Fabulous. Expensive. Lamented... We made our annual trip to London in December and wanted to sample Marcus one final time before it closed its doors. Very expensive (almost £500 for 2 but that included £191 for drinks and £61 service). Cannot say that was value for money but one final chance to enjoy this restaurant meant it was a special treat. I indulged in Sweetmeat followed by Venison, my wife had Crab followed by John Dory. All cooked to perfection. We then shared a wonderful cheese selection before departing. Thanks for the memories!

I booked Marcus few weeks for my husband ahead of our arrival yesterday for lunch. This restaurant has been on my bucket list for long time and love Marcus’s recipes and he is one of my top favourite chef’s. When booking I asked about the set lunch menu at £65 pp and I clearly made the restaurant aware that I have all fish/ seafood allergy and prefer not to eat pork. I was told this would be fine and chef would prepare alternative menu. I asked for the menu to be sent to me. I was contacted the day before our lunch for confirmation and asked again for menu options available and was informed that the chef was aware and expected to receive email. On the day I made the waitress aware prior to ordering. I have had a difficult year and this was a treat to us both. The food we had was amazing however no vegetables side dishes were available except for roast potatoes. The portion sizes were small. My husband stuck with the set menu but I had no option but to order from the Ala carte menu which was double the cost of the set menu. I am very disappointed that whilst you state your chef can accommodate alternatives if sufficient notice is given this did not happen!! For a Michelin starred restaurant this I found hugely disappointing! I didn’t make a fuss as much at the time but the head waiter Ednor made promises an email would be sent by him in the afternoon which I have yet to receive! On top of that the compulsory service charge should have been removed as I feel let down and paid over the top cost for a small portion meal. I ordered decaf tea which had to sent back as I had loose leaves with no strainer then the second pot was still weak! by then I just couldn’t be bothered to ask for third pot!! This was a shocking expensive meal for us at this time of year when we specifically asked to book your set lunch menu!! If the restaurant cannot accommodate please make sure you make your guest aware beforehand they have no choice other than pay the alacarte menu. Ednor reduced the cost by £20, which did nothing!

Absolutely Phenomenal by Marcus Wareing, from MasterChef the Professionals on TV. Is This The Best Cod Dish in the World? This beautiful Cod dish is totally sensational. It's bursting with several remarkable and beautiful flavours, each popping different taste buds. It's like a FUN & Exciting Firework display popping in your mouth. The BEST and most tasty food dish I have had all year by far. Well Worth the visit & Highly Recommended. The staff, including Ednor, Lucas, and George were all phenomenal and real superstars. The service was impeccable. The foods are wonderful, and the wine list is very extensive running to some 60 pages.

The mark I’ve given is perhaps a tad harsh but when you’re a Michelin Star restaurant charging for a meal that costs the same as a short holiday, I think it’s right to judge by the highest of standards. We can’t fault the food and we were absolutely full by the end of it, which hasn’t been the case in other Michelin star restaurants. The portions were generous and the flavours were exquisite. I’ll be intrigued to see where Marcus moves to as the restaurant at the Berkeley is a stunning, yet strange setting. It was like entering a maze! The actual restaurant room was overly warm (although I was wearing a jumper!) and it’s a shame you can’t see anything of the kitchen, as that’s always interesting to observe. The service was very friendly (multiple staff wished my wife a happy birthday, which was the reason for the occasion) but the atmosphere and service was also quite rushed and chaotic. We’d barely sat down before we were asked for our choices. I also think the sommelier was a bit miffed when I chose not to order from the wine menu. After asking for an alternative menu, I was brought a cocktail menu but a few minutes later, it was taken away without my order being taken. 10 minutes later, I was still without a drink and I had to ask again. Overall, it was a nice experience and the food was superb but for the price we paid, including a compulsory 15% tip, you expect the absolute BEST in service to go with it. We won’t be going back but that’s more because we can’t afford to go for this type of meal very often.

We are so sorry that this restaurant is closing in December. This wasn’t our first visit and all the good things from before were evident. Very welcoming, professional staff. From the moment of arrival you are made to feel like a special guest. Everything runs like clockwork. All the staff know their individual roles and fill them to perfection. The decor is attractive and the atmosphere calm but not stuffy. And the food is beautiful. Small plates, exquisitely presented and well described by the staff. We would love to return, but sadly that’s not to be. Best wishes to everyone of the staff in their next venture.

The setting was lovely, except there was a slight unpleasant aroma coming from the air conditioning unit, but the staff rectified this as soon as they were told.My wife had the 7 course tasting menu. Every dish was beautifully presented and lovely.I unfortunately became ill, absolutely nothing to do with the food. But can I say the staff were exceptional in making sure I was OK, had enough water and any other way they could make me comfortable during the meal. I had to stop eating, which was really upsetting as it was our anniversary, but I wanted to stay so my wife could complete the meal, which I had planned months in advance. The sommelier was so friendly and helpful in picking what was a lovely wine to pair with our meal.100% I will revisit and have another beautiful meal.

We chose Marcus as we've been watching him on MasterChef for many years. The restaurant did not disappoint - fantastic attention and service from the many staff, beautifully presented food with exceptional flavor. The restaurant is buzzing and casual, in comparison with other restaurants of this calibre. We enjoyed the 5 course menu with the additional cheese course along with the 'introduction' wine pairing which was a half-glass per course. It was the perfect amount. Every course was again our favorite so impossible to choose what we loved most. We would happily return - exceptional meal start to finish. And the restaurant is situated in The Berkley hotel - amazing hotel.

A superb return to Marcus after yet another lock-down closure…... What a pleasure it is to be a restaurant that is completely at ease with itself and completely at the top of its game. As I said in my TA reviews before, in terms of sheer food quality, this place takes some beating….I went for the three course set lunch, with the sommelier matched three wines. My English seared asparagus was superb and the lamb, cooked rare, was sublime. The set lunch is a steal in terms of the quality. It’s quite interesting to note that compared to other top restaurants in London, Marcus has a more traditionally British clientele - could be to do with the provenance, the cuisine and the ambience. The food and the wine here are superb, as is the customer service. Marcus has the best Britishingredients with a great French twist. The French dominated wine list is very good and for a top class restaurant, wines by the glass - of which they have many- are actually quite good value. The complete package was a lovely experience and was very uplifting in Brexit and Covid depressed London!London has one of the best restaurant scenes in the world and Marcus is one example of that.

All I can say is wow! An excellent experience from start to finish! The food and the service were incredible. We went to celebrate my husbands belated 40th birthday and we were certainly not disappointed. Very attentive staff, even noticing that I eat left handed and when placing my cutlery down for my main, they placed it correctly without me even saying a word. Our drinks were always topped up and the staff were always available without being intrusive. They were happy to answer any questions we had about the menu and made us feel very relaxed. We had the burrata and beef tartar to start and both exceeded our expectations. Presentation was spot on. For our mains I had the beef fillet, which is the best beef I have ever tasted! Melted in the mouth with a lovely rich bordelaise sauce and beef fat potatoes. My husband had the turbot, again another incredible dish. No room for desserts but we did have some complimentary petit fours with our coffee and my husband was given a mango mouse dessert with a candle for his birthday. I have seen a couple of negative reviews which I find hard to believe as our experience was the complete opposite. We had a fantastic evening and couldn’t find a fault in anything.

Tonight's meal at Marcus was so disappointing - a real embarrassment to a great chef's name. Absolutely shocking experience. From the outset service was terrible, after 1 hour we had been given just a glass of water each, upon chasing up our drinks we waited a further 15 minutes, had to chase up again and then had to return the drinks order because they were so poorly made. The 7 course taster menu wasn't great, very over rated, over cooked and the service throughout was the worse I have experienced for many years, a drive thru or road side cafe provides much better service. We had to clear our own table several times of glasses and used dishes and continually request further drinks all night. We only had three drinks each in the 3 and half hours it took for this shambolic service .Some staff didn't care and had very poor attitudes. I ended up emailing the restaurant from our table to ask for service to our table. They have all the chat but sadly the food and service is something I have never experienced anywhere before. It was so embarrassing and such a disgrace to then be asked to pay £500 at the end what an insult. There are much better restaurants in London for both food and service - don't waste your time or money here.

I was a bit worried about visiting Marcus for the first time having seen some of the recent reviews. We were due to come last May for our 25th wedding anniversary but obviously had to rearrange so thought there might be too much pressure and expectation to live up to.First thing that surprised me was how relaxed it was.We went for the seven course tasting menu which was amazing with a couple of exceptions. The amuse bouche and petit fours were not great and it was strange to have the burrata started with bread on top of the three different sorts of bread already served up.However the scallops were amazing and the lamb out of this world.Service was efficient although there wasn’t a great deal of interaction. It’s far from cheap but for a special occasion well worth it.

We were so looking forward to this after the lockdown. We left saying maybe Marcus should send his staff to his TV programme to learn a few lessons. So many basic mistakes, I simply would not go back or recommend this restaurant. We had the 7-course tasting menu:1) The amuse-bouche was divine. Set some very high expectations which sadly were not met. Not even close.1) The burrata starter. The sugar disc on top of mine was broken and sliding off the burrata. It came out anyway. Certainly not what I would expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant.2) Scallops - beautiful. We agreed it was the best dish in the menu.3) Slow-cooked Bantam egg, confit chicken leg, pickled trompette, chicken fat mayonnaise - first and sadly not last disappointment of the night. The chicken confit leg was incredibly dry. My egg was overcooked on the inside and raw on the outside. I wasn't sure whether to complain or congratulate them on having achieved that. My husband's was just overcooked inside and out. At least he got a cooked white... I told our waiter that I'd like to provide some feedback (I specifically said it was not a complaint, just feedback). I showed him my raw egg white. He tried to defend that it was right, putting it down to being slow cooked. I then, using logic, said that surely the outside should cook quicker than the inside, and also enquired why my husband's was different. He said he'd show to the chef and let me know. We never heard back. 4) Rose veal - the taste was absolutely phenomenal. Could have been the star dish if it hadn't been dry. 5) Duck - first of all, in terms of presentation, mine had garnishes that were missing on my husband's. Secondly, mine was well cooked and had the right texture, my husband's was very chewy.6) First dessert - it was frozen (to be clear, it was meant to). When after trying hard I could not get my spoon into it (it was very hard), I asked a waitress whether I was meant to use my hand to eat it instead of cutlery. She looked at me like I'm an absolute savage and said it's meant to be eaten with a spoon. So we kept on trying... Luckily another waiter took pity on us fighting with that dessert and offered a fork. Call me demanding, but when the bill comes to £180 per person, I expect the service to be a tad more attentive. The dessert was OK, not very much to our taste, but there was nothing wrong with it. 7) Second dessert - really really lovely. It would be among the 3 dishes in the menu that we'd save (along with the veal and the scallop). Additional comments:- The service was inconsistent. Between course and course we sat in front of our empty plates for I'd say (being conservative) at least 10min. They were 100% on the ball with the drinks, however. - Most staff members were incredible, a couple were aloof and slightly arrogant. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience. I appreciate hospitality staff have been a long time off the game and people may be rusty. We would have completely forgiven the slow service if we had been served adequate food. However, basic mistakes such as overcooked meat or eggs, chewy duck, or lack of consistency in the plates and service simply are not acceptable in a fining dining restaurant such as Marcus.

Very sadly not the same dizzy heights as our previous visits .Our table was booked for 8:45pm but it was after 9:30pm before we received our wine and first course . Getting the wine was an awkward experience we asked the sommelier to recommend a good white burgundy which he chose only to come back five minutes later saying they had run out so he chose another five minutes later he came back with the same story so third time lucky he came back triumphant with a bottle of red! My wife spotted it first and told him we had asked for white wine so back comes the wine list and finally after twenty minutes we got a very nice bottle of white burgundy not a good start.I must say we busted a gut trying to get a table we were staying at the Berkeley which we have done for over 25 years and it was lovely to be back it was the concierge that finally got us in after a cancellation which seemed to be happening a lot as we could have also gone to a couple of other top restaurants that put us on cancellation lists. Our previous evenings at Marcus have been very special but you wouldn’t think it was the same place .We went on a Saturday night so we had the seven course tasting menu ,the amuse bouche was dull, the first course proper was Burrata which was also a bland dish and mine was very different from my wife’s it looked like two different people had assembled them.Next up the slow cooked Bantam egg was tasty but the yolk was hard and the white very runny, next up was in my opinion the worst course or at least joint worst I don’t think I’ve seen a scallop so unloved ,over-cooked ,over-flavoured and cold .The duck should have a mention as it was tough almost un-chewable ,the one constant problem we had was the food and plates were cold which wasn’t surprising as the system of delivery was clearly flawed a member of the team brings the food out on a tray and stands in the middle of the room waiting until a waiter or two takes the dishes to the table quite often she was waiting for what seemed like ages.I had a running dialogue with the waiter serving me so he wasn’t surprised that I was dissatisfied and he was very apologetic I did feel for him as he did a good job but I’m not sure the rest of the staff were as focused , when he brought the bill he had taken one persons food off which is a very generous gesture which is appreciated but I had a rubbish night and as we were prepared to pay around £500 for the night it wasn’t about saving money .As the couple on the next table left they must have overheard but wanted to say they agreed with everything we’d said and couldn’t wait to get back to Hospital Road and Petrus let’s hope they aren’t suffering like Marcus. You would have thought after such a long time out restaurants and their owners would be raring to go with an exciting menu and the team should be buzzing.

I’m very fortunate to say that I have frequented many a Michelin starred restaurant over the years. What I have found over the years is that people try to complicate the menu, by offering food combinations that aren’t necessarily necessary, just far too extravagant. Almost showing off.I am very embarrassed to admit that this wonderful establishment‘ passed me by, as part of me knew before I had even attended what type of dinner I was going to get. But boy oh boy am I pleased that the wait is over. This is a superior gastronomic experience. I’m proud to be British after this meal.Marcus is set in a typically quintessential and Regal hotel in the heart of Knightsbridge, where the ambience delivers an aura of class and sophistication but with a relaxed feel that wasn’t stuffy. Whilst you would expect to receive impeccable service, the true nature of the staff shone through with the huge bright smiles and a natural ability to make you feel at home. It almost felt like you walk round to your grandparents on a rainy Sunday, where you’re greeted by someone who just loves you and wants to make sure you go home well fed. It might of been a good few months since they were open, because of the pandemic, but the staff certainly understand how to make you feel brilliant and they weren’t rusty in delivering quality knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the whole meal. What followed was a taste explosion by using the most simple of well cooked ingredients throughout a seven course tasting menu. I was taken on a journey on all things Brittish, by experiencing a balance of natural flavours, that were cooked well, and presented like an art form. Whilst it was so simple and effective, it certainly didn’t lack in flavour. Every course was stunning, faultless in fact, and gave me what was an absolutely outstanding perception of what classic British food should be. We paired with the sommeliers choice of wine throughout the whole process, and individually the wines may not have been outstanding, but they certainly partnered our food completely. They partnered so well they were probably giving each course a big hug along the way! Some people may call this type of meal old-fashioned, but actually I found the whole experience incredibly refreshing. This is how you run a restaurant, this is how you present food, this is how you turn simple menu options with good quality produce into a stunning display of how we should all be eating!Marcus should be proud to have his name above this door, even after all these years.

We ate here on the first Saturday night since lockdown, we decided to have the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing. All the staff we encountered were helpful and attentive, when the food was served they were informative and had an excellent knowledge of ingredients and wines. We really enjoyed the experience and would return to try other dishes. Marcus sets the bar high for fine dining even after the long lockdown closure.

Great to be able to get out to restaurants again following the enforced closure. We had booked originally for 2020 and were so glad to be able to finally get to visit. The food was as you would expect from a restaurant/chef such as this and the service exceeded expectationsThese type of restaurants will never be cheap however we felt what we paid was good value for money for the food and service that we received

We were really looking forward to our dinner at Marcus but left feeling disappointed. When we arrived a member of the Berkeley staff showed us to the restaurant, where we were handed over to a member of the Marcus staff. Her first words after checking us in were to ask if we would keep our coats? So for the whole meal I sat with my coat over the back of my chair. Not what I would expect at a fine dining restaurant. When we had ordered wine and water I unwrapped my napkin to find it was crinkled, not laundered properly. The flowers on the table had wilted and were almost dead. The food itself was good, nothing special. As it was Saturday we had no choice other than the 5 or 7 course tasting menu but that was ok by us. We love tasting menus. However, the person on the pass was clearly not up to the job as several courses came out different. My husbands plate and mine were not dressed the same as we would expect from a restaurant of this standard. In fact, on one occasion I actually queried what was on my husbands plate as I couldn’t see one of the elements on my own plate! Finally I found it by turning the plate around. The staff were there to do a job and that was all they did. No communication other than to describe the dish, no interaction, no friendly chat as we’ve experienced at other restaurants including one restaurant we visited with 3 Michelin stars. No-one asked how we had enjoyed a dish. When we got the bill, however, and refused to pay the exorbitant service charge, due to lack of decent service, we were suddenly very popular! We left feeling slightly cheated that the place we’d looked forward to through lockdown just simply hadn’t delivered. Marcus Wareing himself didn’t even put in an appearance on the first Saturday service after months of lockdown. Would we go again? No.

The staff were great and drinks in the blue bar before were fun, but the food went from ordinary to poor. I have to say for a Michelin star restaurant the food offered was quite forgettable. The staff were kind enough to discount our bill in light of our feedback.

MORE AT OpenTable

I nearly put overpriced in the title of the review but, in truth, the price of the food is on a par with a restaurant of this status. However, I certainly expected a lot more than I received. How James Lawrence, in his 2020 Luxury London review could write such a eulogy I simply don’t understand. The food we tasted: Orkney scallops, roast lobster, duck breast, suckling pig.The amuse bouche seaweed infused Chinese cracker was unmemorable and should not have left the development table. The petit fours at the end of the meal, likewise, would have been better not served. The scallops were excellent quality and the bone marrow sauce an interesting idea. 8/10The roast lobster was undercooked, with the texture of raw fat and the meat’s natural flavour completely obscured by the pork glaze. If you closed your eyes you would think you were eating bacon fat! The crab claw meat on a biscuit was riddled with small (but big in the mouth) pieces of shell which made chewing an unpleasant game of Russian roulette. The pickles were well constructed but no better than a keen home cook could do. 6/10The duck was good quality but lacking in anything other than the flavour it was born with. No confit leg was visible, unless it was the puddle of goo the breast was placed on but that was uncertain as it had no distinct flavour. One piece of torched asparagus took centre stage on the plate and an interesting, if dull, asparagus mousse was rolled in a crispy shell at the side 6/10The suckling pig was bland, which is so disappointing as it should have such delicate flavour. I know the rib is fatty but it was raw and not to be eaten, and what little meat was left was lacking in depth or finesse. What was termed Iberico pork on the menu turned out to be a mediocre slice of shoulder, again lacking in flavour. 5/10What was most disappointing was that, had I walked out paying only the price of the food, I would have felt underwhelmed but not ripped off. When you add in the £25+ cost of each paltry 125mm serving of wine you double the price of the meal and it becomes very poor value. The sommelier, far from suggesting wine pairing to a dish he knew but which we didn’t, seemed only able to describe the individual wines and not how they would pair with the dish. I know what a Mersault tastes like, thank you. What I want to know is which wine (within my price band) will pair best with the dish I am ordering. We heard the sommelier doing the exact same spiel to neighbouring tables so, knowledgeable as he undoubtedly is, the value was lost.Overall, and noting that Marcus Wareing is held up as a beacon of precision excellence, this was a disappointment. And where, given that we were dining on the first day back after the worst disruption in the history of the hospitality industry, were the owners and chef Patrons? Entirely invisible. It seemed as though this was just another evening in the life of a restaurant resting on the good name of the owner. Perhaps they were just rusty but it was a disappointing evening and one I had been looking forward to for some time.

We enjoyed an exceptionally good tasting menu of British seasonal produce, imaginatively presented and flawlessly executed. Service was however short of the standard expected at this level, by some distance. Starters and amuse-bouches arrived quite speedily but then, without explanation, there was a 45-minute wait for course three, and then an equally long wait for course four. It was all rather anxiety-inducing, and made us wonder whether there might have been some misfires in the kitchen. We were left to speculate, with neither updates nor explanation, and we felt rather neglected. Worse was to come. I had treated myself to a glass of rather exotic Burgundy, but I ended up being charged for a bottle of the stuff, which made the first draft of the bill properly eye-popping. Even after adjustment, our dinner for two set us back some way north of £350 - plus some tut-tutting from our babysitter when we finally arrived back home an hour later than we'd expected. Overall, despite the wonderful food, our experience was rather marred by the haphazard service, and we'll not be hurrying back to Marcus.

There’s no shortage of great restaurants in London but Marcus is up there with the best. You’ll pay a pretty penny but it’s 100% worth it. We went for the a la carte menu which was faultless, the pigeon main was one of the best game dishes I’ve ever had. As always, with a great restaurant it’s the small touches, the attentive service, amuse bouches, home made bread etc which make the dining experience memorable. The wine list is extensive and sommeliers were very friendly and approachable, explaining the wines clearly and not being too pushy on the selling. All in all, if you’re looking for a special place to eat, Marcus is for you.

We went to Marcus a least 3 times. 2 times when they had 2 stars and once before Covid. We experience the chef table once. We really enjoyed it.Good food but the atmosphere wasn't great. Front of house staff wasn't really showing their full potential which is a shame because if they showed more passion it would have been great.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Marcus. The service was impeccable, I have never felt so welcomed in a restaurant before. The food was absolutely outstanding, we had the scallops and tagliatelle to start, followed by the suckling pig and pigeon. Both cooked to perfection, with delicious flavours I had never had before. We also thoroughly enjoyed the cheese board and were simply too stuffed for pudding! However, the surprise petite fours were still warmly welcomed, alongside the delicious amuse buche soup to start. The array of champagne and wines were also fantastic. Absolutely worth every penny! If you are looking for a restaurant for a special occasion, then look no further.

Another lovely lunch at Marcus. I went in the week that they re-opened after 'Lockdown #2' and they were packed for lunch service in the run up to Christmas. As always, excellent food and service and wonderful wines by the glass. As I have said before, Marcus has all the right combinations that a fine dining establishment needs (in my opinion) - great food (of course) but with style and feeling as well, service that is attentive but not too much so, charming staff, a lovely interior design and a well selected wine list. Marcus prides itself on fine British ingredients and inspirations and twists on classics. So, on the a la carte menu you have lamb, beef, lobster, steak tartare - all the classics. It remains one of my favourite fine restaurants in London. Highly recommended.

A lovely setting with beautiful and elegant tables and tableware. Staff a little over attentive, sweeping our table for breadcrumbs several times during bread, and whisking us away at the end to see the kitchen. An aniseed theme running through the set menu with lovely bread, a highlight of mini crumpets- pork quite tough though and instead of the fennel providing some relief to the intensely savoury dish, it was heavily brined, losing most- if not all- fennel flavour. Good but I’m not impatient to return.
