Manor Farm in St. Helens

Booked a couple of hours before we went, glad we booked it was busy but service was good. We ordered roasts 2 turkey and 1 beef, they were huge and delicious. Proper home made style food including roasties, mash, 4 veg, pig in blanket, perfect stuffing beautiful tender turkey and the best gravy I have had for years! It was so good we are thinking of booking for Christmas Day! Only problem was they didn't have my favourite wine, white zinfandel rosè but the food made up for it. Friendly fast service. We will be back!

Best Sunday Roast we have had for a long time ( and we had quite a few ) !! Attentive staff, quick service, freshly cooked food and the most tender beef. Will definately be visiting again. Pls give this pub a try. The new owners are lovely and deserve to be supported.

Possibly the worst meal we have ever had!! My starter was potato and leek soup, which was served in a minute bowl and had a thick skin on top! My wife had breaded mushrooms starter which were as hard as bullets! Main course for me was hunters chicken which was dry and tasteless, wife’s was fish and chips which was acceptable. Not a pleasant experience!!!

We had a 30% off mains flyer through the door and decided to try the Manor Farm this evening. Huge car park, warm cosy pub, friendly and efficient staff. We had fish and chips and scampi and chips for mains. Both on nice warm plates, generous portions and the nicest chips we’ve had for a while! Lovely crispy batter on the fish too. We both had sherry trifle cheesecake for dessert. We’re glad we kept that flyer and will definitely return!

We went to the Manor Farm today as a party of 10 for Mother’s Day. The service was brilliant, great atmosphere and the food was lovely. I can highly recommend! Thanks to all the staff for making the day so special

We came for Sunday Dinner on Mother's Day! I can honestly say I had the best roast beef dinner! Absolutely delicious and friendly service!

A firm favourite..... From the lovely owners to the fab staff. Great friendly atmosphere, great selection of drinks and amazing food. This place has become our only local pub, and has a place in our hearts. Although the pub wasn’t that busy an it was early evening the food took an age to come out , nothing wrong with the food it was delicious but plse try an speed up the service, we’ll come back just try a bit harder

My experience at Manor Farm was exceptional, highlighted by the delightful food and excellent service. Initially informed about a potential wait due to a large group, I was pleasantly surprised as the food arrived promptly and was of a high standard. The Hunters Chicken and Gammon Steak were not only delicious but also generously portioned, served hot, full of flavor, and presented with care. The overall dining experience exceeded expectations, making Manor Farm a top choice for both quality cuisine and efficient service.

We chose to visit with friends from out of the area and looked forward to taking them into a lovely cosy pub with roaring fire. This was not the case. The fire was not lit due to an issue with the chimney. Fair enough but maybe it would be a good idea to let people with bookings before hand via a generic email or txt (contact info is requested on booking) or a post on social media to make people aware. We were then given a table in the window that was very draughty and cold, the chairs were far to high for the table and not great to eat off. We moved tables but the whole building was just cold and we ate with our coats on. We waited 45 minutes for our food...which was nice when it came. Service was then slow to remove plates. Then to end our visit as we were leaving there was a mouse in the conservatory area. Again...its a lovely old building surrounded by fields but seeing the little fella just topped off our disappointing visit.

Great night out. Great atmosphere. Great for a couple of drinks. Came with family ordered food which came quickly and was good quality.

This was my first visit to Manor Farm staff friendly atmosphere good food very good plenty of good quality food would go back difo.Scott was very pleasant as too the lad with name sorry forgot his name.

Virtually empty apart from bar staff and what I assumed to be off duty staff or local kids messing about with a karaoke machine and making farmyard noises over the microphone. Highly priced drinks to compliment the lack of atmosphere, appeal and general schoolyard fun! At least the place was well heated. Wonders why local pubs are dieing?

Only 1 person behind the bar so waited ages to be served. Food then took 45 mins to arrive, we ordered a mixture of starters, 1 main and a kids meal. Portion sizes were tiny (2 chicken strips and 2 popcorn chicken bites in a bowl for £5.95, not to mention the Natchos which weren’t enough for our 8 year old, let a portion to share between 2 adults as stated in the menu). All in all poor service, poor food, long wait and over priced. Will not be returning anytime soon and would advise others to avoid.

Went for my daughters birthday. The floor and the tables were sticky and dirty. There was only one man working behind the bar. He disappeared upstairs to get some food orders which kept 7 of us at the bar waiting to be served. Food was terrible and not very warm. Will not be returning

Nine looking pub from the outside, a bit scruffy on the inside. Food Was good but was put off by a gang of want to be gansters (late 40s years of age) with the word “lad” in every sentence and how one of them was talking about “spreading a man’s nose all over his face” I have heard in the past, that this is the perfect meeting place for such “want to be gansters” to hold the meetings as it’s tucked up out the way and easy for getting on the motorway network. Dont think I would visit again, unless I am armed to the teeth ☹️

The waitress/manager greeted us with ‘have you booked?’ And ‘I’ll be two seconds’. There was no polite greeting. She looked at the end of her tether and I felt a level of sympathy for her. She was slightly rude to my husband when he asked where we should wait and spoke to him as if he was an irritating child but quickly snapped out of it when he gave her the look! She seated us but didn’t give us a run through and I had to ask if we helped ourself to drinks. She was rushing around delivering plates of food but finally took our order. We had a long wait but we could see the kitchen was very busy. There seemed to be a problem with poached eggs. My order finally came with bacon, I didn’t want, no baked beans, fried egg instead of poached and black pudding I didn’t want. The bacon was removed after she checked I wasn’t allergic but I didn’t mention the other errors. The food was really good. The orange juice was lovely and there was an extensive range of hot drinks that were excellent. The toaster was efficient. We had a pain au chocolate each, which was good too. I think the main problem was lack of staff because it was manic. There was plenty of choice and fruit and cereals so a longish wait wouldn’t be a problem if some of the social niceties had been observed. The waiter seemed a lot calmer but unhappy about the lack of poached eggs for his customers!

They accepted a booking for 8 pm. Got there to be told to take a seat and order at the bar. Went to the bar at 2 minutes to 8. Then we were told they stopped serving at 7.45. Ridiculous and disingenuous. To be avoided.

Visited the Manor farm for a light lunch and ordered prawn cocktail with bread. The place was dead so we didn’t have to wait long for food. However; when the meal arrived there was no bread, so I politely asked where it was. It took 20 minutes and a further 3 requests for bread before it finally arrived….. when I had actually finished the meal. I complained to staff that it was very poor and I was told that it was because they were having an inspection???? I will definitely not be returning if they can’t even get one small meal correct and making a customer wait for some bread for 20 minutes is a joke. It is a shame as the place has so much potential and is a beautiful building. This place needs to be independently run with it’s own, unique food/menu, some new flooring, furniture and paint and staff who look like they want to work there.

awful food and awful customer service. The food was microwaved and could have been prepared by a group of school children. Very disappointing! it’s a shame as if the manor nailed the food it and sorted out the decor and the smell of stale beer from the carpet then it would do well. Until this happens we won’t be visiting again! And to make matters worse some of the food which we did order didn’t turn up!

We had popped in on Saturday for a drink. We had never been before. There was a lovely atmosphere in the garden area. The bar was busy. The staff were friendly. Really enjoyed it.

Not been to this pub for many years and thought I would give it a go with my family. We sat outside it was a beautiful day there was ample parking and seating, plenty of shade and a children's play area set to one side. We ordered 2 cowboy burgers and a chicken burger. The food was hot fresh and really nice we all enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and attentive. The pub was busy catering for parties. Inside there is a smallish conservatory area that can be hired for events and an upside area. I will hopefully return and I would recommend.

Absolutely beautiful outside space with lots of tables in both sun and shade. A huge space with children’s play area. Also dog friendly in outside space. Food! Not the best. The menu is ok, very basic and what you’d expect of a traditional English pub menu. We ordered a cowboy burger - described as double burger with bacon, American cheese, lettuce, fries and pot of dipping sauce. What we got: two burgers with cheap cheese slices on a bun with chips. No bacon, no lettuce and no sauce. We also ordered a couple of portions of fish and chips. This wasn’t too bad but didn’t come with tartar sauce as advertised. Overall a nice visit but really let down by poor food.

What can you say order via text message. Wait for 30 min still no drinks, staff standing around staring in to space. Must be a managed pub because otherwise surely if privately owned you would care about your customers and your business. Read the other recent reviews. We aren't the only people this has happened to. Not even that busy today I can see why. My advice go in to rainhill sit outside the wine bar, hop House and blue mango they know how to run a business.

Have to say I have a lot of sympathy for the staff who’s hands were sewed to their pockets and a guy behind the bar that took a serious liking to the brick wall he was staring at for half an hour. Not served after an hour and a half leaving for a functional pub.

This is a lovely old pub( our local), and you’d be forgiven for thinking that the people who have it care about their customers and their comfort. You’d be wrong- on a Friday night in tier 3 there was no heating on, over a hours wait for inedible food that we were rushed into eating while there were a group of men drinking in the decking area and not eating, £130 for 4 people is shocking and until this improves we won’t be back

We geocached around the area in lockdown and saw this pub. It is a terrific building, built in 1662. My partner remembered coming here when he worked at Plesseys in Huyton. He surprised me with a meal here tonight. It was a lovely evening and we first had a drink outside, very pleasant. Inside is amazing - so many original features including a well. The food was beautifully cooked and Rebecca and Connor so very pleasant and helpful.Thank you for a lovely evening.

We came for a drink on Friday around 5 as it was lovely and sunny. The bar staff seemed run ragged. One young lady was having to constantly ask other staff to be getting glasses from outside, restock or check back? (anything but stand and do nothing). Seemed like every time I was at the bar she was having to ask the same things again and again. Must have the patience of a saint! The service was overall very good. Didn’t have a wide wine selection as it was rather busy I’m assuming. Bar staff were very polite even with all the other folks waiting. Some more chatty than others which did hold up the que as well as having more cigs breaks whilst working than I had out drinking!!!! Last but not least, I couldn’t tell who was staff and who wasn’t. One young lady had a flowery mini dress on which in my opinion isn’t work wear considering everyone else was dressed in smart black clothes or Liverpool tops?? Don’t really know what to think but we both enjoyed ourselves and will be back in.

I have not been the manor for about 4 years so we thought we would go for afternoon tea (4 in the party) to see what it was like. The food was average and not very hot but what surprised us when we went outside to sit on a bench and finish are drinks off was the state of the car park full of potholes and some big ones. The grass needs cutting. A small rubbish dump in the corner of the lawn (the rats must have the time of their lives at night). Considering we had been on lockdown for three months I thought they would have given the benches a lick of wood paint, some of them are rotting dirty. There is some better pubs in rainhill but Considering the history of the place if they sort the car park out and tidy and sort the rubbish out in the outside area it could be nice to go on a sunny Sunday afternoon

Manor Farm ... Extremely Poor.. What has gone wrong with this place! To be totally honest folks we are not great lovers of western ready made pub food or sitting around drinking gallons of ale. However we did called at the Manor Farm Rainhill purely on the off chance for a quick meal around lunchtime (Saturday 22nd February) whilst passing on the way home “Wish we haven’t bothered” Firstly let me say that the staff were very pleasant when taking our food order and the pub was reasonably quiet when we arrived. We waited we waited we waited for the food at the table.. nothing, thinking maybe they just need a little reminder that we hadn’t fallen asleep in the corner and we had no desire to spend all night waiting. The food order was long overdue and the pub was now beginning to get busy. Finally before we were bedding down for the night a young guy brought the order to table 21.. Enough said the mixed grill meat offering was like cutting into rubber devoid of any flavour or taste! The alleged steak OMG was unrecognizable.. I just took it back and had a quiet word. On a scale of one (1) to ten (10) the other dishes served probably scored a pathetic two (2) Too be fair we did actually get a refund for the alleged mixed grill. So! If you are reading this review and have any thoughts about having a meal at the Manor Farm Mill Lane Rainhill the advice from this world wide traveler and quality food lovers is just forget about it.. The Manor Farm is great my mum use to own it and then it was still great but now john(who is always in his office) he is great and his is making the pub even better
