Original pub full of character and charm massively extended through necessity. Our evening meals were wonderful and the staff excellent. However if you are staying the night check if the chirping heater outside the bedroms has been fixed.I wasn't able to sleep atall and a good nights sleep was much missed! I mentioned it the next morning and hope it gets sorted as wouldn't stay again if not.

Whilst staying at Caister on sea we visit here for coffees often ,this time we decided to have our evening meal here .We where served by a lovely friendly lady and the food was delicious and very filling ! The pub itself is a lovely cosy one and it helps it's dog friendly. Be definitely returning to try something else off the menu 😋

Lovely local pub with plenty of space and dog friendly. Service is order at bar yourself but that was easier for us! We had a great meal and service was quick. Staff all very friendly and good pub food. Also had a wide range of options that weren’t only pub classics!

This is a really lovely pub with a lot going for it - but we left slightly disappointed. It’s a nice setting and a cosy pub. The adults food was really good - we had fish and chips, and a pie which were both really good. However we ordered pizzas for the kids from the children’s menu - and on arrival they were basically Chicago Town frozen pizzas with a few chips on the side for £7.50. The kids were really disappointed and still hungry. Maybe other things on the children’s menu would have been better? The service at the bar was also quite slow, as the pub was quite busy and there was only one person serving. It was a Wednesday though - so maybe unexpectedly busy. Would give it another try and there was lots that was good but could have been better on a few counts.

Not advised of parking restrictions, 1 drink has turned into a £60 fine for 23 minutes parking. Staff dont advise you to register your car after paying at the bar, I should have been more aware if parking signs apparntly. Somewhere thats never used parking restrictions from my previous visit and being a local of 42 years to the area you just don't think you need to be scanning the carpark for restrictions.

Just dropped in for coffee after a walk. Great location and a lovely old pub, but the worst coffee I have been served in 20 years. I say served, you are given a token to use the machine. It was awful, made worse by the price of £3.30. Pretty shocking price, especially for something so dreadful. Handed in back to the staff as it was undrinkable. Staff didn't really care. Drove elsewhere for food and a decent drink. Giving it 2 rather than 1 star as it has good decor.

£18 for pie with ‘bubble and squeak’, the pie was clearly shop bought, the ‘bubble and squeak’ was mash with carrot and peas in. Very unfortunately they also gave our 4 year old food poisoning from what I can only assume was an undercooked hotdog. Ordered a full sized Camembert, it came with one small (clearly shop bought roll), requested more as one roll is clearly not enough for a whole Camembert, and were charged £10 for 4 additional rolls, £2.50 a roll!! Asked for a jug of water and there was mould from the pump in the water. Whole experience was diabolical and cost us almost £200.

For the past 7 years we have been popping in for a drink after a walk on the beach. There's a car park which had signs saying it was for customer use only - so when we went in October we didn't notice that it is now run by UKPC. There are no notices in the pub, we had two halves of Aspall and left. One week later we received a ticket for £60 and a photo of the car entering and leaving 24 minutes later. We had paid by cash so I had to write to them - there is NO way to speak to or email anyone. Halfway through my appeal I received a letter this morning saying they have made a final decision and that we have to pay. I don't want to do down the route of bailiffs knocking at the door - we all know how these parking tickets can escalate, so have just paid up. I can understand the pub having a company run the car park for them - but UKPC are incredibly difficult to deal with. I hope the pub finds a more respectable company to run the car park. In the meantime, it would be helpful if they had signs inside the pub and not just the notices on walls that people are used to seeing.

What an excellent local pub. Whether you’re local or a tourist this a great pub. Very traditional. Had three local hand pumps and a decent local IPA craft beer too. Solid pub food, great quality kids food and lovely bar maid. Lots of traditional features like open fire place, characterful decor, good toilets and even old style beer towels on the bar. Something you don’t see that often. Also a decent range of non alcoholic beer if that’s the kind of thing that floats your boat.

Visited early on a Saturday evening. The pub was busy but our order was taken at the bar quickly and our food arrived promptly. The portions were generous, and the Chicken Wings and Pototo Wedges we had as starters were delicious. The sauce on the Chicken Wings was particularly good, as was the chilli topping on the wedges. Our main cpurse of Ham, Egg and Chips was great. The ham slices were thick and good quality. Couldn't fault the meal or the service. Staff very friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to eat here again.

We came in for a drink and were very disappointed with the service. The person working behind the bar completely ignored us without even looking up to acknowledge that we were waiting for a significant amount of time. Other staff members came by when this was happening and did the same. When they eventually decided to serve us our drinks they served Sauvignon blanc at room temperature that they had stored on a shelf behind the bar, and unchilled tonic in gin with hardly any ice. We had planned to stay for the evening to eat but left after the first round of drinks.

Visited on 19th October for my daughters birthday, initially it was really good, sat outside and ordered food as indoors was very busy (can book tables for 10 or more only 5 of us) (perhaps book for 10 then 5 can’t come?) after we ordered a very nice French man came out and said there is space inside if we’d like to come in. Perfect so far, food came and again was very nice till I went to get another drink from the bar right next to us (no one here) only to be told this bar is for the private event 🤷🏼♂️ and I’m to use the other side which was very busy with one lady working. No thanks if my money wasn’t good enough at the empty bar then I won’t bother. Would I recommend or return? Unfortunately not based on being turned away in favour of the private hire customers that are obviously worth a lot more than my £50 round of wine and beers.

Have visited many times and eaten. Food has usually been very good. However on our latest trip the food was below average. We ordered and food was with us in a matter of minutes. Both the fish pies had been microwaved. Cheese toppings were ultra hot but pie warmish in the middle. Salad wasn't fresh. Beef pie was served only with a few chips. Between 4 of us we spent about £70 and it was all very underwhelming.

We stopped here for a meal a couple of weeks ago and parked in the pub car park. The grumpy woman serving wasn't very welcoming and didn't crack a smile but the food was quite nice. A week later I received a £60/£100 parking fine because it seems you need to register your car when you order. We were not told about this at the time and only found out after I rang the pub to ask about it. The very rude woman I spoke to said there were signs everywhere but there were three of us and none of us saw any of them. I've never encountered a system like this in a pub car park in my life. Why would you be looking for signs if you've not experienced this before? It would be so easy for the staff to just ask if you're parked in the car park when they take your order. How hard is that? Every time I visit John Lewis I'm asked if I'm parked in their car park. Easy. What is wrong with these people? We live locally and have visited this pub many times over the years but will certainly never return. I will also advise all my family and friends to not support them either. I see another review very similar to this on here. I can't believe they haven't got the message. I do have sympathy if non-customers are using their car park to visit the beach but they could fix this so easily if they actually cared about their genuine customers. They'll rightly lose more business unless they improve the way they treat people. I was told it was nothing to do with them! It's their car park!

I’ve given this 1 star for the fact that our food was hot! Other than that very disappointing as I’d travelled 50 miles as was my birthday for a meal, had great meals here previously but this time was simply awful. I have never seen such a dehydrated, tasteless lasagne and reheated chips were disgusting. My folks had a chicken masala and it had no taste, no table check, really gutted as loved this pub, if they are under new management they need to step up!

The pub is in a lovely location, friendly staff and good menu but PLEASE don’t eat the salad garnish that my husband and I ate which came with the squid, whitebait and chicken wings - the food was fine but we were both very ill after eating the slimy lettuce which a pharmacist told us would probably have caused our sickness. Such a shame as otherwise it’s a nice dog friendly pub. To the landlords, we were on table 21, outside at around 2pm on Saturday 7th September.

Visited this pub a few years ago, but sadly it has gone very downhill since our last visit. I ordered the chicken madras curry, which was like a chicken stew of cheap stringy chicken and thigh and hardly any madras taste at all. The chips were hard and looked like they had been through the frier 5 times, and I found a hair in my rice, so the whole £16.95 meal was inedible. If I could have found a member of staff I would of complained, but they are so busy and not once did they come to our table after bringing our food to see if we were OK. My son and his friend had the kids pizza, which was definitely a Chicago town one with burnt hard chips. One of our party had lasagne and was given a bowl to get a salad at the salad bar. She walked up and there was nothing there, except a few dried up lettuce leaves. There is only one bar, few staff and everyone has to order drinks and food at the same bar. Also I know it’s a dog friendly pub, but why do owners allow their dogs to have full on barking episodes with other dogs while we are trying to eat. If your dog cannot behave in a restaurant, don’t bring it out. Safe to say we won’t be returning, such a shame as years ago used to be a great place to eat and drink.

The venue was quite busy with many dogs outside, not much space to navigate between tables and and a nice atmosphere at sunset. The food and drinks were ok, a bit pricey and slow to arrive. If you drive beware the parking registration which is easy to miss. I didn't go to the till to pay our bill, a friend did so didn't register my vehicle and received a UKPC parking fine in the post which is infuriating having been a paying customer. I'm starting to the appeal process but have no faith that it will be successful. The memory of the experience has been replaced with this headache and what feels like a scam.

Staying in Winterton so visited the pub multiple times. Lovely old pub, beautiful front bar, always busy, not so much the back bar which is soulless. Extremely dog friendly, excellent bar staff, equally friendly. The food is at best average but inexpensive, good fish and chips but the rest of the menu again average. Poor selection of ales, all local, but if you like Norfolk Wherry then fill your boots. Nice outdoor seating area, good for dogs and people watching. Having said all of the above the pub is local and popular.

Lovely looking pub in a stunning location, however food is over priced for what can only be prepared/prefrozen cheep food but put at expensive prices. Each meal we have had has been flavourless and underwhelming. Very disappointed. We don't mind paying good money for good food and drink however this is not it. Oh and if you're going to bump prices up on your menu board at least rub the old price out first and do it properly instead of turning a 5 into a 6. It's a shame as this place could really make something of itself with decent quality food and drink.

We dined here as a table of 3. The soup of pea and ham was superb however with no price on the board we had to pay additional of £2.90 over the £6.50 listed menu price. Only 1 pie special at 12pm shows your kitchen cannot cope with demand. Service is average at best, no one bothered to tell us there was a salad bar for example so I sat with an empty bowl for ages until I had to ask at the bar. Your Staff need training. Fish pie was dry and the bubble and squeak topping was missing. A jug of white sauce could have resolved. Your getting frequent complaints for the same customer feedback.

Been visiting for years. Food and drink is always to a good standard, food has improved a lot recently (it used to taste somewhat frozen and reheated on some occasions, it no longer does). Handy location and a lovely place to pop in before or after a visit to the beach (for either a drink or a meal). Meals are hearty pub food, they won’t be winning any Michelin stars but it’s what you’d expect from a local pub. Staff are always nice and friendly, drinks are reasonably priced, food is possibly on the *slightly* pricier side but as they have a monopoly on food within the village this is expected and not an issue. Spacious car park and plenty of on road parking nearby. Five to ten minute walk from the beach, which is well worth a visit to try and spot some seals and to have some fun with the sand (if you have little ones). Pub and beach are both dog friendly (all areas within the pub) and they keep doggy treats for visitors along with water bowls around the premises. It’s a must visit for a trip to Winterton if for a rest break if nothing else. There is accommodation available but I can’t comment on this as I’ve never used it.

We visited yesterday with family and dogs after a lovely walk on the beach and seeing lots of seals. This is the second time we have eaten at the pub. The menu has lots to chose from and the meals are large and are served piping hot. I had the chicken burger which was served with fries and a visit to the salad bar. It was lovely. My husband had pie which again was a large meal and my family had fishfinger sandwiches with fries. We all really enjoyed our food. The pub is a mix of new and old. The front of the pub is the original old cottage and at the rear there is a large, bright dining area. All are beautifully decorated with interesting art etc. Parking at the pub is good at this time of year. I expect the pub gets very busy during holiday periods.

We visited Fisherman’s Return for food only so unfortunately I can’t comment on their rooms. The restaurant has a lot of parking, is decorated beautifully and very comfortable. The menu was large and catered for everyone including gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and children. Some really lovely options to choose from! I had a honey roasted ham ciabatta with a side of chips. Presented nicely and came out of the kitchen quickly. The chips were hot and tasty too. Perfect for lunch. The rest of the group had dessert which looked great too! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is only because of self service. You have to order everything at a bar. I think it would be really nice to have a sever checking to see how we were getting on with our food and if we needed any more drinks. Other than that I would definitely recommend this place!

Stayed in Winterton on Sea and ate here a few times as very little choice in the evening off season. Food was decent enough but think priced accordingly due to the lack of choice midweek in the village....Would eat here again as the main bar has a great ambience about it and staff were pleasant. Good quality beer which I enjoyed immensely. Dog friendly.

We have been visiting here for years and have always enjoyed it. The service, location and food has always brought us back. Our most recent visit however, was not as expected... The menu prices are considerably higher but the portions are much smaller, so much so that my husband looked at his plate with a worried expression, concerned he was going to be hungry after! We took some cake home from the cake counter, we were spoilt for choice but, the cake was stale which was such a shame. We spent over £100 for five people, no starters, 3 cakes and left disappointed. We hope this changes as we have always enjoyed visiting. The owner is very welcoming and friendly.

Unacceptable. Had a booking for between Christmas and New Year (booked for months) and cancelled on us with 5 days notice. Good luck to us finding somewhere else last minute this time of year!!

I was staying in the area and had lunch here four times. The experience in terms of service and food was variable. With regards to service, there is an older waitress who needs more training and does not know the menu very well. She seemed very unsure of herself and had trouble recording our order, having to repeat ourselves several times. Answers to our reasonably basic questions about the menu were "I think so..." and that did not fill us with much confidence. The younger waitresses were very good, attentive and friendly - so something must be going well in terms of staff training. We were also given warm tap water with no ice on a hot, summer day. This was partly due to the high price of drinks - £3.10 for canned drinks and £5.75+ for a milkshake. The surf and turf burger was really good - I would recommend this, as the crayfish, pawns and burger were lovely with the sauce. This was consistently good. The gammon, egg, chips and peas was also yummy and good value. The meat was well-cooked, as were the chips. The haddock was really nice on one occasion, with light and crispy batter. But on another occasion the batter was hard and overcooked, accompanied by cold chips and peas.

15 of us, ranging from OAPs to young children with allergies, descended on the cafe together. The staff coped very well with this influx. The food was simple but good quality, tasty and cooked properly. Service was friendly and prices very reasonable.
