Why do people keep raving about these average places - I went last week and it's literally one of the worst Thai's I've had. Papaya salad was rubbish, Gra Prow wasn't even Gra Prow it was like some wet tastless sauce. Best thing was Satay chicken and even that wasn't that great

This is a really good restaurant with very high-quality food and an understandable queue outside. Try something you never had before, it will be very well worth it. I haven’t quite given it five stars because first the restaurant owners are quite keen to get you out quite quickly and secondly, it is rather cramped.

Came here on social media recommendations for my mums birthday. She loves Thai food. The starters aren't great.....we ordered 4 and they all arrived on the same plate, no idea of portion and mixed veg with meat. We have a vegetarian in the party so that wasn't great. The Thai salad was lovely, and the mains were fair to good. Other reviews of portion size Vs price are probably correct. The place only has one server together with the couple that own the place. It's very full but I wonder if it's really because of the bring your own alcohol as a pre-night out drink and food.

Had an All Day Breakfast, costing £8, but came away from the café still feeling hungry! The size of meal is small. Maybe other meals are better value? The café itself is a little scruffy, and in need of decorating and refurbishment. Although it is clean and tidy. I hope the owners read these reviews?

I only get to come here about once a year when I come to London but I always try to make time to come here. The lunchtime Thai menu is terrific. A big plate of chicken and chilli and sweet basil stirfry with rice. and a Diet Coke for £10.50 – what a bargain! It also does your Usual greasy spoon items if that is more your thing.

I have to start by saying that the food here is delicious. I ate here on my last visit, and if I gave a review it was five stars. Tonight I went, expecting to have a substantial wait to get in. When I arrived, I went inside and put my name on the wait list. I was told it would be a long wait. Then I went outside and waited one hour. In the meantime, dozens of people arrived after me, barged their way inside, harassed the hostess, and were seated. Not once in my one hour wait did someone come outside and call someone from the waitlist. I want to let fellow nice people know that you probably won't get in unless you're willing to be more pushy and less nice than everyone else. Thankfully, we had a lovely chat outside with some other nice people, and then had a delicious meal at Pizza Pilgrims down the street where we were treated with dignity and the food was also delicious.

Came here for a quick Thai lunch. I got the set green Thai curry with the spring roll starters and a coke for £11. The deal is a bit jokes because it roped me into the spring rolls which are a bit pathetic on first sight. They taste ok but it’s a poor sized portion for a starter. The curry is fine and for the price it’s a reasonable meal. I’ve had far better Thai meals but it’s a cafe lunch so it’s just about good. Benefit of the doubt gives it four over three stars.

Please refrain from eating at this racist establishment. I'm still in shock at my experience eating at Maria's Cafe this week. As soon as I walked through the door I was seated, and was told to immediately move to another table right by the door, to which I replied: "I'm fine where I am seated." Shortly afterwards I was told again, but more aggressively, to move, which I regrettably obliged. As soon as I sat down, the waitress told me to order, which I had no time to look at the menu and was scowled at for wanting to order starters first and have my main afterwards. The food was "meh", nothing outstanding, and somewhat tarnished by the racism and discrimination I faced, the racism was subtle but noticeable. I left before having my main and stupidly paid the service charge they inflicted on the bill, not to cause unwanted drama. Guys, let's not support businesses that don't deserve our money, which we work bloody so hard for. There are better Thai places in London, and it's time to take a hard stance against establishments that don't appreciate us as customers.

There are so many good eateries at Lower Marsh and this is one of them along with many new fresh spots coming along. Marie's cafe has seen it all, from the outside it would appear as a cafe which it is but when you go inside you will find that they serve Thai food as well as English fare. I dined there just for that reason, I had the usual breakfast fix, some dim sum and a Thai dessert with an English twist. However the chips were over done in my opinion and the dim sum was a bit too sweet. The Glutinous rice with English custard was surprisingly delicious.

No gracias no nada. Not sure whether to report this place to the food safety authority or to just leave a review here for future potential customers or both. Was invited there for a relaxed dinner on a weekday. The place looked rundown, with a sticky and outrageously dirty linoleum floor: so old that is all patched up with red tape. As you enter the restaurant you get hit by the smell of the drains in the toilet which are probably stuffed. As the place is quite small, the loo is basically inside the kitchen and right by the last row of tables, so you can enjoy a really gorgeous view of the brown/black edge of a prehistoric toilet seat fully open right in front of you while you eat your delicious curry: the door is always open, so don’t worry, you won’t miss the show! Just make sure you ask for the best seat! Cherry on the cake: MY CURRY HAD A PIECE OF CHIPPED CERAMIC PLATE INSIDE AND I FOUND IT IN MY MOUTH while naively eating. The worst thing was that the shard all broke into pieces as I chewed it together with that mouthful of curry so I had to spend the most horrific 15 minutes trying to get as much as possible out of my mouth and didn’t even manage to spit everything despite my efforts. I am still shook up and I don’t think I will eat in that or any other restaurant ever again for a good while.

I was making my way back to the Travel lodge where i was staying and found what looked like a greasy spoon cafe with a queue out the door at 7pm which looked odd. I ask someone in the queue and he told me that in the evening they do lovely thai food , so i tried it. It is no frills, and not somewhere for a romantic night, but i had the chicken pad thai and chinese tea and it was excellent, and all under a tenner, result! I loved that you just get seated wherever there is a gap, relax and enjoy the buzz. Leave your ego and english reserve outside and enjoy the experience.

Stumbled on this place one evening. Great Thai food in a proper cafe. The puddings are superb as well.

My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to Thai food for lunch while visiting London. We walked by one evening and the line was out the door and along the street. We thought since it received good reviews and we saw so many people that it would be delicious... it was NOT Thai food. We ordered the combination lunch with spring rolls. I ordered chili and basil with vegetables and my husband ordered the ginger beef. Our meals were identical, a basic generic Chinese brown sauce with chewy beef for my husband and no ginger. My dish had one small piece of Italian basil and absolutely no chili spices. It was takeout generic Chinese food absolutely not Thai. If you want Thai food you need to search elsewhere. If you want take out generic bland Chinese food you’ve found your spot.

I rarely leave reviews but I had to for this place - some of the best Thai food I've eaten and at such a reasonable price! Fun, cosy atmosphere, BYOB and lots of choice for vegetarians. We stumbled across this place by accident and I'll definitely be returning again and again.

I’ve been coming here for over 40 years since it was a real ‘greasy spoon’ cafe for the market traders. It started to serve Thai food in the 90’s but kept the traditional British breakfasts on the menu and is very popular. It’s had another recent makeover but it’s still got the feel of a traditional cafe and not always squeaky clean, but its a not exactly a Michelin star place. Alway busy lunchtime and good value and authentic Thai food cooked by Thai staff. They used to have a more upmarket menu in the evening with BYOB option. I’m not sure if this is still going. It used to be a bit of a hidden gem, but has become popular, even trendy.

I came as a group of 3 by chance when I fancied Thai in Waterloo. We went just in time as after we got seated, it got really busy. I can definitely see why!

Thai food was o.k., service was great and it was nice to eat near London Eye and cool Vans spray painted tunnel area in downtown London.

Sad experience at Mari's cafe. I used to love this place but now they just care about the number of costumers they have and the quality of their service has become so poor!

Rude staff, found hair in my food. Staff were defensive and argumentative about this asking myself and my friend to then leave after we complained about this.

Stumbled upon Marie's after existing Waterloo station and had a tasty cashew chicken for lunch at very reasonable price. Staff was helpful and pleasant--only short wait for take-away. Cash only.

Situated in Lower Marsh, just around the corner from Waterloo Station. Marie's Cafe is a hidden gem. It looks like a typical British greasy spoon cafe, and yes, they do traditional English bacon and eggs breakfasts. There the similarity ends. It is the home of Thai food that would be served in a Thai household. How do I know ? My son is Anglo-Thai and grew up in Thailand. He loves the place and he is very fussy about his food. He usually eats two, yes two main Thai courses and leaves with a smile on his face. He also likes to chat to the friendly staff in Thai.
