What a lucky find. We were looking for a light lunch and spotted Maria Chica while driving past. The welcome was very warm to a lovely Tapas Bar. The choice of food and the quality were excellent- we were sorry not to be hungry enough to enjoy a full meal. Would highly recommend, it was all a delight.

We dined last Saturday at the 8pm time slot, on arrival we were the first, however within minutes every table was full. Recommendation is 3 or 4 dishes per person and they were spot on, the octopus was excellent, as was the duck, in fact everything was very good. Good quality food and excellent service, highly recommend you book.

I had no great expectations of this restaurant, but it was much, much better than I expected. I am a vegetarian, the person I was with is a vegetarian who can't eat wheat but we had plenty of choices. And they were good: not too much, and really well made. We're going again, for sure.

My second visit and what quiet joy. Delicious food and excellent caipirinhas. Loved the Beet Balls, calamari and croquetas. Best affagato I’ve had in England. Only wish they were open for longer.

Visited here after reading reviews and couldn’t have been happier that we did . Friendly, knowledgeable lady took our order, food took a little while to be served, usually a good sign. Octopus, salt cod and potatoes, clams, Brazilian fish stew and some artisan bread to mop up the delicious sauces…accompanied by a bottle of house Rose and finished off with affogato. Really couldn’t fault anything (also, lovely clean toilets) and the prices were good too. Just a shame we don’t live close enough to visit regularly but will be back when we can

This offers exceptionally tasty tapas, a gem of a find. Helpful staff in a family run cafe who deliver on flavour. They accommodate special diets , gluten free, dairy free, vegan and even do a vegan gluten free mousse.

We were out exploring the Cornish coastline keeping an eye out for somewhere to stop for lunch, when we came across this cafe. Now a Brazilian tapas wasn't exactly what we had in mind, but it sounded interesting and the cafe looked nice so we thought we would give it a go. So pleased we did, attractive little cafe with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere and friendly owners. We had a selection of tapas, a pudding and coffee and all was fantastic. Shame we were driving as we could have happily had a bottle of wine and spent the afternoon there eating more tapas 😊

Our third visit and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Very good service and excellent food. Would strongly recommend to anyone. When we are next in West Cornwall we will call again.

Looking for lunch after having walked from Cape Cornwall to Pendeen and found this excellent welcoming warm haven for lunch. Brazilian tapas all freshly prepared & very tasty all served by Maria.

We weren’t able to get a table at the Geevor tin mine so decided to stop here which is literally a 2 minute drive away. We are so glad that the tin mine restaurant was full as this place was a gem of a find. The food so fresh and service so friendly. If you go to the tin mine be sure to come here afterwards.

Staying in Pendeen and found this on tripadvisor.What a great find! We had Cod with dauphinoise potatoes, Calamares and Broad beans with Chorizo - all of them really good. Our Vegan friend had a wide choice of options - but chose Beetroot meatballs (plus others). Ther place appeared empty when we arrived and we discovered that the first sitting had finished and the next was about to start. It feels like a coffee shop rather than a restaurant.Staff were lovely - very friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return!

We so enjoyed our meal in Maria Chica tonight that I felt energised to post a review. This is a lovely small family cafe in a this quite remote part of Cornwall. After reading the reviews we expected a nice meal but didn’t expect anything as wonderful as we were treated to.From the outside it doesn’t look like much, very unassuming but once inside it feels very welcoming and relaxing. COVID measures are absolutely effective and feels very safe without losing the warm family feel.Some reviews say the bill can mount up, well yes it can, but the prices per meal are clear on the menu, so you are in full control. There are plenty of dishes for £4/5 to choose from and 6 dishes is plenty for a couple so no reason to go above £15 each if you wish. We added the pork belly and lamb which were a bit more but sooo worth it!! Wine is fairly cheap too and very good quality, so good we even bought a couple to take home with us :-).Our fav dishes were the beetroot meatballs and chicken in sweetcorn, just because they were totally new to us and delicious... but to be honest all were incredibly good and I expect we’d have loved every dish available! (Their desserts looked wonderful too by the way...)Thanks to Team Maria for our lovely evening and we’re very jealous to all of you lucky enough to enjoy after reading this.

We came across the cafe by accident. We had been looking for somewhere to have lunch and the pubs we had stopped at needed to be pre booked (due to Covid). This is a great place to eat. The staff are friendly and helpful and the surroundings are bright and clean. The Portuguese themed menu is varied and extremely tasty. Very recommendable, definitely worth a visit.

Having looked on trip advisor prior to my stay in Pendeen, this cafe came highly recommended and having visited I can see why! As my partner said, Best Tapas he’s ever had!I’d recommend the prawns and calamari, and for dessert we were told to try the Serradura, which was an absolute treat!If you are staying in the area, or not, it’s definitely worth making a trip here! We look forward to our next visit!

Fantastic surprise in Pendeen. Amazingly tasty tapas with loads of vegetarian choices. The calamari was super tasty - some of the best I have had. Really tasty beetroot “meat”balls with a delicious fruity tomato sauce. Also great value for the quality - £40 for two including two rounds of drinks. Book ahead as it was very busy of a Friday evening. Recommended.

We went to the cafe twice during our recent stay in Pendeen. The first time was just for cake and a coffee and the second time was for evening tapas. I have to say that the cake was equally as good as those which we had in previous visits to Pendeen with the previous owners. The tapas variety was extensive and gave us problems in deciding our choices. We ended up sharing 4 dishes plus bread and olives and that was plenty. The service on both occasions was friendly and very efficient. All social distancing measures were in place as well as sanitisers and cleaning. Well worth a visit and we will be back

Wow! When I booked a week's holiday in remote Cornwall I wouldn't have believed that the local village would hide a Portuguese gem. Having booked online we received a typically friendly Portuguese welcome. The menu was a mixture of temptations and we struggled to narrow down our selection. Grilled prawns were juicy and meaty, meatballs in a sauce to die for, clams in sauce so good we had to mop it up. However, the stars of the show were the succulent calamari and the indulgent belly pork. Dessert was simple, pastel de nata - now a staple of the British High Street - but here authentically crispy and richly sweet.Many thanks guys you've made a great impression on us.

Little local Brazilian / Portuguese Tapas that is a superb tasting experience. Almost opposite Geevor tin mine, this restaurant gets lots of locals and tourist trade, but never seems busy or rushed. I love it. Plenty of choice including many vegetarian dishes. We spend a fair bit of time in Cornwall and have eaten in lots of place, this little place is right up there.

A few more visits since my first review and this place remains top notch, service spot on, great coffee fabulous tapas.....so good. Going back February.....

What a little gem of a place. Great owners and fabulous food. By having small dishes of things you can try different things and eat as much or as little as you like. Its great to try so many different dishes at once. Will be a regular outing for us now. So glad to have found this on our doorstep.

Visited this delightful restaurant at lunchtime and it was quite busy but Francesca and her son made the whole exoerience very pleasant for us. They advised us on what to choose as this was our first experience of Portuguese tapas. The chef was Francescas husband and his food was cooked to perfection with plenty of choice including vegetarian options. The atmosphere was relaxed and the views of the ocean were fabulous. The restaurant is situated on the coast road in Pendeen which is roughly 6 miles from Penzance and the same from Lands End. Parking is on the road but there is plenty of room. It was a very pleasant experience and we will definately be going again. Booking is advisable especially during the summer months.

Lovely restaurant with views of the Atlantic and I reckon will be packed from Spring onwards. Great menu selection with good range of very tasty tapas dishes.Very friendly service and all dishes modestly priced. We didn't get the chance to try their lovely range of cakes which we will do on our next visit which will be very soon.Highly recommended.

As a party of 7, we visited Maria Chico on Saturday the 2nd of November for an evening out and keeping an open mind to our expectations. We were welcomed by our hosts in a warm and friendly manner. The service was second to none and the food was fantastic. Our orders were taken professionally and arrived at our table in good time. We injected a little fun singalong into the evening and even the chef came out and joined in.We, as a party on the whole cannot recommend Maria Chico enough. When we visit Pendeen again next year there is no doubt as to where we will dine.Thank you to the whole staff for looking after us so well.

We found Maria Chica when out for a lunchtime walk from our holiday cottage in Lower Boscaswell - and what a find! The owners being Portuguese (she) and Brazilian (he), the tapas-style food is amazing, great value, and a really pleasant surprise. We had five courses, a couple of puds and a glass of their wonderful sour-cherry liqueur and enjoyed it all. We’ll be back!

The 2 lady "owners" (I assume) were delightful and service was very good - polite but funny and smiley! We had a great evening and we bought some of the fab chocolate designs they sell as well. As the name suggests - brilliant food and service. Not a lot of space so best to ring, though there is an outside area. Mainly Portuguese influence.

The food itself was absolutely delicious, huge variety, plus loads of choice for veggies. Even if you eat meat I would highly recommend the beetroot meatballs!! Fantastic.Am quite perplexed by the previous negative review which I read before coming, but we're glad we chose to ignore it as I think they clearly must have been in a different restaurant! Have just enjoyed a wonderful lunch time meal at Maria Chica with friends. The staff are so welcoming and attentive with a special five stars to the lad who is working with them for the summer season! Food was fresh and perfectly cooked, good helpings and was very tasty. Stayed locally and visited for an evening meal. Food was nice but the beef dish was quite dry. Interesting place for a tapas but it was full amd you would need to book.Be careful as the cost soon mounts up when ordering tapas.Not sure the service was that friendly if am honest and I expected with such a small establishment that it would have been.On the whole we enjoyed the food but was the most expensive meal of our holiday.Not a massive amount of choice locally though so this is worth a visit.

Just come back from my birthday meal here with my family. Absolutely wonderful Tapas served with care and a smile by two lovely ladies. The tastes were superb and we all enjoyed trying to pick our favourites at the end of the meal - hard, as it was all lovely. We would recommend the Prawn crepes and the Lupin beans. The Beef and Salt cod dishes were also superb. We also enjoyed a very refreshing jug of Rose Sangria and delicious coffee after the meal. The biggest compliment of all though is both of our sons eating all of the dishes - this never happens.Thank you ladies and keep up the great work.

Pleased to see these premises back in use and what a use! Third visit, second for tapas, with 6 at the table we managed a selection of 18 dishes...all outstanding however the homus, prawn crepes, meatballs, chorizo bread, chorizo chicken, salted cod, calamari were all super and worth a try... the service is tip top and the ice cream espresso is yummy!

Really enjoyed the food here. The service was good too. I think there is a difference between ‘home cooked’ and ‘home made’ , as a couple of the dishes looked a bit to uniform in size shape and colour to be homemade. But I could be wrong. That said, the food was lovely, will be returning.

When complete strangers are leaning across each others' tables to swap notes on their meals and there is a happy, excited air in a dining room, then something special is happening. This unassuming "corner shop" - style eatery is a real find. The food is beautifully flavoured, expertly cooked, reasonably priced and "different" - but not at all intimidating. It's a family-run business; the sisters in the front of house clearly love their jobs and are having a lot of fun. We had a lovely lunch there, and went out of our way to return for dinner. The locals clearly know they have a treasure here - lucky them!

What a delightful place is Maria Chica. An extensive and adventurous menu of delicious Portuguese food. Fresh and tasty and a lovely light and airy ambience. It's tapas style, so good to order two dishes. Vegetarians and vegans are well catered for and there are plenty of side dishes too. Desserts are all wonderful and I especially love the afogatto (a ball of vanilla ice cream with an expresso poured over it!) and a dark chocolate button on the side.Many homemade chocolates are for sale too. Always a warm welcome here from the friendly owner and staff. Happily recommended!

Called in initially for a coffee on our first day of our holiday. We just felt the ambience was great. Not pretentious at all, but clean, airy and professional. So when we saw that the were open Friday and Saturday for evening meals, we immediately booked for the Friday. Evening meals are tapas based, l was a little unsure that a small cafe restaurant would deliver fine food with so many choices (about 20) . But l needn’t have worried. The menu is varied and includes vegetarian and vegan options. 3 or 4 options each were enough. The two ladies who run the restaurant are Portuguese and the chef is Brazilian, so the menu reflects this. And very successfully so. I finished off with a Portuguese Egg Custard Tart, small but good. They have a small wine selection and a Portuguese bottle beer ( Super Bock) which l must admit was nothing to write home about ( l was driving, so no big deal). Including coffee, two wines, beer and pudding, the bill was £57 which we thought was good value. Service was good, food was individually cooked and yet there was little delay. Need to book in advance for evening meal. Plenty of street parking, especially on the side street next to the restaurant. Although we did not try the daytime menu, the breakfasts looked nice, and the cakes......
