We visited this establishment for food & drinks last Friday. We ordered 2 sharer plates, one of which was the DIRTY FRIES, they were soo delicious!! They were absolutely covered in yummy bbq sauce, mustard & melted cheese with the odd bit of finely sliced chorizo here & there. So delicious in fact, that when we revisited last night we decided to order two sharer plates of THE DIRTY FRIES. Greedy I know. 😜 However unfortunately for us, it appears that the owner was cooking last nite, so you can imagine our disappointment when our plates arrived & our fries were anything other than DIRTY. ☹️ The waitress immediately told us that unfortunately the kitchen had run out of chorizo, so the cook had used bacon instead. Which we didn’t mind, but surely they should have told us that before presenting the plates of food in front of us? But the waitress was so lovely, we decided it wasn’t her fault, & the bacon would be fine. But after eating the top layer of about 4 chips, considerably less chips than the previous week I might add, we couldn’t believe that the rest of the chips on both plates, were totally dry, devoid of any topping, just big fat some of then slightly hard dry chips. 😩 We called the waitress over, & showed her the dry chips & asked her what had gone wrong, was it a different cook this week? She looked rather apologetic at our plates & told us as previously the owner was in the kitchen tonight & could she get us any sauce that might improve the situation. We agreed to her bringing us some bbq sauce which was hardly satisfactory under the circumstances, but the chips were cold, as well as hard & dry now. So in future IF & it’s a big IF, I decide to eat here again. I will certainly be checking who is cooking FIRST!! Such a shame…

Order got messed up, the chicken burger that arrived wasn’t chicken but a beef burger, didn’t make a fuss - no-one came to ask if everything was ok anyway! Started eating to find the burger raw, set it aside and pointed it out to staff when collecting the plates. They agreed it was raw, then did nothing! Followed it up as we left and luckily another member of staff confirmed that a refund was due. Refund received but very poor service!

I limped in here yesterday (10th August 2024) having had a bad fall on a grass slope after which it took me 40 mins to limp 0.5 mile to get to the bar. I was in terrible pain. I asked at the bar to see if they could supply some ice and without any fuss, a lovely man called Chris went off and returned with a tea towel full of ice and let me rest awhile. He offered to fetch my car for me and also gave me a refreshing orange juice. He and a colleague helped me to my car and he gave me ice for the return journey to York (my friend drove). Chris was so kind and supportive and went beyond what anyone might expect these days! I've called to thank him today after a trip to A&E but haven't managed to speak to him yet. I want to acknowledge his kindness and obvious professionalism as he knew exactly what to do to help me! Thank you Chris!

We only went to the Marine Bar for some food. It’s convenient for parking good views and seats outside if you want and service and staff were very good, pleasant and welcoming feel. Drinks not cheap but we’d accept that if we had a good meal. Food was very expensive for a bar. They had what they called a Senior Menu at £10.95 which was the cheapest meal. One of us had the Fish & Chips & Peas. 2 of us had the Pie & Chips & Peas. What a waste of money, these were the smallest portions imaginable. The Fish when arrived we thought was a battered sausage with just a very small portion of both chips & peas. Our portions of the Pie chips & peas was just the same, minute ! Yes we are pensioners and the meal was called Seniors but come on we have as healthy an appetite as anyone and expect a reasonable size portion and importantly we had paid what I consider to be a good price so not happy as felt we were taken for a ride. We go to the Premier Inn, Cookhouse along the Promenade every week it’s absolutely spot on and you can get 2 really GOOD meals for £10.95 in TOTAL but sadly forgot to book a table so it was a toss up between Witherspoon or Marine Bar ! We made a bad choice.

I have been here several times before and will always go back. It is a lovely place with very friendly staff and good food. I went with my sister and brother in law on a day trip and called into the marine bar. There was a senior citizens menu so they had the fish n chips and peas for about £19.99 for both of them. Mine were £14.99 but an excellent choice. Will always return here on my trips to Bridlington. Super thank you. Anne walker xx

Tues Sept 8th we decided to have a roast lunch at The Marine bar, having been there many times over the years and been happy with the food. In fact it was one of our favourite places to eat and have a drink. However, we ordered Roast beef and when it came the food was barely warm and served on cold plates. Maybe they hadn't even warmed it up? Usually we are told not to touch the plates because they are so hot! There was no Yorkshire pudding and even the waitress commented that they should have told us they didn't have any, when we ordered it. The potatoes were a strange mix of little Toasties with bits of bacon and something else mixed in?? The beef was very fatty. Veg (cauliflower and broccoli) cooked well but cold. Only thing on the plate that was steaming was the carrots!Usually the roast dinner is on their menu with a seniors option at around £6 but they only have the £10 option now.I cannot tell you how disappointed we were, needless to say we will not be returning for a long while, if ever! They didn't even bother to ask us if everything was okay. I should have sent it back but I just won't return - so they have lost a few regular customers.

We visited this bar the week previous and thought how nice the meals looked, this was on a Thursday, I say this as the government are currently subsiding eating out mon to Wednesday so we booked a table for the next Wednesday, well what a let down I think the kitchen staff felt that being as their food was half price they could present any old c—p and they did just that, my stake was under cooked and literally chucked on top of a few chips, my partners was just the same but with items missing . We scored the experience 4 out of 10, one final issue could the young lads ( boys) serving behind the bar just drop the well hard juvenile attitudes ! It’s embarrassing. I have to agree with the last review as we visited today and they served the food on side plates! Maybe it is instead of putting the price up, less food instead? We always make the Marine Bar our first choice for food when in Bridlington and normally they never disappoint. However, whilst I enjoyed what I ate, it was far too hot and burnt my mouth. The plate had obviously been warmed up in the microwave and should be served with a Government health warning. Such a shame about the tiny portion sizes and the overheating of the plates. Excellent, friendly service and very pleasant refurbished venue overlooking the sea.

Been going to the Marine bar for many years. 12 months ago we started having Golden Years meals and very nice they were too. Recently changed to pint sized plates which do not fill us even as pensioners. Quality of meal has not changed but to put it onto such a small plate I feel stigmatizes the older generation. Felt embarrassed eating from such a small plate, even a child might feel short changed. Smaller portions yes but plates the size of saucers not acceptable. We will not be having meals there again unless there's a change.

Didn't eat here just drank, we found it ok, it's a locals pub but there friendly enough after the initial stares you get. Bar staff are ok too, got served straight away, however I didn't see a price list (there probably is one somewhere) and last orders my drinks were suddenly over a pound more for same drinks I'd previously bought, I only got a pint of Foster's and a JD and coke, first round was 5.60, second he said 6.70 and when I pulled him he said 5.85, I'd like to think this was a genuine mistake but the till adds it up for you, so come on which price was right?

I immediately touched it and realised it was very cold so just out of the fridge and put on my plate with the bit of salad and chips.I complained and asked it be taken back and warmed up hoping it would improve the taste and appearance of the quiche.when brought back it was hot but had just been microwaved and then looked just as unappetizing and now was limp and soggy.I left all the base pastry and just scooped a little of the top off to try eating it. it was tasteless. awful.never had such a awful meal.my partner said scampi over cooked too.wont be returning for meal in the near future.

Given the initial attraction was real-ales and convenient situation on the front, the Marine Bar did not let us down on those. The pie'n'chips/fish'n'chips ordered by two of our party were considered to be good value for money and quite edible. Unfortunately (as if often the case in places like this) the limited food on offer for vegetarians was poor, to put it mildly. Frozen convenience food like 'chicken' Kiev and veggie-burgers are not lip-smacking offerings at any time, but when the 'chef' had finished with the cremation of the burger my heart sank (whilst my stomach was heading in the opposite direction). How it ever came out of the kitchen on a plate, rather than in a bin, was beyond me. I explained this to the manager and agreed to a refund, after the offer of a baked potato with cheese in was declined. Looking around in the restaurant it would appear to be popular for customers happy with the cheap'n'cheerful approach to eating out but a bit of a 'throw-back' in so many ways.

I was allowed to use this bar when staying in the adjoining hotel. The hotel bars only had 'chemical' beer and lager. There is access to The Marine Bar without leaving the warmth of the hotel. The staff were very accommodating and allow a taster before buying. The atmosphere in the bar was warm and welcoming. The prices are slightly lower than I expected as well.

We stayed at the Hotel next door and used the Marine bar a few times. Good service at the bar and although not an extensive menu, plenty of choice and freshly made especially the Burgers!!

These were the best fish & chips that we've had for a long time in a bar. The batter was lovely & crisp & the fish was lovely. Forget 149 this is the best & there's no problem parking outside.

Read the comments from the previous reviewer and can only say that some people take a lot of pleasing, my wife and I have eaten every Friday for the past 3 weeks where I have had fish and chips with mushy peas 1st week, chicken curry 2nd week and turkey and sausage pie last Friday and must say they were all pretty good although I will say the curry could have been a little more spicy but otherwise good.

When it comes to location, the Expanse Hotel is in a prime-seafront position, with a wonderful view across Bridlington Bay to Flamborough Head and a little gem if you like the romantic style of the 1920s/30s Art Deco period. We've never stayed there because we have family in the town, but we've attended functions and never been disappointed by the food or the staff.

We often sit and have a drink in the outside area if warm but only option if it is wet is to sit in the smoking area if you have a dog-not ideal for me. This meant we only had the one, before moving on but it is still a nice place to sit on sunny days-sea view over the parked cars

Always reliable. Great beer (although more summer ales would be nice!) We didn't eat here this time, but food is always good

We've visited several times and the pub serves a good selection of food and well kept hand pulled beers with frequent guest beers. It has been quiet and relaxing with an outdoor seating area overlooking Bridlington North Beach.Popular with older customers.WARNING. Don't expect quiet conversation on a Saturday night. We called after a long cycle ride, ready for a relax and refreshing drink. There was a "turn" on. The music was so loud we couldn't hear each other talking. We sat in the porch where it was a little quieter but not ideal as we were in the thoroughfare of the excited, beer filled clientele leaving and wobbling their way out.Might just be me that I"m the wrong age group for revelling, "more mature" disco's.Will definitely visit again but not on Saturday night.

3 of us ordered 3 different main meals. All 3 were served warm - definitely not hot.The burger bun was half black, tasted burnt so spoiled the burger, salad was iceberg lettuce with a few slices of tomato & cucumber. The medium rare steak was overcooked. We were inundated with flies whilst eating.Lovely place, friendly staff, we live in Bridlington and had been told to expect to pay £2 - £3 a meal more than usual - there are much better places to eat with exceptional food.

Decent selection of well kept real ales. Pub obviously takes pride on its offering and has received awards (Camra et al). Didn't eat on this occasion but it seemed a popular place to do so. Not exactly cosy mind and the beer garden (despite its sea views) is just a patch on concrete. Would visit again though.

Firstly very courteous and welcoming staff. Good selection of drinks including my favourite beer - Timothy Taylor's. Really impressed by the food we ordered, in some ways the usual seaside menu but prepared with great care and very tasty. Would definitely return.

We were staying in the apartments in the Expanse Hotel and as it was so close we decided to try it for convenience. it doesn't look so attractive on the outside but great home cooking at a reasonable price. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and the food very tasty.

Called here for the first time on a weekend visit to Bridlington. The bar was pretty busy and so was obviously a popular place. It had a nice atmosphere to it and a nice décor. The four of us had different dishes and we were all happy with our choices. Reasonably priced and we would be happy to visit again. Pretty extensive menu choices too

Rude young man behind bar more interested in chatting with his mates than serving (6pm Sunday) and then £1.50 for soda water…rip off! Cold and damp and no atmosphere! Won’t be back much much better pubs in town

Sarah was very attentive. The rest of the staff need to be trained by her. On booking to see if we could have a table the man wasn't, quite in the room

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Called in tonight as seen family pub and dogs welcome on their sign.....just our street. Well. Absolutely gobsmacked with the prices, cheep and cheerful. Brie, as discussed as in the cheese, absolute delight, what a barmaid! Signposted me to everything I was drinking and offers, could jot have asked more of her, saleswoman in the making!
