Went for lunch. Two people. Waited to be served 20 minutes before they took order. Then they wrote order on a napkin. Only three tables busy inside and two outside. Came back to us saying there were too many people and they would cancel the order -gobsmacked. Never heard that. Especially in a cost of living crisis. Unbelievable

Now if you read my other review's I would like to think I give an honest view and rating..So below is my review of Maria's.... It was “Popup Market Day” in Meanwood - we looked round and then decided to get something to eat. On arrival I noticed that there was sign on the door “Part-time Staff Required” – that should have been Alarm Bell 1. We selected our options there were 5 of us – 2 Veggie Breakfast, 1 Full Breakfast, Breakfast Roll and Cheese Sandwich with Chips… we had Tea’s and Coffee. Alarm Bell 2 – Toilet Facilities – as a member of the party commented “You can always judge a place by standard of the Loo”…. Too late we were 20 minutes in ….. Alarm Bell 3 – the young girl serving (it was clear it was her first day on the job) however the level of instruction and guidance being provided I would doubt she would be back for Day 2. I refer you to Alarm Bell 1. Alarm Bell 4 – 40 minutes in ….still no food but others appeared to be being served first….however others were asking for refunds… too late can’t back out now…its was gone Midday…asked when will our order be ready? “Soon”….if only. Alarm Bell 5 – 90 minutes part-order came, while the food was good the order was wrong, no hash browns or Black Pudding on the main breakfast and no cheese sandwich or chips… no refund or apology offered. Customer service was lacking (bit like my brunch) Now I know you are wondering “Why did you wait”…. If honest so do I …. By this time all hope had gone, I suspect that Lady, who was sort of running the Café was having a meltdown in the Kitchen probably due to fact that the Young Girl serving had just handed in her notice. On the plus side we did get to spend an hour talking and being entertained by the Chaos that was “Marias Café”. So if you have 90 minutes to kill and don’t need the loo….. Pop in …. You may get some food at some point – always check you order and cross your legs. What would I recommend "Waitrose's Cafe" on the other side of the road.

Horrendous. Cold food which took an hour. I had finished eating 20 mins before my girlfriends came and that was just microwaved eggs. Then tried to over charge me when the coffee is included in the meal. Terrible cafe and service do not visit.

Lovely cafe, went with my daughter. A great menu, with something for everyone. Tea was nice and strong and served in a large cup. Had the poached eggs and avocado. Absolutely delicious. Fast and friendly service too.

I took a walk to the bakery to see if they supplied fresh bread. I checked the opening hours and when I arrived it was closed. Wasted journey. Looks a nice place from the outside though.

We’ve just been to the art gallery café for lunch we won’t be going back. They sell scones but they’ve run out of jam What kind of business can’t even organise going to the shop and getting a pot of jam. Leeds city council should be ashamed of themselves.

A large, airy and light-filled pub (for a change) with plenty of outside seating near the City Museum- a short hop from culture to chaos! The young workers were efficient, very hard-working and helpful. What is distinctive about this place (and its saving-grace) is that it has a sufficient number of students to keep the place on an ‘even keel’ (for example, talk of Trump’s superior IQ is, mercifully, rare). TOP TIPS: (1) choose outside or gallery seating for a relatively blissful experience ; (2) in general, choose a Spoons having a reasonably high proportion of students (albeit with a modicum of immaturity and ‘lively’ behaviour). In this way, relative sanity and intellect may well prevail.
