The restaurant is beautiful but it was empty and the food was shocking !! Octopus starter was not far off of inedible, the KFC was insipid, the prawn and crab linguini had no crab in it and looked like it had been dropped onto the plate from a height - the rocket and pecorino salad had no pecorino, there was no chocolate semifreddo but we could have had strawberry or vanilla ice cream instead!?! The staff were attentive and apologetic about the missing ingredients after I pointed out that they were not in the dishes but this really didn't help ! Such a shame could be a winner !

My sisters and I had a pre-Christmas get together st Boulestin. We enjoyed our dinner but were horrified to have several sightings of a small mouse just by our table. When we raised this with the waiter he was totally unapologetic and more or less behaved as though it was a usual occurrence. At no point was there any suggestion that they would make some kind of gesture of compensation on our bill. The food was very tasty but we left feeling a little put out. They should sort this problem. I visited the ladies and decided that standards of cleanliness throughout the restaurant were poor and need to be improved. Service moderate.

Bastante decepcionante.

We had an excellent Saturday evening dinner with an especially good choice of veggie dishes (not obvious in a french restaurant!). Amazing burrata and excellent mushroom risotto. Delicious lemon tart. We had a good Meursault and an excellent value red burgundy. Lovely personal service. Highly recommended - a really authentic and top quality restaurant at very reasonable prices for London.

St James is a nice area, but even considering this the restaurant is poor value for money. The seasoning on my chicken was odd and the service wasn't the most efficient. I was appalled by the extra charges e.g. 13.5% service charge (not to be confused with staff tips) and a £4 bread charge. Apparently you can ask for these charges to be removed, but it can be embarrassing to do so (particularly when out on a second date) so we ended up resentfully paying them. The far easier option is to choose somewhere nicer next time!

I can’t express how disappointed having visited recently, the place has some nice architectural elements to it but that is where it stops. The food, service and wine were abhorrent. We complained and a rude member of staff indicated they had recently been taken over by new owners. Well if that’s their standard of hospitality they perhaps need to move on.

I used to enjoy visiting this restaurant, but it seems to have gone downhill rapidly over the past year. I heard that the restaurant has new ownership and it seems that they are taking shortcuts . Due to staff shortages we experienced delay after delay receiving our food, with really poor communication about what was causing the delays. When it eventually arrived the chicken was dry and bland - edible but certainly not worth the extortionate prices we paid! The portions sizes have also reduced dramatically since our last visit. We were still hungry when we left, so I ended up visiting a chippy on the way home! It's such a shame because this used to be a lovely place.

Visited here last Friday with my girlfriend for our anniversary. The experience was pleasant for the most part; friendly staff, above average food, okay ambiance. However, the evening was spoiled when my partner pointed out a nefarious looking gentlemen wearing a suit sat in the corner of the restaurant. He was sweating profusely, sporting a dumb grin and his eyes were darting around the restaurant with no head movement whatsoever. This, naturally made us both uncomfortable but the situation declined into total madness when, what I can only assume was his slightly overweight wife or daughter, came barging into the restaurant blind drunk wearing a full Bolton Wanderers tracksuit and aviator sunglasses claiming to be the second coming of Liam Gallagher and referring to himself over and over as ‘super agent’.

Entered the restaurant to a stomach churning musty smell. The decor looks like a cheap and tacky 1950's American diner. The tiled floor makes you nauseous if looked at. The chair I was seated at was flimsy, and felt it was either going to collapse or I was going to fall off my seat the entire time I was eating. The food was overly expensive for the quality. If you are looking for a classy eating out experience AVOID this restaurant at all costs, there are far better alternatives locally.

Lamentable.

St James is of course very civilised & this place is nicely decorated inside with a lovely terrace at the back. Warmly welcomed. Service was genial but very hit & miss. I expect a lot of attention for 13.5% service charge. Not sure we were being completely understood, with minor confusion over order. Luckily there for a long chat but things were slow. Waited10 minutes for sugar to go with a double espresso which did not seem to come from a machine. Wines start at £30 but my pal went upscale & bill was £250 for 3 people [3 courses]. Food was very average, No ice cream or sorbet, so had Asda standard lemon tart. Minute steak large but uninteresting. Regulars seem to put up with it but got no better service. I've visited this café/restaurant on a number of occasions. I can't vouch for the food but I can endorse the friendly welcome and the deliciously refreshing tea that is served. I chose Boulestin as a pre-Garden Party meeting point for my colleague and I before a visit to Buckingham Palace for a very memorable day. Boulestin is a 10-minute walk from Green Park Tube Station with the bustling St James' Street on the door step. However, walk through the door and you are in an oasis of peace and quiet. There is a small café area to the front which opens out into the much larger restaurant area at the rear. Our pot of very refreshing breakfast tea was served piping hot in pristine crockery by our very welcoming, attentive and friendly waitress. It set us up for what was to be a very memorable day at Buckingham Palace as guests of HM The Queen at one of her 3 annual Garden Parties. Highly recommended.

We were taken to Boulestin today by a family member who had been there twice before (midweek) and had a great time... until today (Sunday). We had a table booked for 1pm but were told when we arrived in good time that it was 1:15 but we were seated anyway because the place was about 50% full. However, 45 minutes later we were still waiting for our food, even though the order was given within 10 minutes of sitting. Around 55 minutes later, the food finally arrived. Even though Sunday roast and lunch menu were on the website, only brunch was actually available. We settled for eggs benedict and eggs Florentine - both good. Fish and chips - ok but small portion. Full English - overpriced and the poached egg was more like a hard boiled one. The blueberry pancakes were stodgy, covered in what looked like blueberry jam rather than blueberries and no sauces were given to accompany them. Dry and unappetising. We waited 30 minutes for a glass of champagne to be served. Eventually we were asked about desserts... we had a passionfruit crème brulee… ok. Banana parfait... ok. Butterscotch sundae - the desserts were 30 minutes in arriving but had to wait a further 10 minutes for the butterscotch sundaes... and when they arrived it turned out to be a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, a scoop of chocolate ice-cream and a squirt of caramel sauce sparingly put over the top with three pieces of popcorn. Not a hint of butterscotch anywhere and to take 40 minutes to prepare that was ridiculous, especially as the restaurant had emptied out to just two other tables! Whilst the sundaes were being eaten, someone came along and started clearing the rest of the crockery away- hardly conducive to a relaxed lunch. We were there for around 2.5 hours, to eat two courses - and not because we are slow eaters!! If this place cannot staff itself for weekends, why open? Why advertise a menu on the website that won't be available when you get there? Why advertise a Butterscotch Sundae and give chocolate ice cream?? The bill was large for six people and, if the manager had been on site, we would have given a pretty large complaint. As it is, the person who took us was very disappointed in the visit, and it won't be visited again. My advice - avoid weekends!

Busy for breakfast and lunch, if you want a restaurant with excellent food, service plus a romantic ambiance where you can actually have a conversation, Boulestin is THE place. Annette, the manager, and waiters Joseph and Fernando are attentive and expert. Don’t be fooled that it’s not crowded at dinner. It’s just undiscovered. Just three short blocks off Piccadilly, Boulestin can take its place among the best of London. The food is French and it’s delicious. No estaba lleno.

Excellent menu of classic French dishes, with some interesting variations (e.g. Cod Nasi Goreng), and a splendid winelist with (as one would expect) a knowledgeable sommelier. Efficient service.

In crowded central London restaurants are full, prices sky high - and the food and service so often truly disappointing. What a great treat to discover Boulestin, with its appealing menu beautifully executed and beautifully served in an elegant room. Thank you for a lovely evening last night. The prices may be high but the quality was real.

We visited Boulestin on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The dining room is quite large probably 60 - 70 covers, and very nicely decorated. As we were shown to our table I realised we were the only people there apart from one other guest who finished his coffee and left as we arrived. Now, this may well be how things are in St James on a Saturday afternoon - but we felt rather odd, the ambiance was more akin to vespers than lunch in a restaurant - and unfortunately, that lack of atmosphere did put a bit of a damper on our visit. Even by the time we left, there were only 3 other couples dining.

It’s never ideal having a Business Lunch in an evening favourite so this was an interesting test. Boulestin passed with flying colours. The service was faultless so that just as we were thinking of something , someone had anticipated our needs. Some trick that is. The food: the best Tuna Carpaccio I have ever had and it is one of my favourite dishes anyway!! Sublime. Delicious Pheasant dish as a main course which was succulent and ,,, just perfect.

Strange description but I will explainFrench style restaurant at the corner of St James and Pall Mall. Doesn't look very inspiring from the outside but opens up into a spacious light and airy restaurant , bigger than you expect from the outsideBut the amazing thing about this restaurant is the courtyard outside space A friend and I had booked for dinner at 7pm on a Tuesday evening and being a nice evening asked for a table in the courtyard.Restaurant was very quiet when we arrived and we were the only ones outsideTwo glasses of well chilled champagne arrived great value at £13 a glassThe manager came to talk to us and to let us know that they had a party booked at 9.30 and there could be a lot of smoking. We said that wouldn't be a problem as we expected to have left by then. More of that later! The menu at first glance seemed a bit fussy for want of a better description Stuffed ballotine breast of chicken with panco crusted thigh and tagine leg with aubergine and saffron purée and preserved lemons. All seemed a bit confusedWe both ordered Dover sole, Meunier with green beans and fries, one of the more simple dishes on the menuA small but very nice bread basket arrived, warm and crustyThe sole when it arrived was superb, off the bone and with just the right amount of capers and brown butterThis was followed by a Sauternes custard with agen prunes for me and creme brûlée for my friend. On ordering I was asked if I wanted 2 or 3 prunes, strange question which made by think they must be huge, agen usually are of a reasonable size When they arrived there were 2 and a half of the smallest prunes I think I have ever seen, not soft and squishy but small and toughThat said the Sauternes custard was to die for. The best alcoholic custard I have ever eaten. But now to what completely spoilt the evening for me.Half way through eating our main course we noticed a man in the courtyard swinging what appeared to be a pot of coals. Didn't take too much notice to start with but this was to heat a shisha pipe. (Pipes as it turned out)At this time is was barely 8pm but two tables of 4 women had arrived and after ordering drinks started on the pipesClouds of smoke followed, very invasive and strong smelling.Yes we could have asked to move inside at this point, halfway through eating our fish, but having been told this party would arrive much later why should we have toWhilst there is no law that prevents smoking outside this was ridiculous and like sitting in fog and when we did leave, earlier than planned, my hair and clothes smelt of smokeIf this party had booked for later and arrived early then management could at least have asked them to refrain until other diners had finished eatingBut no, a complaint to the manager resulted in a Gallic shrug and an explanation that they only allow this for one month during the summerEnough saidA lovely restaurant some great food but an evening completely spoilt by a lack of consideration

They had a private party booked outside on the night we were coming. Inside there was only our table prepared. No preparation whatsoever on the rest of the tables. I had to sit next to a door where the stuff was busy passing by with more chairs and tables for the party outside. What an unpleasant situation. The worst was still to come with the COLD food (lamb for me). I felt so sorry for my friends because I did recommend this place.

I visited on a Tuesday evening and arrived around 7pm to have dinner with a friend. The restaurant was initially empty and I asked If we could sit in the garden area. We were seated there and a friendly waitress offered us menu's. The manager meanwhile came over to say a private party would be arriving from around 9pm and they would be smoking and whether we would mind. We said there was no problem as were likely to be gone by that time. We chose from the menu - a rather confusing affair of food choices which had odd combinations - steak with jalapeno's - weird and despite a choice - it was very strange the descriptions of each item. We both had the Dover sole which was lovely. Suddenly we noticed a man on the side of the courtyard shaking an incense device - which we realised was a shisha set of coals. Then a table of 4 women sitting behind us were having this shisha in a french restaurant????? the time was only 8pm and certainly did not accord with the private party we had been originally told about. The smell of the shisha became overwhelming sitting so close to it. We had ordered desert and were desperate to get out. We left with our clothes smelling of this stuff and totally disgusted with a French restaurant feeling the need to offer what is readily available down the Edgware Road. We should not have been forcibly subjected to this environment - there was no way we had any choice. In fact it is the sign of desperation of a restaurant which we were very disappointed by. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the manager who seemed ambivalent - which says it all - not one we would ever go again to.

A number of us went for a business dinner one evening. It's first come first served but if it's a nice evening do ask for a table in the little square at the back. The menu was great and the service good - as you would expect. This looks like one of many restaurants in central London - and the food is as good as many. The secret are the outside tables.... not easy to find in this part of London

I won't lie, I'm French and I love good food. This restaurant has been chosen by myself because of the courtyard. But I knew this could be a bit tricky to get a table outside because of the tiny space. Hence, when we arrived, it was really sunny, and the courtyard was of course full. But we were reassured by the manager that the team will make sure we get the next availability for 3 people. And we were patient, therefore, 10 minutes later we got the table. And the terrace is not on the street, it is located behind and really calm and quiet. Regarding the food, it was delicious. I took quinoa salad, and this was really nice. For my dessert, because I am a sweet tooth, I got pancakes with caramelized bananas with maple syrup. The team is really nice and they're really helpful. So for me, it's a YES! And to answer to some other experiences, I am really nice to the team because THEY are those who can help you have the table you want. Where's British phlegm gone? Anyway, I recommend this place. There are millions of others, but this one is where I currently find anything I need! For the record, I don't drink wine so much, but sweet wine - French one maybe :) - is my favourite.

We went for a late lunch yesterday and we had to wait for a table in their courtyard, which was completely understandable and done in 15 minutes. We had time to enjoy a couple of drinks at the bar, and we were told a little bit of the history of the restaurant. Most of us had starters, even for main courses, and we were amazed by it! Great food, accommodating and knowledgeable staff... And a beautiful courtyard! They are installing a kind of couverture outside which will help in sunny days!A gem in the hustle of St James and Piccadilly.5 stars!

Booked this restaurant the first week of May spoke to a very nice gentleman, I explained that I was booking this restaurant to celebrate my husband 's birthday and that we wanted a table outside he assured me that he would reserve a table in their courtyard . I booked a table for 4 . Yesterday having had no call to confirm my booking (as most place do) I rang only to be told by a young lady who sounded as if she had just landed that job that day, that no she had no booking for me after a bit of research she then came back to me to tell me that yes she found me under a booking for 6 ppl and no they do not guarantee a table outside told her her colleague did assure me of an outdoor table when I booked she then said under these particular circumstances we will promise you a table outside Great .Got there today we were greeted by this young girl who did not seem to know what day of the week it was . Nope there are no table outside for us the manager then arrives please EMPLOY HIM IF YOU WANT TO CLOSE YOUR RESTAURANT !! I have never encountered such a ridiculously inept person . Instead of calming the situation he made sure we left . If I was the owner of this restaurant I would definitely want to know this . The restaurant inside was EMPTY NO ATMOSPHERE just a few tables outside helped by the glorious weather . Obviously we did not try the food so cannot comment on that . But honestly STAY AWAY these guys do not know what they are doing and if the kitchen is run the same way as their front of house I despair . I am giving it 1 star which I could give it zero . No restaurant can afford to be run by this kind of manager ......

If there's one thing that annoys me more than anything else in the restaurant business it is being presented with a wine list describing a specific wine from a specific vintage but being served a different and inevitably inferior vintage. Which is exactly what happened at Boulestin - they tried to substitute a Pomerol from 2010 (one of the best vintages of last 25 years) with a 2011 (one of the worst). In fairness, the restaurant pointed out that it was a different vintage (but still wanted to serve it), but having been challenged to reduce the price for a much less good wine, they went away to deliberate and by the time they returned to offer a derisory reduction, we had finished our main course and so no longer required the wine. It's just not good enough for an expensive restaurant to follow such sharp practices and this episode overshadowed what was probably a half decent meal. Sadly, based on this experience must say AVOID.

Visited today with my best mate. Restaurant was recommended and i was very impressed with the decor and friendly reception. Hoped, as very sunny, to eat in the court yard but told it was 'too cold' which was disappointing as this was why I booked. Food was very good, varied wine choice. Service good but slow to get the bill, again a shame as not very busy. Price wise it's a tiny bit expensive (3 glasses of wine, two mains, two coffees and pot of tea for 2 and bottle of still water came to just over £100. Well it is St James!

A business meeting in St James's Street resulted in a quick visit for afternoon tea at Boulestin, a quiet oasis in a sea of traffic and noise, well away from the bustle of Piccadilly. Just a 5-minute walk from Green Park Tube Station, we spent a very pleasant hour with a pot of hot, refreshing tea, soft drinks and a lively chat. Whilst we were not staying for dinner, the ambiance, decor and very friendly staff have all ensured that we will return to eat at some early future date. A very pleasant and rejuvenating stop over. Tourists welcome!

Definitely give this place a try.It was heart breaking to see this place so empty on a Saturday night, when it's such a fab restaurant. We got an offer for this place on a fixed price menu via Travel zoo including one glass of Prosecco.Obviously some of the service quality elements were possibly due to the quietness of the restaurant, but we just had to comment that it was faultless because it was! Staff were attentive without being over-bearing, both staff and restaurant were presented impeccably without being snooty and pretentious.Food was perfectly cooked and imaginative, I had the soft boiled egg in jelly which was the quirkiest thing I have seen in a long time. Tasty fine dining without any of the 'weird stuff' you can get nowadays (who needs tonka beans and squid ink???).Sadly it's not cheap, we had a freebie Prosecco as part of our deal, but we bought a bottle of wine and had Port and a few extras so we had an additional bill of over £100! Worth it though. We had a great time and promised we'd do a good review as we feel more people should go, as they are clearly missing out.

We had just gotten married at Marylebone Town Hall and walked to the venue for dinner. There were 7 of us, and we were seated in a semi-private dining area, which I hadn’t even requested—but it turned out to be absolutely perfect. The entire team went above and beyond to make everything flawless. From thoughtfully providing water for my bouquet to offering alcohol-free drink options and every little detail in between, they truly made it a magical evening. The relaxed atmosphere, outstanding food, and exceptional attention to detail created a night we’ll never forget.
