Market Square Fish Bar in Cherwell

Great place for fish and chips, you get a good portion of chips and nice size piece of chunky fish, it is very delicious and I enjoy it ever time, not greasy and value for money. Great if you have been out and about and feeling a little tired and hungry for some hot food, it will always hit the spot. You can eat in or take away, there is plenty to choose from, go and try for yourself you will not be disappointed.

Good service & nice little shop. Chips were little dry otherwise I'd happily give 5 stars. Owner was very pleasant ☺️

Great local chippy, pineapple fritters and chips were excellent. Huge portion and fantastic taste to all. No card payment was ok as cash point 20 meters away.

Excellent value! Very good fish and chips. £7.70 for a small cod and chips with a coke. It was more than enough to fill me up. The folks behind the bar were nice enough. Place was clean. I'll be back!

Absolutely disgusting. Stale fish curry sauce inedible. Chips small greasy and stale. Peas odd taste. Complete waste of money can not believe the good reviews? Waited age’s miserable staff. Shop smelled

They won’t use the parasols to keep the sun off for “health & safety” and all the drinks they sold were warm and no ice. A pretty diabolical experience.

Ordered cod and chips, 1 battered sausage. No idea what meat is in the sausage but wasn’t great at all. Fish was over cooked and chips were soggy when I got home (5mins) Go elsewhere is my advice

Banging chips and decent batter also. Think it was cash only, which is irritating as who has cash these days but plenty of atms nearby. It's good food that is reasonably priced for portions sizes. Still unsure whether sauce should be incorporated into costs or sold individually... this is personal preference, but something about paying 30p for a squirt of mayo or for a sachet irritates me!

Absolutely vile. 3 cod 1 chips 2 mushy peas 1 curry sauce Went to the shop and ordered, total cost £26 ish, the fish looked pretty decent on show. It took me all of 7 minutes to drive home, all of the batter had turned to mush fish full of oil, mushy peas tated like oil curry sauce was terrible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY

The fish and chips were stale definitely not fres. Strange musty smell in the shop which seemed to have permeated the food. Portion was small, but didn’t matter as I couldn’t eat it and I wouldn’t go back or recommend. I

Awful. This place is by far one of the worst Chippies in Bicester. Everything was dripping in old dirty oil, most of the food has either been sat there a while or double cooked. Curry sauce was the worst I have ever had. Much better options in Bicester where you actually get freshly cooked food.

This was the first chippy I tried after moving to the area, and I can say with great certainty that I wasn't disappointed. Service with a smile, generous portions of chips, and very reasonably priced. The only reason I haven't given a five-star review is because of the curry sauce, which is more like chicken soup (still delicious, to be fair). Thanks, Market Square Fish Bar!

Called here just on the off chance and we are pleased we did. We were pleasantly surprised to find haddock on the menu as for some reason people tend to prefer cod, especially away from the coast. The fish we had was absolutely fresh and being from a major fishing port we know good fish. The size was good too and the price very reasonable. The chips were a little tough but still good and not greasy, Thanks again

DISCLAIMER: This is the first time I'm trying this so I'm not sure if it is just a fluke or regular occurrence. Also, they only accept cash. If you don't have cash there is a cash point across the street. This is my first time trying the Market Square Fish Bar, I ordered the Haddock & Chips, Cod & Chips and 2 x fried sausage. The food came wrapped in paper which is good because the food packaging is recyclable. The chips were a bit soggy and it was a bit obvious that the oil was used a few times before. Aside from that I did like the flavour of the fish. I would try this again and give another review.

Found it below average. Fish was very oily/greasy to the point batter was just soft and wet. Chips were fairly dark and tasted stale so clear had been fried in old oil. This place is in no way cheap so basics such as using new clean oil and not soaking the fish in oil are to be expected. Cash only too, which is a bit annoying but cash point across the road at HSBC so not big of an issue. Overall, below average place - won't be visiting again. I went on a Saturday at 5pm.

Really good Batter, chips were lovely too, Staff are lovely and friendly. only reason it’s not a 5 is due to the Curry sauce.. afraid it was not nice. Change the sauce and You’ll get a 5* from me... I will be back..

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had the misfortune to taste. Overly greasy and slushy batter, under cooked soggy greasy tasteless chips. Not a single redeeming point to be found. What this fish bar does to potatoes and fish is a disgrace to the industry.

This is my favourite place in Bicester to get chips!

Disappointed. Sadly, we have just moved to the area and fancied fish and chips. The fish was so over cooked it was like plastic. The chips were OK but probably better for after a night on the tiles rather than dinner. Battered sausage was ok but you can’t really get that wrong can you?

Very good service when ordering take away for a medium sized group. All items were ready quickly and of very good quality.

I've had fish & chips here about 3 times now and the battered fish is never that good. Friendly service but improve.

Visited this establishment early evening after spending the day at Bicester Heritage. We decided on a take away because limited access for my wheelchair (old buildings not always accessible) I had sausage in batter and my wife sausage both with chips. The portions were generous and chips well cooked and piping hot as well as the sausages prices are reasonable and we will return when next up this area

Handy chippy close to town centre

Slow service , seemed unorganized, staff wiping there nose with hands and then handling the raw fish ! . My son and husband were ill the day after eating there .

This place is unpretentious, friendly and does what it says on the tin. For something cheap and cheerful, sit in for plated fish 'n' chops, mushy peas and a good cuppa!

Excellent! I often drop in for a bag of chips and if we want take away cod and chips this is the place we prefer. Good portions, great food, friendly service, excellent value. This is a fish and chip shop that has everything that I want at reasonable prices.

I've been here about ten times over the last five years, and I've always enjoyed the food. Good portions, and well cooked. Will return and recommend.

Only had a small portion of chips but they were delicious, hot and plenty for one person. As there are 4 portion sizes of chips, not sure how many the large would feed, a big family probably. Would recommend.

Stop to get fish and chips for 4 people. Ordered 4 small cod and chips and could have ordered 2 which would have been plenty to eat. Very large portions and fish was fresh.

Cod and chips - fish was a little overcooked and the chips had been kept warm for a little while. The portion sizes were good though but it is not the cheapest fish shop in town. Adequate but nothing more.

For me this is just an average fish and chip shop, nothing special and not intending to revisit. Food was not great and when I visited they were using Non Brewed condiment for vinegar, and that's not a great recommendation for me.

We visit this Fish bar at least once a week. The cod is beautiful and white. Premises very clean and service very good.

Moved down to the area a few yrs ago from up noth and chips n gravy seems to be unheard of! Thankfully Market Square chippy understands this sublime flavour combination perfectly. Chips always taste better than most other places I've tried. We moved up towards Banbury recently and I still occasionally make the journey back to Bicester as they are worth it. Seriously big fish too!

Simply the best fish unless your willing to travel to a sea side resort for freshly caught fish! The mushy peas are also a taste bud delight!

Nothing outstanding, but also nothing wrong with the place, what else can you say about a chippy? I live in the town, I'd not go out of my way to get food from here but if I was in the town center and looking for fish and chips I'd get them from here.

I'm not really a fish & chip person, but on the few occasions that we've decided on a quick meal from the chipshop, the food from Market Square Fish bar has always been perfectly acceptable. A typical, average chippy, but food was fresh enough, nice & hot, & tasty.

Being in the market square this Chip shop is an easy place to pick up a quick meal. Food is good - Staff are helpful and prices reasonable.

Does what it says on the tin really. Fast f&c. nice price. good and hot, open wrapped with a sausage ready to eat. No request seem small.

I have been here countless times to buy fish & chips for dinner and it's never let me down! Always good, tasty, chippy-style food, and never encountered a rude server.. I don't know what some people expect from a fish & chip shop - luxury dining?!

Handy fish & chips where parking nearby is usually convenient and service is fast & friendly. Nothing outstanding, good value for money, convenient and I've used them a few times now as a result while working locally on business. I'll be using them again, no complaints, no frills, recommended for exactly what's on offer, good fish, chips, pies, sausages etc..

Popped in for lunch with my young children, found a reasonable sized dining area and ordered child-size fish and chips along with a glass of squash for each child. I was then informed that neither flavour of squash was avaliable, they had only fruit shoots in stock. When the bottled drink arrived, it was clearly labelled as being from a value multipack - probably the value store a few doors down the road. The label announced that the drink was NOT for resale - when I challenged the waitress about this (they were charging £1.50-ish) she shrugged whikst the owner stood behind her and pretended not to understand me. Food was dry and tasteless. Terrible customer service and an awful situation to put your staff in!!! I will NOT be going back.

Well chippys dont have a rep for being brilliant but this was not good, u walk in and the place looks dated to the point it looks unclean, i orderd the food which came quick but was plonked on the tabled, the chips were bad and soggy and for a chippy uld hope theyd get dat right, the pie was perfect thoe i must say, but overal i felt crap eating here,

My father and I had a fabulous Haddock and chips at the Market Square Fish Bar in Bicester. After a long day of moving furniture we decided we would like fish and chips an dwere drawn to the smell. The service was good adn the portion size was exceptional however the taste was superb. I've told everyone I know who visits Bicester to go there and eat in. many thanks James
