Mannings in Ipswich

Not been here before so thought would nip in for quick drink. It's an early bird pub with its 10am opening. Staff are friendly and it has free WiFi and an outside smoking area to the side. Does do food but didn't try it, will do next time. Good generic boozer.

This has been a regular for lunch times on a Friday with work colleagues, now we visit Manning during mist nights out in Ipswich. Very reasonable prices and good friendly service.

When we were in there was sport on all the tv's which you can't really escape from. So we went out in the courtyard out back where was music playing. This is ok if it's not cold or wet.

Never eaten here but great pub and prices and great place for people to hang out and be able to have a few drinks

Honest David's reviews It's an old pub.. and it shows, if you want old old this is for you. If you want nice old..walk on bye. All tvs on horse racing, tables used by old locals, outside area (smoking) not nice and had the feeling of a drugs den. Staff were polite and drinks ok.. I'm sorry its only 3*** from me, it just felt as an outsider we weren't welcome.

OMG I adore this pub and even more so now with the wonderful landlady and friendly, funny, helpful bar staff. If you are looking for a traditional English pub, superb prices, great fun friendly safe atmosphere then this is a must when in Ipswich. Dog friendly, Bobby Greenmile my Parsons Terrier loves it in here. Spacious, lovely seating area located at the back of the pub.

Great place to chill and be around others within the Ipswich community. Inexpensive drinks, sometimes have event nights like karaoke and live DJs. Dog-friendly pub, the staff are friendly and helpful. The security personnel are professional and polite.

Used to be a lovely traditional style pub full of original features; now a grey-painted, soulless generic dive full of TVs showing football, and frequented by people who are probably barred from every other pub in town. Avoid.

£6.60 for two pints of Staropramen served by excellent bar staff? What’s not to like. Kids not allowed but hey, that’s ok, there’s a place for that

Popped in on a Saturday night. Good traditional English pub. Football shown, decent atmosphere. Nice selection of beers on tap and not too bad inside. Last orders called a bit too early though - would have liked to have been in for longer!

Met friends here 13th March - have used this pub for past 30 years on and off - Service was appaling - Young Bar maid ignored 3 of us for 10 + minutes, served everyone and anyone down one end of bar whilst having no knowledge of who had come 1st, this was the 1st and last drink in Mannings disssapointed as this was MY recommendation and will not be hurrying back. POOR - ended up in Mr Keos establishment around the corner PRICEY but a world away from Mannings literally

Always a good atmosphere in here. Top drawer bar staff and - more importantly - great beers, with good prices.

Mannings recently had a refit and and is now a "sports bar", they no longer serve any food apart from crisps and pickled eggs, and it is now much more of an "older man's pub". Whilst the staff are always friendly and helpful, it can be hard to get to the bar as it is usually packed should to shoulder with regulars and you can't get through, and the service can take forever as they generally only have one person behind the bar at lunch time. They don't take card payments, which can be inconvenient. The new manager seemed friendly enough, but I haven't been back in there since to see if he survived his first week. I have been in there once when they had Bingo on over lunch time, it was too loud and spoiled what should have been a peaceful lunch hour. Although I won't give up on Mannings, it's not somewhere that I will be going as often.

I went there to see old friends but the place had changed beyond recognition - not for the worse however. Service was good, beer was reasonably priced and quick service.

Recently returned to Mannings. Hadn't been for a while as prices were very high. We were very pleasantly surprised. Prices are now very reasonable. The atmosphere at weekends is always good. All different age groups seem to like it equally. Can be a bit noisy but we don't mind. There are two outside areas and the one right at the back of the pub is great in the summer - a real little sun trap. Have to assume under new management. 👍

Au coeur du centre-ville historique d'Ipswich. Pub très sympa, avec de multiples télévisions. Parfait pour les amateurs de sports. Le prix des consommations est très bas. Donc, vous pouvez aller au pub, prendre un verre, ou plusieurs sans crainte pour votre portefeuille. L'ambiance est bien mais sans plus. Le personnel est également très sympathique.

Have always had good time when been in here. Cosy, atmospheric pub with different areas to sit. A bit rough and ready but adds to the atmosphere. Quick service at the bar. A range of beers. Best thing though is there always seems to be great music playing!

Centrally located near the market and town hall. It's an ok place for a pint. It's probably not a place I would go out to in the evening, but if you are in the area then it's worth a visit. Wasn't very busy when I arrived so service was pretty quick. Food menu looked ok but I just decided on a drink.

We have been going to Mannings regularly for the last 30years for a snack/drink during our shopping trips as it was a nice cozy traditional pub with lots of real ales and VERY fast food service.. Went in for something to eat and drink last week and was shocked to find NO FOOD - informed by the barmaid that the kitchen is now permanently closed, they will not be doing food any more.. You are now restricted to a diet of nuts and crisps. Now impossible to have a conversation, must have been no less than 6 TV's mounted throughout the pub, all on full volume on sky sports - and a virtually empty pub!. Was informed that it is now being 'refurbed' and will change into a lager and sky tv sports bar. That unfortunatly will be our last vist to Mannings, thouroughly dissapointed.

El servicio era bueno, pero el lugar era horrible, el amontonados tablas sandwich, mesas y sillas justo dentro de la puerta era realmente desagradable, como el número de focos de luz. que falta No sorprende que sólo había una media docena de cliente mientras que, a la vuelta de la esquina, la Galería Taberna estaba abarrotada. Tan triste que este antiguo encantador pub es bajar por el pan! Bebimos rápidamente y a la izquierda!

He venido a casa por Navidad a ver a mi familia de Polonia. Mientras vivíamos en Ipswich recuerdo Mannings, con un ambiente fantástico y maravilloso servicio.

Mannings is situated right in the middle of town and is a good quality, old fashioned kind of pub. Welcoming atmosphere, great bar staff and plenty to enjoy, with lots of taps on offer. Highly recommended.

Whenever on a night out always have to visit Mannings as we love it. It is a real pub, the bar staff have personalities and not afraid to have a laugh and if there of a lunchtime and you have something to eat, the food is nice and reasonably priced.

I was in Ipswich for a couple of hours and popped into Mannings. Nice ambience and friendly staff. They had 6 Adnams beers on draught as well as London Pride and Sharpes Atlantic. All in all an excellent real ale pub. I also had a lovely door step sandwich.

As a pub, it's fine but not exceptional. Adnams ale, plus Pride and other local beer. Well situated on the Cornhill overlooking the square with seating out front, in the adjacent 'garden' (yard), or inside.All feels a bit scruffy and in need of a deep clean.Light lunches and it has to be said, the sandwiches are good.

I've been here many times over the years. Their beer is great, their location in central Ipswich is fab - you order and get your food very quickly and it's lush! End of! The service is great too!

Stopped for a beer, as there were outside table to sit. Waited a very shot while to be served, no probs, was served. I said my order a pint of f......., She said nothing, poured my drink, I said " thank you" she said what the price was. I handed the money, again nothing from her. I said "thank you" for my change. Where are the please and thanks from bar staff nowadays. We the public pay your wages (indirectly). A hello or thank you never hurt anybody. Disappointing visit.

I often had a few pints in this pub untill recently when the service went downhill fast. Not sure what has happened perhaps management change but if the carry on like this there will be no cutomers left!There is one barmaid that seems to always be on early evenings and tries her best not to talk, this includes asking what you want for a drink! She then is unable to pour a correct pint and when asked to top it up she clearly shows her dssmay? Not sure why that would be as I asked for a pint of beer and I expect a pint of beer!!

Came here for a lunchtime drink on a Thursday. We arrived at 1230 and it was quiet. Soon started to get busier with a mixture of shoppers and office workers. Nice old fashioned feel to it.Decent range of beers and lagers. Food menu has the usual pub standard faire with a few slightly different items. Drinks were reasonable and staff were very friendly. Nicely located on the market square next to the town hall. There is a seating area outside. Probably gets busy in the evenings, especially as the golden lion next door has now closed. Would return

Because of the reviews we visited lunchtime,have to Agee ,service instant with a smile.Ordered two meals delivered quickly ,hot and more important great food,tasty and home cooked.Lovely atmosphere,can eat in the courtyard if you wish.Happily go back .

Not been in for some time, nice to find the place is the same as ever,friendly good service and excellent food. Pity some other places do not understand what it takes to run a good honest pub. Will keep going back and recommending "Mannings"

Situated on the main Cornhill this provides a convenient place to enjoy a drink. Plenty of room inside and good choice of beers and ales to enjoy.

Have been here a few times for an evening drink and always loved the rustic decor and atmosphere. Decided to try lunch today with my mother-in-law and we both really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and a good size portion.

Was a little bit peckish stopped off to have a little lunch. The pub in the centre of ipswich was quiet small and friendly. The wife thought it was "very nice" but the food was quick and tasty, plenty of flavour simple menu but has the good old basic menu which the family would like Staff friendly that's all I could say about that

Mannings is a nice little town centre pub with very friendly staff. The drinks are more expensive than other pubs in the town. However, on balance, the food is cheaper than average and it’s usually very good, especially for lunches. There’s an outside beer patio area which is very pleasant in the summer.

We LOVE Mannings, it's a proper pub with lovely staff who are always so welcoming and friendly. My other half and I pop in here often and it's always a lovely atmosphere. The beer garden in summer was a real sun trap but the outside heaters make it just as cosy. I also love how the landlady often stands at the front door, she reminds me of a Pearly Queen (without all the buttons). The food is good honest pub food, there is a good variety of beer available so if you want somewhere welcoming to go then Mannings is your place.

After a long day shopping and sightseeing in Ipswich we decided to stop for a quick drink at this little pub which had some outside tables just to the side of the market in the town centre. Three hours and many pints later we were still there, enjoying the atmosphere, and would have eaten there if we had more time. Very friendly staff, good beer and nice clean ladies loos - who needs anything more!

A central pub and a good place to watch the market action on a sunny day; there is also a pleasant quiet terrace out the back. Pretty rough around the edges, including the food which is of the basic pub variety (avoid the breaded plaice); but the service has always been friendly, it's not part of a chain, and the thick layers of dust on objects in the upper reaches provide a real air of ye olde pubbe authenticity.

Looks nothing special from outside probably because it is n't . It is however staffed by friendly staff, cheap ordinary food and nice pint. Historic without being OTT abut it, slightly rough but I dunno it has something for the middle class traveller so don't overlook it on your way to Waitrose (which is near by )

I visited this pub twice during the past year whilst working away from home. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is a good age range and gender mix in the pub and the beers are superb. One of the best pubs I have ever visited.

Better class of customer to those in the vicinity, the others being Wetherspoons. Slightly more expensive but a great range of beers.

The service is really fast. Ideal for a quick meal. Food is not bad but i would suggest more friendly staff.

We eat here weekly for lunch as they are really quick to serve and the menu is solid. Cheesy bacon chips are lovely, as are the sandwiches with soft granary bread

Ich war her 2x als ich meine Großeltern besuchte. Man kann das Pub leicht übersehen, doch es hat schon von außen eine Anziehungskraft auf mich gemacht. ( Ich musste meine Großeltern erst überreden hinein zu gehen)Innen ist es wirklich gemütlich und mit alten Dingen dekoriert, etwas dunkel vielleicht, doch das stört nicht weiter. Zum Essen, alles ist gut, preislich auch ok und der Service nett und nicht langsam. Hier habe ich den besten Burger gegessen. Hab nirgenst vorher oder nachher einen ähnlich guten Burger bekommen. Mein Freund und ich bennanten den Burger (wie in der Serie "How I met your Mother") den "besten Burger der Stadt". Leider muss ich vom Österreich nach GB reisen um den Burger zu bekommen. Es gibt auch eine gute Auwahl an lokalen und typischen englischen Bieren.Was uns als "überdurchschnittlich großes" Pärchen aufgefallen ist, sind die kleinen Angestellten, wir stellten amüsiert fest, dass es sich bei ihnen um Zwerge/Hobbitse handeln müsse. ;) Wirklich herzliche Damen hinter der Bar und bei der Bedienung.Ein Pflichtbesuch, jedesmal wenn ich dort bin!

11.10 am Saturday morning . Greeted with kindness . Wonderful staff and a great pub , had such a bad experience at the premier inn Quay side just wanted to chill out .and by god this was the place for me . Would i go again you bet i would . And thank you to the very polite staff that made my day .

Nice old fashion pub right in the centre of Ipswich town centre, always good beer and traditional pub food, snacks and meals. In winter, the mulled wine makes a great drink after shopping.

I've gone to this pub throughout the last 5 years. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is yummy and good value for the price. It's a proper old pub, the service has always been excellent it is so welcoming to all ages and families. It's always the first place I think of for a quick lunch and catch up.

Always a good place to drink and eat. Nothing grand but how pubs used to be. The word "Gastro" could not be further removed from this place but sometimes basic is all you need. Pub grub and not the cheapest drinks but always a pleasure. Good central location too. Staff always friendly.

This pub offers great food and nice local beers. Its right in the middle so great to pop in while out shopping. Its not a large PH so get in early !

Good value, hot and tasty Sunday Roast ( Beef ) + a very nice wine and well kept Ale.Ice cream cake and syrup sponge were also good ( there were 2 of us ! )Great atmosphere and quite a history, since 1769Decor of an old and slightly faded charm, no plastic themed pub here. Recommended if you find yourself hungry/thirsty in Ipswich Town Centre.

Love this pub. No frills but good honest food and drink with great service. Popped in here today for a late lunch which was took no time at all to arrive. Type of pub that suits many different occasions whether it's a lunch break, stop off while shopping, catching up with a friend or just somewhere to hang out and read the paper.

Popped in here on chance on a light meal.Only had a sandwich as we wanted a light snack. BUT we popped in again the next day and we indulged in the menu. Definitely my place to set each time I am in Ipswich.Worth a try, food is beautiful, hot and tasty. Service is brilliant

Very we'll kept real ale, tasty food, great atmosphere. Can get very busy on Saturdays, especially if there's a football match on - recommended!

Been to Manning's s few times. No hairs and graces. You get what you payfor. The food is good pub food, and portion size is good. Burgers and sandwiches are particulary good, fully loaded. In the summer there is a beer garden out the back. Its a good proper pub. Def worth a visit if in Ipswich.

Wow what a sandwich lunch was had here there was as much meat as ther was bread VERY VERY tasty & what can you say about Adnams Broadside beer only one word can describe it .YUMMY.More PLEASE

Went inot Mannings pub on Sunday last weekend. Lovely inside and great friendly landlady. Hadn't been in pub for quite while. We are doing the Woodforders Ale Trail and this was one pub in the listing. Beer was good quality. Nothing was too much trouble for landlady. Pleasant surprise these days, as so many have staff are at most polite bur generaly not friendly. I will wriite a positive review whenever I come along friendly staff and welcoming atomosphere. Would definitiely pop in for lunch or just a beer if in town centre again.

I love this pub and i go there for lunch quite often, the sandwhiches are amazing! The staff can be a bit moody but that doesnt matter as they dont really serve you as such, perfect stopping place if you are shopping in the town, Good value for money to!

I have to admit being in hrere most days, but that, to me, says a lot. I am 51 and this is the first pub I have ever felt has been my local. It's a proper pub. Subdued, but cool music, great selection of beers and wine, and simple but perfectly executed grub.Drinks service is cheerful, food service is staggeringly fast, and the whole place is very welcoming.I don't go oftetn in the evenings/weekend, but when I have been in at those times service has been of the same high standard.Don't expect fancy food, just good quality, straight-forward, pub grub with a smile.In summer visit 'The Beach' - a painted Adnams bar towels scene out the back.

I went to Mannings a couple of weeks ago, was up in ipswich for work and heading to the pub every day for lunch, we went to Mannings all four days. Its a little pub near the high street, they have a large selection of food and a very good selection of ales, lagers and suffolk ciders. The food is out of the kitchens quite quick which was slightly worrying at first however none of us had any ill effects. All in all, very good place, would recommend for any one visiting ipswich and will visit again if I am up there
