A group of friends and I visiting the area just by chance walked down the Main Street and noticed a little courtyard advertising shops and this cafe was tucked away in the corner. We wasn’t sure if it was open at first & that should be rectified as you really would miss out on the fabulous food. There were young waiting staff who looked after us & were very polite & attentive & the menu covered it all if we wanted a light bite or something more. Everyone of our party of 8 people really enjoyed our food it was well presented and very tasty & ample portions. We thought it was great value & am happy to write this review and recommend to people.

Having been put off a couple of eateries in Clitheroe and frustrated that you can't seem to get an early lunch in the pubs we looked around for alternatives and hidden down an alley we found Mansells. It didn't look anything special but we were given a warm welcome which is always a good sign. There were plenty of things to choose from and we had the steak and ale pie. It was a decent plateful, with a side plate of carrots and red cabbage beautifully cooked and well presented. Reasonably priced it was a perfect lunch We will add this excellent cafe to our go to list

We all enjoyed the food which Included posh fish and chips, sandwiches burger a wrap and the children's fish goujons and chicken nuggets. At the end of the meal there were 8 empty plates. You can easily miss this lovely little restaurant which is tucked away in the bottom corner of the Swan Courtyard. The welcome was warm and friendly and the menu was that little bit different and all the food cooked fresh to order. We enjoyed the Chicken Wrap and the Cheffed-up Burger which were delicious. There was a nice selection of cakes and the wines are reasonably priced - unfortunately we were in the car but next time we will visit Clitheroe by bus or on the train! Highly recommended for a relaxing lunch or cake and coffee.

Tucked away in the corner of a courtyard and easily by-passed. First impressions slightly off putting. Basically needs a makeover. Tables and cutlery clean, waitress and chef spotless...but it is like sitting in a 70/80s throwback! The bright orange kitchen tiles are retro vintage collectables. Toilets are scruffy and need a really good overhaul BUT HAVING SAID THAT the FOOD is delicious! What a revelation. Pick from the daily chalkboard - all freshly made and scrummy! Who cares about the decor when food is this good?? Excellent salads and the homemade chicken tenders were the best we have ever had! Yummy. Waitress was lovely. A gem.

We ordered the tomato flatbread and the ham and fig sandwich which were lovely and came with lovely salads. Luckily we had some cash on us as they don’t take cards in this cafe. Maybe this is a good place but the two times I've been in the last month prompt me to remind myself to stay clear of here from now on. Both times the food (different dishes) has been mediocre, fairly bland. The service is fast but reminds me of service and noise in a supermarket cafe. Devoid of any friendliness and interest. Particularly irritating on the second visit when I didn't have enough cash - they don't take cards of any type - not too bad if they tell you in advance - but they don't. The line from the waitresses is "we only work here". Plenty of other places in this town for a more satisfying experience.

Been her many times but very disdapointed this time. Waitress rude and abrupt. When she brought the tea she had forgot the milk so a asked for some. She turned around and picked up the milk off a table someone had just vacated. If iv paid for tea I want a new jug of fresh milk!!! That's very bad practise. When the cakes arrived we both asked for ice cream with them. One had cream the other ice cream. You could tell it was old ice cream cause it was full of ice crystals prob been there since last year!! Anyway the cake was lovely until I'd nearly eaten it and then a hair was found the the next mouthful!!! Didn't eat anymore told the proprioter who knocked 40p off the Bill!! Wow !! Won't go again

Great tasty food always of a very high standard. Home made relishes on the side. The chef is clearly passionate about food; the side salads are really interesting with varied ingredients. Probably the best food in Clitheroe although this establishment is rather inconspicuous and could easily be overlooked. Fantastic home baking. Licenced premises so you can enjoy a glass of wine with your food. They do take outs for cakes if you have no room for a pud. Friendly chef and great service from Pat. If u appreciate good home cooked food, give it a try. But take cash as no card facility.

There is an outdoor seating area, within a pleasant Courtyard area, especially beneficial if you are a dog walker. Stopped in today for a quick lunch. Ordered the roast chicken, stuffing and apple sauce sandwich. I asked if white bread was possible and was offered ciabatta as a replacement. When it arrived it was an untoasted muffin! The chicken was lovely as was the stuffing but the apple sauce was just odd! The muffin was a little dry and took some chewing. Now, the side salad. This was the funniest thing I've ever been served. Lettuce (3 types) cucumber, tomato, onion, melon, orange segments and a strawberry! Wasn't sure if I wanted a french dressing or double cream. The price was good and the staff were very welcoming. Not sure if I'd go back though unless I wanted something that was not exactly what I ordered.

We regularly eat at Mansells and keep coming back for more. Mansells is a great place to eat and whilst many people choose to stop for tea and one of the chefs amazing cakes we often have something from the main meal menu as its such good food and super value. You would be thrilled if you had a meal of this quality at twice the price, (particularly the beef in black sheep ale pie with the chefs speciality sauté potatoes). We often eat at independent cafes and restauarants and Mansells is the best we've sampled by quite some distance, a real hidden gem.

Stumbled across this place while at Clitheroe Jazz Festival. We turned up at the end of the day as the staff were thinking about closing. We thought they might try to get rid of us fairly quickly, but thankfully this was not the case. There were 6 of us and we all had tea and cakes. The Chocolate slab did not disappoint and my friends who had the lemon coconut cake were also full of compliments. The tea was like ' proper tea'. If you are are tea drinker you will know what I mean! Staff friendly and attentive and gave the impression they enjoy their jobs. And all this at the end of what must have been a very busy Saturday. Well done Mansell's :)))

Found Mansells on the off chance when looking for somewhere for lunch. A really pleasant surprise, varied menu and great service. Enjoyed roast sweet potato (never seen that before) and a burger in a muffin. Both were accompanied by a salad including pineapple, strawberry and orange. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The meal was not cheap but was good value for money. Wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

From the moment you enter the Cafe/Restaurant, the staff greet you warmly and the atmosphere is lovely and relaxed. The food is all homecooked and very tasty with a good selection to choose from. The chef makes his own chutneys and sauces and you can even buy some to take home, which I can recommend.

Amazing restaurant style food hidden in a courtyard corner. The ploughmans lunch was spectacular, proper portions of cheese with homemade chutney served with salad with fruit. Lunch and dessert rolled into one. Service was good with very friendly staff. Will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends.

Lovely place with stunning views and hosted by Jonathan and Fran who are the most welcoming people. Bed and breakfast for one night only but we felt like we were visiting close family. We would highly recommend a stay here.

Traditional pub food. An excellent lunchtime dining experience with a wide choice of beers. All staff are friendly and polite. Shout out to Nicky and Andy, thanks. Couldn't do enough for you. Down-to-earth pub. Cheers! Just as good again today.

We sometimes visit Clitheroe midweek during the day. A pub crawl is the usual way to go, but this time, after the first pint we decided to have another. We stayed for six and on heading to the bus stop, we had only been to one pub. Why did we stay all afternoon? It was the friendliness of not just the staff, but the other customers all offering interesting content to a rolling discussion ranging from the beers to where each of us lived / grew up etc .... The barmaid (it was her first day) pulled a great pint too. In my experience of both pubs and people, this is rare. I nearly forgot to mention the prices. Cheaper than most places and two of the beers offered at just £3 a pint.
