Warm, welcoming staff, tasty food and lovely tea and coffee - what’s not to like. We had S&P chicken, gnocchi and tacos - all tasty, piping hot and served with a smile. Will defo go back and highly recommend.

Lovely breakfast, looks like a fun evening venue

The food was excellent, but unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy it as we were asked twice to move from table to table during our meal. I understand the staff's need to manage tables for incoming customers, but interrupting diners mid-meal felt inconsiderate and gave the impression of prioritizing profit over the brunch experience.

Yesterday afternoon, we walked in hoping to get a coffee. The member of staff on shift looked straight at us, said nothing, and then turned his back and walked to the side of the bar. He leaned on the bar and proceeded to scroll through his phone. We sat down and started looking at the menu, thinking he’d come over or offer help at some point. At one point, I looked over to see if he would realise we needed help, and he looked at me and then continued to look at his phone. I don’t know whether it’s table service or not, as I’ve only been a handful of times. But the least you’d expect is a hello when you walk into a café, and for them to explain if it’s not table service. Or at least do this when they can see you looking confused. We were so shocked by this guy's attitude that we walked out and went across the road to Rustica (who greeted us with a smile). He just stayed on his phone and said nothing as we left. I mentioned it to my friend’s boyfriend later as I was so miffed, and he said he’d had a similar experience.

Dude with the moustache poured the most bestest pint I’ve ever seen for the person ahead of me then poured me one ever better (though I thought this was impossible). Great experience, I hope I see him on bar more.

Amazing place, such a great atmosphere to come in and have some incredible food, whether brunch, midday or dinner. Good coffees, selection of beers and just generally lovely place to go. Plus dog friendly :)

Fantastic little bar with great beer and amazing food. We shared some salt & pepper wings, banana flower tacos and garlic & rosemary fries. Everything was delicious. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Will be returning with friends.

Come here loads for a coffee and to do work. The atmosphere is lovely during the day, and in the evenings it turns into a really nice bar where the drink selection is great. Definitely want to try the food at some point, but amazing spot would reccomend.

Chicken wings special is quite goods. Lots of beers to choose from. Chips are lovely. Can be a bit slow service. They do have quiz nights as they were preparing for that.

Although it states clearly on the site you can book a table we were told that they don’t do so. Food very good service friendly quite a lot of people on lap tops

Been here a lot over the years and have really enjoyed it. The girl that served me couldn't be bothered. It was too much trouble to look for slimline tonic her demeanor was the absolute opposite of what you would expect from this bar. The guy workin with her stepped in to help and was great. Stayed for one, will visit again and hope normal happy service is resumed.

No one knows a good breakfast better than me, and this was top notch. Had eggs and avocado with extra bacon, done crispy as requested. The missus polished off a veggie brek in seconds flat. All set for a day of drinking.

Nice laid back place to have lunch. Quick friendly service and food was lovely. Only thing would be nice if you could have some of the main dishes on the menu at lunch rather than just the brunch menu as they look lovely

This is such a great place to eat , me and my partner visited for lunch , amazing wings and grate platters available, highly recommend!

We had the vegan meze platter and some chicken wings. It was incredible and the wings were the best I have ever had! We will be back to sample the entire menu!

Looking for a place that served good vegan and non vegan food, I stumbled across this place. There was enough variety of things for vegans without the generic sweet potato or veggie burger options. My vegan friends chose an avocado mushroom burrito and a vegan mezze platter. Other dishes ordered were buttermilk chicken burger, Gnocchi, and cauliflower bites. Everything had amazing flavour and presented well, bar well varied and good service also dog friendly. The only thing was that the chicken was a little burnt, but other than that, a great experience for brunch

So/so food. Rude and unfriendly service - from possibly the owner (looks like Julian Barratt?) - nice to all other customers apart from us. Only difference is we arrived with our 4 year old and 6 month old. Both peaceful but he was unfriendly with us from the get-go. Seemed up himself. Don’t bother - food not even that good. No baby changing facilities either.

Food was nice, but service could be improved. We were given funny looks by two different waiters for saying we did not want any drinks yet and just need some time to look at the menu. They were within minutes of each other. A little friendliness and making people feel welcome goes a long way and makes the food taste nicer. I hope it was just them having an off human day and others get a better experience than I did.

Love this place, one of the few places on Burton road with more than one token craft beer. Only trouble is it’s quite small so you have to pick your times!

To be fair I only visited a few bars this trip but this was by far my favourite. Busy yet quiet, helpful and friendly staff and a fantastic selection of draft and bottled beers.

Half decent food let down by really poor service. We were served today by a guy dressed like 1950’s chimney sweep who (despite it being quiet in there) made us feel like we’d inconvenienced him by entering the place, barely spoke to us and looked like he hated life. Maybe because we interrupted his vaping and quality time on his mobile. Sorry about that pal, won’t happen again, trust me

Just tried the chicken wings and they are really good. Me and my wife shaired some Buffalo wings and the Salt and pepper chicken. We love this sort of food and it didn't disappoint.

We were looking for a quality and price bar restaurant, and this place was a amazing surprise for us!! If you go please order the chicken burger 🍔🐔 is the best one I never tried in my life for only £11. Another good thing is the table app to order is super intuitive and easy and the food came faster than I expected. I will come back 1000 times at least more. Thanks

I’ve been here a few times for drinks and enjoyed the experience. However, would not recommend for brunch. Not sure if they were just having a bad day and understaffed but it felt quite chaotic. Ordered a coffee & an orange juice but the orange juice never came. We then waited a very long time for a pretty underwhelming “loaded hash browns”.. it was fine, but there are much better options on Burton Road Someone on the table next to ours was given the wrong order. Lots of people waiting a long time for their bill. Etc.

Went this past Sunday (27/02), no one came to greet us, staff organisation was all over place, girl in the white Cardigan was incredibly stressed and it just made the atmosphere uncomfortable/hostile, it wasn't just me that picked up on this as another table came in, sat down, and then walked out after not getting served. Same waitress snarled at me because I moved dishes from my table despite apologising. Food was decent service was unfriendly and thus why the one star. Asked to get food packed up and other waitress didn't do it for us but did it for a table next to us? Very strange ended up doing it myself. Thought I'd give it a chance instead of the neighbouring Rustik but was let down big time. I feel bad giving a one star but I have to be genuine about my experience here at the end of the day. Edit: Also looks like others have also had problems with the brown haired waitress 😂

Ordered garlic mushrooms on sourdough with a poached eggs. Poor quality bread that I’m not sure even was sourdough and incredibly sparse ingredients…the mushrooms were strategically scattered on the toast and there was one egg between 2 slices. Won’t be returning.

I just called in for breakfast at mary and archies, it vastly improved my walk of shame. The loaded hash browns were bangin and the girl who was serving was beautiful inside and out. What a lovely place.

What the hell happened to the kitchen?! You clearly had an amazing, dedicated chef and evidently he has moved on (not sure it's by his own choice or theirs) either way the kitchen has gone drastically down hill since they left and i fear it's going to be the downfall of this place. It used to be that you could come and grab a good hearty breakfast at peak time, wiat no longer than 40 mins for a great meal with all the custom requests you wanted however now you have to expect to wait at least an hour and receive something you might not have even ordered. My advice to the owners is that kitchen staff are more valuable than you think...

Don't go to Burton Road without visiting Mary and Archies.

Wonderful little cafe. Breakfast was totally amazing. Very cool full breakfast inside a bread! They were very helpful and catered for my 6-year-old even though they have no menu for him. ( They did half price, half full breakfast for him) the coffee was also of good!

2018 review: Lovely atmosphere and good music playing. I highly recommend this coffee shop. 2022 review: Came back, was really looking forward to it but I ended up disappointed. The service has steeply decreased; the food was tasty but the poached eggs were too runny and it only came enough spinach to barely cover one slice of bread. The mushrooms arrived slightly cold to the table too... I have ordered a hot chocolate that was extremely hot and too chocolaty. I politely called the waitress and asked to swap my runny eggs for the missing spinach and also asked for a drinkable hot chocolate. The 2nd hot chocolate was much better, you have probably been wasting hot chocolate the way it that was served to me.... The waitress' attitude when I was asking to replace my poached eggs and hot chocolate wasn't the best, the waitress kept talking over me, excusing herself and not giving me the opportunity to talk; I had to shut up, look into her eyes and listen to her so she would stop talking. After I walked in 2 more tables walked in and I ended up being the last person to take the order from. I waited, hoping for the same amazing service I was used to in 2018 but it didn't happen. I'm really disappointed how it turned out to be, but hopeful that real feedback will improve the served standards. No, I'm not a posh person. Yes, I worked as waitress most of my life and I know good standards.

I came here on a busy bank holiday a bit after midday with my partner. After waiting for about 10 minutes and being ignored by the staff, my partner walked up to one of them (a young woman with short brown hair) to ask if there were any tables free/how long the wait would be for one. Instead of answering him, she shrugged and walked off without a word. We are reasonable people - we understood how busy the staff were - but that is no excuse for sheer rudeness. A simple 'give me a couple of minutes and I'll find out for you' or 'I'm sorry, I don't know' would have sufficed. We decided to just leave.

Good beer selection, food was good but nothing amazing. Burgers were fairly average however the loaded chips were very good. Good atmosphere for a small location.

The waiter with the moustache had an attitude when I asked a simple question about our food. He was just rude and it was uncalled for which is now what I will remember about eating here. Everything else was good, the waitress was lovely.

I go here all the time time all my friends. They do a vegan brunch and oat milk coffee. They have a rotating cast of really nice craft beers. The staff are all written into my will. If you go here and you don't like it then I have nothing to say to you.

Mary and Archie's is a staple of my Didsbury life before & after the pandemic. The food here is awesome, well seasoned, flavours are great, and good vegetarian options. Great atmosphere and reasonable prices for good portions and great flavours. I have eaten at most places on Burton road, and I keep coming back here! Best for casual lunch/dinner with drinks and friends!

I came in here a week or so ago with my friends for some cocktails. I was absolutely appalled by the lack of professionalism by one of the bartenders. He was dressed like he was about to go do a hotbox in a tent at some hippie festival. Not only that but he was eating a bowl of food in full view of the customers?!?! Is there no standards at Mary and Archie? The only positive was the young girl behind the bar - think she was called Billie? Really nice and friendly. Dressed like she was actually at work. Anyway - someone needs to have a chat with that 'bartender' and buy him a new set of clothes. This is Burton Road, Didsbury - people have high expectations when they enter these establishments.

The food here is so good! Best place around to go for good quality brunch. Lots of options and really good price too.

Came for breakfast with my girlfriend. After seeing a customer pack up her things and finish her coffee before heading to the bathroom, we moved onto her table to avoid the rain. We assumed she wasn't coming back to this table and we were correct. As we moved I heard the staff member from across the venue shout in frustration at having to sanitise the table and claimed she hadn't left and was only in the bathroom. He ran over and very aggressively wiped down the table next to us clearly very angry we had moved. I told him she had packed her stuff up so we assumed she wasn't coming back and apologised. His passive aggressive tone was incredibly rude as he claimed she had only gone to the bathroom and was clearly very angry at us when we only made a small judgment call to avoid the rain. An elderly woman then came over to him as he contiuned to wipe the table in anguish and he once again spoke in a very passive aggressive tone. She asked if she could have a drink and a teacake and the way he spoke to her when asking if she wanted a seat and that she couldn't have the one he was wiping down was appalling. We eventually got our full english's which were very good but we both felt so uncomfortable by the passive aggressive tone he took with us and the elderly woman that we just wanted to leave. He came back outside and for the final time in his aggressive, snarky tone said, 'You can move to this table now guys' referring to the one the woman from the start never returned to. We didn't respond as we were both in disbelief at his manner. We finished our food and I paid the bill with the other staff member who was absolutely lovely! As we left our mood was of real disappointment as the staff member's attitude towards us over moving tables ruined our breakfast out together. Me and my girlfriend both work in the hospitality industry so fully appreciate how difficult it can be especially at this awful time of Covid, however with both of us working in the city centre in far bigger venues, the staff members mood for a pretty laid back Wednesday morning service in a much smaller environment was out of order and no paying customer going out to have their breakfast shoud be subject to that kind of passive agressive tone. It was such a shame because other than that the food and coffee was great and so was the venue.

Good beer, friendly staff. Only criticism is beer choice doesn't vary often enough (and four lines were off, six off on friday) and the cans in fridge are eye wateringly expensive.

Fantastic food and coffee. Poor service. Seasoning on every dish was excellent. All in the small details ...a squeeze of lemon juice on the avacardo, chives on the perfectly poached eggs etc. Highly recommended for food. 👌👍 Unfortunately disheveled dude serving us was not quite as great... Looked like he'd rolled out of bed and didn't really care about anything. For this reason 4/5. So close!

There seems to be a proliferation of this type of café opening up within Manchester, I've been to around a dozen of them so far. Breakfast was not disappointing; in fact they have made the best pot of tea I've had to date. The breakfast was not what I expected but I ate the lot anyway. There is seating for over 23 people in a warm and cozy, music filled envelope of quirkyness. Update: Second visit today, Sunday 20th October 2019. Nothing disappointing whatsoever. Four stars today and I'm sure I could give five star after several more visits.
