Very good food at reasonable prices, good selection of vegan and non vegan options. The staff are always professional and "no nonsense" and I am always surprised by how fast the service is

Our food took over 2 hours to arrive. When we ordered it was advised it would be 45-75 minutes for delivery. They did not contact us to advise there was any delay. After 90 minutes we called and were advised the order had not even been cooked yet. Appalling service. When the food did arrive it was very mediocre. I will not be using them again and would not recommend.

Honestly the food here slaps. Problem is twice now I've ordered and got the wrong stuff (it was still good)

Worst chinese ever, don't waste your money, chow mein so salty it was inedible. Chips were just snaps of potato, chicken over cooked, batter on fish undercooked. The order went in the bin. Only positive was early delivery. The repetition is has isn't true wouldn't feed it to the dog!

Delivery was fast - been ordering from marlings for around two years now and I have to say unfortunately tonight was probably the weakest. Food quality was not up to standard - it seems they have changed the vegetarian beef they use which isn't as nice as the previous mock one. What made me write this review however was their ginger and onion chicken. Last time we ordered (last month) it was a dry dish consisting of mostly white onion and chicken, with a really pleasant ginger taste. This time it seemed they had mixed in the lemon sauce they use for their lemon chicken (which I don't like) and just completely ruined the dish. There's leftovers and I'm still hungry but I don't really feel like eating more of it. Even the quality of their chow mein seems to be below average tonight. Hopefully it is a one off. Unfortunately completely put off of their ginger and onion dish which I thought had become our new must when ordering. Will be a lot longer before I order from there again.

Delivery was fast, food was nice but the satay had no flavour and the chow mein came with udon noodles which seeemed odd. Not the worst not the best.

I have ordered from marlings for over 10 years. I don't know if they are under new management or what but they always seem to either mess up the order, take over an hour even up to two hours for chips/egg fried rice, a main and curry sauce which if busy understandable but it's become a common thing. The customer service over the phone isn't polite, professional and understanding it's instead semi-rude, contradictory this when you total up the order and they overinflate the prices and don't expect customers to break down the costs. The food is nice when the order is correct and the female delivery driver is always absolutely lovely but they really need to start delivering a better overall will lose long-term customers.

Food is always great and value for money. Delivery is quick and easy to order.

Order special curry with egg fried rice first time was nice but the second time I ordered the some thing it wasn't has nice it had quite a runny sauce and the onions were not quite cooked I would order it again I've had better but I've also had worst

The best Chinese takeaway in Bristol. Always excellent quality and quick for collection. So many great vegan and vegetarian options too (mock duck, mock prawn, mock chicken etc) they are great for customising - as don't like onion and they are always happy to follow my request of leaving them out. If possible make sure you pay cash and direct to the business as it's the best way to support them 😄 thanks marlings

Thought we'd try their vegan options. It's great to see so many, though I'd say they were just OK overall. Our satay mock chicken didn't seem like satay and may have got mixed up with another dish. The fried rice appeared to contain egg, which was not stated in the menu.

I love this place. In fact, Marling's will always hold a special place in my heart. I was over the moon to discover that there was a chinese takeaway which did vegan food in Bristol. I think I must have ordered from this place over 15 times. The vegan chicken balls are beautiful little crispy battered spheres of deliciousness. They satisfy a craving I didn't even know I had. The chips never disappoint, and when everything is piled up into a miscellaneous mountain of deep fried yumminess, and sprinkled with crispy seaweed, drizzled in sweet and sour sauce, you know you're in for a good evening 🙏 The owners are also sound x

My friend and I really enjoyed the food from here. Good portions and super tasty food. I didn't telephone ahead but there wasn't too long a wait to be served or receive my food. It was busy on the Friday at around 19:15. Will go again as it is my local chinese. Excellent options for vegans and vegetarians alike (including tofu and mock meat). Cash only though - worth remembering.

3 hour wait for delivery!! Amazing food and great vegan options but don't order if you are hungry! Had to chase multiple times and they weren't able to provide any update on when it would arrive.

Almost anything on their menu can be ordered with vegan alternatives. Can't wait to order again and work my way through the full menu! Incredible food EDIT: Have made several orders here and have been very happy each time until today. We were given real chicken this time which is really disappointing. When ordering vegan chicken balls make sure you recieve round small ones rather than long ones

2 hours and still waiting for food, rang up twice to chase this up. Not good enough from a customer experience point of view. No reconciliation for this wait either as a regular customer i will now avoid Marlings in future.

Had a takeaway from Marlings in years, but will not be having one again in the furture. We ordered the home-style food and it had not been what I expected no spice, all bland and watery no taste at all and had a cheaper version of meat products tasteless... Must have changed management.. Food was late and warm, prawnsrawn crisp.. Sorry but I paid good money for the food that I had to throw away and get Macdonalds..

Nice people and food tastes great but delivery charge is extortionate if you don’t live within spitting distance and for a restaurant that specialises in vegan food, they gave me meat by accident twice! I won’t be fooled a third time. Notice they just got a 1 star hygiene rating, probably to do with meat/vegan mix ups

Love this place so much. We're vegan and gluten free, they always phone us when a dish can't be made gluten free and give us a selection of options and work arounds, offering different types of floor or fake meats. Very considerate. A really great place for anyone worried about the restaurant catering to dietary requirements. Highly recommend this place!

This place is the best Chinese in Bristol. We've been ordering from here for two years and it's always equally delicious. More Tofu dishes on the menu would be nice, the only thing find missing is that Tofu is not an option with any of the mains when ordering online

The vegan options here are pretty great, but China Capital on Gloucester Rd (Filton) is even better!

I was not very keen with the taste of my food at Marlings I think it had something to do with the oils that was used

Ordered for the first time and will def be going back. Food was absolutely lovely, the meals were great value for money...so much food we couldnt eat it all. Easily the best chinese we have had in years.

The people who run it are friendly and if you are particular about what you eat they are accommodating. It's a fair price for a hearty meal and I eat loads.

Absolutely gutted, usually have a really good experience with this place, food is always amazing and so nice to have so many vegan options, but last night the food took over an hour and a half to arrive, phoned after waiting one hour, and was very rudely told it was nothing to do with them and was the drivers fault. The place is only a 5 minutes drive away from my house but the food was cold and so had obviously been with the driver a while! While this may not be the fault of marling, the rude way in which they spoke to me was certainly not appreciated!

The food wasn't that nice the rice was dry and meat over cooked.

A great Chinese to try for the veggies and vegans, as most dishes can be made with mock chicken, pork or duck. Everything was tasty and enjoyable, but I was surprised to see that our mock duck in plum sauce was just some duck in a tub and a pot of sauce. No veggies or pineapple but it was lovely in any case What did upset us a little was no prawn crackers were given on our £25 order. I guess they weren't advertised or anything, but would have been nice to have and definitely would have given that extra star

Without a doubt, the best option for vegans when ordering a Chinese takeaway! They do meat/veggie/vegan. Most meat dishes can be substituted for a sietan alternative and they do it well. I'd thoroughly recommend the vegan chicken and black bean sauce and vegan chicken fried rice. The vegan chicken chow mein is awesome too. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you Marlings!

No complaints good food lots of choice

Best Chinese in the area (including st George and redfield) wish I found this place sooner as all the other in the area are really poor. I had beef and black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, chicken chow mien, fried rice. satay beef and chilli chicken wings. Couldn’t fault any of it. You can tell all was made with fresh ingredients with big chunks of veg. Not greasy. Great customer manner on the phone also. Huge thumbs up

Great vegan mock meats, however if you order vegan meat options it comes with only that and sauce. I was expecting some veg in it too.

Almost Three stars instead of two and the only reason it's not one is because the staff were very warm and helpful, the menus clear and they are very proactive towards vegan foods. However.. the food itself was lackluster to just bad, the ingredients were easily detectable as largely condiment based rather than actual spices, herbs, etc. Both my wife and myself are ending the night with stomach aches, we could barely eat half of each dish we tried despite the stingey sized portions, because the food was either so oily we thought it had been dumped out of a deep fat fryer or so bizarrely and clumsily spiced it left us struggling to eat it. We wanted so badly to leave a positive review given all the effort they've made to accommodate vegans but that was let down by more than just the food we ate being poor, I was told the vegan prawns are charged at 80 pence PER VEGAN PRAWN?!? The vegan meats used were also largely the cheapest of the cheap rehydrated soya chunks, there were a very small number of pieces of vegan chick'n which were not the same sub standard soya chunk trash but for the price we expected better, to be clear, if each dish had cost £1.50 more we would still have ordered there and I would hope have received what you could call good plant based meats in our meals. That would not excuse the undeniably sub par cooking, and who knows what else that has caused supposedly plant based food (from which it is extremely difficult to get food poisoning) to give two people one of whom who has a practically lead lined stomach, to have stomach aches. Not just disappointed, dissatisfied and dismayed but in physical pain from eating here! Would not recommend until their ability in the kitchen matches up to their really lovely and friendly attitude.

Great vegan options, love the vegan prawns, salt & pepper squid or aubergine, sauces are generally pretty good, though satay was a bit weak and watery, everything else was incredible. Never had so many good vegan options before.

Amazing vegan food!!! After a long hard decision on what to chose from their extensive menu I had the crispy chilli beef, Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and sesame shrimp was all delicious can't wait to go back and try something different

Ordered food. Turned up late. Squid in Chilli Salt which is meant to be dry and crispy was soggy and over cooked. After first bite realized it was gone off. Duck was terrible also. Nearly inedible. When we called to complain they just said the squid was as fresh as they could get it. No offer of any refund. Won't be eating here again.

The vegan food is unreal. We actually made the mistake of complaining to the Resteraunt as we believed it to be meat. It was so so so good. Sorry for wasting your time!

I really love this place. They're getting a lot more popular so delivery time is a bit longer but they make sure to put that in the info so no surprises. Absolutely love the vegan chicken balls!! Also the Chinese curry is delicious. I would suggest not to to order the satay as the sauce is super runny and nothing like what satay should be but all in all the rest of the food is delightful!

Dissatisfied, apparently chilli's cost too much so they can't make food spicy. Also chips tasted as if made the day before.

An excellent Chinese takeway - and everything can me made vegan! The simple idea of including meat alternatives for any dish completely opens up the menu for veggies/vegans. It's great to be re-acquainted with favoutrites from my meat eating days like Hoisin Duck Pancakes and Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls

Absolutely amazing food! I ordered vegan versions of sesame prawns, black pepper beef, chicken satay skewers, Tom yum soup and the salt and pepper aubergine. All were fantastic and I can't wait to order again! I've never had such good vegan takeaway 💚💚💚 Thanks so much, my belly is so happy 😂

Just around the corner from me.Very unassuming place, but friendly people, really comprehensive menu, they do vegan everything - and are genuinely allergy aware and competent (we have a child with multiple severe allergies so any food we don't prepare can be a nightmare). Couldn't ask for more.

Ordered a takeaway for delivery for three people on a saturday evening. It arrived within half an hour and was piping hot. The sesame prawn toast was hot and crispy. The chicken ginger and onion was full of flavour but not overpowered by the ginger. We also ordered beef with vegetables, duck chow mein and house special fried rice which were delicious, the beef dish was tender the chow mein was not at all greasy like other takeaways and the rice was generously served with pieces of beef chicken and pork. There was enough for another hungry person generous portions. Very good vfm given the quality amount of good and speed of delivery. Highly recommended!

Ordered from here last week beef curry and special curry i had beef curry so sweet it was disgusting i was told this was a great place really could not eat it never again

5 stars! Delicious vegan Chinese options. Went for the Sweet and Sour 'Chicken' balls, Mushroom Rice/Chips with Curry sauce (half and half) and it was fab. Order was perfect even though they were clearly in the middle of a busy period - easy to order with a timed collection via the website.

Initially I left a great review for this restaurant. However tonight they took our money and confirmed a 7pm delivery. It’s now 8:30pm and no food. They won’t answer the phone.

So tasty! So happy I’ve found somewhere that can do gluten-free, veggy food and that can deliver to BS4. Delivery was great too. Website is hard to use on your phone though only thing that’s was annoying.

I have to say it continually blows my mind the amount of delicious regular Chinese takeaway dishes Marlings can Veganize. They are my favourite go-to takeaway in Bristol and their crispy duck pancakes are on another level. If you're looking to wow non-vegan mates with what the future of food looks like, go for these guys. Particularly recommend chilli squid, and as mentioned the 'duck' pancakes. 😍

Ordered our first meal from here this evening for delivery. Lovely, one of the best Chinese meals I’ve had from a takeaway in the UK. We went for several dishes with mock meat in as my girlfriend is vegetarian and it was superb. A very good meat substitute. We will be ordering again I’m sure. My only other comments would be that delivery is quite expensive at £5.50 (though this is offset by reasonably priced food) and that you should pre-order where possible (they can be quite busy leaving you to wait a while). Neither stop me from thinking they deserve 5*.

The variety of vegan options is amazing so I don't want to put people off. However, we just waited over two hours for our food to be delivered and it was cold, luke warm at best. Some of the dishes were also not as good as they used to be although the chow mein was a lot better. It costs over £5 for food to be delivered though so on the whole very disappointed with the awful service. Pretty much ruined our Friday night which we spent hungry and angry. I will definitely think twice before I order again. Which is a real shame because this place used to be amazing and a real find. I recommend that if delivery is delayed this much offer a refund of some kind!

Best vegan options in a Chinese ever!

Never thought I'd ever be able to eat chinese takeaway again, and finding this place was an absolute game changer. Sooooooo yummy, will certainly be trying more of the vegan options again. Highly recommend!!

I was charged £5.50 for delivery But the menus says £1.50, the “king prawn“ chowmein was covered in a black garlic sauce making the noodles dark and discoloured, the prawns had been replace with some sort of fake fish stick in the shape of a prawn! The chicken balls were so hard they nearly broke my teeth and hardly contained any chicken! Very disappointing. Will not be ordering from here again.
