Absolutely disgusting, not fit for a dog. Avoid at all costs

We ate here twice on our stay. Once dinner and once breakfast. Both times the food was disgusting. The staff were friendly enough bit the quality of the food was very very poor.

Absolutely disgusting! The worse burger and chips I have ever had! The beef burger was dry, it was like eating rubber. The buns were soggy, Chips soggy and food cold. Awful place to eat, not worth the money at all! Would never eat here again.

Diabolical!! Took over an hour to get our food after having to order via the QR code, when I got mine and my sons it’s was terrible, cold fish fingers and chips, chicken burger was dry Af, and my cocktail was watered down. My daughters didn’t even come out with ours and she ended up asking for a refund. When asking for a refund it took them 20 mins to find out how and when returning to the table we were sat at all drink we did get and were still half full were taken away. Absolute joke. Don’t eat there. Don’t waste your money!! Go Burger King lol

Price isn’t great for the food Quality that is Received on both of my visits! One of the staff named Sarah was absolutely lovely and very helpful. Just a shame the restaurant wasn’t as high standard as she was. Thanks, Sarah!

This place has a 3 star food hygiene rating ranking it one of the worst food establishments in the country and oh boy, it's an absolute hell hole. Staff lack basic customer service skills and kindly informed me that it was my own fault that theyd sprinkled herbs all over my meal despite me previously informing them of this allergy and the kitchen staff clearly lack all signs of prowess and pride for their work because the food arriving on the table; abysmal. In fact it was so poor that I felt second hand embarrassment for the poor waiter putting the plates down at our table as my families mouths dropped to the floor in disbelief. The food quality is lower than items you'd expect to find in a PoundLand frozen meats section, portion sizes very small despite the over inflated prices that you come to expect at places like this. You'll have a better quality meal in your caravan oven, just don't waste your money. If you still choose to eat here, don't say I didn't warn you. I too was foolish enough to have read the frequent negative reviews this place receives before thinking 'ah I'm sure it's fine' - trust me, it's not fine.

Burger was still pink had send it back. Sent out wrong curry. Kids Mac & cheese was watery. Kids broccoli side portion wasn’t great was a tiny piece. Some staff are rude. Bar staff gave short change . Says 2 for £18 on meals but when go to order they tell you it’s certain meals only plus if you want the ultimate burger in the 2for£18 they give an additional charge of £5 so technically isn’t really 2for£18. Went with my family for a Sunday roast (in Caister) which is advertised as 2 for £18. When the food arrived it was presented on a plate only slightly bigger than a side plate and the food was absolutely diabolical !! I thought they may have mistakingly brought me a child’s portion, but was informed it was indeed an adults size plate !! 2 small potatoes, rock hard carrots & peas. A tiny scrap of beef and a cold flat Yorkshire pudding chucked on the top. When I asked the waitress what exactly is it that she had served us, we were told that’s how the meal comes. NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I EAT IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT !! Sort it out ….. stop advertising that you’re doing the customer a favour by giving them 2 meals for a good price of £18 and put some decent food on your PAYING customers plate. DISGUSTING

Dirty, slow service, cold food. Worth going for one of the fast food chains or going further afield.

Only one person serving at the bar every morning during breakfast hours. Portions not great. Overpriced. Staff quite abrupt. We only ate dinner here once then found somewhere off park every other night. Its a restaurant on a caravan park so it is what it is.

A lovely, spacious place to eat, plenty of outdoor. They had designated areas inside for our dogs to accompany us, with doggy treats free for our pooches. Food was good pub standards, with a delicious curry and amazing ribs. The panninis were perfect for lunch, especially the meatball one. We ate there every day. They also sold a lovely pear cider, which was on offer when we were there

Sign at the door says wait to be seated but nobody comes so we just sat and ordered at the bar, the queue at the bar was so long it took forever to order, the person taking orders said she hadn’t been trained and didn’t know what she was doing and when we finally ordered they got the wrong table number so took even longer. All the food arrived cold and inedible from arriving to getting food it took over an hour. Don’t waste your money, service is awful and food even worse

Service was fairly slow and food wasn’t the best to be honest. I had a hunters chicken and really wasn’t what I expected. Onion rings were overcooked and the oil they were fried in smelt old. Staff were friendly and approachable which was a positive point and everything was clean and tidy!

Had a couple of meals here, food is nice and reasonably priced, it's located on the Haven Caravan site

Nice to sit on the decking which was a plus with the hot weather , The food was terrible we ordered not busy but when it came out it was cold !!!! such a shame but others around us were moaning about the food also .

Very quick service and delicious breakfast! I love being able to order via the QR code on the table. It makes things so much easier especially with a hungry little one.

Well, well. Was told that it was advised to book a tablet as it get busy, so we did. Waited for a member of staff when we turned up as we booked (waste of time as it was empty). Staff just told us to sit anywhere we liked and order at the bar or on the app. Restaurant itself is big, but there were many dirty tablets. Ordered food and drink on the app. The glass that arrived had a chip in the rim, so had to take it back. Them the food arrived, must say from time of ordering to the rime it took was nice a fast. Had the hunters chicken, which I had to send back as the chicken was stone cold and just had grated cheese on top. When it came back it was so tough and dry tasted like it had been microwaved. Portion size is very small for the price. Don't think I will go again anytime soon.

Awful! Upon arrival the manager saw us but left us waiting 20 mins before seating us, food was like warm and got the order wrong. Some staff incredibly rude. At points no staff could be seen to speak too and no one really knew what they were doing and where the food was going too.

On a second try we order hot sandwiches and apparently this was also too much for the chefs to manage. This time we sent the food back and on a second attempt received a hot meal. Poor Laura was having to personally make sure our meals were acceptable and that is definitely not the role of front of house. I hope the managers of this restaurant review this skills and abilities of their chefs.

Dog friendly. Pleasant staff and good food

Hunter's Chicken is not worth the money. The chicken portions were very small, especially for the price. Definitely not eating there again.

food is on par with a bad little chef and we know what happened to them. Restaurant being hoovered while eating our meal on a Saturday night at 7PM. Loaded Nachos looked like a blindfolded toddler had a go at making. Apart from that and the bill, highly recommend!!

We came to Caister-on-Sea for 4 days and it was our wedding anniversary on 25th/4 they literally bent over backwards. We got a free drink each with our meal and a card and we ordered dessert and they gave us double and 2 spoons for no extra charge. The food was lovely. All the staff were amazing but laura in particular was brilliant, lovely lady. Thank you for making our anniversary so special

Went there with my family and little dog, they were accommodating and friendly to all of us including our little dog they gave him biscuits the food was fresh and fast and tasted amazing.

DREADFUL!!! We have just eaten the carvery here, with 2 adult meals and child and this has to be the worst food that I have eaten out!! As caverys go, meat was cheap, roast potatoes mushy, vegetables undercooked and hard, Yorkshire puddings cheap and gravy like water, this makes toby look like a 5 start restaurant. Left most of food and will definitely not be eating here again!!!!

2 adults and 2 children. Food was ordered through the app, very easy to do. When the food arrived, we were shocked, Black potato chips and a mini mini burger for my daughter, my sons chicken burger was very basic and bland. The hunters.chicken breast was lacking in a chicken breast.it had 2 thin lumps of chicken and look like it had been the result of being ill!! I have never seen olive green peas before either! Give the staff their due they refunded the meal and we didn't eat it.

Stayed in caravan 120 caister beach,checking in took forever no organisation whatsoever,we arrived at our caravan after spending 20 mins driving round trying to find it as the signage is poor. We then went to go to papa johns but the staff were hiding in the back a female then came to the front to serve no welcome or sorry it was a case of what do you want with that attitude we just looked at her and went! We then went to mash and barrel after waiting 30 mins for a drink ,we then ordered our food I wish we never bothered I think it was a microwave meal! Overpriced food,lack of staff by the looks of it too,won’t be returning all the money we had spent on staying here never again,not much activities available at this site also,the place is looking very tired.

First of all I would like to say that all staff who I interacted with were lovely and attentive. The 2 times we went on our weekend away it wasn't super busy but there were a few tables full. Service was pretty quick and it was easy to order however unfortunately the food wasn't great. My partner compared his meal to a microwave meal. The portion size of the roasts are very small as well. I literally had 2 carrots! Hopefully it will be looked into as I've seen a few reviews about poor food quality.

One word terrible!! Specially as it’s Mother’s Day ! Took about an hour for are food to arrive and when it arrived we was very disappointed just looking at it , the kids meals came out and was told the plates where very hot and they where burning hot and you could knocked someone out with the fish finger they where soo hard ! The large share roast was the worst roast I think I have ever had cold meat under cooked potatoes and cold veg ! Told staff all we got was sorry about that would you like an apple juice as a sorry ! I would avoid !

Booked Sunday lunch for mother's day,we were very disappointed..arrived on what i would call starter plates,I under stand it's all bought in as I work for a hospitality company on norfolk Coast..but the meat was minimal,carrots soggy,roast potatos were a small as new potatos and hard,parsnips were tasteless .probably one of the worse Sunday lunches. Pudding I couldn't order on the app as was not showing,the bar q was so long I didn't bother..Same as my coke was flat. Felt sorry for foh staff they were doing there best just under staffed..

Having read the review before this I think we escaped lightly ! Booked table - booking couldnt be located but waitress found a table that wasn’t needing cleaning or clearing and we attempted to order via the app. Couldn’t find out how to ‘king size’ the roast so went to bar to order. THEN we were advised it was at least an hour wait for all food. We left as we were leaving for home anyway and cooked at home. Had we ordered via the app we would have been blissfully unaware of the long wait. Maybe advise people as they arrive?? Mind you - it’s a great way to sell more drinks while people wait🤣. Sadly none of this surprised us as we’ve been using Mash and Barrell with varying degrees of success for 17 years.

We visited for Sunday lunch while staying the weekend. We were advised on entry that there was a 30 min wait for food which was gone as we would have drinks before hand so would fill the Time. We placed our order using the app as the bar was taking a lon time for service and with children needed to remain close to the table. After an hour and a half our food was delivered and this is where the disappointment started. We had 2 roasts that were described and anaemic and not as described, children's fish fingers and chips that my child could not eat as they were to hard to bite through and a children's pizza that had a plate to hot to have near them so they could not eat their meal with the rest of us. While eating family's behind and beside us were also having a similar experience as complaints could be heard across several tables so I believe this was across several tables this same evening. With limited placed to eat on site the standards were really disappointing and a £1 children's drink was not a suitable solution for a complaint. In future we will not be re visiting both the mash and barrel and this haven site which is a real shame for our visit.

Booked a table for mothers day. An hour wait for food. Ordered a roast, it was swimming in oil, potatoes were hard, cauliflower cheese was barely cooked and the stuffing was basically a rock. One flimsy slice of turkey. Ordered the fish fingers childrens meal for a 15 month old, her plate had obviously been kept under a hot plate as the peas were shrivelled and the fish fingers were rock hard... she choked on her first bite..but the plate was burning hot? Husbands burger bun was also rock hard, with soggy salad. The waitress that served us was lovely and apologetic but the food was a disgrace- especially as its the opening weekend of the season. Best bit was the cranberry sauce. Will not go back.

A pretty shoddy offering. Breakfast quality was awful. There are much cheaper and better quality cafes down the road. Very overpriced and poor quality lunch and evening meals. Unclean around the restaurant and you have to search for a clean table mid evening.

Roast dinners ordered , the roast potatoes and parsnips were chewy. Items missing from the order. We visited with our dog. The dog friendly section is cramped, uncomfortable and unwelcoming. We were going to have desserts but the main course was so disappointing we decided to avoid. Pricing would have been reasonable if the food had been any good.

Possibly the worst vegan wrap I've ever had, it was simply overcooked white rice that hadn't been seasoned with an overly sweet bbq sauce.

Although we had eaten in there before the food was ok but today we had the Sunday roast omg it was very disappointing the roast potatoes were rank they were hard, uncooked looking partner bit into his and it tasted off mine was just hard couldn't even get my knife in it the meat was ok but cold, you get veg which again ok to eat the best thing was the mash tells you something when the best thing on the plate was mash lol never again is all u can say

Really terrible service. My family's food was dreadful and it wasn't very busy at the time. The staff are very rude and any question was responded to abruptly. Very disappointing when it's your holiday destination.

First day on holiday we decided to start with breakfast..Pancakes were nice but too cold and we ordered 2 coffees which arrived pretty much cold! These were replaced.Second visit was evening meal again chips were cold but everything else was ok. Full English was lovely but again food was just warm. Our party decided on a roast on the Sunday we booked the table for just after 6! On arriving we were seated and we asked about the roast to be told they had ran out of meat so unavailable! We had to ask as nothing was mentioned.Again food ok nothing to brag about...Staff are far from happy barely smile and tables are left for quite a while before being cleaned...Overall some food is ok as long as your happy with just warm to cold food and unhappy staff

Arrived at 11.38 to discover Breakfast not served after 11.30. Checked with the pirate bar staff (Halloween theme dress up) if they had some breakfast left to serve to be told very bluntly. NO... we stop serving at 11.30. There is a traditional breakfast on the day menu. We'll we knew it finished 11.30 but some holiday parks if they have stuff left over will serve after 11.30 and I feel she was very rude and lacked customer service as we was made to feel daft in front of other customers. We ordered the traditional breakfast and I ordered extra tomatoes for 99p. When it arrived I had half a cooked tomato. Feel robbed. On the other hand, kids' pizza was massive for a kids' meal. Maybe the pirate was having a bad day but even so I cannot remember the last time someone in the service industry spoke to me like that.

Really tasty food and good service. Barbacoa Burger was nice and fish and chips were a good portion. We have been to multiple havens and this mash and barrel is the best one I’ve been to so far.

We ordered crispy mushrooms, then ultimate burger and fish and chips. Really expensive. Burger was a biscuit, totally burnt. 6 mushrooms on a large plate with added limp lettuce. Making £1 a mushroom. Fish was OK, chips so overcooked, brown and greasy. What a terrible meal. After we were given our 6 mushrooms, the waitress asked would we like our main put on!!! I cannot imagine how long it had been on considering how overcooked it was, it wasn't going to take long to eat them. Not going back.

Great place on the Haven site. Dogs are allowed inside as well. Staff are polite and prices are what you would expect.

I have mixed reviews about the mash & barrel as I have to haven here around 15 times in the past year and a half. Absolutely could not fault this restaurant until 2 weeks ago, their service was always impeccable and so friendly. The food was always delicious! Since about 2 weeks ago sometimes when we go, the wait time is a while, ranging from 30-60 minutes, however yesterday we got our breakfast within 15 minutes? The food is ok, nothing spectacular but it’s nice otherwise I wouldn’t keep going back. 2 members of staff have been rude in the whole time me and my family have been going there which is about a year and a half! And we go 2-3 times a day! I think overall the mash & barrel is doing okay considering the amount of people they have to serve a day, most of them always serve with a smile. The only thing that irritates me is the wait time, occasional rudeness and I always order the same breakfast and the presentation is ALWAYS different which annoys me and is also confusing. Other than that, I think most of these other reviews are exaggerating! My dad always gets the big breakfast and has NEVER complained and he is very fussy!! Food is always cooked, may not always be the hottest but it is cooked.

Whilst on holiday at Caister-On-Sea, Haven, we visited the Mash & Barel for breakfast then after the great service we had from Laura behind the bar, we decided to go back again later that day for a late dinner. Once again Laura was so very helpful, she liaised with my daughter and made her feel very special. She was attentive to our needs, very informative and knowledgeable about the products and the park itself, and most importantly treated us with the utmost respect and friendship. I wanted to say a huge thank you to her for making the last day of our holiday so great, just wish we had met her before so the whole holiday would’ve been even more impressive than it already was. Thank you

Although busy unfortunately the vegetables hadn't been don't properly with the other leavers of the cabbage that were black abd brown were mixed in. We couldn't cut the potato's, other veg was dry and the sauces were slung everywhere. The turkey was not nice either

7 people eating. 1 diabetic 1 with food allergy (mushrooms). Order meal at the bar and pay before receiving it. Meal 1: 1 hour wait for food (no one told us). 2 meals arrived cold. One was for a diabetic who had already waited an hour and had to eat. Meal 2: 30 mins for food. Tepid but edible. Meal 3: 30 mins for food. 2 meals arrived cold. Meal 4: my daughter's 20th birthday. 1 hour for food. 1 Meal arrived with raw tomato instead of cooked and Tepid. My Meal *special prep due to disclosed food allergy*: arrived cold, peas still raw, raw tomatoes instead of cooked. Every item on the plate (and the plate itself) was cold. Replacement Meal arrived *staff aware of mushroom allergy * covered in mushrooms. I'm not talking one stray musher that slipped through the net, I'm talking a full portion of a substance that will send me to hospital. Yes, it's an allergy, no I don't just dislike them I get seriously ill if I come in to contact with them. Ended up having burger King on a picnic bench in a full length evening dress because I couldn't risk eating there again.

Just terrible, do not visit this restaurant. All of the food we ordered was cold and undercooked and the portions were tiny. The air con blasting makes the restaurant freezing cold. We left and went over to Burger King as we were hungry and unsatisfied with our meal at the Mash and Barrel. Waste of time and money visiting this restaurant.

Went for breakfast, ordered using the app. Waited nearly 40 minutes, without the coffee we ordered. The food eventually arrived but still no coffee, and the bacon can only be described as a health and safety risk. We called the manager over and complained about the bacon, lack of butter for our toast and still no coffee. She seems to be in a bit of a fluster, told us the bacon is cooked to temp but not everyone likes it crispy and that’s why they do it like that. Yet we saw other plates where the bacon was properly cooked 🤔. She offered to get us crispy bacon but left our breakfast plates with us, which by now we’re cold. She came back with coffee, but only enough milk and sugar for one cup, then a small amount of properly cooked bacon arrived but we were assured they were doing more. The second small batch of bacon arrived as I was finishing my cold breakfast, and can only be described as a joke, half was severely overcooked and the other was half cooked. At this point we just wanted to get out of there, worst breakfast experience ever and will not be returning.

Got told we had to book the restaurant as they were full for dinner, but there was 30 (no exaggeration) empty tables 😂. Apparently they have space when someone doesn’t turn up but we have to wait and see if they do! so you can book every night and just not turn up! 🤷🏼‍♀️😂 so we had to sit outside at 7pm with 2 kids after travelling for ages and it wasn’t that warm either!! The food was tiny portions, my kids were still hungry after theirs. Ours was also not very nice but ate it cause we were starving, would we go back? Don’t think so 😂

A really awful meal. The majority of our food was cold, with the most incredibly small portions. Some of our family eat the food as we were hungry and needed to get away. Even though the restaurant wasn't overly busy ( we know why now ) many other families were also sending the food back. This, unfortunately, isn't the first time we've had poor food at this restaurant. Management need to seriously review what is happening as many of the other reviews are just as scathing.

I just want to say few years ago you was aloud to pick ur own carvery and now they bring it to you I wouldn’t ever recommend eating it as the positions are not what you expect form a carvery when you ask about it you get told that is the positions we give so you want more then you have to pay more just no words to describe it Burger King would be you better option at the pleasant time

Arrived at 6.45, seemed very understanding about needing a gluten free menu and said a server would be over to get our order. The server forgot we was there and ordered at 7.15. Starters Arrived at 8.00 by then my daughter was very hungry so had gone to the shop for a snack. Main meals arrived at 8.30. My daughters sliders were burgers, not chicken as requested but she ate it as she was so hungry. My gluten free hunters chicken meal was ok, chips were lukewarm, peas tasted like they came from a can but at least chicken was tasty. Now to see if the food was gluten free or whether I will be ill later. Overall, I wouldn't return due to poor service and over priced slightly rubbish food.

walked in and the staff rolled there eyes, wouldn’t you want your staff to look up beat and not miserable. staff member came over miserably and said ‘sit where ever😒’ 5 minutes later the same staff member took other customers to tables. We was waiting 30mins and no came over to take our order. So we left won’t be coming back again.😡

Very disappointing, The first visit we were told it would be a 30min wait. Which we agreed was fine. 40 mins later still no meals. 1 hour later still no meals.. People were coming in after us and ordering hot food and were being served before us! We were waiting for two children’s meals! And the restaurant was almost empty. Would hate to think how long you’d have to wait if it was busy. We asked for a refund and left. 2nd Visit today was absolutely foul! Ordered hunters chicken chips and peas. And a mixed grill! The chicken was so dry and hard. And the BBQ sauce was a hard crust on top. I pulled the chicken apart as it was so hard and cold. And the chicken absolutely stunk! You could smell the bacteria! It was putrid! The chips were dry and hard. The garden peas were shrivelled and crinkled FOUL DISGUSTING SLOPS! I spoke with the Manager and asked if she would eat the plate of food I was served! Her answer was NO! And couldn’t bring herself to even smell the chicken! The Mixed grill was swimming in oil! Mushrooms were oozing in oil, And food was cold The manager asked the chef if the plates of food we received was Upto standard His reply was “The mushrooms sit in water! And the food was warm! I mean WTF? Anyway please DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME IN THE MASH AND BARREL The Floor and tables are sticky! The toilets are foul! It needs a deep Clean! Fumigating as everything was sticky and grubby! Mash and Barrel I feel my comments are justified as i only speak the truth! Management get yourself sorted out! It’s a complete debacle! Shame as a few years ago it was a lovely place but sadly when you don’t have professionalism this is what happens to an establishment 🤬 We will not step inside the restaurant again.

Food quality bad Food portions terrible Will never eat in mash and barrel again Over priced ,waited 45 minutes even though had a pre booked table ,waitress did her best but didn’t even know what was supposed to be on certain dishes. Items missing from food e.g. gammon missing from mixed grill when it was bought separately after complaint it was an over cooked rasher of bacon not a 4 oz steak as description on menus. When complaints made to manager she tried to help by offering free deserts but the the options chosen were not available so we had ice cream on the house As stated before never again

We loved Coffee and all the drinks.

We dined here twice and expect slightly higher prices , being on a holiday camp. The rump steak I had was cooked perfectly and delicious and was served quickly with polite staff. We returned Sunday for a roast dinner which again was reasonable, although the roast potatoes were a little small and hard, but the portions were of a good size. The only slight disappointment were the lack of deserts as many choices had ran out. The Eton mess which was delicious I was going to choose again but was Unavailable like several other choices. Would I return? Yes especially for another steak! The desert shown was for sharing for my 2 grand children.

There is always a long wait at the bar.. Only one person doing bat orders and app orders.. Very poor

Me and my family came here one night for dinner I came here one day for breakfast and for my lunch best place ever and the food is quite delicious my family had gammon egg and chips and I had a burger with cheese and they catered to my dietary requirement the ham and cheese Panini was delicious with chips and the breakfast which I had with pancakes with Greek yoghurt honey and berries was nice it had strawberries and blueberries

Poor quality, and lack of food, We had a meal here on the Saturday the food was what you would expect in an on site holiday park standard pub grub The sunday roast however well dont waste your money 3 potatoes which i kid you not were no bigger than a £1 in diametre, Turkey was dry and looked over cooked it was that fry The best part was the vegetables

We ate here for our evening meal and the food and service was very good.

Went to order food at 8.10p.m and was told they stop serving at 8pm. Their opening times states they are open until 9pm. This was a July summer evening so you would at least been able to get food until 9pm as this is the only restaurant on the site. After reading some of the reviews about the restaurant it looks like we had a lucky escape!! Papa Johns saved the day
