Staff are friendly. The food is brilliant It's a lovely restaurant a reliable restaurant for great food. The only downside is I don't want share with friends lol We go on Christmas eve, it's brilliant our family love it, we have booked for this year again

A gem of a restaurant, lovely friendly greeting and made to feel welcome from the minute you arrive. Food and service I cannot fault. They go the extra mile to make your celebration/meal the best experience for you. Definitely recommended. Thank you Maplewood and staff for being so attentative to us for our evening with you.

Awful place and awful food. The atmosphere is busy and loud. The waiters just slam things down on your table with no empathy or manners. The food is overpriced and it's disgusting. I'll never step foot in this place again.

First time eating here with friends. Superb food, excellent service and reasonably priced. Very attentive smart polite staff; nothing too much trouble, great ambience. Thoroughly enjoyed dining experience and I will definitely return. A recommend.

I had a beef in black bean take away tonight. I wouldn't give it to my dog. Tough as old boots and totally tasteless the texture was horrible. Not even sure it was beef. Went to this restaurant as we expected better and its not cheap. HUGE disappointment

Celebrated Grandad’s birthday in style!…food was delicious, fresh and tasty and great portion size. Staff were really helpful and friendly…grandchildren loved the spinning table and the fortune cookies too!😊

Possibly the best Chinese Restaurant ever visited that wasn't a buffet style. From the minute through the door, the decor, the meet and greet, superfast drinks order. Then when a table was free escorted to the table, drinks taken by the waiter on a tray. Very large menu. Beautiful décor, even down to the chinse carpet. Linen table cloths and napkins. Food was large portions, hot plates and hot table warmer. All the food was excellent. Several birthday parties and groups, everyone very happy.

For the prices charged, I think they should be using better quality ingredients - especially meat. Also, the dishes are for too salty / too much MSG

The restaurant was air conditioned so comfortable on a hot night. We used a gift voucher to pay plus a cash top up. My meal was really good . My husbands, not so. We opted for individual choice rather than a set menu choice as one guest is a small eater. Overall a pleasant experience . We have been here many times, and we will return and use another voucher. Our Choices.. The Peking Duck as a Starter I had the Satay King Prawn, excellent! A point for the restaurant to look at!! The Fillet Steak in a creamy sauce was bland and far too thick, with no distinguishable taste. The steak pieces were really tender and still moist. The staff, as usual, were very friendly.

The food here is lovely dont know if they have a new chef but the salt and pepper chicken you could get it without batter and it was lush but now only do it with batter shame really but everything else ive had has been good

We had a takeaway that we’ve had a couple of times before and also had before to dine in as well. The mixed hors deuvre combination was poor, prawn toast very dark thin and dry, spare ribs were tiny, crispy wan ton was all crisp no filling, chicken satay dry and about a spoonful of crispy seaweed. Spring rolls and sweetcorn parcels ok. We had the steak chow mein with crispy noodles, it tasted ok but an unusually small portion. The plastic carton is normally the deeper one but not this time it was small. At £30 for a takeaway starter to share and main meal to share was expensive and very disappointing. Hope it was just a one off because it’s normally good and as the only Chinese restaurant in Widnes we are a sought of captive audience. Next time for a couple of quid more per dish we’ll go to Mr Lau’s Warrington.

Been a few times now and its always been top quality, the food is amazing and the service is even better. Its a tad pricey, but who cares when its so good. I would recommend the banquet for £35pp, great value for money and absolutely delicious

I couldn’t believe how busy this restaurant was. Unfortunately I can honestly say service was very good but the crispy chilli beef came out dry not saucy and very tough fatty beef. They replaced with a chicken curry again chicken rubbery . Will not recommend honestly. Disappointing.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a couple of people and we thought we would give it a go. The restaurant is well laid out and the staff are superb , a lot of other local Restaurants could learn a thing or two from the way the service is conducted here. Plenty to choose from the menu no issues there , the portion size was good , food in general was OK but disappointed with the protein , my chicken reminded me of processed chicken not fresh chicken , the wife had the same issue with her steak, the accompaniments were good especially the noodles with bean sprouts. Overall very satisfied with the service but let down by the food quality and the price charged.

We used to be regular visitors to the Maplewood but we haven’t been for over a year as we felt the staff were not as friendly and the food wasn’t as good as it used to be . However after last nights visit I will definitely be a regular here again . The service was fantastic and the food was excellent. Loved it .

Friendly staff and welcome. Sat and left browsing the menu in the bar area with a drink. Shortly after our order was taken and then we were taken through to the dining area. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was lots.of choice on the menu and when the food came it was beautifully cooked and served well. They even have quite a good pudding selection for a chinese.

You can’t go wrong here. An excellent Chinese restaurant. Familiar dishes on a large menu in a nice large restaurant with great service. Very reasonably priced too.

We come here several times a year, usually to celebrate a family birthday. The food is always to a high standard and the menu is extensive with something for everyone. Sue and the rest of the staff are always friendly and efficient and the service is impeccable. We will be back!

Food portions were very tiny and super expensive, £6 for a tiny frozen ice cream, and £6 for 4 tiny spring roll, sweetcorn was smaller than your finger, chicken was like rubber, staff were very nice to be honest. Would not go there ever again.

We had a lovely meal here this evening. Service was great and the staff were very attentive. Sue one of the waitresses asked us if we were here for a special occasion and one of my friends happened to say it was my birthday. Sue then appeared with a cake with a candle and a sparkler. This is the best Chinese restaurant around. A firm family favourite as it suits all age groups. Very comfortable, delicious food and slick service. Went here for my wife's birthday and we had the banquet for 32 each and it was very nice indeed we had soup and crackers then a plate of different starters which was nice apart from the very small portion of seaweed which should of been more then we had the duck which was lovely then the fillet steak in Cantonese sauce which is lovely and we had sweet and sour chicken with rice, the portions were a good size and the service was good but please just more seaweed on the platter 😁. I would highly recommend this place.

Saturday night family banquet. I understand that weekends are busy, however people were literally crammed in. My wife had to ask people to move their chairs which they did very grumpily and to be honest I don't blame them. The service was good and polite however the food on this occasion was a let down. Fillet steak so tough it was inedible, overcooked. Sweet and sour pork was exactly the same, pork Ribs were tasteless apart from tasting of fat. Apart from the soup and the sizzlers all the dishes served were luke warm. Had this been my first visit I would never return, however it has been so much better on previous visits.

My wife and I booked a meal at this restaurant last week. We went with friends and decided on the Maplewood as it was a convenient 20 minute drive for all of us.My last visit was about 15 years ago, with work colleagues. At that time it was very popular and the food quite good. However, after last week....never again! We should have realised what was to come when the restaurant was almost empty. The food was dire. The mixed appetisers for 2 consisted of 4 ribs which looked and tasted if they were covered in tomato ketchup. One prawn toast each. Pork dumplings which were clearly not cooked through A crispy wanton which didn’t really contain anything, and finally a yellow looking chicken satay. For mains, my wife and I chose 2 dishes to share. King prawns with supposedly cashewnuts...we only counted 6! The other dish was a sizzling fillet steak in cream and garlic sauce. The “cream” was a thick white congealed mess, and the steak somewhat tough. All in all, the worst meal we have eaten in many a year. If you like your Chinese food, steer well clear of the Maplewood. If it was possible to score zero I would have done.

Went on a Saturday night for a family meal. We all chose banquet menu A. We were shown to our seats after ordering our drinks and food. The service was friendly and attentive throughout. There was someone on hand throughout and even when we left we were thanked by all the staff. In terms of food the banquet started with chicken and sweetcorn soup, then spring rolls, spare ribs etc. After was crispy duck pancakes followed by mains - highlight was sizzling beef. Food was superb, well portioned and tasty. There was minimal wait for each course and we were offered a break before the mains. We have recommended the Maplewood to friends and family. We heard beforehand about changes of management - dont fear the restaurant is as good as ever.

Although it may seem very extravagant this is our go to restaurant when we need a takeaway and never disappoints us (unlike the majority of other restaurants. We have eaten in the restaurant on many occasions also and find the food to be very good with excellent service.

We booked a table for 10 for a birthday meal. Sat in the bar area upon arrival we ordering drinks and food we where then seated at out table, large circle table with spinning centre made it easy to reach all the dishes we had ordered, food was served very quickly. Staff where prompt when cleaning away used plates.

This restaurant has gone through many changes over the 25 years we have been visiting. It went from fantastic to being run by different managers and it was just not the same. Sue has now come back and is front of house and the place has its mojo back. I would certainly recommend those staying away to come back as we have and give it a go again. I suppose it can never be the same again, but they seem to really be trying to get back to where they where. We will certainly return again. Food, service exceptionally again. Give it try again and you will be in for a surprise like we were.

Best Chinese in the North West!! I've been going here for many years and I've never been disappointed. Sue and her colleagues always make you feel right at home. They have relaxing bar area where you can sit and relax and browse the menu before being shown your table. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough!!

We found the Maplewood to be very disappointing. Considering the reviews it has we expected something amazing but it was not much better than an average Chinese take away. It is over priced. People locally obviously go for birthday meals as we experienced the happy birthday song played 5 times which was very annoying.

Myself, my wife and my brother and his partner came here last night, it was only our 2nd time coming and I have got to say it's probably the best Chinese restaurant around the area, it's nice and big, very roomy, my wife is in a wheelchair and the access was perfect.

To say the Maplewood restaurant is the best is an understatement. Every time we visit here we are never disappointed .we know it is a bit expensive but well worth every penny. Went as a party of 10 for a family birthday. Everyone enjoyed the banquet, the food was delicious and the service was very efficient. I just wanted to mention how helpful Sue was. I had messaged a few days before asking about vegan options and they assured me there were lots! When I got there she went through the whole menu with me and told me what I could eat, and they would be sure to make certain things separately for me. I really enjoyed the food (so tasty and huge portions!) and would definitely recommend. Great for groups with gluten free/veggie/vegans.
