Marios Fish Bar in South Gloucestershire

I never normally leave reviews, I can’t be arsed generally, but I have come on especially to give credit where it’s due. Mario’s is now our go-to location for fish and chips. We have ordered around 6 times, and every single time the food has been absolutely superb. The haddock is always chunky and fresh, with more fish than batter , and you get a huge portion of chips. The delivery is usually very quick, and the food is still hot when it arrives. All in all, a fantastic plaice…(see what I did there?) We would never go anywhere else now.

Chips delicious, curry sauce delicious, cod not as good as it has been in the past, flavourless to be honest.

Great burger, great cod bites, great customer service! Just not a fan of the chips here, a bit of a boring taste. Nail the chips though and this is a 5 star chippy with delivery and vegan options. Edit : the chips have been improved and so has the curry sauce so I'm changing to 5 stars.

The best chip shop in the local area without a doubt a great menu to choose from at a very reasonable price. Also do gluten free options for you people that require that. Best to order ahead for pick as gets extremely busy at times

My favourite fish and chip shop in Bristol. I used to get it delivered when I lived closer, but since moving house, I am not in their delivery radius. I tried other chip shops, but nothing compares to Mario’s! So, I always make the trip over to go and grab my favourite me takeaway when I can. I am vegetarian and they always have good veggie options. I tend to choose their battered halloumi and garlic mushrooms, and they always give me a generous portion of cheese on my cheesy chips too! Would definitely recommend ⭐️

For £11.50, the fish and chips were profoundly disappointing, despite other reviews suggesting otherwise. The fish was soggy and flaked apart, merging with the packaging before I even opened it. To compensate for the poor quality of fish, they overloaded the bag with chips, which did very little to improve my experience. I won’t be returning.

Very good value and served quickly

Had a large fish and chips tonight around about 8.30/8.45. I won't say I'm a regular but use the shop probably once a month. Have to say I was quite disappointed tonight. The fish I think was over cooked and the chips if anything were under done. I can't quite put my finger on the problem, maybe the oil was hot enough anyway for over a tenner not really acceptable.

Mario's is, without doubt, the finest fish and chips you will get anywhere. We never go anywhere else.

Only grabbed a medium chips but it was a very big portion and chips were great.

I’m pretty sure I’ve already left a review for Marios Fishbar, but my Google Maps is asking me to leave one again. So I’ve been going to Marios Fishbar for quite some years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it every time. There’s a great selection on the menu and the even tackle gluten issues for my mother-in-law. They are very busy, so make sure you’ve got plenty of time to wait to get served or try and phone ahead or use their app.

We have ordered from Mario's so many times now and they never disappoint. Prices are reasonable for the portion size and quality is always top tier. Fish is so fresh with crispy batter and the chips are perfect. Cod bites are lush, burgers are delicious with fresh salad. Also love the fresh homemade coleslaw. Collection order via their website is efficient and you don't pay as much as on Uber eats. Basically..go to Mario's. You will not be disappointed 😃

Ordered fish and chips - food not very hot, fish batter was very soft and un-crisp and the anemic looking chips were tepid ........ why cant fish & chip shops produce chips that that are golden brown and crisp ? Very disappointing.

Good menu, especially for GF but neither the batter on the fish or chips were crispy and the chips quite tasteless. Ordered both for myself (GF fish and chips) and regular for others (fish and chicken burger and chips). Disappointed, not sure the hype going on

Marios Fish Bar is patronised by the local community and rightly so it offered the customer excellent food, but the standard and quaity appears to be declining I am of the opinion Marios Fish Bar is riding on its previous good reputation. The service is still excellent, ordered fish and chips - food not very hot, fish batter was very soft and not crisp, the anemic looking chips were tepid ........ why cant fish & chip shops produce chips that that are golden brown and crisp ? Very disappointing. Must try alternative fish shop outlets.

Just bought 2 large cod and chips got home to find both cod was so small and there was only one portion of chips the cod was 5mm thick and that was including batter never again

The best Fish and chip shop in my opinion... service great.. food amazing.. Friday nights there may be a big queue but they serve well and plenty of friendly staff working to make the queue go fast... We come from Pucklechurch as no delivery out here.. but we'll worth the 50 minute round trip

The food is good for when you want a treat but getting ahold of it is a whole different matter! Multiple times now I have waited till they're supposed to be open to grab some food and have not been able to as they close down their delivery and not being able to get to them makes this even more of an issue in particular for me. Disappointing to say the least.

Absolutely fantastic! Second time I've been recently and it's the best quality fish for miles (a good 20 minute drive each way for me). I even eat all the batter, so excellent is the quality. Fried chicken is juicy and perfectly seasoned. Chips are the real deal. Impeccably clean, lovely staff and a nice atmosphere when stood waiting with other customers. Parking is a little dodgy at times but there are plenty of unrestricted side roads.

Bought a chicken burger only asked for mayo on it after asking me if I want cheese or salad I Said no cheese or salad so she said just mayo and I said yes I got back home with my food and it had cheese on it and had an allergic reaction to the cheese

Talk about a HORRIBLE first experience with this restaurant! My son decided to treat his mother, himself and I to a nice chippie delivery tonight. We were thrilled. He really wanted for us all to try Mario's as his friends in Kingswood like it and it is closer to us than our "tried and true" in Winterbourne. Having seen its reviews (and the gushingly fawning write ups in the Bristol Post) we were really looking forward to seeing what they are all about. Tonight they were all about promising a 45 minute delivery window to Emersons Green. It took an hour and fifty minutes. Everything was stone-cold. (Ninja air-fryer to the rescue) And if you are going to sell me two portions of "regular haddock", one of them shouldn't be approximately 2/3 the size of the other. The chips, while very plentiful, were quite literally SMASHED into a container much too small for the order. As they were cold, they were a congealed brick of greasy potato. The Chicken nuggets were "OK". The Squid bites were DISGUSTING... almost as if they'd been boiled in motor oil. Long story short... back to our "tried and true" in Winterbourne. (and their infallible 20 minute delivery time... to Emersons Green)

Second time in the last couple of weeks I’ve bought chips here and both times they have been soggy and tasteless….. both times ended in the bin.🙄😡.. no more.

Normally excellent fish & Chips, but this time the chips were dreadful, dry and chewy. They must have been reheated from lunchtime.

Overall a good experience. Really good, efficient service when at the counter and staff all seemed great. Fish in comparison to other places isn’t as good, but the chips are the best I’ve eaten recently from a chip shop. They have that sweet new potato taste which gives them great flavour that is lacking in other chip shops. Overall, a really good meal and will be coming back regularly.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming, it is always clean and tidy and most importantly your fish and chips are delicious.

If you want dry chips and wafer thin fish this is the place to go. £11.80 for fish and chips - really! I know it was meant to be large but just filling the bag up with chips is really not acceptable! Thought we'd give it a try after seeing how many people queue outside on a Friday. Shouldn't have bothered. Some people must have poor expectations. Won't be back!

Food is good , my daughter loves there chicken breast bites and my son loves the burgers. But last order the spring roll was cold inside. Also the sauces e.g gravy, curry sauce are small. The large is what I'd call small. Overall though a very good chip shop. Very clean, staff helpful.

Always use this little gem for our chippy tea. Best we’ve ever been to and we’ve been to a few ! Good value for money you get more than enough food. Great variety on the menu. And always a fast and friendly service !! We will continue to use this as our local chippy. Recommend to a fair few people who also now use it and won’t go anywhere else.

Been coming here yrs and the staff are amazing and friendly ...but the last few times I've been today being one some of the chips were rock hard in the middle . Very disappointing as I told them last time about it . Chips have gone down hill unfortunately

Great variety, not only fish and chips. Just had the special seafood basket. Lovely selection with tartar sauce and seafood dip. Massive small portion of chips would serve 3! Staff very organised and friendly.

The best fish and chips that I've had locally and beyond. Prices are average but quality is way above average, the portion size for chips is staggeringly big and is one of the reasons we come back again and again. Staff are all super friendly and they work incredibly hard.
