Masala in Northumberland

This place is my number 1. It was an absolute pleasure to host a 3 year remembrance meal for my late partner. 13 of us attended and the young lad who was either an apprentice or temp job was brilliant. Aaron I believe he was called. I will definitely be back soon and I think this place should be filled daily. Keep this ashington treasure open forever....

Excellent, haven't been for a few years but we loved it. We went for the £14.95 five course special. Every course was delicious, opted for the mixed dupiaza for a change, brilliant. Definitely going back soon, in the mean time I will definitely be getting our next carry out from Masala ( they don't do delivery but if you can collect from the shop it's well worth the journey). I don't need to add photos, just check out the website, what you see is exactly what you get.

The food was fresh authentic and delicious! The customer service was abit shy at first, but overall we would definitely dine there again if we were in the area. A+J from the Westmidlands

Had the fixed price menu. Great value. Onion bhajis fantastic. Followed by lamb dupiaza. Then shared a mushroom rice and an garlic naan.

What a lovely little place this is. The food is great with so much flavour the staff couldn’t be more nicer and friendly. We come here each time we’re child free and will carry on to do so

Been coming here every week for years and have put up with the often miserable but occasional nice guy owner but today decided enough is enough and not to come again. Not the food as it is lovely but unfortunately the owner ruins this restaurant with his unfriendly approach to customers. We always come in with a dmile and hello but are often greeted by a Luke warm welcome. In years fine by we have eaten in on boxing day but this year we came for our annual meal and was told rudely that there's no special on, first year no special so we decided to go to Ameera. Shame because the Massals has nice seating and food but he has killed that restaurant. Anyway went to Ameera, excellent service cheaper and equally good food and special on. Thus is or Jew restaurant along with Taj take away. RIP Masala.

Absolute disgrace, disgusting place do not go!!! Rude and miserable owner. Rice was red-over done the saffron, mums meal disgusting, mine was edible but she didn’t touch hers, then To be shouted at and confronted by the manager just for saying one of the curries was awful, calling us liars, I was happy to pay for everything other than my mums curry, didn’t offer a replacement and refused to deduct from bill, awful place, such a shame. Won’t be back

Ambience in the restaurant is pleasant and the service is wonderful the staff are polite and helpful the food was excellent and reasonably priced would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a delightful night out

A decent place to Eat, I love Indian food, you will find it hard to get better in Ashington. good selection of alcoholic drinks always helps.

Been here a few times now and I have got to say the food is wonderful and lot's of it,the menu has so much to choose from. The staff are friendly and so welcoming, to be honest this place is a bit of a hidden gem.

This is most definitely my go to place for Indian food. The special they do both for sit in or take out is a great price and is enough for 2 people. Food is always fresh and the staff are always happy to help out

Food was lovely, portion size was generous and prices not out of this world but so far as the overall experience goes, I'd give it a very low score indeed and to be fair I could have spent my £50 elsewhere and had a much more enjoyable experience for my girlfriend and me. Cleanlieness was excellent, food was excellent but that was about as far as it went .. The restaurant was tired and worn out - old 1990s ceiling tiles, uncomfortable seating and cheesy 1980's colour changing wall lights. Nice for a retro Indian restaurant of the 80's / 90's but not cutting the mustard in 2019 The 'potential' atmosphere was marred by the constant arrival of take-away customers Service was rubbish, but give her fair credit, the young Irish waitress did her very best and was lovely, however the proprietor made her place too much emphasis on the take-away service and not enough on the 6 people who were dining in the restaurant at 8pm on a Saturday. When our food eventually arrived (and there was no hurry) it came in stages - the starter was fine but then the main course - this was a comedy act .... Fawlty Towers eat your heart out !! The curry arrived first, then 5 minutes later the rice and eventually the nann and chapatis, by which time the main course was rather cool, in fact it was colder than a penguins fiddly bits despite the fact that an aluminium hotplate was provided on our table - which was actually colder than the plates provided on which to serve our food ! We ordered coffee to finish our meal and frankly the coffee was lukewarm and lacked that distinct 'coffee' flavour - yes it was very weak, so weak in fact I had to help it get out of the pot. To be honest if this is the best that the restaurant can perform on busy Saturday night (6 people dining) I shudder to think how it would manage when filled to capacity - say 20 people ? I'd be very reluctant to go back to this establishment soley due to the lack of service and the lack lustre atmosphere of the restaurant itself. I live not too far from this place and I'm well aware that it has been here for many years bud sadly st seems to be resting on its laurels and not moving with the times.

Have been a few times, food is always really good. Sevice is normally good, was in last night sevice wasnt as good as normal, paid for the special meal, didn't even get offered our coffee/ice cream, after eight mints put on the table and he walked away. Must have had a bad night! I have recommended this restaurant to several people so hope they don't get the same treatment.

Fantastic restuarant great staff and lovely food will definitely visit again for takeaways and for a sit down meal too.

A "go to " top quality restaurant. Mr Kareem,the owner, is a perfect gentleman knowing likes and dislikes of his regular diners,treating them as friends rather than "clients ". If you haven't dined at the Masala then do "go to " see, taste and be pampered by Mr Kareem.

Dined for the first time on Saturday & was impressed at the choice available, the food was lovely, the curry’s were really hot (temp) there was plenty of it & slightly cheaper than our normal haunts at £5.95 & £6.95, couldn’t fault the service & plenty of table checks, only downside was my mushroom rice was more luke warm than hot but not a bad first experience. They do offer a very competitive special on a Sunday & Thursday, may try that if in the area again soon. 👍

I was surprised how few people were in during our meal. Our curry was excellent, full of flavour, and plenty of it. The price was good, about average. Friendly service.

Had a great night with great food last night. Four of us went for a meal at the Masala and were not disappointed, shame we were the only ones in the restaurant, we all had a different Indian meal and food, service and a few pints of Cobra were a treat.

Always have lovely meal here. Lamb tikka methi recommended.

THE GOOD: Rice and nan breads were very nice probably best I've had from an Indian restaurant and the sauces were decent quality authentic tasting .

My favourite Indians in the area. Always great food and exceptional service. Been going here since 1998 and never had a bad experience. Management always remembers us and is always friendly and asks about the family. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

La última vez que visité este lugar debe haber sido hace 5 años. No tengo ninguna queja, entonces aunque la decoración era un poco anticuada. Revisitada de un domingo por la tarde para el campo Domingo 6 especial para 10 libras. 90 el restaurante ha sido renovado. La comida era excelente, y aunque mi curry de Sri Lanka era más picante de lo que habíamos experimentado anteriormente en otros lugares que realmente me encantó. Los sabores eran deliciosos. El arroz era encantadora y nan amplia luz y sabrosa además pedimos extra cebolla bhajis que eran excelentes. La factura total por 2 menús, 3 pintas de cobra y 3 copas de vino fueron más de 38 libras. Excelente relación calidad-precio sin duda volveré, altamente recomendado.

Must admit we have been visiting this restaurant for years. Cannot understand why it is never full. The food is always delicious. Service is good and they make a great coffee.

Comida encantadora y el precio es el normal. . El servicio es bueno. . Tienen comida para llevar y su. normalmente alrededor de 35 minutos para recogerlo, lo cual es genial. . . . .

Pedimos una colección. Al llegar a casa abrí el chutney de mango y tenía completamente separados. Parecía haber sido sábado alrededor de más de una semana. Me ha parecido conmovedor en bits de poppadom. Obviamente, esto había sido decantada fuera mesa de alguien después de comer. Tomó toda la orden atrás y exigimos un reembolso. No aconsejaría a nadie con este lugar.

Although I have no complaints with the food in general they seem to make up the prices as they go along so make sure you're getting what you pay for!

Not to good the service was fine, but the food all tasted much the same, garlic nan had no taste when we told the manager he just shrugged his shoulders and walked away, it put a bit of a dampner on the night, won't rush back.

We went early on a Saturday night (around 730) and were the only ones in. The food was great and pretty reasonably priced. Service was attentive and friendly. Look forward to going back.

Lovely and charming Indian restaurant. Food is delicious and great atmosphere. Dine in or takeaway either is worthwhile. If you have a dairy allergy just let them know. Very helpful.

Had the meat thali. It was eaten and enjoyed but it didn't 'win me over' to ensure that it would be the 'go to' place for an Indian takeaway. Would say average/good.

We had a good night out at the Masala recently with a range of different curries and starters between four of us, no-one was disappointed with any of their food. I'd read on this site that service was slow but we didn't experience any problems with the service. We were well attended to by a young girl on only her second day at work and she did brilliantly. I have heard that splitting tips isn't as fair as it could be so maybe a little more thought for my next visit.

Myself and some friends recently went here for a meal and had a fantastic time. The staff are really helpful and the service top class. Very good food choices and set menus and excellent dining. Well worth a look.you wont be disappointed.

We booked a table here as we had heard about it from a friend. The service was slow but the young waiter was very polite and helpful and always smiling. The food was delicious and I would recommend it

Just had a takeaway from here and not for the first time I've been disappointed. There was nobody in the restaurant Waited 30 minutes for it to be cooked, only live 5 minutes away and the starter and sides were cold and the main course was luke warm. While I was waiting I had a bottle of budweiser which after I drank it realised it was 7 month past its best before date.

The owner Mr Karim is a great cook. His curries are very tasty and the price is average. He has seating for about 40 guests.I have never had a bad meal there.

Decided to try Masala after being disappointed with other takeaways. I won't go anywhere else from now. We had chicken pathia, lamb bhuna, mushroom rice, garlic nan and chilli balti nan. It was superb. At other places you open the main meal cartons to find a layer of ghee on the top, but not here. The nans weren't greasy either. Beautiful tasting food. Chicken Pathia was incredible. Try it, you'll love it.

I'm glad we chose to eat at Masala; it's always difficult to find a good Indian restaurant when you're on holiday but we weren't disappointed here. A great menu with some dishes I hadn't seen before. The staff very friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly and was very tasty. I would definitely eat here again.If you arrive early enough, there are a couple of parking spaces right outside the restaurant.

We have been going to Masala for years,but we moved out of the area and we haven't been for a few years for a sit down meal. The owner remembered us immediately and gave us a very warm welcome! The food is very good and freshly cooked. It is a bit out of the way for us but in comparison to our local Indian restaurants it is worth the extra journey time. They do any dish to your taste. The staff are very pleasant and good at their job. Well done for continuing to give great food and good service!

this is an excellent place for both takeaway or indeed sit in food. the staff are very attentive and we feel most welcome every time we go there. clearly the best indian restaurant in the town with a well deserved award for the best restaurant as recently voted for by the borough. well done. we will be back again and again.

Can't comment on restaurant but takeaway awful.I was told to pick up my order at 7-45pm on a Saturday evening but didn't leave restaurant until nearly 8-15pm.The staff seemed more concerned with the sit down customers than those collecting.When I got home the food was cold,watery and tasteless and most of it ended up in the bin.I won't be back.

Myself and my partner (who was born in india) have tried a lot of indian restaurants and masala are one of the best, fantastic flavours and the staff are friendly and polite, a great restaurant!

The food here is excellent - good value and the owner is usually around with his family - very polite and makes everyone feel special. The onion bajias are gorgeous as is the accompanying sauce -best ever - I travel around and there is nothing to beat those. Value for money, lovely décor - absolutely perfect and have never been disappointed. They were the first Indian restaurant in Ashington for a number of years.

Very friendly staff and very good food. They were very welcoming to the children and tolerated a lot of questions from my son with good humour.

My wife and I visited this restaurant for an evening meal on the 10th June. We were greeted by a friendly polite young man and shown to a good table. The decor is tasteful and seating comfortable.My wife had the chicken tika, I had the prawn madras, we both had their 'speciality' rice. Both dishes were excellent in our opinion.We are unable to recognise or identify with the previous negative review. It's possible the author is referring to another establishment further down the same road. We were recommended to avoid that restaurant.

When I arrived at the masala tandoori, I was greeted by a waiter at the door, taken to my table and was tret nicely. It appeared to be a nice a place... Then the food arrived. The chicken was undercooked, the sauce tasted 'off' and the rice and nann bread were colder then antartica. I will never return to this restraunt and I'm disgusted at what they call food.

This restaurant is the original ashington Indians and the best! Always tasty hot food at very reasonable prices! Must try the chicken chat on purée best I have ever had and we eat a lot of indian food!

Really like the Masala. Service is top notch, never rushed away but the staff still pay attention to you. Food is excellent, very tasty, but I have found compared with other Indian restaraunts its not quite as hot as others ie my Vindaloo at times is only the strength of other places Madras.
