I went to a fabulous supper club here, beautifully set table, delicious small plates of food and lovely service. The dishes were really creative, master chef standard, I must call out the pumpkin with white bean puree. The supper club setting is a great way to meet locals.

Vino a desayunar.

It is with a heavy heart that I shall not be returning to Marmelo Kitchen. I've had several brilliant brunches and evening meals there, but the place has completely gone downhill. At brunch today my boyfriend ordered the chicken. A very small quarter came out that was hot on the outside and stone cold in the middle. I tried a bit and immediately spat it out on my plate frightened of food poisoning. We told the waiter, and the chicken was taken away, to be replaced. We were amazed when the same bit of chicken - minus the piece I had spat out - was returned to us a few minutes later (presumably after being put in the microwave). It is incredibly dangerous to reheat chicken unless it has been completely cooled and then reheated - and I don't believe there could have been time for the chef to have put it in the microwave, turn it halfway, check the temperature in the middle with a thermometer and return it to our table in the few minutes the incident took. I asked the waiter to take the chicken away again saying we didn't want it. He was very apologetic, asked if we wanted anything else, we said we didn't, we would just share my meal. Then the woman who seemed to be in charge came over and without a hint of an apology said she thought we just wanted the chicken warmed up. I said it should seem obvious we would want a replacement. Unperturbed, she just said no problem (her meaning being as in, no problem we didn't want the reheated food that hadn't been properly cooked in the first place). Also worth noting that the fresh fruit juice is no longer squeezed fresh at the restaurant - our orange juice was nothing more than what you get from an upmarket supermarket - none of the froth that comes with freshly squeezed juice. The glasses are also very small at £2.50 each, the size has been reduced from what it used to be. Again, the coffees are much smaller - but still to die for, I shall miss them very much! My sausage and egg muffin was delicious, no complaints there, I really enjoyed it, and my only complaint was sharing it with my partner so he didn't go hungry. I want to make very clear that the young man who served us apologised several times about the chicken, acted in a most professional manner, and clearly understood why we were perturbed. The woman in charge really needs a refresh - or maybe a beginner's training course - in customer service. The risk of food poisoning is a very serious one, especially how popular the place is with young families and pregnant women! Marmelo Kitchen is now so popular that it's hard to get a table (good for them, but if you can't cope then reduce the number of tables), they run out of food on the menu within an hour or two of opening, and I feel very .sorry for the staff who are rushed off their feet and seem to be very badly managed. I've recommended this restaurant to dozens of people. I am now rectifying that with this review. There are lots of great places to eat in the area and new ones opening all the time. Try somewhere else which has the business capability to serve all covers with safe food, and has the humanity to apologise when things go wrong. Once again, thank you to the young man who served us who did his best to make it up to us. Hence our still leaving a tip. Needless to say it shall be my last visit to Mamelo Kitchen.

Can here on Sunday for a family birthday celebration. We all ordered from the Sunday roast menu. When the food came they brought half the tables orders but with no gravy and followed the rest of the tables order 20 minutes later. Finally giving gravy once all the food was cold. The veg was hard and not cooked well, the Yorkshire pudding were small under cooked. The meat was tiny. When we said this we were told ‘it’s the best we can do we are busy’. Which wasn’t the case there was only us and two other tables in there which were also complaining and very disappointed with there food however when they given more vegetables which seemed unfair. I order the veggie roast only to notice the table next to me that ordered the same had cheese on there pumpkin so they weren’t even consistent with the food they are serving. Absolute disgrace and not even an apology or anything done to the bill. Will never return.

My friends and I were excited to try out this lovely looking restaurant for brunch. We ordered 4x brunches and were told they had run out of certain ingredients and that we had to pay extra for the pleasure of choosing alternatives. 3x meals came out and was told they had run out of the ingredients for the 4th! One meal was missing the meat and was cold. they cobbled together a 4th meal from what was left in the kitchen and came out after my friends had finished their meals. We were then charged for all meals plus the extras we had to choose because they had run out of everything. There was no apology or explanation of why the kitchen had run out of stock at 12pm. I had to complain to get any sort of apology. Very disappointed.

I had the pleasure of dining at Marmelo Kitchen and was blown away by the exceptional food. The menu changes weekly and uses ingredients that are in tune with the season and chooses what is best offered from local suppliers. The atmosphere is clean and comforting, highlighted by the beautifully designed space. The light in the room is just right as the sun fades and then turns romantic with the various candles on the tables. The service was so warm, kind and quick. The servers and chefs go above and beyond to make their guests happy. I witnessed the chef going out of her way to melt chocolate for a hot chocolate because one of her guests felt like one. I would recommend this place to everyone I know. It is ideal for couples, friends, families, solo diners, strangers- everyone. Congratulations on one heck of a neighbourhood joint.

Absolute disappointment. Was excited to try this place after our favourite Kettle & Ryan closed their pop up on Francis road. Never have I paid so much for such a terrible meal. The food came out so quickly--a bad sign it turned out. To be fair, my mackerel was perfectly cooked but was set on a tiny bed of mushy beetroot which had apparently been cut much earlier (the cells lyse and degrade). My partners pork was unseasoned and bland, chunks of apple the only flavour. We were served raw green beans with a tomato sauce on the level of a tesco ready meal. The potatoes were the WORST potatoes I've ever had, they were so old (and not in a re-frying last nights potatoes delicious way, we're talking 3-4 days old) and mealy and yet also hard like leather and scraped my throat and were barely even aproaching warmed. We wanted to complain but no one ever checked on us, despite us being the only table indoors. I kept trying to make eye contact with the staff but they were busy chatting. Even when it came time to pay, no one asked how the meal was. Regret eating here, maybe it was an off night but we won't be back. Beautiful room though.

Marmelo is a very small restaurant, book ahead. The choice of the days dishes is on a blackboard and if you get in late it could be gone. Four of us went on a Saturday evening. Great atmosphere, really nice food, helpful staff. My only criticism is the wine - Organic wines are so hit and miss. Have some on your menu but please have a 'normal' wine also. I tried a white Rioja, unlike any Rioja I have ever tasted. Not unpleasant but not characteristic of the region. Then a second choice was an organic Sauvignon Blanc, same story.

// This is a new bistro-style restaurant that appears to serve food sourced locally or semi-locally. They put some effort into reinventing English food. Some of the dishes are quite interesting but others fall flat. We had the corn fritters which were airy and crunchy, hake (nothing to write home about), beetroot hummus (excellent), brill (nice sauce), baby turnips (the cheese-herb mix was good, but the turnips were bitter, meaning they were not baby or they were old) and lamb chops (nice, but one of them tasted old). The prices are low-ish, but the concept is to share a number of plates, so it can end up being about 30-40 pounds per person (including alcohol). The atmosphere is cozy with minimal decor, and there are shared tables out front, on a street with traffic calming measures and a virant community (kids playing in the street!).

En primer lugar si eres vegetariano o vegano. . I liked the place but I don't think I'll return because it got too noisy and cramped.

This was difficult to rate as for food I would give it 4 stars but for value it has to be a 3. I've been a couple of times for dinner and once for brunch. I live very near so it's ideal really. As others have said the menu is sharing plates of very tasty and imaginative food and changes regularly. However at about £8 a plate for 2 fish croquettes, 2 risotto balls or a piece of chicken makes it a lot more than something similar in, say, a tapas restaurant. We had 4 plates, 2 desserts, 2 glasses of wine and 2 soft drinks which came to £68 with a tip. Last week I ate in a 5 star hotel in the west end and a pre theatre meal for 2 with a glass of champagne came to £58.I am also not a big fan of shared tables and it's very noisy. But it's probably the only option with limited space. I would go back as it's so nice to have a local quality restaurant but I couldn't afford to go on a regular basis. However well done for helping to really improve the standard of this area of Leyton and that's a big positive.

I'm vegetarian and the only options were veg; no pasta, rice, pulses, grains or bread! Just veg. Dissapointing and reminded me of when i first gave meat up 25 years ago!!!! The meat and fish eaters were well catered for, although my husbsnd said his pork belly wasn't nice. The "bake" hadn't seen an oven which isn't right. We were seated at the bar looking watching the chef which was interesting bar the stench of flesh under my nose. I wouldn't go again and wouldn't recommend any veggies hoing for dinner, the salad lunches may be better. Shame.

I was lucky enough to be taken here for a meal, by a friend, as a birthday present. Marmelo Kitchen is a key part of the foodie revolution taking place in Francis Road, Leyton, E10.Just wander up the street and the smells coming from at least three places will make you very, very hungry.Marmelo is the jewel in the crown and offers amazing fresh food, sourced as locally as possible and cooked with love. You need to book. It gets very busy. My wonderful friend took me for Sunday lunch, Really, you should be so lucky as to have friends like mine. The meat - slow cooked beef - was utterly delicious. Plates of vegetables included outstanding roast potatoes and beautiful greens. We had excellent wine from a brief but beautiful list. I have never heard of any of them, but the red wine we had was terrific. I should hate Marmelo. I applied for a job there and had an interview in May. I thought it went well, but I never heard anything back, despite asking for feedback. Pity.Despite that, we both had a superb meal. I think this might be one of the very best Sunday roasts I have ever had. This place deserves to be very full, all the time. My big regret is that I can't eat here every day, as I could have if I had just got the job.Sigh. They do lots of catering for special events and if the food I had is any indication of the catering standards, it will be delicious. It's not cheap. The average meal is about £15. But it is worth it. I am drooling about the marrow, as I am typing. Check the opening hours. These are more limited than at other local places. But you owe it to your taste pubs to go there and have an amazing meal.

The food is pure class, service great, with a great relaxed feel that almost feels like you're eating at one of your friends houses (although the food is rather nicer!). So yeah the food. Everything on the menu is amazing. A couple of times have ordered the whole thing. Price wise I have seen some comments but I disagree, I think it's still good value and only natural that a place so popular and oversubscribed raises it prices a little. Supply and demand. We paid £60 for 5 sharing plates, a pudding and three glasses of wine! And that included a plate of beef, lamb and a whole fish! For food of its quality and quantity you might well pay double in central London. So keep it up team Marmello, it's bloody brilliant.

Was £13 for the rib - where you get 6 of them, and about £9 for six prawns. Both very tasty and well made but expensive for what you get, ends up being over £20 per person, essentially for 1 course as it's tapas style food. We love this place and always go as it is the only decent place to eat in the area. Food consistently excellent and a good atmosphere. Only quibble is that recently, prices have hiked, which is problematic when they're recommending 2-3 taster plates each- for example, a lot of the plates had jumped to £9-10, which is bonkers for some dishes, such as a single fish cake (it was delicious and a decent size but, still, £9 for a single fish cake??). We took friends, having raved about it, and then felt slightly embarrassed by how expensive it had got. The overall feeling was good food, but overpriced. Shame as it used to tick all the boxes. I guess they've got so popular, they're now just seeing what they can get away with.

This is a strange place set in a secondary road parade of shops. It's very small which just two large tables with probably a 24 maximum covers. Even then you have to share the tables with possibly a small gap between different parties. The menu is on the board and on the Thursday night five of us visited, you effectively chose dishes to share. These were intended for two people I suspect. It's rather like getting a series of large tapas dishes. Anyway the five of us ordered everything on the board and repeated the three or four we liked best. It's very cramped so service is a little problematic. However, the waitress was very courteous and the food was well prepared and tasty. I'm not sure this format appeals particularly to me because when you find something you really like, everybody else seems to get there before you. However, with more visits it will become easier to fine tune the ordering. I thought the wine was expensive for what is a very ordinary looking restaurant but that overall this was an interesting and unusual meal that we all enjoyed.

It was quite small, but the atmosphere was very nice.As it was Thursday, there was a selection of small plates to choose rom, which were written on the board. We ha to stand and read them, as there was no menu. One of my choices was aubergine with goat cheese and pomegranate: amazing! All the food was very nice and unusual, as the Smoked haddock pate.Overall a good experience, highly recommended!

This is a fairly small restaurant but they manage to accommodate around 30 diners by having 2 long tables seating 10 on each plus a few small tables and a bar area. The menu is on a blackboard, so I assume it changes often. You are recommended to choose 1-2 dishes each and share. Menu was varied and would suit veggies and carnivores. We were a party of 4 so ordered everything apart form 2 dishes. Everything was delicious apart form the slow roasted lamb - which should have been the highlight but was undercooked (not lightly pink) and very fatty. The waitress apologised but what can you do. It's pretty noisy with 30 diners in for dinner. Drinks menu included locally brewed beer.

My wife was told it would be fine to turn up with our young baby and his buggy when she booked us for Sunday lunch for my birthday. However an epic struggle ensued as we grappled with the narrow door and minimum of gangway and pee'ed off a roomful of squashed-in diners while we let the cold winds whistle round the restaurant... In the end we gave up, left the buggy outside at the mercy of the Leytonstone criminal fraternity (thankfully it wasn't nicked) and just carried the now-stressed infant inside. We would gladly have left the buggy at home and used the strap-on carrier had we known.Anyway onto the place - very "hipster" complete with tattooed chef, brick-tiled walls, craft beers and lots of beards. There were two roast options of shredded beef and chicken. These were served up with glazed veg, a huge Yorkshire pud and an amazing gravy. Tasted lovely though not quite piping hot - It was fast service so perhaps a lot of stuff is ready to go and heated up last minute? Not enough roast spuds - only two each(!!) - I love my spuds so this was disappointing. The desert of raspberry and apricot bread pudding was amazing - deceptively simple but great. The place was heaving with everyone side by side on long tables (seems all the fashion now though probably the best use of space in such a small space). This lent it a rather unrelaxed feel which wasn't helped by the over-loud and quite aggressive background music being played which made everyone have to talk louder. Maybe some people like that but I felt it didn't make for a pleasant atmosphere, good in a pub on a Friday night maybe but not Sunday lunch. I think it made the little'un a bit stressed too, who cried mostly while we hurried down our tucker.Service was brisk and a little harried but I suppose the waitress had a lot on her plate (no pun intended). All in all then great food but a little stressy, and advise caution in taking infants.

Love this little local independent gem. The roast dinner was fantastic quality. The service was warm and attentive even with the boss away, a great sign. The wine was fabulous, and the small touches like the great mint sauce was appreciated but...... 2 roast potatoes each? Oh dear. Asking the 2 of us to take two seats in the middle of a bench squeezed in between 2 parties, err no thank you, we'll just take that lovely space at the end there. And seriously people are allowed to bring their dog in?!!!!! It's a warm day and there's a free bench outside, knock yourself out. But a dog in a tiny restaurant, next to the cooking area? Well no pudding for us

Have visited a few times. Food has always been good - service a little patronising but worth it. Today we arrived at 11.05. Sat outside. I enquired with the barista if we should order inside - she said they'd come out to take it. Soon after a guy explained that they were fully booked for a hour. Fair enough ( although they had a whole table for 8 free at this stage but hey ho). We accepted coffee - to take out. 15 minutes later still no coffee. All this is just irritating but not enough to make me post a negative review. However being told that I didn't understand and I shouldn't come back again if I didn't like it certainly is. I won't return. Currently they have a monopoly - that will soon change. Perhaps their attitude will also at that stage.

I was very impressed by the food at this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed sitting at the counter to chat to the chef and watch him prepare the food. Every dish was delicious and 5 plates (which was more there enough for the 2 of us) with 2 glasses of wine and 2 beers was just £60. Definitely the best value for money meal I've had in a long time.

We have had quite a few roast dinners in the last few weeks in Leytonstone and Spitalfields and without a doubt this is the best place to have a roast dinner. It is so close to the perfect home cooked roast. We had the last roast chicken with mouth watering roast potatoes with drinkable gravy. I'm not sure were going to go anywhere else for a roast. Although we also want to try everything else on the menu.

We visited the restaurant with our 3 month old baby and some friends. The menu selection was excellent especially for me as a vegetarian. There was a good mix of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes that as a table we could share. In fact our main problem was choosing what not to order as they all sounded so yummy! The food was delicious and the service was great, my friend was allergic to fish, they were really knowledgeable about the ingredients and were able to monitor dishes so she could eat them. Our 3 month old son was welcomed into the restaurant at 7pm and fellow customers were friendly and excepting of him.We will definitely be returning soon, next time we might try the brunch menu which I hear is great!

Inspired by the reviews on Trip Advisor and in the local media I booked a table for 2 at Marmelo for a Friday night. The most pleasing & surprising thing about this restaurant is that it is where it is. It's a very trendy and welcoming restaurant amongst a row of less appealing take-aways, laundromats and small businesses. We live pretty close so I was aware of the area although I'm not familiar with Francis Road specifically. It's great to see a place like this spring up here, and be so popular. I'm really pleased that people are seeing the opportunities in Leytonstone and Leyton and investing here. However, saying all that, I wasn't overly impressed with the food. And definitely not the price, and I do wonder whether reviewers are marking higher due to the location. I have given 4 overall - I would say 3 for the food, and an extra point for the venue and the location. Although to be honest I feel that this is probably quite generous. The menu is on a chalkboard and changes daily, which is an idea I really like, but the dishes on the menu were a bit random. For example we ended up with a cold Spanish meat sharing plate, fish fingers and peas, courgette fritters and... a beef stew (the dishes are more complicated than these names make them sound but that is in essence what they are). All the dishes came together. The stew really didn't go with the other dishes. I know that was our choice and maybe we could have chosen better. The food was all very nice. Tasted freshly made and using good ingredients. I thought that a few dishes were over-seasoned and a bit salty, but so that they were inedible. My main gripe with the menu was that there was no bread, or potatoes, or rice, on offer, and the dishes may have had small amounts of carbohydrate included (like a small dumpling with the stew) but not enough for my liking. Overall, my favourite dish was the 'guinness chocolate cake' we shared for dessert. My boyfriend's favourite was the 'courgette fritters'. They were very tasty.I have no complaints with the service. It was quick, very polite and friendly, and very attentive. In total we had 4 dishes including the sharing plate, 2 beers and 1 portion of guinness chocolate cake between the two of us. We were satisfied but not totally full (I had some crisps when I got home). The bill came to around £55 without the tip. I think that's quite expensive for what we had.Overall, I's say it was a nice experience and glad we tried it. But probably won't go again.

Marmelo Kitchen is a local gem. The quality of the food is superb. The menu is seasonal and interesting. Families with very young children are very well catered for and made to feel very welcome. Young toddler tummys are given special consideration. There's no children's menu but staff can be flexible when catering for young children. The venue is uber cool and the seating/table arrangements are set out to encourage a community dining experience. It works! I've had many pleasant conversations with local folk at this place. The staff are perky, efficient and seem chuffed to bits to be working there.

I had dinner here on Saturday evening, and it was great. Lovely food, friendly staff, great interior design (gave me some ideas!), and I can walk home... But even if your not a local it is worth a visit. In fact scrap that, every table was full and luckily we booked, so maybe us locals should post terrible reviews so we can still get a table next week... Ok, everything was good, and the chocolate Guinness cake was just amazing. But be warned, they don't open every day so check opening times or book in advance.

Our first visit will not be the last. Great friendly team of staff who looked happy to be there serving us punters! Started with a spinach, mascarpone and olive muffin and a banana muffin - yum. 2 flat whites, which were tasty. Marmelo special of eggs Benedict with chorizo. Also avocado on toast with crispy bacon. Eggs tasted fresh and perfectly poached. Another flat white each and we were done. A great little local spot which is a great addition to the Leyton eating scene, long may it flourish. We'll be back! Thank you Natalie, well worth a visit but may be best to book in advance as it was busy!

My partner and I adored our evening at Marmelo kitchen. We sat at the bar were we could see all the fabulous food being prepared. We were told to treat the food like tappas and ordered a very tasty chicken dish, beautiful steak with bone marrow (so yummy!) Polenta chips and a butternut squash salad. The food was gorgeous! And speaking to the chef, everything is lovingly prepared and you could see he was very passionate about his creations. There was also a lovely American lady who made us feel so welcome. The place is intimate and cosy - make sure you visit! We can't wait to go back and experience what sounds like an amazing roast dinner on a Sunday....

Fantastic food - on Saturday nights they do sharing plates. All were delicious and the tapas style was brilliant. I love being able to taste a variety of meals. The oxtail arancini was a particular highlight. The drinks were reasonably price, although it's worth getting a bottle of wine if you might want two glasses as the glasses are small.

We waited with so much anticipation for Marmelo to open and we were not disappointed. Food is delicious. We went on a Friday evening and had a selection of small plates - everyone as good as the next. Need to get a date in to try the roast as I hear it is outstanding. Keep up the good work Marmelo.

Well worth the visit - tiny and best you have a reservation (or if it's one or two of you, hopefully there is space at the bar). Food is top notch (we had a delicious roast chicken for lunch, with best bruschetta ever as a starter), very well priced and big portions, service is homely and quality - couldn't rate it higher and will be back, Leyton needs more places like Marmelo!

This place has been mentioned so much on social media and recently in Time Out that I just had to visit. I was not disappointed. This restaurant is off Francis Road and away from Leyton Town Centre but is worth the trek as the food was delicious. I went on a Saturday night with a friend and was encouraged by the staff to treat the menu as tapas and sample 4 or 5 dishes. In the end we only selected 3 dishes (pork belly, goats cheese tart and smoked beetroot pasta) and a bottle of house red. All of which were tasty especially the pasta! I have been told that they serve great brunches and roast dinners. I particularly want to try the roasts as there aren't many places in Leyton that I am aware of that serve roasts besides the Technical pub. I would definitely go back as it is great to have a really good restaurant on my doorstep. At the beginning of the evening, Marmelo was quiet with only one other couple enjoying their meal.By the time we left, the place was packed and buzzing with many Leytonians waiting for a table and who can blame them, this place is great!

What an experience - A six course Latin American taster in a refurbished 1967 Victoria tube train that was amazing. From the unique environment to the authentic food made by the Head chef, Beatriz, who explained her inspiration and heritage for each of the dishes. Each plate was beautifully presented without the pretentious nonsense, layers of flavours and textures, which left you wanting more. Service by our waiter, Chris, also added to the overall experience too, which just made it even more special. Food and drinks flowed with ease throughout the evening, as lasted about 2.5 hours. Easy to get to and parking nearby was free after 6.30pm, so safe walking to and from in the dark.

I ordered fish and chips and a kebab portions were vast ,would have one fish and chips for two people . Curry sauce thick and gloopy, mushy peas ok. Had to construct kebab myself, pitta not cooked and dry foil container with meat salad in a plastic container and two tiny containers of chilli sauce and garlic sauce. They didn’t ask me what sauces I wanted or salad and just gave me it all in a bag even though I was standing there waiting for twenty minutes, so fish and chips good but vast , kebab dry and diy, I don’t live in London so was a bit surprised at £40 bill, I did order medium portions .
