An absolute treat! You won't be disappointed as they make the finest dishes in Newcastle. Been to many Indian restaurants in the North East and this one is the best.

I ordered a lamb keema and peas done spicy and well done nan to take out absolutely perfect meal and would recommend this place for a meal

Delicious Meal at the Ponteland. Been recommended to me countless timed over the years but only recently had the chance to go whilst in Newcastle for the weekend. Very glad I did. All food cooked beautifully in open kitchen with very attentive (but not intrusive service). It's great to see that in addition to the classics, they have a range of the Chef's own dishes that you can't just get anywhere. Recommend to anybody in the region who enjoys a great curry.

Thought we’d try this restaurant while on holiday in Northumbria. Pleasant atmosphere on arrival, open kitchen, so clearly have nothing to hide! The meal was fantastic, the naan was delicious and all of us really enjoyed the meal. The only slight criticism is that the poppadoms seemed a little stale, but the overall meal compensated for that. Would most definitely revisit for another meal.

Myself and 4 friends had a fantastic meal in this restaurant last night. The food was amazing, served by very friendly staff. The bill was also a shock on how cheap the evening was. I will definitely be back.

I have been coming to Ponteland Tandoori since it opened in 1988 and have never been disappointed. It's a proper family affair and you always receive a warm welcome. The food is consistently high quality and would highly recommend it.

Absolutely banging veg thali. Peshwari naan was also of high quality. Nice, a solid 85% from me.

Disappointed from start to finish, booked a table only to be stuck in the walkway asked politely to be moved and faced with a disgusted look by the floor manager popadoms, starter,naan all as you would expect rice very sticky but this may be there style one main reasonable but the other left pretty much untouched no flavour what so ever, won’t be going back in a hurry far better restaurants out there to choose from

We indulged ourselves with a tandoori mixed grill. Chicken tikka masala, mushroom pilau, garlic naan, poppadoms with lime pickle all very nice and flavoursome. I collected from the restaurant and enjoyed the ambience, my order was ready on time and the staff were friendly. Recommended

First off the food was lovely, big portions & very tasty. Didn’t even acknowledge we were there for a birthday celebration No heating, they had calor gas heaters which did not help at all & even took it off us to put somewhere else. Customer service, the staff weren’t attentive everything seemed too much trouble. Drinks didn’t give clean glasses after each round of drinks.

I went at a busy time of year so maybe it could rate higher on a different occasion. They placed us in a little corner at the back of the restaurant. Felt like we were a little forgotten about. I asked for a little while after the starter before having the main course. Unfortunately this didn’t happen and it was served very soon after. Food was tasty and good size portions. The menu does show much vegetarian options, but once I asked they said they could do most dishes. Worth going

Served with inedible lamb clearly cooked in the past & reheated. As usual they blamed their butcher! Staff were preoccupied with the football on TV. Little wonder the place was empty. Never again.🤢

Left a review last week warning honest folk of the terrible service, snobbery and attitude of the staff along with the awful food and lavish prices. Came back to see if they had responded only to find that the entire last 3months reviews have been deleted! That rite there is the defining way in which this business is run. The i.t. department is obviously more of a focus than the kitchen! Avoid at all costs!

When in the North East this is my go to Indian restaurant. The quality of the food is outstanding, from the quality of the meat to the best prawns, my favourite garlic and amazing nanns. This is how Indian food should be! Nothing comes close.

First time there. Thought I'd get a takeaway. Only to get home and they got my order wrong. Missing item. Although food is good.

I love a good lamb chop, and Ponteland Tandoori served up five, in a nice rich sauce that could be mopped up with my naan.

I don't get up to Pont that much, yet alone eat a sit-in curry! I've nailed the grub here a few times now: never after a billion Stella, more often than not due to the outright need to get the grub in after a few beers. It's never let me down overall. Of course you get heavily stung wallet wise for beers. Standard. Prices apart from that are fine and the quality is absolutely so.

We've been eating here for nearly thirty years and have always received top quality food and service. The Naan Breads and Stuffed Parathas are as good as any I've eaten anywhere in the World.

Had originally planned to have a pub meal, but decided to give this restaurant a look. Only had pappadoms & a pickle tray to start, but the pickles were first class, in particular the line pickle. This was tasty without being stupidly hot. I had a chicken bhuna main course. The chicken was beautifully tender & the sauce was really tasty. In conclusion, excellent food & friendly service. Thoroughly recommended.

Tandoori King prawns are delicious

Consistently brilliant. I've tried so many Indian restaurants including so called top-end ones but this place is miles better, It's a 16 mile round trip for me but its worth it imo. The garlic rice is exceptionally good especially with a lamb madras or a chicken tikka Malayan, so far nothing comes close to this place.

Fantastic online ordering and food is always on time to pick up, this is our local tandoori 15 mile from home food is always spot on very tasty

Great food, service and atmosphere

Curry was OK, but below average. Popadoms consisted of one half of a stale and bendy popadom, chips were cold and stale. Guy that served me was miserable and off hand. We were similarly disappointed last time, will go elsewhere from now on.

Came here with 2 friends of mine, because all other restaurants in the neighbourhood were full. Very thankful for this twist of fate, because they made our evening. Servers were super friendly and helpful. Also gave us advise on how to go to Newcastle to go out, which was super smart. Excellent!

After reading the reviews we were expecting average food we ordered the mix starter which yes wasn't too good, a bit dry needed salad and a sauce which we did think we would get with it. We also had a chicken bhuna and a spicy lamb dish loaded with garlic both of these were very good lots of tender meat and the lamb melted in your mouth and a chicken chat starter, again very good. All curries had a different flavour and colour which you expect but sometimes dont get . The nann breads were good and extra garlic as requested. Yes we would use again, didn't realise you can eat inside as we found it on trip advisor. A good curry house

Ordered a takeaway and it was extremely disappointing. The curry should be the star of the meal, but having ordered what is normally a fairy hot curry….this was extremely tepid at best. In fact, I’ve had hotter pasta sauces it was so poor. The side dishes are good, no complaints at all….but the chef really needs a lesson on how to cook spices and heat! Pont is crying out for a good quality curry house!

Family visit of 5 people with a wide variation of dishes 1 of which is vegan, food was pretty bland to be honest as we are regular Indian cuisine eaters and then there’s the service drinks came in dribs and drabs and had to ask for the last 2 main meals were the same with 2 rices and nan bread coming 10 mins after the 1st meal and we had to ask for them, so would we visit again...... NOT A CHANCE

I think by Newcastle standards this is a good restaurant looking at all the other reviews but this place was very very bland. It's like the further up north you go in the UK people's tolerance of spice gets dulled out and restaurants cook with less spice and Indian flare. I spoke to the waiter in Bengali and he responded in Bengali but he was so embarrassed to speak Bengali like he was ashamed of his culture and background. I hope next time he will embrace who he is. There's no hiding you are not white English just embrace the diversity and don't be ashamed of your culture. It made me sad that he was so awkward about speaking bengali but I continued to speak bengali just to make things more awkward. Food was terrible meat was so rough and chewy, I'm questioning if it was halal or not as I can taste the difference and tell by texture when an animal suffers stress and strain before execution the meat I had with my lamb curry was very chewy and rubbery and tough. Either it was old meat or non halal meat. Food presentation and service was very fast and looked good. Other than that the food was very mediocre.

I am yet to find a better Indian restuarant. Luckily I live locally so my girlfriend and I come regularly and try different dishes everytime and without fail all of them have been exceptional. The service is very fast and the staff couldn't be nicer. Takeaway is always good but there is nothing better than sitting in and having the food fresh. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

Ponteland Tandoori The food as usual was great. But they mustn't gave paid the gas bill as it was freezing cold. I kept my coat on all night. Which is a shame as I really like the place

I can't comment on the food, I gave up waiting after half an hour. Was given a collection time of 8.22 and was still waiting at 8.50, with next to no communication from the staff. I had decided I couldn't be bothered to cook, so took the half hour drive to Ponteland to collect a takeaway instead. Absolute waste of time and fuel, I'll not be back here.

Can't comment on the food, I gave up waiting. Ordered online and collection time was 20.21! I was still stood there at 20.45, with virtually no staff interaction. Just glad I had the pay on collection option.

Ate here recently after getting a taxi from an airport hotel where we were staying before an early morning flight. Due to being a Tuesday evening the restaurant wasn’t busy so managed to get a table no problem. The restaurant was very cold so I’d suggest wearing warm clothing! The service was poor - quite unwelcoming, felt a little awkward like we were an inconvenience! We were given plastic menus which clearly hadn’t been sanitised as they were dirty with dried curry/rice and a bit of wilted, soggy lettuce!! Asked for them to be cleaned and they were snatched from us by the waiter with no apology. Had poppadoms and pickles which were really tasty. Mains were equally good. The food here was lovely, but sadly let down by poor service, filthy menus and a very chilly restaurant - not somewhere you’d sit for any length of time.

Went here with a large group of 14 and can only say thanks for great service and great food. We were all looked after superbly well. I’d like to think I’m a pretty good judge of Indian food, it’s my favourite food, although this isn’t my neighbourhood and not my regular restaurant, I can’t fault the food, absolutely spot on. Looking forward to going again soon.

Absolutely shocking service. We had to chase our popadoms after 30 minutes of waiting, they arrived and a minute later so did our main meal. We sent the main meal back so we could finish our popadoms. About 25 minutes later our table was cleared and the mains arrived. Not sure where they had been sat for 25 minutes? But in fairness they were hot. Main meal was very average, one of the curries was extremely bland. Definitely believe it was a ‘packet’ mushroom rice served. To top it off, mouldy, gone off coriander leaf was all in the onion pickle… they knocked £1.95 off for this!!!! All in all, 3 stars is actually quite kind. We were just staying in the area for 1 night and will definitely not be returning to this restaurant. Do not recommend.

Joined some friends for whom this is their local curry house and had a fab meal. All the dishes were tasty and generous.

Great news, we found a restaurant that COVID doesn’t exist, had a meal in here last not, only to be very very disappointed, with staff, food and mostly with the ignorance of the local people who were quite happy to wonder around without face covering or social distancing, shouting cuddling the whole nine yards. Staff were quite happy, to join in and a one bit people walked in off the street and walked behind the bar area to cuddle to barman, and people wonder why we are in lockdown.

Absolutely beautiful food. We absolutely love it here. Best curry by far I've had (and family members from around the UK). The naan bread is exceptional just beautiful.

First time trying ponteland tandoori and the food was lovely. It was on time when I got there and all of the staff were pleasant. Will definitley be coming to dine in once it reopens properly.

Just had a takeaway from the Ponteland Tandoori and it was very poor. My daughter went to collect and had to wait 40 minutes to collect and they didn’t have one of the starters ordered. We didn’t find this out until it was collected which I can’t understand as we ordered online and they ask for a phone number and email address. My husband had egg pilau (inedible) and Chicken Tikka Masala very red and tasteless. Vegetable bahjee also tasteless . The meal we had on New Years Eve was much better. Won’t be rushing back.

Have eaten at PT previously and really enjoyed the food, but the takeaway we had two weeks ago was not enjoyable at all. The nan breads were burnt underside and not cooked properly (stodgy/sticky inside). My makhani had very little chicken (loads of sauce) in it and the chicken was rubbery. The pasanda was tasteless and far too sweet. another dish was also tasteless. Paid £70 for tasteless, and no freebies either (usually Indian restaurants throw him a few popadoms, or something else). This was for a special occasion so was extremely disappointing.

Sorry but I really can’t recommend this place. We had a takeaway. Service: our food was ready on time, that was the only plus! The guy who took payment wasn’t friendly.Food: none of the dishes we had were nice at all, quite greasy and lacking flavour. The king prawns had a strange texture and just disintegrated.I’d have marked this terrible but they scored an extra point for the food being ready on time.

Best Indian takeaway( believe me I’ve tried them all) delicious food friendly staff.

Had to pick up take away last night so scary, no social distancing at all , not be back for awhile.There must have been about 8 standing to be served and some had no masks on.

Having to wait over an hour for a starter was disappointing. Then bringing the wrong starter..food was good otherwise..

I recently visited with friends over the weekend. I don't think we'll be in a hurry to go back. The curries lacked not only passion but taste. The starters looked like they had spent a minute to long in the microwave too. Also they were unable to provide the simple onion bhaji. Haway man! Like a hairdressers with no shampoo.

Here with freinds, we all order different things, every dish was just the same in taste, dansak, pathia, madras, vindaloo, all had the same level of heat, if you put them all together, I very much doubt you could tell what curry was what?? We arrived around 7:30, they had no onion bhaji's left, absolutely ridiculous, my starter was a chicken chatt, tasteless, unappetising, boring, were is the pride and love in these dishes, absolutely none here.

Mundane. Average. Fine. Forgettable. So-so. Unrewarding. Inoffensive. Bland. Who? Defeatist. Defeated.

Best tandoori chicken I've ever tasted. Great place to eat in or takeaway.

Fabulous. I've had veggie balti here, and it's full of vegetables, a proper plate full of veg in a great balti sauce.

At 6pm midweek the place was quiet but cold. They had portable gas heaters which wasn't really aesthetic. It never warmed up. Service was slow and drinks order was wrong. Starters were vegetable samosa (3 small ones) and vegetable pakora which resembled a bhaji. (2 small portions) The mains of vegetable Rogan Josh were more substantial but bland and a mush of vegetables.. Also had pickle tray and poppadams which was good. Prices mid range.

I’ve been eating here for over 30 years, the quality of food has never been less than outstanding, in addition to wonderful food the staff are brilliant.

Son returned home for a spell and wanted to re visit Pont Tandoori for a good curry , I had been with a friend after a couple of pints one night and it didn’t disappoint , lived in Pont for 35 years and remember it opening we have not been that regular but when we do it never disappoints great choice and taste and good value with decent portion size too , the open plan kitchen is a great idea as you can dispel any theories about what goes on in the kitchen see for yourself clean efficient and good atmosphere .

Absolute waste of time and money , waited 20 mins after ordering drinks had to go to bar myself and tell them, then the main curry was disgusting, tasteless, not hot at all, chips burnt, dried chicken the worst curryI have ever had, trouble is they were so concerned about the takeaways they over booked in , at one time must have been 25 people waiting, an absolute joke, instead of being so GREEDY tell people you cant cope especially the ones being over charged for the rubbish food you give at the table, then the nerve to say Ive knocked your curry off the bill, so what about the chips,rice nan bread what also went in the bin, never ever be back a total rip off and the worst service ever seen !!!!! do not recommend to anyone unless your one of the regulars who get hand shakes and pats on the back

We had a fantastic evening at our charity fundraiser. The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and the food was lovely considering they served 55 of us at once. The staff even joined in the raffle, the auction and were part of the fun. Well done and thanks on behalf of SHADE UK.

We eat here regularly and the food is excellent.I particularly like the way they’ve opened up the kitchen so you can see the cooks hurrying around preparing the food.I’ve never had a bad meal from here either dining in or as a takeout and I recommend it.

Had heard good things about Ponteland Tandoori but can only say we were left disappointed. There was nothing particularly wrong with the meal - the staff were pleasant and room had a good atmosphere (other than the blow heaters), but both curries were incredibly bland. The meat had not been marinated for any length of time and the curry sauce lacked any spice or zing whatsoever. We were overcharged on our drinks bill which was rectified and we would accept that as a genuine error. Given the high standard of competition in Newcastle for Indian cuisine, our visit was a bit of a let down sadly.

One of the best Indian restaurants in the North East

A group of us went to The Ponteland Tandoori and were warmly welcomed and shown directly to our table. It's a long time since I had last been but I was quickly reminded how the decor, fittings and furnishing are so palatial.What really knocked the ambience was the number of portable gas heaters scattered about the place which definately did not blend in at all. The service was quick and relaxed and the food was very good indeed. We had a thoroughly good time and a very nice night out.

Upon first entering the restaurant we were quickly and efficiently directed to our reserved table. The waiter brought us our drinks and took our food order with good knowledge of the products and prices. After ordering I was even able change my main course choice. The food arrived in good time and was of a very standard. I will certainly be returning again for another meal.

Popped in for a birthday celebration. Food was nice enough and decently priced although service isn’t the best in my opinion.

Woww what can i say i was out with my Boss from Kieth from Kieths Coaches there was 10 of us all together. The Service Spot on. The Food omg it was Really Fantastic. We all Enjoyed evrry moment of being there.
