This was (is) the perfect stop for any families touring York, as we did, for various foodstuffs to bring back to your hotel room... the supermarket has a great selection and variety of things, from ready-made re-heatable meals to snacks, and all sorts of beverages. I'm a regular customer and I usually go to the MS bakery and get a signature sourdough every week. Sometimes when the cut sourdough is sold out, I take a whole one and ask a bakery staff to help cut it. However, today two staff of the bakery acted quite rude - they refused to help me cut the bread and said the store NEVER do it for customers. I explained that I have had the bread cut by the staff almost each week, and they insisted in very bad attitude that I must have went to a different store: 'other store do this, we DON'T!' I'm very disappointed by these staff's behaviour. If it's a MS policy that the bakery does not help customer cut bread, they should say it is a store policy, it looks like they just don't want to help.

Today we went to the cafe in M&S we Bought piece of cake and sat and then I had ice cream from their shop ground floor، the woman in the cashier came toward us just said you can't eat this here, We told her but we bought a cake from you And then she came again and took the plate of cake , and just looking toward us like if she doesn't have any job just us, so rude, can't you learn to talk with people and deal with them in a good way, I didn't hear before that's not allowed to eat something in the place and it's from your shop and even if it's she can speak and behaves good to tell us the information.

Traditional city centre M&S. this one is spread across four floors; naturally they put the men’s stuff at the top. Seems to have had a recent refurbishment, with funky lighting and new shelves in the food section. Ooh. The food section really is very good though. Good selection of sandwiches. Better than Liverpool M&S offers. Enter from two sides; from the front and from the side. The latter gives access to the Golden fleece and is near the Shambles. Selection of men’s jeans is quite poor. Better jeans for the people. Also more traditional shirts with patterned fabric please. York used to have a separate M&S men’s store in the Coppergate Centre. And a C&A (ahh.. 😻). Those were the days.

Since the demise of the Hull M&S, the York branch is the closest to home (30miles) if I want to buy clothes or homeware from M&S. I quite like the York branch as the clothing etc is well presented and I can usually find what I want. I haven’t used the cafe for a while but it was okay. The toilet facilities, as always, cramped and crowded. Really need some unisex or more female toilets. I like the Food Hall; it’s not the largest but they do carry a good range of products including gluten free and the fruit and veg is good quality and a decent price. When I visited earlier today there were huge queues for the many self service checkouts; as far as I could see there was only one member of staff trying to keep on top of that. This M&S does still have a few ordinary tills which I hope they will keep; staff on these are always pleasant, polite and cheerful.

I was ignored despite the absence of a queue. When I did get served the staff continued their chat and turned their backs on me. Soup was lovely but the sausage sandwich was un- acceptable… it came on 2 slices of brown bread with 2 sausages in therefore half the sandwich was just bread !! Aisles are confusingly labelled so I go to one labelled "soup" and find no soup but later find soup in a distant corner. It is VERY VERY rare i leave a bad review, but this time WELL here goes. I have NEVER visited such an unorganised M & S cafe. It was a nightmare for all this day. So many wondering what the hell was going on. You had to que to be seated, which would have been no problem, had there been a sign asking you to do so. But no, there was NOTHING to indicate this. 1 poor lady was rudely told she COULD NOT just sit where she wanted and HAD TO go back and wait to be seated. ONLY THE TO BE SEATED A FEW SECONDS LATER IN THE SAME SEAT SHE HAD JUST BEEN RUDELY EVICTED FROM. By the SAME rude waitress. Not only that, there was not enough staff serving at the counter and it took 20 minutes to serve 8 customers. When i FINALLY arrived at the counter to be served, i asked for a Flat White Coffee and a Black coffee. When asked if filter was OK for my black, no issue. UNTIL i asked for large ones. To be then told "" Oh no, they will have to be double shot coffee,s and no flat white but a Latte."" WHAT ???? She then fannied about cancelling the till order and re entering it all. Oh come on, WHY no do 2 large black filter coffee's, with a side of milk. Its not actually rocket science, or is it. Never had this coffee issue at any other M&S cafe, so why here. ??? Yes it was a busy time, yes the Christmas market was on, but this was a complete disaster zone. So if people have to wait to be seated, have a sign letting people know this. It could be hung just above and in front of the pastry island as you walk in. Plain to see, yet not in any way of anything or anybody else. Get it right, or shut it down.

Arrived in York on Thursday 19th Oct 2017, a very wet day, we dropped off our cases at the hotel and went for a walk round, feeling wet and tired we went into the cafe in Marks and Spencers city centre York, not sure what to have and got the beautiful aroma of freshly baked scones, ordered one each for my wife and I, joked with the assistant and decided to wind her up and asked if the scones were fresh or out of the microwave (really good and friendly banter with the assistant and her colleague) they told me they were freshly baked, but with a smile told me they would gladly microwave them for me if I wanted. The coffee was brilliant, the scones were out of this world and probably the best scones I have ever tasted. As for the assistants, they were brilliant and entered into the spirit of my banter. Top marks to Marks and Spencer's for the cafe service, friendly and efficient and great scones.

Cashiers are too busy dispensing glasses, plates, biscuits whilst baristas are asking along the line for hot drink orders. Yesterday, 2 friends and I went to Vangarde Shopping Park in Huntington York. We decided to have a bite to eat at Marks and Spencer cafe. It proved to be a fabulous idea. The service was prompt and food was tastefully presented on the plates. My jacket potato was crisp on the outside and well cooked inside. There was a generous amount of tuna and sweet corn. Both my friends had quiche with salad and it looked so lovely I wished I could have that as well. They said it was delicious. We sat close to the wall, looking out into the car park and beyond. The top of York Minster was visible from where we sat. There is ample parking space, extremely roomy inside with tables well spaced and not too crowded. The whole place is very well maintained and eco-friendly in many ways-must see to believe! Awful. Seated with my family inc x2 children at 5pm next to a 15 party of mixed couples absolutely off their faces. Aggressive and swearing, banging into chairs. Requested to be moved and it couldn’t be accommodated. Service was awful, waited 30 minutes for drinks to be taken. 45 mins until they arrived. Ruined our day.

Went the Whippet inn for Sunday roast.. ordered the roast beef it was exceptional as was the cauliflower cheese. A top rated meal. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend and would visit again on my next holiday to York. Well done Jill
