The Winston Hotel Bar And Grill in Southampton

Worst experience that I had since years... and I travel a lot. The hotel has been closed for a few months but has not canceled any reservations so what happened is me and my wife pounding on a door of a ruined hotel that is falling apart and empty. No contact, nothing. Reservation was of course prepaid... I would not trust this place even if it reopens

Nice looking pub, staff is extremely friendly, but they haven’t had their taps fixed for over 2 months now, so only serve bottled drinks. Aperol Spritz was also really bad (just tasted lemonade), also couldn’t get the champions league on because the TV seemed broken. Great potential but they need to sort themselves out soon.

Stayed at a Guest House near the Winston on Wed 29/5/24. Rang them twice to ask what time they did food until. No reply. Left 2 ansaphone messages - no reply. Texted them - no reply. Walked down in the evening to ask - the place was closed. No mention on website about being closed. According to the website it was open from 0800 to 0030. Need to get your act together!

Friendly staff, good food and they accomodate very well for watching the football. Great atmosphere especially on a sunny day.

I love the Winston, I think this is one of my favourite bars around. I came here with my partner and my family and my niece, it was a fantastic day. My niece played most of the time in the garden on the swing set, when it got too cold we sat indoors where they have a children’s corner with toys and games etc. Lovely idea, and very family friendly! The cocktails are 2 for £10 in happy hour, which is 12-3 (I think) then 5-8ish (I think) and the cocktails are really nice, however they are not worth the price if they wasn’t on offer or happy hour. I think the prices should be revised around this, or just keep the deal on. Don’t do happy hour?! We didn’t really get food, just got some chips, garlic mushrooms and prawns to share and they was nice, i definitely want to come back here for a seafood boil! I’ve heard good things about them! The only reason I have given this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the red stripe, which my partner wanted had ran out and the price of the cocktails out of happy hour.

Moved here from America so I have been on the hunt for a good seafood boil. Took my mom here for her birthday. The food was great and you really can’t get seafood boil anywhere outside of London in England so I was happy to find it. Service was great. We were helped by two guys one named harry and the other named Scott I believe but I’m not too sure they were very attentive and friendly and it was an overall really good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend

The service was excellent today, even when things weren't quite as expected, the staff anticipated the problem and handled it well..Food quality was excellent too, with a new chef producing an exciting, top quality Sunday Roast. I'm looking forward to our next visit and The Winston is now my first choice locally. Access for a mobility scooter is tricky, but possible. I had to lift our scooter over a couple of hazards, at the perimeter of the site and at the door threshold once we had reached the top of the ramp. Dogs welcome. Will definitely visit again.

Since the fella took this business over 2 years ago they have absolutely poured a lot of heart into this venue. Great atmosphere, lovely garden, good for family's as play area outside, fantastic food, decent pool table and very nice selection of drinks. If you're eating I recommend the burgers 🍔 😋.

Really lovely pub with great prices and staff. Had the Sunday roast and it was hands down the best roast I’ve had out - every part of it tasted amazing. Will definitely be going again soon.

Had lunch here today for our mum's birthday. As soon as we walked in, staff were friendly and accommodating and the food tasty with the meat being cooked through thoroughly unlike other places we've been (I had the nice chicken burger and it filled me up for the day!) The environment of the pub was clean and tidy, a change of pace from the usual sticky-tabled joints and mum loved her delicious passionfruit and honey mocktail that Levi made her. Already thinking of booking ourselves in for Christmas here! Update: Christmas here was just as great and very reasonably priced as well!

Very nice and friendly staff. Sometimes But not yesterday at 6 when it was busy. When you paid a big bill they will be even rude with you after a minute. Not recommend 😕

Great location as very close to where we live. Place looked clean and tidy. Friendly member of staff at the bar. Ordered food and drink and both were good. The men's toilet could do with some maintenance (cracked mirror and broken toilet).

I wish I could give separate reviews for the hotel and the pub, as there were totally different experiences. I would leave a 5 for the pub and a 1 for the hotel, so I averaged a 3 for them both. The Bar and Grill was fantastic! The food was delicious and the beer was ice cold. We ate there for dinner the night we arrived and breakfast the next morning. Both meals were great! Then there was the hotel. Definitely not the same experience. A huge old house converted into individual sleeping rooms. Ours had a private bath but most had to share a bath in the hall. Our room as filthy, loud and uncomfortable. The worst place we have ever stayed in. The mattress was something out of the 1950s, so thin and lumpy with the springs trying to poke through. The entire suite was disgustingly dirty. It was quite obvious that it had not been cleaned in months. Toilet was dirty and the seat was broken. Dirt and hair on the floors and shower and mold in the shower. This place needs some major work! Every room in town was booked for an event and we knew we were a stuck there. The room was affordable but not worth it. Others have posted the same complaints, a few years back, and we had hoped that the new owner would have made the appropriate corrections, but they had not.

I had a mixed roast and it was delicious Really good size for the money Very friendly and welcoming staff with fresh decor and dog friendly as well I'll definitely be going again and would recommend if you're in the area

1st time had some food and drinks Service good Ford good however way too many pepper corns on the steak and pasta .

Personally I think it's the most underrated food pub in Southampton. The roasts are amazing- AND HUUUGE! We now get one adult and one child roast to feed me, wife and 3 year old! And we still don't finish it. Pastas were beautiful too (but request no onions if you're not keen on them like me as they tend to add them to pasta dishes?) but they BANG! Cocktails are great!! (wray rum punch 👌) and are usually 2 for £10. Staff are sound too!! Lady with red hair and inked up barman (sorry don't know names) are great and make great cocktails.

In my opinion its one of the most underrated spots in Southampton. The sunday roast is elite...and the portions are HUGE!! If your appetite isnt massive- the kids one is more than sufficient as that is also massive! Homemade pastas (when they dont put onions in the carbonara!) is incredible, but their roasts I think is one of Soton's hidden gems.

My friend and I have a cruise booked, and wanted to stay in Southampton the night before. I booked a room, via airbnb at the Winston for the night. I messaged via airbnb to check that it was a twin room that was booked, as much as I luv my best friend, I don't want to share a bed with her. I didn't get a reply. I have TWICE rang snd left voice messages asking the same question. NO REPLY. I've been left with no alternative but to cancel my booking and book elsewhere. I REALLY don't like to leave negative reviews, but on this occasion feel it's warranted.

Fantastic service, staff friendly and decent prices on food & drink. 2-4-1 drinks went down well and it's within walking distance of home so I can see this becoming a regular haunt for me.

This is a great place! The food is really good and their drinks are great! They mix the best cocktails in town. Especially the margaritas are amazing!

We came for the mother's day menu and then some cocktails in the evening. Very impressed! the scallops were cooked perfectly and a generous portion at that. The mains again were cooked to perfection Beef Wellington and lemon parmasan chicken both very tasty then for dessert we switched to cocktails that were great and what a bartender! Thank you again! We will be returning:)

The Valentine's menu is a little expensive but the food was excellent and the waiter was attentive. The chef very helpful. We love it.

I've been living in Southampton for 4 years now and this place is by far the best pub for quality of food and friendly staff we don't live in walking distance but it I'd still by far our local!
