‘This is not just a Wedding Breakfast……this is an M&S Wedding Breakfast’ A very big thank you to M&S Cafe and all their staff today in Exeter. We popped in after our wedding for a quick cuppa with our parents and all the staff were so kind and attentive. Thank you to all of you for making our special day a little bit more special. Also a big thank you to all the wonderful customers who took the time to congratulate us.🙏🏻❤️xx

Terrible service, l had to get some food in the food hall down stairs and this was at lunchtime and they also only had two gluten free sandwiches too offer. Come on marks and Spencer’s pull your socks up …….

Very disappointed to be honest. Myself & a friend had purchased lunch in the food hall & wanted to eat this in the Cafe with purchased drinks. Blimey, you’d have thought that we had committed a crime! We sat outside & within less than a few minutes a lady came over to us & told us that we couldn’t eat food there unless it was purchased from the Cafe itself. My friend explained that she needed to sit down as she felt very unwell & that we would go & order something shortly. This lady was not too happy but accepted what we had said. Within another ten minutes of this happening, another lady came over (this time a younger person) & was really quite rude. She told me & my friend that we couldn’t eat our food hall items there because we weren’t paying VAT on it… I explained to her that we had just purchased a drink & I was about to go & purchase something else but she then said that we could finish our drink & have a ‘last bite’ of our food & then we’d have to put it away! It’s just… a bit rubbish to be honest. It was just the whole attitude of both staff members. I understand the situation with the VAT but come on… telling us that we needed to put our food away but we could finish the drink? It’s just a bit pathetic. I was so cross that I continued to eat my food hall lunch & thoroughly enjoyed it! The Colin the Caterpillar drink that my friend had was delicious though! Overall, the whole situation was unnecessary. If we had whipped out food from Lidl or some place else then I could understand it but you must really be bored to pounce on people like that so quickly for something so minor. No one died, just calm down!

I sat down with my coffee only to find a very rough table surface. Many small areas were lifting. I cannot see how it can be cleaned to ensure it is hygienic. The Master Barista started making my coffee. The assistant walked away. Another customer came & he asked what she wanted to drink. He then ignored my coffee, made her drink, gave it to her & then went back to preparing my coffee. I waited longer for my coffee. This was not as case of efficient multi tasking.

My wife & I ordered 2 cream teas. Unfortunately, they’d run out of strawberry jam - all they had left was one pot of raspberry jam and one pot of marmalade! My wife, feeling adventurous, had the marmalade and I had the raspberry jam. It wasn’t as bad as I expected. The tea was nice too.

Disappointed. Ordered Eggs Benedict. The Englush muffin was barely toasted. I waited a reasonable length of time for it, certainly enough time for my table to be cleared. It wasn't. The person clearing them was very slow and made no attempt to clear my table. Not acceptable to have others used items in the table. Frankly most M&S cafes operate this way. I'm going elsewhere in the future

Popped in for a decaf coffee but they didn't have any so tried a decaf tea with soya milk. Probably one of the worst cups of tea I've ever had. Loads of cakes but only one vegan option which I didn't fancy. Considering this store is starting to do ok with vegan options in the shop, I was staggered by how far behind the cafe is. Surely M&S must have an environmental policy that ensures they offer more planet friendly plant based options.

We visited this cafe yesterday for coffee and fancied maybe a scone or bacon roll or even just some toast & jam. We were told there was no GF breast but we could have a GF roll ( sold separately) and bacon brought out on a plate. We opted for this as no other apparent option. The roll was like concete, the bacon was nice.. but basically i was charged £4:50 for a couple of slices of bacon as the roll was inedible. Come on Marks & Spencer!!!! You can buy in GF bread… not all GF people are coeliacs!!!! Options should be there. I probably won’t visit again totally inadequate.

Slow service in the cafe today. Took ages for my toastie to arrive (which only needs a couple of minutes to reheat as its already partly cooked). It wasn't very busy when I arrived but people did quickly start coming in after me and there were people being served their food before me, that arrived after me. The ladies were doing their best but they looked quite stressed. It normally quite good so shall presume an off day.

The coffee was strong and bitter not nice at all. A most awful morning I won't be going back.

22oct 2022 , main Exeter branch restaurant. Just gone 12 noon very busy . Queued for a few minutes , staff member on till took order ,polite and helpful explained wait of 15/20 mins which I said fine. Two members of staff (management/supervisors) were delivering food as quick as possible with a smile . When our food arrive the lady (black and white dress) apologised for the delay and offered us a free coffee. The food arrived in the time I was told and was upto normal high standard. After a disastrous visit to boots in Torquay on Thursday it was lovely to have such amazing service.

I have visited many M&S cafes in many locations over the years and on a family day out decided to have lunch at this location because i have always been impressed by the food and the service. Not this time! Having queued for a good 10 mins i decided to try the fish finger ciabatta with chunky chips and a cappucino. When i finally got to the counter to place my order i was told there were no fish fingers so i decided on oak smoked bacon only to be told `nope none of that either`. When i asked what they did have i was told i could have a sausage ciabatta as that was all they had. Having paid for my items i sat down and waited to be called for my coffee. After 5 mins my daughter went to counter to ask if my coffee would be long only to be told it had been sat on the side since she made it. Having carried my coffee to me it had to be instantly returned as the rim of the cup had a thick layer of lipstick on it. Was a fresh one made? No.It was just poured from one cup to another. After an eternity my ciabatta arrived. I have never seen such a small roll in my life with what looked like 2 tiny sliced in half chipolatas, not sausages in it. I waited in the hope my chips would not be long but after another 5 mins and still no sign decided to eat the roll before it got too cold. As i lifted the roll to my mouth and went to take a bite all i could smell was rancid meat. I thought i would take a small taste just to be sure and spat it straight back out again. By this time and still with no chips insight we gave up and left having eaten and drunk nothing. This cafe is a disgrace to the M&S name and looking at reviews it has been for a long time. Staff had no communication skills, the food was vile and we certainly will advise anyone we know that are going to Exeter to avoid it like the plague. M&S you should be ashamed.

I have no idea who designed this cafe but they have no diea of the problems facing a queue of customers on a busy lunchtime. The counters do not join up so that when there is a queue you have to hold your tray until you reach the next one before you can out it down. The cold food is miles away from the queue so if your on your own, if you give up your space to grab a sandwich or cols drink the chances are you have lost your place. The coffee machine was broken. There was only 3 members of staff one taking orders, one making drinks and one taking out hot meals from the kitchen. I stood there for over 20 minutes holding a tray, how the elderly manage I have no idea. The cafe was so cold I had to put my coat back on.

There didn’t seem to be anything I could have but Marie offered for me to get something from the shop floor if I wanted and said it was good to learn of the need for dairy free and would feed it back.

We have tried to get two takeaway coffees recently, once yesterday and once the week before. Yesterday the queue at 11 am was out the entrance, so we decided to do some shopping and try again about 15 minutes later. Still the same congestion so we gave up. On the previous time they had no lids for the large beakers, so had to make do with mediums. Not a good experience and bearing in mind the amount of competition from other places in Exeter sad to report about M&S.

Went shopping yesterday in Mark and Spencer. They always have nice clothes. on offer. But still recovering from trent at xmas. After a good look round needed a coffee. This store did not disappoint. Good selection on cakes. The coffee shop was a bit busy but worth the wait.

Warm undercooked food is potentially dangerous. Our jacket potatoes had been precooked to death. Tough a a rhino hoof. And less appealing. But not heated through. Chalky tasteless. Beans warm just. Salad poor dull limp. Staff stressed to a dangerous state of aggression. Can't understand why marks with its high food store quality has failed to capitalise on a captive market. It's a deeply unpleasant experience. And this is not my first time in this particular establishment.

After queuing for quite a long time I ordered 2 soya lattés to be told they were out of soya milk. I then asked for a choice of teas, peppermint being one of the choices. I asked for this and was then told they had also run out. I haven't a problem with them selling out but they need to put a sign up before wasting people's time with queuing. I doubt the manager would be as satisfied with themselves running out of cows milk.

First time I've been in here and I thought it was very nice , it was very busy , waitress not even having time to clear tables between customers . It was a little pricey but lovely, I had mince pie and brandy cream and my mum had a fruit scone and a pot of tea for two , total was £9

After a lengthy wait in the queue, we were served by a friendly member of staff and ordered our afternoon tea. The selection was good and good value for the money. We would visit again!

Took my son down to Exeter to visit friends so took the opportunity of afternoon tea, me and my friend are fast becoming the experts on a good afternoon tea, and I have to say this one is not far from the top of our most enjoyable, priced very reasonably at 16.00 for afternoon tea for two we were not disappointed, sandwiches were soft and flavoursome , secrets were plentiful and satisfying and topped off with beautifully cooked fruit scones jam and fresh cream we could not have asked for more, two pots of tea with enough for 3 cups each , m&s u need to hamper these up and sell them ready to go in your food outlets x amazing

Not our first to this Café and we hoped lessons maybe have been learnt, sadly no is the answer, first the flooring has tape running over cracks in the floor covering, secondly the drinks only service till, now appears totally mothballed, no doubt due to insufficient staffing levels. We found the place to fairly empty, but again tables had gone without clearing for many hours and it was noted the half hearted approach being taken by the member of staff now engaged in clearing up. Only one member of staff was behind the counter serving and two people were queuing in front of us, what a disorganised way of working, everything took an age to do and that included providing the person in front of us with a pot of tea. Even selecting and placing a slice of cake on a plate for customers was made in to a major operation. We tried the St Clements Cake, not many slices out of it, so not on display the whole day, but sorry very dry and of little taste or substance for the £2.85 being charged for it. Opted just for sandwiches in the belief ordering anything hot would take an age to be served. After we sat down, other people can in to find nobody serving, so they walked out without making a purchase. On using the toilets we could both smell and see they had not been cleaned for hours, a look on the record sheet, showed the contract cleaners last checked on them some four hours earlier. Management were informed however they continuous talking amongst a group of three of them about their forthcoming holidays had total priority in their minds, not interested in the state of the toilets or the fact M&S with our money were employing cleaning contractors who were not fulfilling their contract. The prices now being charged for food and drinks in this Café are no longer justifiable given, the service levels and quality of the products on offer. This Café lacks any real ambience and projects a very dull image.

The café at M&S used to be a firm favourite but has really gone downhill. Coffee like dishwater and extortionate prices for poor quality hot snacks. Cakes are ok but expensive in comparison to other high street coffee establishments.

Popped in for a coffee and a sandwich. Both were fine but when my wife went to the toilet , the cubicle door was hanging off and the floor was covered in urine. When she reported it to a supervisor , he seemed quite unconcerned and not at all grateful to be warned of a serious hazard.

A packed Friday lunchtime with hardly a table to spare. Long wait for a mere soup that looked good but was small in quantity and very bland tasting. Cappuccino likewise when asked was it normally this weak was told that as it was a small (but quite large even so) and therefore had only one shot of espresso and tasteless froth on top. Sorry but I am used to a proper Italian cappuccino and this was a million miles away. Will try Dingles or john lewis in future!

Popped in after a bit of shopping. Good to see the tables cleaned quite regularly and both the coffee and the food (sandwiches and cake) were most enjoyable. Spectacular? No. Just waht we needed at that time? Absolutely!!!

The food is what you can buy in the food hall in other words ready meals, sandwiches, soups, toasties etc. Had Cumberland Sausage toasties, nice and tasty. Service wasn't quick, considering it was only prepacked toasties was disappointing. Coffee was good, clean and tidy but dull decor. Was quiet (Sunday Lunchtime) so for once could get a table by the window. Would visit again, but menu will always be the same.

There is limited outside seating. The menu is quite varied and the meals, snacks and drinks good value. However this is always very busy and sometimes there are queues. Service is usually quite quick though. There can be a wait for tables and for them to be cleared. If you have an M & S card the added bonus is it adds to your points total.

Generally the staff & service is fine. The issue I have is that the tiles on the floor in the small balcony area are at the moment not fixed in position & can move. The result can be one or more gaps. A while back my chair leg disappeared into one such gap. I mentioned it at the time. At a more recent visit I noticed another gap had appeared in the same area. These gaps are sufficient for a chair leg to drop into. I suspect the gap could be a problem for a high heel on a shoe or a walking stick. I think there is an accident hazard there & I look forward to the store ensuring such does not happen.

We always go into M and S for a coffee and croissant when we are in Exeter. Yesterday was disappointing. Firstly all the croissants etc were on open plates on the counter so close to everyone walking by and breathing(and possibly coughing) all over them. We tried to take one from the bottom!Surely they should all be covered as they are in the Willows store in Torbay. The tables were not being cleaned properly by the staff and they didn't seem to notice rubbish on the floor.I know we will go back as we have Premium Club hot drinks vouchers! I just hope there will be some improvement in their hygiene standards.

Why oh why is the cafe in the Exeter store so dreary and depressing? Other M&S cafes are bright with some stylish furnishings and decent layout. Not this one. We only decided to make use of it because we had been to the excellent in store bank and it was raining heavily. How disappointing. The dreary weather was in keeping with the weary sad cafe. Also it was so cold. WHY?Do M&S bother to listen to customers? The store itself has benefitted from a major facelift and the cafe now looks even worse. The sandwich and drinks were okay but there are plenty of more welcoming places in Exeter.M&S have a food outlet at Exe Bridges and the cafe is bright and modern so why not in the town centre store?

Unfortunately the Tiverton store was very poor, 1. At 12.00pm 75% of bakery goods still baking and on trolley waiting for packing, shelves quarter full. 2. Either they had no staff turn in or what , but the shelves needed filling. There where cages of boxes everywhere. 3. The cafe was madness, tables completely full of dirty plates etc. Uneaten breakfasts left, trolleys of trays waiting to be taken in for washing up, the hygiene standards where terrible, no cups, coffee machine empty, no milk, display all messing , I saw one 2 members of staff, again they must of been short staffed. I spoke to a manager and he bluntly told me morrisons have cut back on staff , so customers would have to accept it Unfortunately. Very sad.

We heard The White Hart was under new ownership so we came along for midweek lunch - it was great! We were warmly greeted by a kind lady behind the bar which had lots of ale, lager & cider choices. We ordered the daily special with a drink which for £12 was great value. The Cod & Chips and Scampi were exactly what you’d expect from a country town pub grub - well worth the money. The desert of STP was also lush. We’d definitely recommend this pub for a great quality and great value midweek lunch. We’ll come back for Sunday Lunch soon.

I am thrilled that you are getting back up and running. I've had so many relaxed and friendly hours in the cafe with friends that I am looking forward to more accompanied by a fab nut roast and side salads fit for a queen. Airy and plenty of space (unlike other cafes that cram as many in as they can) so it feels very Covid safe even without have to make big changes.
