Disgusting we won a voucher from a fair that was held at heriot gardens in Sunderland marys donated the votcher to the girl who worked at Mary's at the time lovely but has since left we tried to redeem the vocher yesterday to be told we carnt because the girl have sighted the back of the vocher they dont know who she is the girl sent the owner a message today to be told because she doesn't work their any more the vocher is not valid omg how disgusting after donating for charity I'm gob smacked

Bland and tasteless chips, and I don't know how they do it but the batter they use on the sausages is just awful. Also the lack of card payment in the shop is a pain unless you order ahead.

Used to be a decent chippy back in the day under the previous owners with decent food and atmosphere with really fair pricing for their customers. Since the new ownership prices have shot up it's as expensive as any pizza shop in shields right now with no Justification for it as the food has declined or not improved at all and there's just an overal miserable atmosphere about the place. I used to get tikka wraps from here all the time under previous ownership but these new owners reheat their chicken in the microwave instead off the grill like previous owners and charge you more for it. Just one example of prices going up but the quality of food going down. Cant imagine many locals use this chippy anymore due to the prices. Just a shame to see what's become off a once really decent local chippy.

The old lady who keeps shouting in the background when placing your order on the phone has the worst attitude.What she fails to remember is that your customers are your bread and butter love,so sort it out as it sounds like it's rubbing off on your staff.The food is average and the delivery driver's always polite and on time.I still think the food is overpriced, and now considering spending our money somewhere else.

Expensive over rated and under cooked very greedy charging people that much for box and bag of grease old owners was better people

Haven't been to Marys in about 10 years as I moved away, saw they was on uber eats recently and I can honestly say the quality of food hasn't changed. Amazing fish, the chips were cooked to perfection. Definitely the best fish and chip shop around.

Ok so this is quite simple you order a wrap choices chips or salad, so i ask for salad order arrives 2 x wrap 1 x chips garlic mayo and chllli sauce nearly £30 however no tomatoes no lettuce no cucumbers no onions, only cheap red cabbage in wrap.. I just left my regular takeaway because of this only to find the same thing happening here, you tight selfish takeaways you over charge and can't even put a basic salad in the wrap... Stop being bloudy tight, if you won't put it in the wrap then say so.. Dissapointed i will not order from here again..

What a place! The staff are absolutely lovely. The food was astounding. I must admit it was my 1st visit, but it will not be my last. We had fish, chips, battered sausage, fish cake and pizza. Not a fault with anything. Proper size portions!

Disgrace of a place!! Twice in the space of a week they've forgotten to add things to the order. Rang them up to explain and got a horrible foreign women screaming down the phone saying she packed the bag!! If it was in the bag we wouldn't be ringing!!! Told them to come and pick the scrap up but that was a waste of time! Avoid at all costs! Attitude stinks!!

Always getting the order wrong ordered chips chilli garlic x2 and a chips with garlic we got 3x chips and garlic and the garlic was only on 4 chips 🤨 kebab is gritty but the warm chilli is to die for so I do recommend the chilli sauce

They got a different woman on phone rude talks over you sent two chips instead of one kebab an portion chips cos he didn't eat it straight away went to open it I didn't want another one just attitude was terrible usually go twice a week never again too thick cannot tell difference between kebab an chips!!!

Never ordered from hear before but just had pizzas delivered and 20 out of 10 from us so fresh red hot this has got to be the only place in the North East who knows how to cook a pizza base properly we will be bk keep up the good work

Ordered 2 meal deal, 10" pepperoni pizza, 12" chicken kiev pizza, kebab with salad,, the kebab meat was fine and loads I was happy with that but the pizza bases were chewy and greasy and toppings were bland,,, wish I hadn't wasted £20

my meal was 30 mins late my meal come with undrcooked chips which is not acceptable at all then i got in contact with the restaurant and they tried to pass the issue to just eat although i paid cash and now wont answer me after i have contacted just eat and they have told me the restaurant is to blame and will need to refund me do not go there whatsoever the customer service is disgusting

Just had the worst Bollonaise Special Pizza, topping was just very fine sauce with very little meat content. It all went in the bin and should have learnt my lesson last time with substandard ingredients.

Ordered for 8:40. Food turned up at 7:30.... fish was manky/ didnt smell right... called to cancel/return n get refund to be told that someone was on his way... hour later still no sign. Rang again to be told on the way and hung up on... wouldn't go to these people again. Its not the first problem with undercooked fish from there and i doubt it would be the last.... avoid and go somewhere better

good when bought from shop.ordered in chips soggy,asked for well done fish ,batter soggy,chicken nuggets soggy.they obviously had been steaming in container for a while.all in all horrible.dont know if we will even go back to shop! def avoid ordering for delivery

This chippy has a new owner apparently good pizzas but i ordered a pizza and garlic bread but after hour and half still no sign of any one and when i call them they said 5 or 10 minutes still nothing after 15 minutes and this is happening in Tuesday 😂😂😂 i would understand if was weekend

Ordered from the special menu 2 pizzas, 2 kebabs chips, salad and a bottle of diet coke Told it would be delivered at 21:10 Rang the shop at 21:30 to be told its “2 minutes away” 21:50 it eventually arrived. One of the Pizzas was warm, the extra cheese we ordered must of evaporated en route, The other was far too over cooked as you can see in the picture And the coke wasnt diet Rang the shop to tell him the order was wrong and we ordered diet cola to which his reply was ‘sorry we didnt have any diet’ Told him he could of rang me to tell me. And we could of ordered some other diet drink. His attitude stunk. £20 odd quid on cold food Wouldnt care the shop is only 7 minutes away Last time we order from there. Worst takeaway I've had in my life. Never mind the wrong order being delivered after an hour and having to wait another hour for the rest. Everything in batter was soggy and the chips were wet and greasy. I can't believe I paid for that rubbish!!

I have ordered from here many times and food is generally nice. Its always normally late but its never deterred me before, until now. Ordered food at 18.06, expected delivery time was 19.20 (already abit of a wait, but normal for Mary's). Waited until 19.50 to call restaurant to which they said it will be 3 mins. At 20.07 it arrived. LUKE WARM, and BURNT. The geordie delight must have had 2 slices of kebab meat on - IF that. And it was crumbling away it was that over cooked. There was also hardly no cheese on. I have binned mine, kids attempted to eat the pepperoni one since Mary's somehow felt they had justification to decline Just Eat's request to give me a refund. I guess they would be seriously out of pocket since there getting loads of bad reviews I understand they cant refund EVERYONE. And, if they were doing anything to improve on this you could be forgiving but, they have no intention. Same old excuses you get off them. 100% wont be ordering from here again and will 100% making sure i make all my family and friends who also order from here aware. AVOID!

Ordered 2 nights in a row waited 2 hours each night for delivery. The 2 night my tub of garlic was burst all over!!! Dicusting

Normally Lovely food, got a delivery last night kebab meat was all curled up and dried out it was rock hard, and the pizza was like a £1 Iceland one that had been left in the oven too long, ordered at 6.30pm and didn't come until 8:45pm tried calling back no answer... totally disappointed won't be going back

Ordered 1 pizza and a bottle of coke at 7:40 and it did not come until 9:42, not happy at all will not be ordering from here again could of got it hand made from Italy and it would of been quicker 😡

Lovely chicken kebab. Nicest garlic sauce I've had for along time and chips are nice. Not frozen chips like most places. Only down side delivery takes a little while longer than any other place

Order from here regularly.. In my opinion the fish and chips are much better than the nearby much lauded Green Lane fish shop. Prices are reasonable and service good. Things cooked to order so are nice and hot but it does mean there can be a short wait. This can be avoided by ringing in the order for collection.

Ordered for collection and they didnt even have it ready 20 mins after they said! Total duckeggs!! Go elsewhere!!! Clowns!!

Sunday and starving so me and my gf decided order food from Mary's. Well the chicken nuggets tasted like gandy flip flop. The chips looked and tasted like the cooked In the year 1990. The burgers were disgusting I wouldn't feed them to me neighbour cat. Fast forward following day we are both Ill with stomach cramps and contemplating life. I would rather go to middle fields tip and eat out the bins in future it would be more fresh. Cheers Mary for the horrible experience I hope I live to warm others as at the moment I'm dying with what I summise is food poison. Cheers pet

Ordered from Mary's as our usual takeaway was closed, wish we hadn't bothered. I ordered a bolognese pizza and my partner ordered a margarita. Both pizzas came with an extremely dry stale base and the tomato sauce had a strange taste. The man behind the counter also ignored me when I first went in, the young lad that was preparing food had to come over and serve me, not great customer service, won't be going again

Visited this chippy on a Wednesday tea time as my usual chippy on green lane is closed on a Wednesday. I had to wait for a while for them to cook the fish but at least it was fresh, fish and chips were nice and good price. Staff also polite.

First time customer. All my local takeaways are closed due to the holidays so I though I would search ones that are open I discovered Mary's fish and chips. the chap I spoke to on the phone was pleasant and to be honest I didn't expect much quality wise. i ordered kebab wrap with chips chilli and garlic source and a tandoori kebab with garlic base.. The chap who delivered was friendly and the smell was lovely. The taste is amazing way better then what I expected I will be ordering again and willing to bin off a few of my local as their quality does not meet Mary's...New satisfied customer gained :)

We have used Marys for years now and usually are satisfied with the food but the last two times have been terrible. One of the pizza's was meant to be pepperoni, you would be lucky to find 3 pieces on the whole thing! The chips, dear me, nothing but ends and scraps just like they used to be a few years back. Totally unedible. We wont be back this time.

Absolutely disgusting. Waited around 20 minutes for some cheesy chips and tub of garlic. Chips soaked in grease the bottom of the tray was like a puddle. Absolutely awful cheese was awful and the chips were brown and weren't cooked, tasted like a raw potato just soggier and tasted worse. Tub of garlic tasted like cheep mayo and egg mixed together was like jelly, made me reach when I tried it I highly recommend any other pizza shop. Rather eat a tramps pair of boxers he's wore for 20 year than pay for food from here again. DO NOT GO. You have been warned

Cheap special offers, lovely donnor wraps when they get it right. Kabab is a very greasy but it's alright and good with the price. Ripe to mary's lay off the grease on the kabab. 😂

used to be a regular for pizza addict in Jarrow until a couple of bad experiences didn't realise this was just around the corner! chicken tikka kebabs are brilliant! no need to look anywhere else now :-)

Called in for the obligatory Good Friday fish and chips and were not disappointed. No huge queue's that some in the area had but ticking over nicely. Small fish was not so small and the large fish was huge. Both portions of chips were fresh, hot and quality. Easily the best for fish and chips in the town and nothing like some of the greasy mess's on offer at nearby chip shops.

If you fancy a nice take away look elsewhere,this has got to be the worst place in South Shields.ordred a chicken pizza and chips.after over hours wait it came.the chips where stone cold and the pizza was soggy in grease.the meat was off!! Rang to complain was told it was garlic butter... I don't think so.i said come get it was told to busy then had nerve to say I could have discount on next order.... I'm not fussy eater an never complain but this took the piss!! Look elsewhere.

We have been using Mary's for about 5 years now and it really is the BEST place to get pizza in the whole of South Shields. Our particular favorites are the super veggie special on thin crust which has no meat and is really spicy, the other is the tuna special again on thin crust, absolutely gorgeous. They have an offer on before 7pm I think it is where all pizzas are £3.50. The chips are also lovely and they do a mean small fish and chips for £3.50 which is perfect if you have a normal appetite as the normal size fish and chips is huge! Can I also recommend the chicken kebab, not your usual rubbish here, this is chicken breast done on the grill and served with onion and peppers along with a pitta and salad or chips, gorgeous! Service is always friendly but if you are collecting I would advise you do call first as it gets so busy and it saves you standing about. Cannot recommend this takeaway highly enough and I am very hard to please!

I asked for the fish to be cooked without batter as I'm on a gluten free diet. The fish was cooked separate and was found to be ok. Cooked to order so a slight wait was required.
