Marks and Spencer Cafe in South Gloucestershire

After a late-morning visit to a local cinema, it was well-gone 14:00 when the film ended. We were hungry for a snack lunch and wanted something quick, and nearby. This branch of M&S (with a café) is only a short drive from the cinema. We were able to park easily in the capacious carpark (maybe ‘carpacious’). So, we were soon ordering two smoked-bacon sourdough rolls each with a large cup of Americano Coffee (with hot milk). The ‘Senior Barista’ offered us miniscule jugs of hot milk, not even enough to make a small coffee suit. So, we asked her if the hot milk could be poured directly into our cups, and this was done. I did get the distinct impression that the lady in question seemed not particularly happy to oblige us. Certainly the quantity of milk, we did have, would have easily filled six of the ‘miniscule’ jugs. Maybe there was a cost implication? We would, however, have been happy to pay extra. Food is cooked-to-order and delivered to tables, so were given a tall plastic sign (like a single-fold birthday card) to display on our table with a number ‘26’ on it. This just would not stand-up, and I had to bend the sign along the fold to narrow the angle to make it do so. Our coffee was not-so-great; it lacked the bitter caramel flavour that we look for. Do not assume that was due to the quantity of milk; as we have similar ratios of milk to coffee at home and in other cafés, without losing the flavours we look for. Our bacon rolls were great; hot, plenty of good smoked-bacon, and a fresh sourdough bun. Just what we wanted, especially as we had found-out where the brown sauce sachets were kept (by the kitchen servery).

This place has gone seriously downhill. There are few options at this retail park for refreshments but M&S is such a let down. There is always a queue due to the slowness of the staff on the till and the barista. The food looks appetising on the menu board BUT it's microwaved then slapped on a plate with no frills at all. They could take a tip from Dunelm Mill cafe where there is always a small salad garnish on the plate and a few crisps. M&S are driving there customers away in every area. No wonder they are closing stores down

Nice product, but queues too long and a miserable lady serving teas and coffees. Avoid at busy times.

Very disappointed to call into the cafe today.... basically there isn't sufficient staff leaving long queues at the till and multiple tables piled with dirty crockery, at least 7 counted at this visit, just not good enough. The staff are doing their best but come on M&S , pull your finger out....there are plenty other places we can go for an average cuppa and cake!!

I would never go there again, table filthy had to ask to be wiped then a young girlwiped with a soaking wet cloth,I can move quicker than her and I am 76. I paid £2.50 for about 10 chips disgusting !!!never again

Called in on Tuesday at about 4 pm, needed to eat no lunch. We had the afternoon tea which was very tasty and served quickly and efficiently by the team..

Small coffee and chocolate cake at just over £5 in a run of the mill shop café/restaurant – pretty expensive given the very small slices of cakes that M&S provide. I'm sure that they now divide their large cakes into more slices! The cake was OK, but nothing to make you want to rush back. Service was fast and friendly.

Nipped into the cafe following a shopping trip with my partner.It was busy but service was good. Can recommend the latte also serve some nice cake(s). Did find my chair was a bit close to the table behind but nothing major.

Visited this cafe and ordered a Victoria sponge cake. The cost of a slice is expensive, however the cake was stodgey , still appeared to be slightly frozen and certainly looked more appealing than it tasted. Will stay with Debenhams much better value for money and quality. M&S need to get their act together.

My husband and I visited this store restaurant at 5pm on Saturday which is a frequent occurrence for us. After selecting 2 toasted sandwiches from the fridge we made our way to the till to be told by the disinterested and quite frankly miserable lady serving that they were no longer serving hot food. This was at 5.06pm and the restaurant does not close until 6pm. Having regularly bought similar items up until 5.30 previously I was quite taken aback by this response. When I questioned what time they actually stopped serving hit food the reply was "I don't know but we're not serving hot food". This service is just not good enough. M and S Longwell Green really need to buck their ideas up. Some additional customer service training wouldn't go amiss in addition to actually employing some staff who would actually take some interest and pride in their work.

Stopped for a coffee break here after shopping in the store Sunday 10th Sept midday Not impressed with the service I picked up a tray on entry and it was wet all over Ordered two coffees, a medium latte and a small americano decaf The person in the queue behind me got her coffees before me My small Americano eventually came but was a medium for which the guy apologised for but commented we wont charge you for it and coffee was spilt in the saucer thus making the biscuit soggy. The point was I only wanted a small cup. Maybe I should have refused it There were no teaspoon or serviettes available and the table we sat at was not very clean certainly not up to M S standards Not an enjoyable experience I am afraid

Had a nice lunch and did a lot of shopping only to get a £100 parking fine (received with menaces) foe a 20 min overstay, as a pensioner I was livid, I will never go in another M&S , I saw no signs and I have been using this retail park for years.

We went to the cafe having shopped in store. Decided on afternoon tea for two. The woman on the till- pretty unhelpful and unfriendly- told us that there were no scones left (3pm Saturday afternoon), the lady behind us suggested they would have some in the food hall downstairs. We waited for her return, paid and were told to choose our sandwiches- only seafood selection or egg mayo left- not ideal but ok- then told it only included one pack as we'd only paid for afternoon tea for one (!) no, we explained we'd paid for two! Waited about 15 minutes and were aware that people who were in the queue behind us had been served with their afternoon. I went to speak to another member of staff who suggested I choose the sandwiches I wanted (again) I asked if, actually, if the order hadn't been placed, rather than the egg mayo we could have a cheese salad sandwich which was in a different wrapper to the other sandwiches (relevance will become clear). 5 minutes later she brings a tray over, we can't have a cake stand as they were all already out (there were 2 on other tables) and she couldn't open the cheese salad sandwiches cos she wasn't allowed to ?!?! Scones ok, cakes ok but seriously £15.95 ?!?! Will be ringing M and S customer service in the morning to see what they think.

Sunday - Customers left outside in the cold and rain waiting for someone to unlock the doors. No apology for the delay. Why not unlock the doors at at 10.25am that way both entrances would be unlocked on time or get 2 people to unlock the doors at the same time! Come on M&S wake up and show some respect to your customers!

I write following a truly horrendous and somewhat harmful experience forced up myself and my mother this evening at the above detailed store. This was my first visit to this particular store as I am located in Manchester and have visited my parents for Christmas celebrations (24/12/16). I was horrified to see a young member of staff struggling and when I approached a gentleman who appeared to be a manager (wearing glasses) for assistance I and other customers were treated with perceived aggression and a dismissive attitude. Both my mother and myself are disabled so often require assistance and considering the large number of items we were looking at we would have expected a basic interest or level of service. This basic requirement was ignored.

The staff are really friendly, it's clean and fairly busy. The food is so so, had a slice of bread with scrambled eggs, bit of bacon and tomatoes. It was bland and uninteresting but not much choice out there other than chains.

Popped in here for afternoon tea. It was a very hot day so pleased to take a breather .....Unfortunately everyone else had the same idea. Seem to be in a line for ages... But my other half found a table and we eventually were served. I ordered cream tea for 2.This arrived with tea and milk. Lots of other customers remarked on this and said they were not aware that M & S did this! It was fab. Love it. Much nicer than a sandwich.A bit of a wait but so, so worth it... Hmmmmm....

We have always loved this cafe but today on our visit I couldn't get over how much this store has gone down hill.I will admit it was late in the day and probably if we had noticed they would be closing soon we probably would have left it.Coffee was fine but can't believe the coffee and walnut cake was well passed its best.So dry! If the girlks hadnt been so busy I would have definitely said something,I do appreciate that late customers are not always welcome having been in retail for 30 years,but to see an institution that we all admire and respect serving up inferior food makes me very sad,didn't think I would ever see the day.

Was visiting regularly but the service is getting worse I'm afraid. Finding a clean table is a work of art with cutlery ALWAYS dirty. Very slow service and food overpriced. Staff are almost always friendly with one or two exceptions but will be finding somewhere else to eat sadly.

This review is for the cafe at the mall Cribs Causeway, Bristol. The choice of food is really good, there are loads of choices of sandwiches, cakes and hot food, there is even a new dish of roast pork, which looked good value for money, I had the jacket potato with fruity chicken curry, it was hot and very tasty and a good sized portion. Very impressed, will go again.

I should make it clear that this is about the Broadmead branch of M & S, not Cribbs Causeway. Food was excellent as was the service. Tables were cleared AND WIPED quickly and efficiently even though they were very busy. A good selection of food on the menu. Only criticism is I couldn't find a glass for my drink, I'm sure they were there as other people had them, I just don't know where!

Visited at lunchtime (M&S Longwell Green) with my 5yr old for a childs sandwich & jacket spud. Queue quite small so not long to wait but staff not too friendly, no knives, no cups for water so had to ask for both. Hot food 15 min wait no problem, but whilst waiting the "hot food lady" was going around asking what people had ordered oddly... tables weren't being cleared - lady supposed to be clearing tables seemed slow.. Jacket potato with mushroom stroganoff ordered - when it arrived there was a sauce & a few mushrooms in it with a slice or 2 of onion, not impressed for £4.45 ! Really not the best today - although cappuccino was nice.

Far too many negative people in this world. The staff do the best to what little resources they have. A very good little cafe with free parking.

Very expensive smoked salmon and egg bloomer which came with one measly slice of smoked salmon. Was like fine dining without the fine bit.

The staff need a rocket up their backsides! So unbelievably slow. Tables never cleared so you have to clear your own before you can sit down. Long waiting times to be served. Unfriendly staff. Need I go on? The quality of M&S food is good admittedly, expensive but good. They just seriously need to look at their staffing issues, too many staff around but don't seem to be doing a lot!

3rd visit and each time disappointing. Not enough staff. Dirty tables, No cutlery or glasses out - have to ask. One till open for a large queue of people late lunch time with girl on till also acting like customer service advisor - leaving till to sort out customer complaints/issues leaving us queuing even longer. Worst M&S cafe ever and wont be going back now.

Why do M & S take so long to produce a cup of coffee? I know I'm not the only one to say this as I have several friends who have experienced the same difficulties with M & S in many other stores across the country.They always have plenty of staff what do they do all the time.The food is good but the service is appalling. This is definately my last visit to any of their coffee shops.

My boyfriend and I were passing the door of M & S and we decide to stop off in the cafe and see what was on offer. The cafe is of a standard lay out. There wasn't too much of a queue, so we made our order for drinks and food. Once you have been in a M & S cafe they are all the same, nothing really changes. The young girl was very polite and service was standard. We managed to get a table which had been cleared and cleaned, which was good. The coffee is ok, but nothing special.

Cribbs Causeway M&S:Myself and my partner were Xmas shopping last Sunday and decided to have a bite to eat at the 'horse shoe' shaped bar eatery area with the tall chairs. We were served by Holly who was nothing but a major credit to M&S, she was polite, friendly and gave excellent attentive and smiley service. We chose two platters (one fish and one traditional meats etc) which were served on slate platters along with a very nicely chilled glass of wine. For approx £11 a head it really was a complete bargain and pretty delicious. I rated my fish platter 10/10, my partner his meat platter 8/10 he said the Scotch Egg was a bit bland and the pickled onions a little dry. We will definitely be back as the atmosphere was buzzy and fun. I did notice a couple of staff could have done with smartening up a bit, a girl serving with a hole in her trousers and scruffy shoes and a couple of grubby aprons that could have done with a fresh one putting on! Well done Holly I can see why you are the manager, see you again.

Wir waren in der Mall bei Marks and Spencer an die große Bar gesessen. Ja es kam lange kein Personal. Der Kellner hat sich aber sehr höflich entschuldigt,das sie zuwenig Personal hätten heute. Das Essen kam dann aber prompt. Mein Lachsteller mit verschiedenen Broten und Seevarianten war für 10.95 Pfund ein warer Genuss. Pasta mit Pesto auch schon lange nicht mehr so gut gegessen für 5.95Pfund. Vielleicht etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig in einem Supermarkt zu Speisen,aber es hat sich gelohnt. Kommemgerne wieder,Preis Leistung ist Top.

I know it was 11 o'clock on a Saturday morning when we arrived here hoping for a nice sit down and a cup of tea, so we expected it to be busy, but the speed of the service was ridiculously slow. First of all we had to queue behind the rope like we were trying to get into a night club which was unexpected but fine as they were only letting people in when a table became free so when you did finally sit down there weren't loads of people milling around trying to find a table and glaring at you trying to will you to leave. One you got beyond the rope picking up your cake etc was fine as the trickle of people being let in was so slow, however, the real problem was getting your drink. The coffee machines are placed after the checkout and after paying your drink order is put into the queue for the assistants to deal with but receipts were being mislaid, dealt with out of order and worst of all the drinks were being made at snail’s pace - it makes you really appreciate how quick they are at Costa etc. To top this off the room is very echo-y and there is a muzak system that is not properly audible so it just adds to the general noise. A terrible experience, come on M&S!
