Today my wife and I ordered two Cream Teas, and a pot of tea for two, so far so good!! 5/6 minutes later the owner returned with two cream teas which looked delicious and I can confirm tasted delicious ! She then returned with a lovely China Tea Pot and two matching China cups together with a milk jug. I then asked her very politely if I could have a jug of hot water for the tea, ( as any British person knows, with a tea pot , after you pour out two cups of tea , the tea in the pot continues to brew so your second cup can be too strong , so you can then use the extra hot water and a touch of milk for your second cup) The owner just said “ we charge extra for hot water” !!! Shame, because if she had bought a jug of hot water I would have given 5 stars and called again many times. I have been in hundreds of tearooms and had a pot of hot water on the tray with the teapot and milk, if not , when asked the jug is bought without question !

We went to stop here for a cream tea, my husband took my 2 year old upstairs to use the toilet whilst I looked at the menu. They came back down within 30 secs and my my husband said ‘were going’ they wouldn’t allow her to use the toilets because we hadn’t yet purchased something, telling my husband. She can’t use the toilet yet, there’s one 5 minutes away. I appreciate it’s for cafe users only. However 1, she is 2 years old. Potty training and can’t hold it and 2, we were going to be having drinks and cakes/ cream tea here. You’ve lost yourself custom now.

My partner friends and I popped in for coffee and cake this afternoon. My friend and I popped to the toilet before ordering and were met with a very hostile waitress. It completely put us off staying so I politely bought a bottle of water and made a donation for using the toilet and promptly left. Terrible customer service!

Today, even though it was sunny and the place was empty, the lady behind the counter was rude, with prejudices towards us foreign tourists, who struggle to understand her language. This led us to leave the place without consuming anything. We recommend everyone to go to the delightful stand, which is located in the garden behind the church, in front of the tea room, with a splendid view of the bay and friendly, smiling staff.

Revisited this adorable little cafe in St Ives . After falling upon it in May 2024 . We were always going to return. And again we weren’t disappointed . We were greeted by the friendly professional staff . So helpful and polite. The food is outstanding for a small business. Delicious well prepared . Prompt service , nothing was too much . We had a fabulous lunch and the owner and staff were extremely friendly. It’s for us the best kept secret in St Ives and throughly recommend. If you want to feel welcomed and be served great food . At reasonable prices . This is the place . Also dog friendly. We will definitely return. V&C

With dishes this dirty, I don’t think the owner can afford to be this rude. The scones are fine, although they shouldn’t fall apart as easily as they do, but they still taste good. As I mentioned, the biggest issues were the dirty cup with a strange granular texture inside, like something sweet that hadn’t been cleaned properly, the spoon with some spots of dirt, and the little plate as well. By the way, I’m not surprised she was so rude to a non-native English speaker, considering how she treats her own employees. The place itself may seem captivating from the outside, but it’s particularly crowded inside. If, like me, you’re looking for a place to relax, this tea room has nothing to offer in that regard…

My husband left a review a couple of days ago, about our visit and the fact there was an issue with an order of 2 non vegan hot chocolates. I'm not reviewing that because his review already says it all. I'm writing this review because the owner replied to his review, stating I was shouting swearing and berating her young staff. She also falsely stated we went back to her shop 4 times and that I threw litter and drinks at them. I actually spoke coherently and politely to this woman trying to get a refund or a replacement drink for her staff's mistake when taking our fully vegan order. I could see she was rushed off her feet and already seemed stressed. I did go back into the cafe one time only, after my son popped into a different shop, to ask for a receipt so my husband could claim the cost of the 2 hot chocolates back through the bank, but she refused. I left the cafe frustrated and confused, I have never had this issue and appalling service in any food place in my entire life. I was more than amicable and respectful even though the same can't be said for the owner. I've had a read of other reviews and I'm glad she hasn't just been rude to me, and outright lying about my actions in her cafe really shows her character, and what a bad one it is. I resent ever setting foot in her cafe and crossing paths with this neurotic woman.

We stopped here to have a quick lunch before heading home after exploring what St Ives has to offer. Decor and cafe is such a beautiful place, but unfortunately our delight was short lived. Taking our order, I should’ve known what we was in for, the lady was rushing to take my order and was impatient. After all the rushing, she certainly took her sweet time adding everything up. We were patiently waiting for our food, until the owner/mananger (I apologise if that’s not correct) started arguing with other patrons over a hot chocolate order. It’s quite simple, if a customer specifies their vegan, you should probably tell them that your “hot chocolate” isn’t vegan. Before letting them order it and charging them for it. Unfortunately - I’d love to say that this is the end of my complaint, but alas I will divulge. After the family left, the lady started berating her staff in the middle of the seating area. Quite loudly, not only unprofessional but that poor boy looked fresh out of school. Hopefully he gets paid enough to put up with being harassed like that. After her loud declarations of her innocence and stating her staff need to “have her back” we swiftly left and we can quite confidently say that next time we’ll walk a few metres up to the next cafe and avoid this tea room.

We told them we’re vegan and ordered their vegan cream tea for all our family. When the scones were served we were told the 2 hot chocolates weren’t vegan, so I said that’s okay we’ll have 2 chai lattes instead. I was then told we’d have to pay extra for them because they had already made the hot chocolate! I tried to talk to the woman, she kept walking off, wouldn’t look me in the eyes, was very dismissive and ignored me. In the end we had no hot chocolate, no refund for them and no replacement drink either. When I later asked for a receipt we were denied, she said she couldn’t find it and refused to give us a hand written one. Rude rude rude. We are in Cornwall in Carbis Bay and St Ives often and we will not be coming back here again. Terrible customer service and inability to deal with a mistake made on her part.

Lady very angry and let us knew it. Banged plate on table. All this because I wanted iced latte after mixed up order. All she had to do was pour hot latte into something that ice could easily be added. Very rude and it wasn’t even lunch time yet. I see from a high proportion of other poor ratings that she has a problem with customer service and simple social skills. Finally idea of iced latte was 3 quick melting iced cubes that disappeared quickly and meant it was not an iced latte. Rather a cool one. Never had any other business act like this in St Ives. I don’t like customers dot com. Update, the owner contacted me saying I am shameful. No apologies here!

The lady who runs this place needs to take a holiday or change career. Very bad attitude, unwelcoming & simply rude. After ordering a large cream tea (£11 for the vegan version) I asked if they'd be able to refill my water bottle from the tap (I'm hiking the coastal path) & the young staff members politely said they weren't allowed to. I queried this as it's never been a problem in any other café & then the owner came out & ranted at me for several minutes about people wanting things for free, customers wasting things, flushing her toilet ... she doesn't seem to like customers very much. She wanted 70p to refill my water bottle & 25p for a small glass of tap water. I actually wouldn't have minded paying, I know utility bills are expensive, but she was so aggressive about it I couldn't bring myself to give her more money. I appreciate there is a water refill station on the harbour front, but I was already settled in the cafe. The tea was nice but the scones were very crumbly & over-sweet, just fell apart. Service from the owner was pretty much the worst I've ever received anywhere. I feel sorry for the very young staff working there.

Cute location, far too many cushions on the chairs and no space to put anything though. Food was good, and the two young girls working there were super friendly and polite. The owner / manager needs to take a holiday or something because she had a stinking attitude! She was unwelcoming, rude and just pretty hostile to everyone. Not being funny but for £30 for two simple panini’s and two Pepsis I should get at least a smile! The way she talked to some parents feeding their child with outside food was really harsh and pointless - they had a table full of store bought food so we’re not being unreasonable. Avoid this cafe if you are looking for a relaxing cup of tea! The lady taking the orders, who seemed to be the owner, was very bad tempered and rude to customers and her young staff. The atmosphere was terrible. We sat nervously waiting for our scones and tea! We had ordered one of them with jam and no cream for our daughters friend but when it came it had cream and no jam. We asked if they would swap the cream for jam and the scone was taken away - but no replacement came. When we asked again, the owner lady said she had reimbursed our credit card for the scone. We said we would like to have the scone but she refused - so our daughters friend had to go without! She suggested that we should leave the cafe - in hindsight we should have taken up the offer! I saw the tearoom when walking in st ives and decided to give it a try as from the outside it looks very pretty and inviting. However, that was where the pleasantries ended. 2 of my friends and I tried looking for a table of 3 however all the tables in the tearoom seemed to only be able to seat 2. A friendly customer gave us one of their chairs and we sat down. No one came up to us to give us a menu or tell us how the tearoom worked. We went up to the till and ordered there however when the owner asked what table we were on and we answered, she freaked out saying only 2 people should be on that table - baring in mind we looked for tables that could seat more than 2 and there were none - it wasn’t even busy they just don’t want to seat more than 2 people by the looks of how the tables were laid out. She then went to look to see if we were blocking anything and we weren’t so she let us sit as a table of 3. This left us feeling unwelcomed and like a pain in her backside. When our food came a table near the pretty tearoom window came available so we went to move and as soon as we did we were met with an abrupt yelling off of the owner telling us we couldn’t move to the window seat as we’d be blocking the way. Ironically after they cleaned that table they moved the seats so they blocked the entry way 🤣. Walking through the tearoom to the toilets we also saw the kitchen which was extremely dirty as well as the back of the tearoom where it appeared the floor hadn’t been swept or mopped in months. Having previously worked in a tearoom, I spent time cleaning in all of my shifts making sure it looked clean so there is definitely time to do it. Unhygienic and unfriendly - will not be returning and would rather go to one of the stunning cafes near the seafront instead.

I ended up stumbling upon Market Place Tea Rooms. Such a great find given the circumstances. They were only meant to be serving cake, scones and drinks as it was 1 hour before closing. Despite them having closed the kitchen for hot food service the staff went out of their way, reopening the kitchen, to make me a jacket potato with sides. The food was great and quickly served. Had late cuppas here at 4ish. It was a fantastic place to sit and chill. And the staff right on the button for a laugh.. dog friendly.. Great cake and a proper pot of tea.

I love everything about this tea room! I managed to fit in 2 visits during my short stay in St Ives. The carrot cake was one of the best I've had (I have very particular carrot cake requirements) and the scones were deliciously fresh. Beautiful decor and crockery enhanced by friendly and quick service. If you want a cream tea or tea room experience I recommend a visit to this spot.

Had a wonderful experience, fun proprietor, bone china teacups, coffee and walnut cake to die for. A wonderfully English tearoom.

We had the best crab sandwiches at the tearoom this afternoon. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. We can’t wait to return.

Avoid avoid avoid!!! If I could have left no stars I would have done. Extremely rude owner, bad attitude. There are so many lovely cafes in St Ives but this isn’t one of them!

Really warm and welcoming Tea room. We had the traditional cream tea and it was so enjoyable. Lovely lady owner, we had a great chat. Looking forward to going back again in the summer. J & B

What a beautiful tea room. The owner is so friendly and welcoming. Her homemade cakes are gorgeous. So dog friendly, we visited twice on this trip to St. Ives. Thank you, see you next January 🥰

Visited in off season but this cafe still had a nice atmosphere. We had a lovely seat by the window and ordered food. Everything we had was really tasty, fresh and great value for money. There’s a great variety. We chatted to the staff for a little bit and they were all really friendly. I also like that the products support other local businesses. Was my first time visiting but won’t be my last! Thank you :)

We visited the cafe as a party of 3 out of season last year. On entering we chose a table window and pulled a chair up, we were approached by who we assume was the owner who informed us all tables were 2 seaters and therefore one of our party would have to sit on their own. I think business seem to forget the length they were closed during covid and surprised they can be so unaccommodating, especially on a quiet out of season day. We then went up to order only to find no hot chocolate, no milkshake and the fridge turned off so soft drinks were room temperature. We were also snapped at for asking for coffee to be extra hot!! We felt a complete inconvenience, the owner really does have to sort her attitude out.

Very rude service from the manager & agree with other reviews on here! DO NOT VISIT! Not sure how this lady manages to keep this tea room open with her unfriendly attitude towards paying customers. I wonder how she treats her staff. We arrived as a party of 6 (including 2 children) & felt like we were a burden even though we were planning to spend money!! From the outset the woman was completely rude, so we decided to up & leave. Manners cost nothing & I’m glad we decided not to spend our money there & go to the Yellow Canary just round the corner, where the staff showed amazing friendly service & offered fantastic food, so the rude lady actually did us a favour by being so rude!

Very rude owner, will not be coming back. Poor customer service and food. Nicer places to eat and drink near by.

Lovely tea room with excellent service. We had a cream tea and a toasted tea cake. Scones were lovely and light, as was the tea cake.

Ordered some coffees. When asked for some extra milk for one of our party who found the coffee too strong was told we'd have to pay extra! I've never experienced this anywhere!! What dire penny pinching attitude. Won't be going there again, made for an unpleasant atmosphere, especially when there are nicer places nearby, our misfortune to choose this place! Urgh.

Visited yesterday. Had an amazing cream tea. 2 scones and a huge amount of clotted cream and jam make up 1 portion. The scones came out slightly warmed and were delicious. Lots of other lovely cakes on the counter. The lady who served us was very friendly and funny and provided treats for our dog. Would highly recommend and would return here.

A lovely meal . The pork had the best crackling my husband has had in ages. Service good at the start but tailed off as the evening went on. Seems to be a shortage of staff.

The only thing I'd say is to check your order to make sure it's all there before you leave. Often, items are missed or wrong. It is also constantly reducing the size of their portions, rice portions are now smaller, and prawn cracker bags have lost about a 3rd of their size. Cash only, FYI

The best hot chocolate drink with cream and marshmallows I had in Cornwall during a 2 week holiday and the cheapest. Also polite friendly staff

I confess to being stunned at £12.50 for cod and chips, but can tell you that the fish burger is a thick piece of battered cod but under £8! The inhouse tarter is excellent. The shop is spotless and the steady queue of foot traffic speaks for itself. The staff are cheerful, polite and efficient, when you pay you receipt has an order number. Everything is cooked to order so expect to wait. Good sized portions. Note: cash only!!
