What a lovely place to go and relax. A nice beer next to the canal and a great food menu to chose from. I’m well impressed. Also the staff were so helpful.

Beautiful location with a canal running along side the pub and has outside seating area. Staff were all polite, friendly and very welcoming. I have 2 children with allergies and the staff were amazing and accommodated their requirements which made our visit very smooth. Food was delicious and kids loved the play area.

Sadly this place has gone down hill. I visit once a year for a week and stay at the hotel next door. The restaurant has dropped in many areas. Is dirty. Floors, carpets etc. Empty dishes sit on tables, well after guests have left. On 3 nights our dessert was delivered to the table and our mains plates were still there. Lots of items are off the menu, due to supply issues. It was easier to ask what was available. Staff didn’t check on us or show any attentiveness. Booking was problematic with apparently untrained staff. The manager was also pushy for reviews, highlighting a sign on the desk for nothing less than 5 star reviews on Google. It’s a bit cheeky to be honest. 1st night half the dinner meals arrived and we had eaten our meal fully before we chased the other meals 25mins later and they had been sat on the pass of the kitchen.

A pint of IPA tasted bad. They did replace with Doombar. I swear that the fish I had wasn't haddock. Which I paid extra for.

We spent the afternoon at the Triumph tour and booked dinner in advanced for 8 people (1 child) The staff were great, the manager was sett8ng up the table as we arrived and as I booked with a child, allocated a space near the play area which was brilliant. The carvery was great, the parsnips and potatoes weren't crispy but were delicious nonetheless. The mash potato was questionable looking so I steered clear but other members said it was nice. Two people had steak and they were fantastic! Bigger than I had anticipated and cooked exactly as ordered. Chips were crispy and all the food came hot. The only grumble we had was the children's portions. We had a 10 year old with us who was over the moon they has spagetti bologna on the menu. When it came, the bowl was the size of a teacup, and for the 'bigger childrens' portion size, it was disappointing. There wasn't alot of sauce, so it was quite dry. He ended up having the Yorkshire puddings which were unlimited, and was thrilled, but that was really the only let down. The carvery has unlimited roast potatos, however they were by the meat, so with a queue of people, they were not easy to access and refill as the vegetables, but still lovely. The chap serving the carvery was very friendly and chaty. We had a great time, and the IPA was smashing. We would definitely come back, however would order an adults meal as opposed to a child meal next time.

Lovely setting by the canal. Great way to spend an evening. Food was very tasty but service was slow. We had our wine served in gin glasses as the dishwasher hadn't been put on. Also, the bar was closed without calling for last orders, which was disappointing.

The front of house staff are brilliant, friendly and welcoming. The beer does what it should and is obviously well kept. On the whole the food is ok however like all chain pubs they have a tendency to over cook the food and throw it out without any quality control. This is fine on the saver menu but when you’re ordering something more expensive it’s somewhat upsetting. If they could get the kitchen up to the same standards as the front of house though it would be a truly special experience.

Experience is normally good but today and was not busy the table had not been cleared where we sat.No cutlery was brought to the table and we got off one of the other tables.Waited a very long time for dessert to arrive after eating. Not the service we normally get when we dine out

I booked a table for a meal at 6.30 and didn't get as far as sitting down. We stood in the booking in queue for 10 minutes and noticed that the person who was booking people in was also cleaning tables in between. The service was dreadful and everyone was complaining. We gave up and walked out, and went to Prezzo which was a far better experience We won't bother coming back.

Stayed at the Premier Inn, for the week and this place is the restaurant for the Premier Inn, it's really good and I enjoyed it a lot (Staff are the nicest)

We stayed in the hotel next door so had breakfast in the pub next door, honestly don't bother go and find a cafe nearby. Overpriced cold food, not much option and now they don't give you a butter option just flora which is vile. Never again

I’ve visited previously but never took any photos. Unlimited breakfast meals are becoming scarce, so I’m delighted that I’ve found one that isn’t too far away from home. It’s a help-yourself breakfast place. The food is nice for the money you pay. The menu has a selection of hot food, continental, and hot and cold drinks. You can’t complain for £10.99; it is money-saving and delightful.

boxing day, food was well below average, boxing day menu items not available although they were not busy,barman was rude, food was forgotten, then they closed the bar at 9 when on the timetable it said they were open until 11

Really well ran. I felt sorry that they had hardly anything on the menu due to delivery delays. Manager coped with situation well. It's hard to tell people there is a limited menu at this time of year

Nipped in for a hot drink to get out of the rain. We were told all tables were booked and we would need to sit in the bar. My elderly mother has recently had a stroke and we explained to the staff member that she couldn't get up onto the high bar chairs. The manager told us that was our only option or leave, so we did. Clearly they don't cater for disabled people. Never again.

We were staying at the Premier Inn next door so had breakfast there every morning which was great. We decided to dine in one evening during our stay. We got shown to our table, right in the corner with lots of families. We do not have children and because the area we were in was near the play area as you can imagine it was very noisy as children play, that's what they do. It would have been better to have seated us somewhere not so busy. One of the staff did speak to some children as they were just all running around where hot plates were being served. We were asked if we had any allergies to which I have. I was given the book to read and that was that. After sitting there for 20 minutes we realised that we had to go to the bar to order. I did relay this to the barman who apologised. The corner in which we were seated was absolutely freezing, my husband didn't take his fleece off at all and we even noted that one of the waitresses was wearing a fleece jacket. The food came out and it was lovely and hot. Not sure why the air conditioning was on though 🤔

There were plenty of spare seats when we arrived in the morning. A good choice of breakfast items, hot and cold food, and a good choice of hot drinks. Brewers fayre are the best.

Always recommend the breakfast buffet at these establishments for the £££ . Nice site by the canal especially when weather better . Entrance and exit a bit weird by volvo car dealership and garage . Plenty of parking . 1st time used but will use again

Birthday breakfast for nephew, was sceptical at first on the location choice, but what a great place, beautiful views of the canal and boats, huge garden to enjoy in the summer and a very reasonable price for breakfast. Whilst it’s self service the food was fresh, great tasting and hot. Good strong coffee and as it’s bottomless it’s even better! Well worth a visit if your local.

Good choice of dishes with all the usual staples on any pub grub menu (steaks,burgers,fish and chips ,pasta) something to suit all tastes and appetites. A highly recommended sunday carvery on offer here too (booking recommended). Nice setting where you can watch the canal boats go by either inside or outside on the terrace.Free parking (but remember to enter car reg details on tablet at restaurant check in) and a premier Inn there too.

We went on a Sunday for the all you can eat breakfast. Party of 14 so we did resrve a table before hand. It was busy but the staff were constantly bringing out fresh food so the queue was moving and the wait was not bad. Lots of food choices, hot and cold. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Play area was a bonus for the little kids we had with us, and all the under 12s ate for free. Would definitely recommend

we visited for a family meal. We was greeted by the manager and he shown us to our table. Ordered food and drinks, didn’t wait too long and the waitress was very friendly. All staff very welcoming, restaurant clean and tidy.

Went here with family and booked a table for 12 near children's play area as had children with us and 2 members of family with disabilities so find steps hard to use. It wasn't on computer but it was quickly sorted and we was soon seated. Went on to have a lovely meal and a fun time was had by the children too in the lovely play area.

Saturday morning breakfast. Booked a 10.30 table for two - no staff available, long queue, not seated until 10.50. Hardly any food left. Flies around the unclean drinks station. Filthy uncleared tables. A horrible experience which we will never repeat. Unable to leave feedback on the website, as it wasn't working properly! Dreadful place.

Booked for Sunday carvery for 7 of us. Arrived 10 mins early ans was told table wasn't ready. Ended up being seated 10 mins later than booking and once seated was told carvery had run out. As the main menu selection was not great and we wanted carvery we spoke to a lady who we think was a manager to see if there was anyway we could get carvery and why we wasn't told before being seated that it had ran out. The lady said well I was telling everyone and went off in a huff. Considering she checked us in she didn't tell us so that wasn't true. We decided to leave and because of the service asked for our drinks to be refunded as wasn't staying. The same lady huffed and puffed and eventually agreed. No apologies, didn't seem bothered was more of an inconvenience being there. Don't bother visiting go somewhere else awful.

Visited this place around one month ago with friends for lunch who we hadn’t seen for a while, neither of us are local so decided to meet here as was half way for all of us. We arrived and was greeted by a very snotty lady at the desk where you wait to be seated who quite clearly looked us up and down and spoke down to us leaving us all with a very negative vibe from the get go. Had we have not been with friends at the time then we 100% would not have dined here and would have walked away. It’s a chain pub so wasn’t expecting fine dining but the best thing about the food was the fact it came out to us hot! The standard of quality is I guess as expected however presentation was not there speciality we weren’t expecting a picture on a plate but was also expecting a little bit of pride in the presentation. Personally I don’t think it’s a lot to ask for as a paying customer. It’s safe to say we will NOT be returning here again to waste our money.

Can't fault the food. It's what you expect for this type of establishment but they put their own stamp on it. Affordable and tasty. Wide variety of beverages and refillable sparkling drinks ( coke ect ) On the last 2 occasions I've visited it has been bitterly cold inside which takes away from the warm cosy atmosphere you expect from a pub. Staff are pleasant and welcoming although have witnessed a few incidents with one of the managers and patrons. I guess these things are unavoidable. Parking is iffy, but if you're staying at the hotel then It shouldn't be an issue and if you are just popping in for a quick drink and a bite, if you find parking you must validate your parking inside on the tablet by the restaurant entrance. All in all a nice establishment with all the amenities you expect, and it's right in the canal so on a nice day it's lovely to sit outside and enjoy the boats coming and going.

Unable to review as staff left us waiting to long and we moved on to a different place

Cold carvery. We arrived at 12.30 ordered the food and oh dear. Tepid food and cold plates . We mentioned it to a waitress who stated she would let me return to the carvery as fresh hot food was just coming out of the kitchen , the food served should not have been luke warm. We also ordered another few items having checked the allergy menu and paid extra for vegan cheese on a chicken burger as my daughter has severe dairy allergy. The burger arrived in a brioche bun which are not dairy free and without the cheese. All round terrible service , food we couldn't eat and clearly staff not bothered about orders and dietary limitations. When we left I was ready to complain but no staff were visible to speak with. Sadly a total waste of money on food that should have been of a much higher standard , serving tepid food is not acceptable

Breakfast is great. We love the buffet with children; it's an absolute bargain!! We prefer to eat a la carte / non-chain pub dinners so can't comment on other food choice. Friendly staff and a little soft play which is a bonus for small children!

We visited here a few weekends ago, and it was very busy but the staff were great. My husband has food allergies and we were impressed at the helpfulness of the team. Even on a busy Saturday evening, we were seated and served in a reasonable timeframe.

Went to this restaurant this morning (30/06/2024) for breakfast. We went at 8 am and it was lovely and peaceful. The food was all really fresh and hot. There was lovely range if continental including fruit, yoghurt, granola and mini condiments like honey and golden strip. Alongside bread with butter/Jam/ nuttella and fresh pastries. Then there is the hot buffet breakfast including bacon, sausage, eggs, tomatos, mushrooms, beans and it was lovely and totally filling. There was fresh juice and different varieties of hot drinks and specialty tears. Probably my favourite breakfast buffet I have had in a really long time. Everything was just so fresh and cooked so well. The staff I interacted with were all lovely and the restaurant was very clean and well presented.

Went to breakfast on father's day, after we paid and sat down was told we have an hour as they need the table. 25 minute queue for food, coffee machine was broken foe the first half an hour, only milk alternative was soya, staff were rude when I asked if they had any other alternatives. Food was okay, except the pasties that constantly ran out. Two guys running were are rude and not interested

Very rude staff! I had booked a table for half six and asked to be put near the soft play area, as we were going so my little one could play. I arrived at 18:40 and apologised for being a little late. The staff member didn’t seem interested. He then showed me to a table far from the soft play area. There were two tables that were empty and closer, so I asked if we could sit closer . He said not unless you want to sit in their lap and pointed at the only table with customers!! He then showed me to a table far from the soft play again that had someone’s food and drink on there . He was very sarcastic and unprofessional for no reason

Just got back from eating here for the first time,and will definitely be returning to try other meals. Had the Smothered Chicken Platter,and could'nt fault anything from speed of service to quality of food,which arrived quite quickly. Highly recommended!!😁👍

Ordered lasagne with was served with a supposed salad. Say supposed because it was all centre core leaf which was thick and hard with very little greenery attached. No tomato, no onion, 4 very small bits of cucumber, a few bits of red pepper and loads of sweetcorn which I did not want or like. I've never seen sweetcorn in a salad before. Lasagne was very nice and hot. Coffee machine is a good idea for those who want refills. Variety of coffee is good.

A great location on the river with views of the houseboats which reminded me of Chelmsford. Food arrived quickly and was absolutely first class battered Haddock and chips. Generous portions and well cooked. Service was efficient and friendly.

Booked as we had a room in the Premier inn. Very loud, not just the people, also the music. Food wasn't great. Chips could of been cooked more as some of them seemed raw. service wasn't great. Waited ages for the food, even longer for the dessert.

Lovely location but lack of staff are really letting this place down. I’ve booked twice in the past month and food has taken almost an hour to arrive. No apology from staff. I have a birthday party and need a table for 10 but won’t return here until they sort out their staffing shortages. Real shame as being next to the canal is a lovely location.
