Marco's Kitchen in Southampton

Food was lovely. We had booked a table for 4 table only laid out for 2 , Menus were wrong as booked The set Menu order before 7 but was given a Saints Menu because Saints were playing !! We don't even like football and if we had known we wouldn't of booked the table , Managed to get Staff to give us the Set Menu. Than we were given the Wrong Bill £25 more than what our bill was.... So we never left a tip as service wasn't worthy of one. Always check your bill before paying. Over all lovely place.

¡Estaba tan decepcionado con las patatas asadas y la carne masticable! ! ! Soy un fanático de las papas asadas y siempre pido más, pero solo logré una, ya que estaban muy secas y completamente crujientes. ¡Mi compañero me dijo que parecían patatas asadas congeladas!El entrante estaba bien, y la salsa y las zanahorias eran deliciosas, el brócoli estaba en el lado equivocado de al dente. El servicio estaba bien, nos mudamos ya que se sentaron en una mesa de 4 muy cerca de nosotros, pero una vez que nos mudamos, me sentí muy cómodo.Empezando a mostrar su edad ahora, le vendría bien refrescarse por dentro. No estoy seguro de si volvería para un asado con los terribles asados, lo cual es una pena, ya que es un precio muy razonable para un almuerzo de dos platos.

Ahora lo único que mi esposo vegetariano no come (aparte de carne) es trufa. Adivina qué había en la opción vegetariana, lo conseguiste con trufa. Desafortunadamente, no actualizaron su sitio web porque la opción no incluía trufa. El resto de nosotros tuvimos un gran asado. Proteínas y verduras bien cocidas. Tres pequeños gruñidos, las patatas asadas estaban un poco duras, los pudines de Yorkshire eran más pequeños que otros restaurantes y no había relleno.

Just had an outstanding Sunday roast . Lovely to sit in the sunshine too. Excellent service. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Nada me emociona más que la comida y Simon's no decepcionó. He tenido el plato de cerdo antes, sin embargo, se ha cambiado un poco y no me decepcionó. El corte de cerdo era más grande y todo el plato quedó perfectamente integrado. Tuve el primer plato de gambas y me impresionó la cantidad de gambas que se presentaron. Llevé a mi amiga por su cumpleaños. Este restaurante es acogedor con un personal fabuloso. Yo comí el pescado del día, Sole. Mi amigo eligió el cerdo. Nunca había tenido peces como este. Estaba tan fresco y bien presentado. Tenemos una tarjeta de fidelidad que te da 1. 00 por cada 10. 00 pasó allí. Recomiendo encarecidamente este restaurante.

¡EVITA este lugar! Han informado a Normas Alimentarias en el Consejo.Vine aquí para cenar, comí un risotto encantador. Hacia el final de la comida, sentí algo en mi garganta, fui a los baños porque pensé que podría ser un trozo largo de ensalada y no quería empezar a balbucear en el restaurante. En el espejo del baño vi algo alojado en mi garganta, y resultó que había un trozo enorme de plástico atascado que me había metido la mano en la garganta para pescar. Esto claramente había estado en la comida. Informó al camarero y le pidió que investigara con el chef. El camarero se burló y me dijo que "le resultaba muy difícil de creer", y eso fue todo. Actitud extremadamente preocupante hacia la higiene de los alimentos, pésimo servicio al cliente; si un niño hubiera ingerido esto, podría haber habido un riesgo real de asfixia.¡No comas aquí!

We have come to Simon’s for Sunday lunch. It was superb amazing staff and great food. Our roast dinners were so good. We both agreed that post corvid19 we will be hurrying back for more.

The lady behind the bar was moody and rude, it took them 10 mins to make a Bloody Mary and it was horrible. Totally disgusting.I’m not sure what they think a Bloody Mary is, but it wasn’t the watery lemony crap they served. I have had the best bloody Mary’s in the world, I have also had the most basic and all of them where better than this. 27 quid for 3 horrible drinks was a joke.

Lovely food and excellent, attentive service. A great bar area and secluded dining. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Another really nice meal at Marcos. Love their Caesars salad. Had a desert for a change- sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The ice cream is really lovely. Service a bit stretched so didn’t match the food thus time.

Excellent pre theatre meal, so handy for the Mayflower theatre. Best chips we have ever had. Friendly service catered for my allergy.

The ambiance was good. Food was only OK. My friend had lasagne and it was very greasy. We stayed there for a couple of hours and there was no pressure to leave as the restaurant got busier.Very local to the Mayflower for a pre show meal and a short walk from the station.

My friend and I came in on a Tuesday evening after seeing a deal online for “steak for 2 and a bottle of wine for £30”. It’s safe to say we were disappointed... we asked for medium and medium rare, and when it came out they were both medium and we were told the set steak deal only comes with steak done medium. What rubbish. The service wasn’t great, one waitress serving us was nice enough but very stressed and the other was plain rude. Wouldn’t recommend. It was “ok”.

Had Sunday lunch yesterday what can I say it was fantastic. The food was lovely, service was excellent from both our waitress and the bar staff. We will defiantly be back. Perfect

I visted Simons Bar Kitchen on the 06/07/2019 with a very large group of people celebrating someones wedding. I bit into my main which was salmon with vegetables, unfortunately there was a large stone in the food. I didn't really think too much about it at the time however it did hurt at the back of my mouth. I showed the other ladies sat near me but didn't want to put others off their food. I left for the evening and in the coming days my tooth kept hurting, so I went of to the dentist.I had chipped one of my back teeth which I have no had to have filled.The response from Simons Bar Kitchen (after numerous calls and chasing them up) has been tough luck, which is fine but I would not recommend them to anyone nor will I ever re visit!

I came here last week with a group of my family and really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is beautiful. It's spacious yet intimate at the same time. The staff are so friendly and accommodating too. I had the delicious lamb dish with I would highly recommend!

A group of colleagues came here mid week having prebooked our menu choices for lunch. I had the Chicken, Bacon & Avacado salad which was absolutely declious and a very generous portion. Certainly will be back.

I ate sirloin steak and it is delicious. There are a lot of beers to choose. The place is good to hang out in the evening.

It is some years since I worked in this part of Southampton where every business had links to the port and shipping. Now the area is full of eating houses and inns, which change as frequently as tastes. What happened to the Mexican ?Simon's is consistent. The food and service were of a high quality with a limited menu but which catered for all tastes. It being a Tuesday, and warm, the establishment was not crowded and there was the option to eat outside, which as that part of Oxford Street is now a precinct, is much more pleasurable than when it was a through road.

We just got off the train from Gatwick and were very hungry. Jus across from the train station I could see a sign for Marco's Kitchen so we hiked over o check it out. We ordered sandwiches and a drink. I ordered their "mature cheddar & honey roasted ham" and it was not only a great sandwich but it was also huge. My wife ordered a sandwich as well, don't remember which one, but she enjoyed it as much as I did mine. The staff were very friendly and helped us to find a place to stow all of our luggage while we ate.

Arriving a bit late in search of somewhere in Oxford Street we asked if they were still serving food which they were, so we thought we would give them a go.Although we eat in Oxford Street often, this was our first time at Simons. Sat outside and the friendly waiter took orders and also provided some useful info on the wines on offer. Plumped a house French Rose and a Chilean white, both excellent.Mains of a very generous Caesar chicken salad with fresh crunchy lettuce and again a very generous carbonara with lots of chicken and bacon with correctly cooked pasta.Service, was being a little critical, slow at times but we were not in a hurry so it did not matter too much.Finished off with an ice cream which also not too bad both in quality and quantity.Prices also were about on the mark for location etc.I think we will be back again.

Fantastic roast this week at Simons. They offer a fixed price for one, two or three courses so you could just opt for the roast at £11.95 or you could go for three courses at £19.95. Beef, pork and chicken were on offer with a vegetable risotto for the vegetarians. We spoke to them before hand to find an alternative to the risotto and agreed on a veggie burger. Be sure to do this in advance because the roast potatoes are cooked in goose fat so they did a separate portion for us. We thought that everything was cooked beautifully and we really enjoyed the big portion of vegetables, we also got two big jugs of gravy without having to ask. One minor moan stuffing came with the pork, we wanted some stuffing with our chicken. The staff were quick to oblige. It’s a shame that there wasn’t a better veggie option. The service and the venue were excellent we just couldn’t fault it. The disabled toilet is a bit tricky to navigate with a wheelchair, the doors are very heavy and ‘Accessibility Girl’ had to ask a member of staff to hold the door open. We starters and desserts we also great, we thought that the deserts were very grown-up and very pretty.

Dined here twice in the space of a week whilst attending concerts at St Mary's. First time here for me and probably won't be the last. Both meals were very good and reasonably priced for the quality of food. Wine is reasonably priced and the atmosphere was superb. Only negative we found was the vegans in our party who thought the vegan sharing platter was overly laden with pickled veg to the point of being unappetising. Will return!

Great service .After work feed and it was ideal .Burger came with pickles chips and coleslaw .We had a green side salad as an extra .Deal came with beer / wine .Ideal price good food .Finished with coffee .Recommended for an after work treat .Why not?

Researched vegan options in restaurants close to The Mayflower. So happy to have found Marcos. Several vegan and gluten-free options - really delicious food and the owner and staff couldn't have been nicer. Will be returning, theatre or no theatre!

Conocimos a algunos amigos de las Islas Falkland y nos recomendaron Simons Bar and Restaurant. Qué hallazgo. Nos saludaron como a viejos amigos, todos estaban felices de vernos, era la hora de comer un lunes, ¡tal vez la fatiga de la semana no se había establecido! Nos sirvió una encantadora camarera Cornelia de Rumania y ella estuvo excelente. La comida apareció y fue el mejor almuerzo de bistec y papas fritas que he tenido durante mucho tiempo. No me molesté con un entrante, pero los otros sí. Estaba bien preparado y muy sabroso. Terminamos con el mejor Banoffee Pie, derretido en boca y sabroso. En general, una experiencia muy agradable, se lo recomendaría a cualquiera. Espero volver pronto .

Started with a bowl of thick parsnip soup, which was sweet amd velvety, and had chicken breast as a roast. The chicken was moist and succulent and the vegetables were good and plentiful. Good value for an excellent meal and the service was first class too.

Food was great, the service was quick, although a little expensive. The atmosphere is great too! Nice and quiet.

We popped in for a coffee before an appointment, weren't disappointed! We wanted to ditch the chain coffee places nearby for an independent place, so worth it! We came back after the appointment just to have a good pint of Kozel. From the tap!! It was such a delight, and since we are from Hungary, very nostalgic! I absolutely recommend the place, it's such a nice atmosphere - the owner's and bar staff's smile definitely adds to the experience!

Friends told us about this lovely little restaurant and weren’t disappointed the food was absolutely delicious. I had the breakfast sandwich which was filled with bacon and sausages topped with a fried egg, delicious. Highly recommend.

We went for lunch prior to a matinee performance of The Jersey Boys at the Mayflower. We have visited many many times mainly for drinks only. It has recently had a makeover including new menus with a specials menu.

My Wife and I were going to the Mayflower Theatre to see Jersey Boys and we were peckish and wanted a drink. The pub next door to the Mayflower was 10 deep at the bar so we wandered down towards the station and happened to come across Marco's Kitchen. We were welcomed in and being a licensed cafe we were quickly asked for our order. The staff were Excellent, the food was excellent and the drinks were not bad either! We spent about an hour there and never felt rushed and left recommending the place to some people outside who wanted to know if they could just come in for a coffee. Thank you to all the guys that morning, the waitresses and especially the chef. Your food was excellent, tasty, well presented and simple! We shall be back the next time we are back at the Mayflower!

We only went in for a cup of tea after a show at the Mayflower...The tea was excellent, the cake was excellent, then... other poeples dinner started being served and we just had to stay for a bite to eat.

We took a chance on the restaurant as we were short on time before going to the mayflower theatre. I'm glad we did. Service was quick and friendly. The food choices were good, it was freshly made and portion size about right. I would certainly go back again.

Came here for a pre dinner meal before seeing Swan Lake at the Mayflower. We had driven past many times but not spotted this hidden treasure. Great menu, lively ambience, swift service and wonderful food. We will certainly be back.

Visited for a pre theatre bite to eat ahead of the show "American Idiot" at The Mayflower. The restaurant soundtrack was Green Day. Good try ... but music so inappropriate to a relaxing meal. Awful. The food..... bland and uninspiring and completely over sold by the salesman head waiter. Chicken mortodella. Bland, dry and basically breadcrumbed chicken with cheese on top. £60 with a bottle of standard wine and an hour of our lives we won't get back.

I met a girlfriend there for lunch, Southampton being a convenient half way point between our respective homes. The restaurant is a stone's throw from the north side exit of the train station, well decorated and warm and the staff got it just right - being appropriately attentive but not overly so. The food was of excellent quality - we had the pasta dish of the day - which was scrummy. The only disappointment was that they had run out of carrot cake - but the brownie made up for it! When the bill came it was extremely reasonable - we will definitely be back. I would recommend booking a table - it is obviously a popular place for people at work locally to meet for lunch too as it filled up quite well when we were there and it was a Monday, so not generally a very popular day to be eating out.

4 of us had lunch, toasties and chips, never been here before so no expectations. Turns out it’s lovely, lunch was really nice, staff were polite, efficient and listened. It had a really nice atmosphere and was decorated very tastefully and clean. Would definitely return.

Pad Thai tasted good but served in cold bowl so not hot. Two haddock fish cakes with poached eggs and sauce on the Special menu at £16 not good value and bone in fish. Good service but a little disappointed. Have always had good food here and will try again.

Visited Marcos for the second time (first time it was classed CXOs). The place hasn't changed and remains our first choice of places to eat in Southampton!

We booked Marco's Kitchen for our son's surprise 30th birthday party last week. It was very difficult to find a venue in Southampton with a bar, that would serve a buffet of our choosing and be open for our exclusive use. Marco was so accommodating, delivering everything we asked for. Nothing was too much trouble - the food was served exactly as requested, the bubbly poured and ready for the toast on time, there were no delays at the bar and everyone had a fabulous time. Thank you very much.

Once again food was amazing and staff as well , it’s a must visit if you are in Southampton. Have booked again as going to theatre on the 1st December looking forward to it.

My friend and our two daughters popped in there before an evening performance at The Mayflower. Everything was just 'right'. We explained that we had to leave by 7.15pm so time was limited yet we weren't rushed. The music was just the right level, the girl that served us couldn't have been lovelier and our meal of Falafoul and Halloumi 'burger' served on a board platter with an unusual but delicious black bread bun and chunky chips for the veggies and Chicken on black bread bun and chunky chips, was perfect. We left relaxed and happy ....what more can you ask for ! Thank you ! Would definitely recommend.

Lovely restaurant close to the Mayflower theatre and station. I booked for a pre show meal. Great staff, friendly and efficient. Lovely food, modern decor and a relaxed ambience. I will definitely be going back and not just for a pre show meal.

Friends & I had tickets for the matinee performance of Wicked, our train got in at 12, so using google earth we looked to see which places were close for lunch, I rang to book & spoke to a lady who gave a selection of times we could choose. I chose a 12.15 booking, on arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome & shown to our table. The lunch menu has a good selection of dishes. We ordered drinks first, while we decided what to have. We selected the sourdough garlic bread with cheese & bacon, a sharing platter with enough for the 3 of us & very tasty, my main was a delisted lasagna & a tasty fresh side salad, my friends choose the caramelised onion & goats cheese salad & the chorizo & chicken salad, they both enjoyed there meals. As we had the show to attend we decided not to have dessert. Service was efficient & with a smile.

First time we’ve used this establishment, been to the Mayflower Theatre many times, and yet we’ve not noticed Marco’s.

Gluten free pasta likely wasn't. Wanted to order the salmon pasta dish and asked if it was possible to get it with Gluten free Pasta. After being told we could get gluten free we ordered two dishes. Not much Salmon but a lot of pasta with a cream sauce. Left half the pasta uneaten. Probably a good thing though. About an hour after eating had blown up like a hot air balloon and felt like I'd swallowed a bowling ball. Seriously doubt the pasta was gluten free or that the gluten free pasta has been properly stored to prevent cross contamination. Regret eating there.

My daughter and I went looking for CXO and found Marco's in it's place. As we had no other place in mind for a post show dinner, before taking the train home, we thought we would try it and we were not disappointed. The service was good and with a smile from all the staff and our meals were delicious. We will certainly return again when in Southampton.

They offer 'unlimited tea or coffee' with their large breakfast, but charged me for having an Americano coffee.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat. We decided to try a selection of starters that we could share. There was a great selection on the menu and a specials board too. They serve some very good wine too.

We were in southampton for a long weekend, staying with friends but had a few hours to kill. Got off the train at southampton parkway and two minutes walk away is marcos kitchen. I had found it on google. The owner was very attentive and friendly, the full english breakfast was very tasty. As part of the breakfast, you get unlimited tea or coffee. However, I wanted a latte and had to pay for this which was fine. Latte was so tasty that I had another. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our late breakfast.

We are regulars, often travelling 30 miles just to enjoy breakfast at CXO. Over the years, whilst the menu has changed the service and food quality has remained high.

We had a limited amount of time before going to a show at the Mayflower and found this Bistro on TripAdvisor. It fitted the bill perfectly with a fast service, tasty food and a good range of drinks.

A smart, buzzy, popular bistro, perfectly located, for us halfway between the station and the Mayflower theatre: ideal for a pre-theatre meal.

I really like this place and visit often. Great lunch location and also good if you want a quick bite before going to the Mayflower.

We were looking for somewhere to go pre theatre and found this place on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed. Friendly staff/service tasty food. The CXO burger with triple cooked chips was delicious ‘hit the spot’ (so I’m told) and the basciola pasta was just what I wanted. We will definitely go back

I go to this cafe regularly with my partner or family, and it's always relaxing and comfortable. The food is always lovely and the staff are happy to go out of their way for our sometimes picky requests. They serve great coffee and lots of lovely little pastries to eat in or take away.

Went into have dinner before a show, the restaurant smaller than I thought , the menu was good with lots of choice , the waitress could of been more attentive , as we had to ask for drinks and our order to be taken and that was before they got busy ... I ordered pad tia chicken noodles off the specials menu , it was really nice ... my friend ordered a Caesar salad without the chicken and they forgot the Parmesan so all she had was lettuce dressing and croutons for the same price of £8 , would recommend but they need to polish it up a bit xxxx

Needed a pre-theatre meal and stumbled across CXO. I'd suggest booking, it's a chilled place with a plethora of options, that realistically would suit most pallets. A trifle pricey on some of the starters, but great service and really convenient for the Mayflower.

I was looking for a breakfast after coming over from IOW on The Red Jet and wanted an independent near the railway station not an awful American style chain or a ' spoons full of elderly early morning boozers . The sign outside made me laugh so I was compelled to go in .This was an excellent English Breakfast and in pleasent surroundings with friendly staff.Despite the sign they do cater for vegetarians and vegans

Great atmosphere. Welcoming and attentive staff. Chic place inside but we chose to sit outside as it was a warm evening. Was very busy but service was good. We were given free nuts with our pre dinner drinks which was a nice touch.

I have to say that we were very impressed by our pre War Horse meal at CXO. The food was delicious and the service superb. All in all a great evening out.

Our first visit here and we popped in after getting off the train. We enjoyed an excellent breakfast, great service and superb value for money! I would thoroughly recommend it.

I have just left this bistro after having breakfast with a friend. Whilst eating, we heard a song being placed that explicitly sang the N-word numerous times. I first made our waitress aware, who offered no apology and did not seem to be phased, as she made no effort to do anything about it or make her colleagues aware. Whilst leaving, I told another waitress. I informed her that had I been visiting with my boyfriend, who is black, I would have felt even more uncomfortable and offended than I had today. Her response to this was to laugh, and say 'oh? Really?'. Although she said she was going to change it, her light-hearted reaction angered me and filled me with little confidence that anything would have been done had I not mentioned it.

Such a lovely place, the staff are wonderful and the food is great. They catered to dietary restrictions and nothing was too much trouble! Thoroughly recommend it.

What a lovely find. A Wheelchair accessible bistro close to the theatre with really good food. Access by way of ramp to the door and I was given a choice of table and seating position at the table (very thoughtful and efficient)

Had lunch here prior to a theatre performance. We both had dishes from the specials board which were delicious and great value. There is a good selection of both food and drinks. There is always something interesting and unusual on the menu. Very good service too.

We had a fantastic meal here 4 months ago so decided to visit again when visiting the Mayflower theatre nearby. Last time I gave the place 5 stars, this time it was decidedly average. I had the chicken shawarma, labelled as a special on the menu, but it wasn't especially at fifteen pounds. On the table we also had the jambalaya, very oily, not from the chorizo as surely this would have been absorbed by the rice when cooking, a carbonara dish which looked ok and a CXO burger, once again looked fine. The waiting staff didn't make me feel as though as though they wanted to be there and wanted to serve, they didn't do anything wrong, just didn't do or act any better than a server in a chain. Will we return? probably, but if we get the same feel about the place it will be our last visit.
