Lunch with friends. Low key but well done and not expensive.

The food is lovely and made all the better by a friendly team especially the lady who served us called Michele. I did email prior to the visit some details but these were not taken up. The only comment was the young girl who greeted us offered drinks whilst I was trying to transfer my wife from her wheelchair to the normal chair. The weather was as nice as the hotel which made a great day out especially on your 52nd anniversary. Keep up the good work.

Elegant with friendly staff but food a little disappointing. Portions small, I felt the roast potatoes were over cooked and one slice of my beef was decidedly chewy, not helped by the dinner knife being blunt. Lovely atmosphere and nice gardens.

Lovely lunch in delightful setting . Food excellent , service excellent . Lovely staff , nothing was too much trouble especially as we had one vegan and one gluten intolerant diner and a teenager who has very limited dietary needs !

My only small piece of feedback would be to wipe tables between courses just to elevate the experience even more, but other than that, would highly recommend and visit again!

Three of us had the most appalling lunch today on the terrace of the west lodge park hotel. We had smoked salmon sandwiches which were a disgrace. The salmon was placed inside two doorsteps of brown bread which was meant to be granary bread no butter was on the bread and the sandwich was so dry you couldn’t swallow it. We had two coffees each and the cups were half full at £5 per Cup!!!! What a shame the standard has gone down to such a low level and we certainly won’t be returning!!

I have not visited this beautiful setting for a terrace lunch for 2 years as food used to be awful... well nothing has changed. The menu is limited We ordered 3 smoked salmon sandwiches. They arrived and was appalled a greasy spoon cafe wouldnt serve these. Dry door step slices of bread with a piece of smoked salmon shoved in between. That was it! Just inedible , and unappealing. The 2 cappuccinos were not even a full cup and the americano could have been fuller at£5.50 a cup. Never have I felt more embarrassed infront of my friends. The management seem to sit back on there laurels and hope that a beautiful venue with amazing gardens will be sufficient and disregard the food . Choice is appalling all they needed to do for a lunchtime menu is provide edible sandwiches, egg dishes toasties and jacket potatoes. Please read this and take it on board. Perhaps boycotting might make them re think as having written to owner before and received a stupid response thst he ate there daily and had no issues makes you wonder what his culinary tastes are. This little fiasco cost£73 for 3 people... money down the drain

Excellent menu and standards very good all round.

Excellent food in a very beautiful setting. The restaurant itself is slightly outdated but the outdoor area and the arboretum which you can walk around after or before lunch is really lovely. Great for a family lunch on a special occasion.

A really beautiful setting but unfortunately let down by the food and to a certain extent the service. We are vegetarian, and that may have been our mistake in choosing this restaurant. We were assured beforehand that certain dishes in the starters menu could be created as a main therefore we had a range of options so we decided to try it out. The service, though polite and professional was extremely slow. Took us 20 mins to just order the drinks. When ordering the food we found that the options we were told were vegetarian were not. Though not happy we proceeded to choose alternatives. When the food came, the pizza for the kids was over salty, the vegan option over salty but the spaghetti and pappadelli pasta was completely tasteless. The pappadelli we had to send back as there was no taste to it at all. We then waited.... and waited.... and waited for the kid brownie. They were happy to refund me the pasta dish but overall we left unsatisfied with a bill to boot. All the makings pf a great restaurant but not for the vegetarian.

For some reason my review was chopped. Only part of what I said was printed. What I actually said was the Restaurant was lovely, staff couldn't have been nicer and helpful. In fact the whole staff within the hotel deserve a mention as being friendly, cheerful and extremely helpful. And yes I did say 'Best lamb i'v had for ages'.

A very uninspiring afternoon tea was had here by my wife and 2 elderly friends. The sandwiches, made with ordinary sliced bread were basic and tasteless as were the scones. Not the first time this group has been here and they were hoping for some improvements since their last visit, unfortunately this was not the case. The general consensus was that they would rather pay a bit more and get better quality.

Delicious food, and efficient friendly service. We were not hurried through the meal, and had a lovely time.

The food was amazing, fresh and tasty. The staff was lovely and attentive. Would definitely recommend everyone to come and try.

It was my aunt's 90th birthday,great food ,great ambience,staff attentive. The only thing was I thought the carrots were underdone !

They serve a great smoked salmon sandwich accompanied with crisps & salad. The atmosphere is calming and the background piano music reassuring without being too loud. The staff are friendly, professional & accommodating. The hotel is full of Beale family history told thru photos & portraits. Also the hotel is set in lovely grounds with well cared for plants, trees & flowers.

The hotel is very tastefully decorated but the food wasn't very good. They only had 3 choices of starters, we tried 2 out of the 3 and we didn't like either of them.

As always a super Sunday lunch. Made extra special by the staff who realised it was our daughters birthday. Thank you.

Went for brunch with friends food took ages to come and it really was NOT worth the money. Bacon ciabatta with lettuce...lol 😂 hot lettuce. One thin slice of bacon and 2 pieces of lettuce. Bloody joke for £10.95 We were all disappointed with out food hence never going back. Oh and its not the first time we have visited. Decided best to go elsewhere. Shame. Can't get their act together.

Excellent food and service. Buffet breakfast, bar food most of the day, and a separate restaurant. .

Went for a Sunday roast. Food was shockingly bad. Roast potatoes were rock solid as was the one parsnip served. The lamb and Yorkshire pudding were okay. But for the price, it is simply terrible. The dessert was perhaps even worse. The raspberry macaron was more like a stale meringue. I could have broken my teeth on it. The portion size was tiny and it simply had a few raspberries and whipping cream. So very disappointed. Service was far too slow, and at points verging on rude. The atmosphere eas not bad but a little jaded. It could really do with an upgrade.

I would like to formally file a complaint against this restaurant. The manager who was on duty on 24/10/2023 at 12:30 was disrespectful and arrogant. He refused to allow us to sit in the main restaurant area on three times and insisted that we sit in the coffee/bar area, even though 90% of the tables in the main restaurant area were unoccupied. I specifically requested a table in the main restaurant area, not the coffee/bar area, but he provided numerous excuses and continued to insist on seating us in the coffee/bar area. On the third time, I made an online reservation right in front of him, as his last excuse was that we had to book a table through the online system. He claimed that he couldn't arrange a table in the restaurant area without an ONLINE BOOKING. Subsequently, the manager told me that we could sit in the bar area and that he would attempt to change our table from the coffee/bar area to the restaurant area since someone had just made a restaurant reservation before us. I hope this restaurant can find a more competent and accommodating manager. Don't waste your time here.

Beautiful place, loads of food, very tasty vegan options. Staff very kind and sweet. Highly recommend! Make sure you will take both vegan and standard option as selection of sandwiches and cakes is different.

Lovely lunch today at West Lodge Park.... relaxing and unhurried, we thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the Orangery with the view over the gardens, watching the sheets of rain, followed by bright sunshine. The food was delicious - I had the roast chicken, beautifully cooked, followed by very yummy pumpkin pie with caramel ice-cream. I wish I'd taken some photos, as the dishes looked fabulous. Really nice service too - a proper treat!

Wonderful restaurant with fresh produce and cooked to order. Very spacious and very accommodating for disabled people. There’s nothing to match this hotel for miles around. Perfect for special occasions. Enjoy.

What a first class dining experience. My friends and I came for lSunday Lunch and we were all bowled over with not only the exceptional quality of the food, but also the exceptional quality of the staff! Just fabulous. Roast potatoes were delicious, the beef cooked to perfection and none of our glasses ever stayed empty for long due to the attentive (but not intrusive) care of the waiting staff. We are now considering having another get together in December to sample the very inviting Christmas menu we have found on West Park website. We shall be back! With (Christmas) bells on!

Whilst we had a lovely meal, the service wasn't great. The service was fine initially as we were 1 of only a couple of tables. Once the restaurant was full, service was very poor. Menu choice not huge. No kids menu to view, just given a verbal list of what was on offer. Could be much better.

Over priced food and drinks. Go the central London for better service and good food. Would not recommend. Portion are quite small.

Following a friend's party in a private room we always intended to return for lunch or dinnner. Finally we called in for Sunday lunch today and so glad we did. Good food, relaxing atmosphere and beautiful setting. Only blot was the coffee.

We visited today with a reservation at the start of Afternoon Tea service: In summary, disappointing, poor quality, poor presentation and so slow we almost left before finishing. The restaurant and terrace were barely half full. Although most of the waiting staff we encountered were warm and friendly, things were let down by how long everything took. 20 mins to have our order taken. Received tea in 10 mins. Waited 40 mins to be served the food at which point the tea was cold. The second set of sandwiches took a further 55 mins to arrive, just in time for the end of our allotted time slot on the table. Presentation and quality of the afternoon tea is quite poor considering the price of £31 each. Crusts not completely cut off. Coronation Chicken filling smeared all over the cucumber sandwiches. Looked like whoever made them was trying to break a world record. Which is confusing as the bread was going crispy like they’d been sitting out. I really don’t think the sandwiches were up to par. My partner said he’s had better out of a van. To be honest, I felt the whole thing wasn’t worth £31 and I wanted my second set of crappy sandwiches to get my moneys worth at least. Scones nice. Clotted cream was sloshed into the ramekin with mixed up tea leaves. Baked treats were nice/ok. Nothing amazing. Let down by the rest of it. The children’s afternoon tea on offer was quite good although also overpriced at £15 or so. Choice of any combination of simple sandwiches, non allergen treats and plain scone. We asked for a single glass of water for our child, and without asking they brought a £5 bottle of still water. Maybe explain what sort of water is on offer first? During the wait, a member of staff was coming around to the tables apologising for the delay in the kitchen and offered some tea. When we asked the second staff member about what was causing the delay, she suddenly seemed exasperated and explained that they had a full terrace and a function on at the same time and implied it was too much for the kitchen to cope with. We were watching and it did not seem full at any point. Perhaps the service of the function took over and their food was prioritised at the expense of the dining room. This is really not an excuse and is squarely the fault of management / owners for not properly staffing for the required service. This is not the fault of the wait staff or the kitchen staff. It seems they were running at the barest minimum staff and minimum expenditure and charging as much as they can get away with. Although the restaurant is very dated looking, the view of the grounds which you can see from a lot of tables is beautiful. The walk around the grounds was worth the visit but you can do that for free.

I was here for a wake, so the importance of the experience was heightened. While the food was good - especially as a wide variety of dietary requirements were efficiently accommodated - the service was not. Somw examples include being unclear as to how much food we were entitled to as part of the afternoon tea, what drinks were and weren't part of the set price (charged for a latte but not for a cappuccino) and were waiting close to 1 hour for something that had been pre-ordered for a set time. Given the difficulty of the day - something that we'd also made staff aware of ahead of time - we weren't well equipped (energetically/emotionally/mentally) to challenge or chase anything. We wanted a thoroughly smooth and relaxed experience, but this wasn't the case.

Lunch time sandwich recommended and reasonably priced

The location of this hotel is very peaceful & the gardens are gorgeous. We took advantage of the lovely early evening sunshine and took drinks in the garden area before our dinner. While the drinks were ok, they weren’t outstanding & it took a long time to take our order and a long time to make the drinks. If enough staff were employed we probably would have ordered more drinks. I should add that the drinks were not that cheap either. On to the food…while service was definitely too slow (we started to get very hungry waiting for our mains), as we were having a lovely evening this didn’t really matter and we were happy passing the time chatting away, albeit other guests may not have been quite so forgiving. The food itself was delicious and very well cooked from glazed duck breast, to shoulder of lamb, and the nicely cooked sirloin steaks, and fabulous triple cooked chips. The desserts were also very good, especially the banoffee pie. Overall, I can highly recommend this restaurant and the chefs are clearly very skilled. The pricing for the quality of food and beautiful ambience and setting is also definitely worth it. The only proviso I have is the same as I have with most hotels and restaurants across the UK hospitality industry but especially independent operators which is to train and improve staff on an ongoing basis, and employ enough staff! The staff were friendly for sure, but that doesn’t excuse lack of knowledge or quality or efficiency. Just invest some time & money in your people and they will reward you with the establishment having an excellent reputation 👍

Lovely evening in pleasant surroundings. Food excellent! The icing on the cake was our waiter James who entertained us as well as being very efficient. Not forgetting Brady the barman. Both were a treat. A thoroughly enjoyable evening!

Beautiful evening spent with family eating dinner in the gardens of this lovely hotel. Food was great and service too. I just wish they would have a spa/gym so it would attract more people to this lovely hotel and gardens.

A disappointing experience. The hotel and grounds are magnificent, the dining area and service was perfect but the food was really very average. The mackerel starter offered very little other than a piece of pickled mackerel and the chicken was so poor, literally a piece of breast fried in batter. Next to it were some salad leaves straight from a supermarket pack! Potatoes and vegetables were extra which made the price much higher than the meal deserved. Such a shame.

We had afternoon tea here to celebrate a baby shower and it was lovely. The service was excellent and the staff attentive. They even bought out extra sandwiches which was great. We were not rushed to leave either.

Had a surprise birthday afternoon tea. Was absolutely fantastic. Lovely decor . Staff attentive, polite and professional , but warm and friendly. Catered for allergies and dietary preferences. Offered a second round of sandwiches and another pot of tea. Cakes and scones were scrumptious and they were happy to give us a box to take the uneaten cakes home. Beautiful building in a picturesque setting.

A beautiful place and locations with wonderful happy staff. Went for afternoon tea and had plenty of it. Our lovely kind waitress was perfect and had excellent customer service skills . We all had a lovely time here and will definitely be coming back. I can’t recommend this place enough. It was not like other stuffy places and we had a wonderful relaxing time and not being rushed at all.

We chose the two course menu at £27 per person, and were not disappointed. The salmon and haddock fish cakes were excellent. Extensive wine list, pleasant dining area. The staff could not have been more helpful.

Xmas day lunch, NOT a great experience! Best part of the meal was the pud.

The restaurant is not in keeping with such a spectacular hotel.

Simply said it hit the spot. We were here to celebrate my parents diamond wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived it felt welcoming and friendly. Over the course of the meal we found out that nothing was too much trouble. Pre-drinks in the bar was a great start. Attentive and informal. We had a table in a separate area which allowed us a bit of privacy without feeling like you had been put away in an alcove. Everyone found something that they liked from the menu and there was no complaints with empty plates all around. The drink flowed with glasses being topped up as required. Service was excellent. What really sealed the deal was the piano player. Really nice to hear live music that added to the ambiance. All I can say was we had a great evening.

Very enjoyable dinner with family. Food is unpretentious but wholesome and well cooked. Lovely location at hotel in it's own parkland. Only thing stopping a 5? Service a tiny bit slow.

There was a set lunch menu as well as the full menu to choose from but in both cases the six of us felt that the menus were pretentious, with descriptive terms that not many would understand, thereby creating a false impression of superior cuisine aimed at the aficionados of quality dining. Needless to say, some of us chose from the set menu and some from the main menu which so complicated the billing because the staff had no means of charging the set price menu costs without charging for each element. Needless to say the bill was wrong and some embarrassment was created by having to call the attention of the manager to a substantial overcharge. Nevertheless the service was reasonably attentive and with sound absorbing carpet on the floor, conversation was possible without having to raise voices which I personally treasure these days when eating out. We felt that the menu was somewhat limited and the food presentation and quality was alright although not up to expectation bearing in mind the content of the menus as mentioned above.

Breakfast was great. Service was great. Location is perfect. The gardens are amazing. Would I go again? Well, we stated going 22 years ago on for my 50th and have been going almost every year since. We'll continue going whilst we still can!

We organised this lunch so that we could meet with two couples who we have known for ages, one of whom celebrated his 90th birthday a short time ago. We had moved away from the area so travelled on the day from Wiltshire, selected the...

We feel like abandoned. Thought this kind of hotel expect at least normal service but we had to keep calling them to clear plate , askibg pudding, coffee each time. Thought this restaurant service is falling. Shocking.

Vgood Sunday lunch. My Aunt is a stickler for details. So she was impressed by the proper napkins, silverware, attentive serving staff, just the right level of upmarket feel without upmarket prices. (£30 for two courses Sunday) When we asked for tap water no ice they served exactly that, (some do not), also when my Aunt asked for Mint tea they asked if she would like freshly cut Mint. I had a happy Aunt (she is not easily impressed), so I will be back. Food is excellent, not huge portions but good value in my opinion.

I booked a table for 3 for April 17th for Sunday lunch at £30 per head. Turned out it was Easter Sunday and they rang me 10 days before to tell me the price was now £46 per head. What are they serving at that...

Lovely setting, great ambience, service was wonderful, afternoon tea was lovely....and 'top ups' for the lovely sandwiches too which was a lovely touch!!! Didn't feel rushed and had a lovely time.
