The South Beach Pub in Northumberland

Although this is a typical 'estate pub' in terms of its location, it is far better than many. The Food is good and the beer choices are excellent. We often drink the wine and have never had a bad drop.

Came down yesterday for the first time with my family (with 2 children under 5). It is so clear that the ownership understands the needs of families with young kids. The back outside area of the pub is fenced in, and the inside is all windows - meaning that if your kids want to play outside, you can see them at all times. We ordered food, and the children were served first (something that should really happen in more places!). They also had lots of options for kids food in different sizes (under 5, over 5, and bigger appetites). The kids both loved their food too. The management was extremely friendly and accommodating (despite us asking a million questions) and made sure we felt looked after. The food was extremely reasonably priced, with lots of options (the beef dripping and merlot sauce was fantastic). The atmosphere was great. There were a lot of families with young children, and everyone was chatting and the children were playing together. Can't recommend enough for families. Decent selection of wine too!

Fabulous family friendly pub! The manager Simon is so friendly and our kids love him! He’s done a brilliant job turfing out all the riff raff since he took over! Only place in Blyth our family goes!

Back in the South Beach for another lovely meal and fabulous experience. The staff here are so lovely and Simon the manager is an absolute star: nothing is too much trouble for this man. Highly recommend the food here, good pub grub. Back soon!

Attended a get together here. Food and drink was superb. A great choice of tipple available along with a great manager who took time out to welcome us, creating a great family feel to the place.

Very lovely pub, especially in the area as there aren’t many around. The service was quick and the servers were lovely, I went for a family catchup and it was amazingly priced for what we got. The manager was lovely and seemed to welcome everybody in and out which you don’t see much of nowadays. Deffo recommend

Absolutely cracking pub. Very family friendly and all staff so friendly and welcoming. Great menu and food was fantastic. Simon the Manager is an absolute star - we had a minor family emergency and he couldn’t have been more helpful, caring and friendly. Definitely be back. Great place.

Over priced very somber atmosphere Manager is not a well liked man by view of other clients, he is not friendly or approachable.

Good: Pub itself seems nice enough, looks like it'd be a good place to watch sports. Nice little beer garden. Bad: A member of staff was quite rude from the moment we walked in, and the food was very overcooked. Half of the taps at the bar seemed to be out of order (although there was plenty of bottles to choose from still).

A mixed grill and an argentinian steak meal for less than £20 on the offer. Food was good as always, pleasant place to sit and relax with a drink and meal late afternoon. Ps. Its good value without the 30% offer too and good to support a local business.

Food was amazing! Let down was my plate was put down, not warned by the person serving that plate was hot!! Barman was so rude, was made up though by the most lovely female barmaid (tattoos & so pretty) she was so nice, the young lad was eating something out of a tub whilst serving me totally bored by my presence!

Very lively ambience. Although extremely busy this did not impact on the overall service or experience. Prices very reasonable, food tasty and well cooked and service excellent. Menu large and varied

Lovely lunchtime visit. Good value on food and drink.

Big party. Those who ordered from the normal menu seemed to enjoy their meals. The 4 of us who ordered the roasts were left disappointed. 1 tiny portion of veg between 2, had to order more veg. Yorkshire puddings difficult to cut, almost borrowed my father in laws steak knife to cut it, it was inedible. Would come again but will definitely avoid the Sunday roasts.

Visited tonight turned up at 8 clock to order food to be told food finished 3 minutes ago checked my phone was exactly 8 clock staff said was 3 minute's past 8. Very disappointed considering we come to pub quite often for food.

The doner kebab with fries is the best in the land

First time going to the South Beach calling in for lunch. Not overcrowded and we sat in the conservatory looking over the pleasant beer garden with a great slide for kids. Anyway looking at the extensive menu my wife had the Hunter's chicken and never having seen Donnar kebab with a choice of sauces, that's for me. Both meals freshly cooked with loads of fries were absolutely delicious and the kebab was worth every penny. By the way both meals were not expensive. We certainly will be back, it's a big menu and the also have specials in the evenings like curry and quiz night on Wednesday. Highly recommended.

Lively and friendly place. Plenty of space for kids as well as a playground out on the beer garden. Great service. Quick and attentive staff.

We attended a “Kids Easter Party” at south beach this afternoon. The tickets were priced at £7 per child which I thought was reasonably cheap and it’s fair to say the children’s event exceeded any exceptions I had. The DJ/Entertainer was amazing at getting all the kids involved, there was lots of games (plenty of variation to give everyone a chance to win) and lots of prizes. There was even snacks and a break time mid way to draw and recharge before taking home a full Easter egg each at the end. Definitely be looking out for future family events.

Oddly this is not on the Beach nor particularly near to a beach but it was worth a visit. Spacious and clean with good exterior lighting and a wonder - a giant sport TV with no sound! The menu is pretty well a standard pub menu with something for everyone. Service is trifle haphazard and the one in our party who ordered a vegetarian pie got no pie at all until she eventually complained and then was told it was off the menu but the chicken and mushroom pie was pronounced delicious. Draft lager at absolutely the right temperature. The best tasting chips that I have ever been served. Rather more dog tolerant than dog-friendly. Overall quite a good place for lunch.

Visited this little gem of a pub for late lunch. From entering very relaxed friendly atmosphere. We chose where to sit after ordering at bar. Very helpful and friendly staff. Daughter chose mixed grill ( wow very impressive). Everything was cooked perfectly and well presented. Myself fish and chips very well presented everything on plate where it should be. Absolutely delicious very well cooked . Staff asked if everything OK with meal. I can imagine this place beinv very busy .I heard they have a band once a week. The menu includes a weekly preference burger curry etc on selected days. Price of food very reasonable. We shall be returning.

Lovely pub and food delicious offering variety and gluten free options, can recommend the gf Hunters Chicken. I had a little dispute over giving a £20 and the barman adamant I'd only given £10 but the manager resolved this issue over the telephone this morning and I would never give a damaging review therefore do not condone my husbands negative review.

Burger and a pint for £8.50, good value

The pub was taken over by a beautiful little family. The food is amazing and excellent value for money especially when you a few kids! You always get a friendly welcome. They have weekly good deals and Sunday lunch! They have an enclosed park for little ones! There are various entertainments on check out Facebook which is updated regularly. We had Christina’s lunch last year which was lovely and I felt so relaxed not having to cook and do dishes and got to relax the whole day. I attended a surprise 40th and have had a birthday party for my daughter. You should defo consider for your next celebration

Lovely atmosphere. Needs some cocktail glasses and trimmings. The place is very shabby. It needs pulling down and rebuilt. Loads of new housing around would benefit from a new clean family pub.

Being a local it’s a decent pub… great in the summer with the kids. However one huge negative is that the prices have risen significantly with the new owners. You can’t always blame COVID/supply chain issues for price rises.

Improvement in the fact new people have taken over. Went for food but was told they had stopped taking orders, looked like the staff were totally overwhelmed and not coping. Order a pint of ginuess and was told they had run out. First time in the pub for 2 years. I won't be rushing back there.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere

This Pub is great to visit, the staff are very profesional and are allways full of humor. There's a lot of food being served now. We turned up at 6pm one Saturday and had to wait for a table it was that busy. There's a good bunch of lads like to play killer pool at the weekends and new comers are allways asked to join in.

Manger is a bit of a control freak here (I’ll bet you my bottom dollar he doesn’t own this place) and he certainly doesn’t look after his customers, nor does he have a clue about customer service or how to speak to and treat his customers. Also, if violence is your thing come to this place, ambulances abundant, police everywhere. Have a look in the lounge, photos will confirm authenticity. Avoid this place.

I wouldn't have gone here a couple of years ago but have been in a few times since lockdown ended and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Such a lovely atmosphere with wonderful and accomodating staff. (The toilets are spotless too!) Really looking forward to trying out the massive beer garden when the weather improves :) Give the place a go if you've not been in yet!

A bar on a housing estate, perfect for the locals with a pool table a large outside seating area and something for the kids to play on. Somewhere I would call, cheap and cheerful.

Nice staff. Pub a bit run down. Food was ok but nothing to rave over. The baked beans had obviously been under a heat lamp or in the oven as they were dried out. However, atmosphere was nice and obviously a family pub.
