Mash and Barrel in Scarborough

This used to be the "Mash and Barrel" been changed to a "JW Wetherspoons". Verdict on entering. A lot brighter than my usual, prices higher, and only standard real ales. Oh! The Wetherspoons app doesn't work in here either. And just as a warning, you need to download the haven serve app for ordering at the table, which doesn't have everything on the table menu's 😤😤

False advertisement! It advertises everywhere at haven 2 meals for £18, at the bottom of the poster it states terms and conditions apply. Went to order 2meals to be told there will be an extra £5 charge. When I asked the staff why they couldn’t explain. They said it’s just a standard charge on top. Why not just advertise 2 meals for £23. I refuse to pay an extra £5 because the staff feel like. My family left and went Burger King instead. At least with Burger King you no what your paying for. If I could give 0starts I would.

Visited for first time, spoken with disrespect from a server / front of house, service time was spot on, food was delicious. Second time Visited, customer respect was totally different, food was spot on and service time was good again.

Booked table mid afternoon Sunday. We were seated (no booking info taken) left 10 mins the told "we forgot" to tell you there's no Sunday roasts. Then left for another 10/15 mins, no1 came back. No point booking, clearly don't adequately prep against bookings. Went elsewhere

Way overpriced drinks. Only one serving

Ate here Friday food and staff were excellent Came again on Sunday the staff were rude the portion sizes were different and the manager did seem interested at all Staff in the restaurant laughing and snickering Going to take my complaint higher

Dined here on tues lunchtime the young girl gave us a choice of seating then brought us menus and came back aft 5min took our food order and drinks order .had a short wait for our meals which were delicious. The next day we went back big mistake was told rudely t take a seat sat for 15 min nobody came near restaurant was quiet I eventually asked for menus got given menus waited ano 15 min nobody came near so gave up and left .

Would avoid at all cost had spaghetti bolognese was absolutely disgusting evan my dog wouldn't eat it and it's one of her favourites

One staff incapable of pulling more than one drink at a time, prices are shocking, same as most reviews staff just chatting to each other all day regardless of customers

The staff are ignorant. Pushy. Not a service with a smile either. Yes they were busy but it's on the haven site so it's expected. Hire more staff. Also when our food came every adults order 3 of them had something missing off the plates. We were not told why I'm assuming they ran out of them. Burger was missing salad and crispy onions. Sausage and mash was also missing onions and we orded a naan bread and that didn't come. I had to go up and ask for it to be passed by 3 different team members before I could get to the right person to deal with it. Even though they were all waiting staff. Each one of them rude.

Waited over 20 minutes to have order taken. In the end I had ro ask a member of staff to take my order. The family that came in at the same time as us, had their oder taken and was sat eating their food, time my order was taken. Once food arrives my son finds a dead fly in his pea. Just another off putting moment

Nice place to grab a quick bite..quick turn around so never waiting long..not too badly priced kids eat for a pound with every paying adult.

Absolutely terrible. Food old and reheated. They make you pay before you eat... I wonder why? I wouldn't even give them 1 star. Don't eat here

I wouldn't even give it a one star on food we just come back Friday and everyone who stayed in my carvan ate from here been really poorly sickness all the way though to early hours and still poorly on Friday coming home and other people have said the same thing about been really poorly from eating there

Just wanna say for fab staff you have at primrose valley mash and barrel. On Monday 3rd July 2023 we were leaving after a week holiday. Had a 2 hour wait for taxi home, so went to get breakfast. As had so much luggage 3 adults and 2 children we sat under cover on outside seating. Ordered and then rain came bad. Waiter came out with drinks which wind blew over, he knew we had ordered breakfast so got another waiter to come out and take all our luggage inside. The 2 lads were fabulous, so kind and took everything in and helped me in the lift as I'm disabled. We stayed till mini bus came but never got chance to see them again and thank them. So from us I say a massive thank you!!

Too dark of a room. When trying to get seated nearer windows you get moved as they are reserved for those who bring their dog. Seem to have a lot of staff yet still you are found waiting to get served. Some of the staff I found to be rude to others. Definitely has a feel of taking the mick out of a captive audience

Had Sunday lunch 2 4 £18 great value, good portions, only criticism could have been warmer. Would recommend

Monday 3rd July 2023 mean what can I say about the Catering staff specially with open view Kitchen whiles we was waiting for our meals to come out this at 11am we couldn't believe what we was watching from what we seen that one lad with his baseball cap wearing it backwards was picking at the food and eating it what looks like Grated cheese then to wiping his mouth with his hands and Constantly wiping his forehead of sweat with his hands and not washing them afterwards every time he was doing it also one guy had a Beard as long in which he should had been wearing a beard net in which I think it was his hair under my Panina sandwich in which I given my food back and taken the refund back also the bar manager Shannon Do not offer any kind of discount? Or apologised and not going back to the kitchen staff on this matter.full credit to the waiters who was more helpful then her.standard of hygiene was to a Gordon Ramsey standard and Specially when your paying good money for a meals. Overall think the kitchen staff need to go on a food and hygiene courses for me next year will have our meals at the lakeside on the site.

Cracking spot in rhe complex basic menu but all well done staff work very hard to make your meal/stay as pleasurable as possible call in most days of outreach holiday

Went into Mash and Barrel (22/06/2023) as i wanted a meal because i was staying at Primrose Valley. I seen the menu and the prices were an absolute rip off so I put down the menu and walked out then went to burger king instead. Expensive food and the menu was extremely small for my liking.

Can see why this place is empty, the food is nice but the staff are useless. Manager even worse, not one of them have a clue what’s going off. Manager just grunts and has no customer service skills. I can’t complain about the food though that was nice.

Serving Staff member Very ignorant I'm and Owner I'd expect some curtsey So I thought I would Have words with Manager he was was even worse and left Won't waste my money there Paying was half of a crusty cob Half of order missing. Drinks took forever to come to table after food which took as long 🙄

I wish I had an option to give zero stars but in order to leave a review you have to give at least 1. The food here is absolutely dreadful. I have been coming to this caravan park for 20 years and I can honestly say that the only thing that let's the place down is the food that is served up. Its not just the pub that serves dross food either the fish and chip is also horrendously bad. As a caravan owner I get a 15% discount but even with that I still feel robbed at the absolute dog food that is on offer. By all means come to reighton to make use of the facilities but if you want to eat out, go elsewhere. You can thank me later.

Would put a 1 if I could. Currently in the restaurant, we asked for 2 medium-rare steak and we received two pretty much cremated steaks, I sent mine back before the ‘chefs’ tried to argue it was medium rare with the waitress at which we stated it was clearly black and dried out. You could smell how many times the steak had been regrilled and the meat just looked dull.Both came with tinned mushrooms and what tasted like microwaved or reheated chips. We also received 2 greasy fish and chips with bones in. Not the sort to ask for discount or to be refunded but how the food looked, never mind tasted they should of known this isn’t upto standard and should’ve been offered some sort of discount. Honestly for a holiday home restaurant you need to up your game, weatherspoons offer better than this at a much better price. Poor efforts, I’ve never really written reviews unless we’ve had great service and food but this, for a family holiday is a disgrace and I would like others to be aware of this place as we’ve spent over £100 when we could’ve gone next door to Burger King and got a much better experience

Called in for breakfast, told to order via the app, had to download the app, create an account, and pay on my card through the app. Lot of messing around for a rubbery sausage sandwich and tea with UHT milk. Would have been better and cheaper to get a hot sandwich from the shop next door and a Costa coffee.

Seriously. I eat out everyday n most of the food here a dog wouldn't eat n I'm not even joking. I can't tell u how bad the food n service actually is

Brilliant service especially from one of the older members of staff who took time to talk to us about our holiday . Breakfast was delicious and lunch was incredible . I would suggest to ignore some of these reviews and try it as we saw people complain and then laugh coz they got another meal AND a refund which I thought was disgusting . Brilliant service !

Mash and Barrel DO NOT EAT HERE! Visited for Sunday dinner, if that’s what you can call it. Absolutely shocking. Vegetables were reheated and dry, mashed potato appeared to be smash, cauliflower cheese, was just a spoonful of slop mixed with the mashed potato. Gammon could have been revived, which later that day caused one of my friends to need hospital treatment for food poisoning, the after taste of the small amount we ate was shocking. Staff argued with us. The staff seemed under trained and lacked any enthusiasm and customer service. Youngest staff member was sent over to see if everything was ok, she walked past whilst saying it giving us no time to respond, shocking! I think if EHO gave them a more recent visit they’d be closed down, kitchen staff kept walking behind the bar over the weekend we were there and tbh after seeing the conditions of who was cooking I am surprised we ate there, uniform was dirty, kept going for cigarettes, nose rubbing, etc. knock the place down and start again. Such a shame as the only other options on site are fast food and are at a good standard. It would be much healthier for you to eat Burger King, slim chicken or papa johns all weekend than eat anything here. Oh and they don’t consider allergies. They ask about them, then don’t listen as we received food with the allergen on the plate. Death trap. I have had to do this review on primrose valley as there is no option to do one on mash and barrel !

Was worried when I read the reviews but 12 of us and food and service was amazing

Nice pub/restaurant on Havens Primrose Valley Holiday Park.

Assumed it would be basic pub food but thought it would be at least edible. Disappointed, had to then go and buy more food for family. No one came to ask if the food was ok, when they took the food & plates away was told they couldn’t do anything and we’d have to go to primrose valley reception.

Food was such a poor quality. The breakfast sausages were so salty I'm glad my 3 yr old decided not to eat his. My wife's bacon came out black and sooty, so something in the kitchen needed cleaning. The food fills a hole but that's about it. They also make you pay upfront which I find is strange I'm guessing if you pay up front you are less likely to complain.

Food came fast, the chicken burger was quite good, the steak was ok but a bit economical on the mushrooms. But overall a good experience... variety on the menu, there is a bar/pub side so great for drinks Polite staff

Don’t waste your money. Food is poor quality, staff are ignorant, and they don’t give full offers eg free starters unless asked despite being listed as included. My advice, drive the 5 minutes to the Royal Oak. Yes it’s a couple of pounds more but it’s worth it. Food there is amazing 😘x

Went in for our wedding anniversary meal with our family we got the food but flys was around the table all the time our family members went in earlier than us as they had a surprise, staff was constantly nagging them asking where we was and the table was booked for 2 and it wasn't even 2, the meal was rushed the dessert was on the table before everyone had finished which was unprofessional, the air conditioning was way too cold and blew our food cold people came away in tears as they felt we didn't have a good experience for our special day.

The price for sunday roast was redulous.it was wasnt value for miney..theash was lumpy the veg was raw the meat tasted of and the roaties were hard..it was discusting.

Ordered food with a tablet of six paid separately at first brought food out with shared features n mash etc secondly mash was lumpy turkey was awful in general it was just awful will not be going here ever again for food

One really rude and unfriendly staff member, rest didn’t seem to be bothered, food order was wrong despite us clearly explaining it, and then when we sent it back we could hear the chefs complaining about having to make it again. Garlic bread was for some reason brought out a good 10 minutes before the drinks and the rest of our food despite ordering it as a side with the mains? Would’ve been fine if the staff were a bit nicer, but all in all overpriced for what it was, wouldn’t recommend.

Overcooked rubbery burger that the head waitress advised was a stock issue a couple of people had already complained about but was still recommended and undercooked veg- all in all wouldn’t surprise me if it was shot in a microwave

Fantastic staff who will do anything for you!! Chef that went out of his way to make sure my daughter had the food the way she needed. We came for breakfast after swimming and stayed until lunch! So accomodating! All staff great although shy to start with as the season has only just started. Scottish barman a real delight! Suprised me how good this place is to say how quiet it was - great job all of you!

Typical campsite fayre. Not awful but just not great. If you want a quick meal out located onsite it's fine. We saw the poor reviews and came anyway. Place had no atmosphere and is like a big open plan dining room. As we entered they had a power cut so everything went off and then kicked back in. Lots of tables "reserved" but don't know why.. no one came and used them, we checked if we could reserve but nothing came up on the Haven App. We sat in the non reserved section and the waitress was friendly. Queue at the bar as the tills went offline. Typical quick service menu and average prices for a cornered market. Drinks order took a while due to till issues due to the power cut. Put food order in at same time and it was delivered quickly. Only criticism was chips were undercooked. Place is run by young staff probably earning minimum wage. Seemingly no one to coordinate them. Typical of Haven sites. Table staff were running around. Bar staff were pleasant but not in a rush and hampered by the till issues. OK. Won't be off back.

Food was cheap and cheerful with good portion sizes and fast service. Staff helpful. Venue could do with a deep clean and tidy/refurb as it is looking a bit tired.

Lovely food and quick service and staff go above and beyond with kids. Really included and involved my 2 year old would definitely recommend

food was alright! staff were rude/miserable though, put a bit of a damper on the night. lots on the menu but was told "there's stuff that's on there but we don't do". why advertise it then? we were a walk-in table, and while i appreciate restaurant's do prefer pre-booking, it wouldn't hurt to come over and ask how our meal is. pre-booking side were treated far better

Absolutely lovely food after a mix up over breakfast Steven went above and boyond to sort out our order that was mixed up by another person amazing bloke thank you again Steven keep smiling

David was absolutely lovely and very friendly, he was delightful! 10/10 customer service, Food was lovely (a little cold) but still great and was presented beautifully. I had the ‘Pulled Beef and Caramelised onion Baguette’. *EDIT* Day 2- the family came for tea and honestly i cannot praise the staff here enough! such a pleasant experience all the staff are absolutely lovely! we had the pleasure of having Simon as our waiter and he was very helpful, friendly and kind, also our drinks waiter was lovely too (didn’t catch his name unfortunately :( ) The burgers are absolutely gorgeous, as well as the onion rings 😍 I added cheese and bacon to my ‘Classic Burger’ and it was an absolute treat, definitely one of the best burgers i’ve ever ate! All food was nice and warm! Cannot wait to come back here. You should all be very very proud of yourself for providing such an excellent service!❤️ - Elle. x
