a ramekin dish and looked and tasted more like a thick rich ganache. Not what was on the menu.

Nice atmosphere in beer garden with music playing. We were shown to a table and our drinks order taken. The first issue was when we asked for water for our dog. We were advised to go and fill up a bowl in the ladies toilet. Never been asked to do that before! Fortunately a nice young waiter offered to fetch a bowl of water and did so. We ordered 4 portions of fish and chips. Unfortunately one portion was full of bones. To be fair when we pointed this out and requested an alternative meal this was done. Me biggest gripe is that we were not asked for our contact details. We were visiting the area and had been asked for our contact details in the restaurant we ate in the night before. Given the current situation I do think we should have been asked. Hopefully this will be acted on to give customers a greater peace of mind. A decent enough meal but lacked finesse.

My wife and I booked a meal here as we were staying in Gatehouse of Fleet for a night. My wife had the the Quorn skewers with rice and I had the fish and chips and both were lovely. We both had desert (sticky toffee pudding / apple crumble) and they were lovely as well. If in area will definitely come back

We were visiting family to celebrate a birthday and we went out to the Masonic Arms. We reserved a table and were offered to either sit in the pub or in the sun room. The sun room was slightly more formal than the pub for dining but still felt comfortable. We had a great meal and two of us were coeliac and they catered for us with plenty of gluten free options. The pheasant and monkfish were highlights. Really enjoyable evening.

This part of Scotland is not renowned for its excellent pubs so when we booked a week in Gate House of Fleet, I’d researched the area and thought the pubs sounded promising! On the first evening, the men in our group visited the Masonic Arms to try the draught beers. They returned 40 minutes later with long faces saying the beer they’d tried was awful and they hadn’t been impressed! A week passed with the men drinking the bottled beer brought from home when the girls in the group decided ,” to hell with the beer! Let’s try the food! “ We booked a table in the garden room a lovely, tastefully modern extension with large wood burning stove. The men thought they’d give the real ale another go, different beer on and thank goodness it got the thumbs up! The food however was a disappointment. The scallops were big and juicy but not sure the vanilla purée complimented them. My friend had a vegetarian lasagne which was dry and over cooked, disappointing, another friend had the beef from the specials board, which was definitely not pink, over cooked. They did comment to the waitress but nothing further happened. So a bit hit and miss , needs to be more consistent.

We came here as a few friends before a local wedding. As wedding guests arrived the pub catered brilliantly to accommodate all the extra food orders. Sofia (not sure of spelling) was great sorting everything. The food was lovely. Haggis tower was a highlight

Just had a fantastic meal here, we had fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and tasted so good. Very friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Sat by the lovely wood burner which was lovely on cold evening. We will be back thank you. 😊

The service was very good. There was nothing else up to standard . I ordered "deep fried haddock, hand cut fries, peas tartar sauce lemon - gluten free option". I received fish floating in water, potatoes, cabbage, carrots and broccoli! I did get the lemon.

The dining area is in a warm room with a woodburner. Special main course for the day was pork curry in coconut sauce. This was served with saffron rice, poppadom and warm naan bread. It was delicious. Followed by Cream of Galloway gooseberry and elderflower ice cream. It was the perfect lunch. Our multi task waitress was efficient and helpful - behind the bar, serving the food, stoking the fire - nothing seemed too much for her.

We went to the Masonic Arms for a dinner after the New Year with a few friends. I have had a few meals there previously, and all were delicious! I think it is the best pub/restaurant in Gatehouse, and we are always guaranteed a wonderful tasty meal. It has a great atmosphere, is not too noisy, and has a lovely bright modern sunroom restaurant area with a lovely ambiance.

I visited with my partner while in the area for an evening meal and really enjoyed it. We ate in the sun room that appears to have been recently added. It’s a nice space that was quite contemporary. The food was really good, I had a haddock dish from the specials menu and it was really tasty and then a crumble for pudding and would recommend both. The portion sizes were good and the meal seemed pretty good value. I would happily eat here again if in the area.

The set up in here is nice with the fire etc, but the staff were a little 'off' and the wine was expensive compared to other establishments in the area.

Went in to have a family tea whilst staying in the area. So glad we went in here. The food was lovely. All four of us ate everything and thoroughly enjoyed all that was put before us. It was so nice, that we treated ourselves to another meal before we returned home. The kids loved both meals, and we'd highly recommend the pub to anyone. It's worth booking ahead, as it was busy both evenings that we ate there.

My partner and I booked a table for Steak Night as a treat for my birthday. From the moment we walked in we couldn’t complain. The service was great, staff were very efficient, polite and welcoming. The food was stunning and locally sourced too. We had three courses, none of which was rushed which allowed us to enjoy. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed which added to the whole experience. We found it to be extremely reasonable in price considering the quality and portion size. We left happy and full, so a big thank you to all at the Masonic for making my birthday so enjoyable.

Ate here twice whilst on holiday with family in Gatehouse of Fleet. Warm welcome by staff and good service. Menu offered a good range of dishes at reasonable prices. Range of drinks available from bar was very good and I particularly enjoyed the Jarl real ale. Clearly a popular place to eat and drink and this all added to a cosy atmosphere. Would certainly go again on my next visit to the area.

Visited when a friend and I were staying at the caravan park in Gatehouse of Fleet. Walked in without a reservation but staff ensured we got a table. Very busy with locals and visitors. Atmosphere was great everyone really friendly. I recommend the home made beef madras and the fish and chips, both were delicious. Prices very competitive and service spot on. Can't wait to visit again next summer.

I ate here with a group of friends when visiting Gatehouse of Fleet for a wedding. As the token vegan I was worried about eating options in a small town, but the Masonic Arms offered multiple choices for vegans and vegetarians which were clearly marked. The menu was also well described for coeliacs as well. I loved the vegan shepherd’s pie!

We visited with family for Sunday lunch. We were told Sunday lunch finished at 3pm. We arrived around 2.15pm to be told it had all gone. We were a party of 6. 2 of the group had the fish and chips which they were happy with. 3 of us had the vegetable curry which was average at best and very over priced at £12. Portion of the curry was small with a big standard tasteless curry sauce, shop bought cheap naan bread, poppadoms and rice. The final person had a veggie shepherds pie which was tasted the same as the curry but without the spice. Are places struggling to catch up with decent veggie good? Came away feeling ripped off. Service was fine but would not visit again.

Last year I gave this restaurant a great review and during our weeks stay we visited twice. So I was looking forward to a great meal again this year. How disappointing it was. The friendly staff have gone and the food is nothing like it had been. We visited because it has gluten free on the menu not because it was close. I decided to have the fish and chips. According to the menu there was a gf alternative. In most places that has been gf batter. I was told here that my fish would be pan fried. That would have been ok but the fish was as dry and tasteless as shoe leather and the chips too were dry as if leftovers had been reheated. My husband had Seabass which had a soggy skin. Unpleasant! We chose not to return for a second outing. The Masonic Armsis not what it was!

Visited twice during a recent trip to Solway Coast so the fact we returned is a recommendation of sorts. Our meals were ok but two dishes were rather bland. We discovered it was "curry night" on our first visit. The Thai Green curry was tasty with a bit of fire in it but the Lamb Tikka was disappointing. The meat hadn't been near a tandoori oven and the sauce was lacking flavour, more like a lamb stew than a curry.

Whilst on holiday in Galloway, Scotland we went for an evening meal at the Masonic Arms in Gatehouse of Fleet. To say it was good is an understatement it was brilliant. The choice was sublime so I plumped for a sirloin steak. I have eaten steak in various countries worldwide but nothing compared to the one here. The pub was so welcoming and spotlessly clean and the staff really friendly. So if you are in the area do not give it a miss, as I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Awful...avoid. You can tell the owner has lost interest. Carpets coming away on stairs, fraid carpets in bedroom, hole in bedroom wall, tiny tv, bedding dirty, everything dated and feels dirty. Only decent thing was breakfast...do not book unless desperate.

Breakfast seemed a fair price, but on arrival left a bit to be desired. Grilled tomatoes were warmed only and the sausage was small considering it was the only one on the plate.
