Mangla in Sheffield

We - the whole family - are bereft at the closure of the Mangla. Put it this way, we have gone from a regular Indian takeaway (yes, I know, the Mangla is in Pakistan) to none. We have tried many Indian restaurants in Sheffield but none of them come close to the excellence of the Mangla. None of offer the variety of vegetarian dishes - pulses - that the Mangla did and none come close to the spicy hotness of the dishes.

I can’t believe some of these bad reviews . We have been going to the Mangala since it was a little takeaway on spital hill nearly 40 years ago . The restraunt is priced so cheap and it’s basic inside but the food is good so you not paying for the best service in the world it’s cheap . I just found out it’s closed for building work which I do hope is true and it is reopening again soon

There was food missing and the lamb was old. Avoid at all cost

Would have given 0 star. Only half the order came and meat curry was off. Phoned Mangla and they basically said we were lying. DO NOT ORDER from here. They give meat that is off and charge for orders and only send half the order.

I placed a telephone order for collection and upon returning home I discovered 2 out of the 3 curry dishes I was given were not what had I ordered. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Karahi and a Lamb Karahi but I'd received a Chicken Balti and Lamb Bhuna. I immediately called Mangla back and to their credit they did offer to correct the mistake. (Hence 2 stars rather than 1). However, the damage was done. I was now at home, with high expectation of enjoying my meal with my family. They offered to send out the replacements, stating it would take 10 minutes. The reality would be 30 minutes to cook and then another 30 minutes to deliver because I dont live nearby. I therefore declined hoping to reconcile myself with the curry dishes i had received. My annoyance is due to the lack of ability of the staff member to correctly take my order despite having verbally confirmed it back to me and not checking it before handing it over. Too much to ask? My annoyance is compounded by the fact the curry dishes I did erroneously get werent good at all (I dont have the patience or the time to go into detail). I wont be wasting my hard earned money there again.

Just had an on time delivery. Curries superb. Naan light and fluffy. All still hot to eat. Couldn’t fault it.

Absolutely shocking service, ordered our starters to have something different pushed on us, sat there for an hour to be told what we had pushed on us wasn't available and had to reorder our starters. Ended up leaving, ruined our night. Herd good things about this place and was really let down won't ever go again.

Poor. The veg curry was made with frozen veg. It had no subtlety of flavour and spice at all. I think the only spice it had in it was chilli. I honestly wish that I had just opened the can of Morrison's curry instead, as it is better quality. My husband got something totally different from what he ordered. We thought we would try this place again after having found it very hit or miss in the past but I wont be wasting my money again.

We've been going here for nearly 10 years, in recent times we found the place was dropping off, as some of the reviews show, service WAS shocking, but after this weekends visit we found a new sense of vibrancy, better staff and Mangla appears to have gone back to how is used to be. It's 100 mile round trip for us & we will defiantly be back

Ordered at 6pm, food still isn’t here yet at 9.21pm, rang up 3 times they fed me same rubbish saying driver has been sent out even though they said it 1 and half hours apart. This is the second time now this has happened. Absolute joke. Already paid online so can’t even get my money back!!

Ive been going to the mangla for 20 odd years and never had a bad takeaway i always recommended it to everyone including people from other cities who would travel to come here BUT the last few times ive been its been terrible something has changed i dont know if its new owners or what but the lamb is dry when it use to melt in your mouth and the curries (buhna) are not the same , must be using chesp ingredients I put it down to a one off before but its the same now after the third visit so after all these years i will be going elsewhere ,shame

Shocking customer service. Ordered online which said delivery would be 50mins. Waited an hour to check the order & kept gettin lied to from then saying “it’s on its way”. After 80mins I rang to cancel my order… which the person just hugged and hung up. 10 minutes later, the order arrived at my door which I said I’ve ordered elsewhere (for collection to be safe) to which he just again looked at me & huffed, called the restaurant and walked off. Won’t be ordering from here again.

Hi i love to go out and try different restaurants. But this Mangla I had really bad experience in the restaurant. I went with my family and staff told me 10/15 mintues Max food will be on table. once I ordered the food i was waiting for food for 45 mintues. And the food was really disgusting 🤮. I told the worker food is not nice he didnt bothered. Completely ignored me I paid and left. all night me and my family were sick🤮🤮🤮. Never ever going back.

Visited last night didn’t need to book as the restaurant was empty at 8pm on a Saturday. The starters were served had to wait for cutlery that said the starters were poor. Curry arrived they forgot the rice and the cutlery. The curry was worth the wait it was beautiful. The staff are very friendly but too relaxed waiting for cutlery while hot food is on the table for me is not good, this restaurant is very basic, but this is reflected in the price as it’s very cheap. Would I visit again, unfortunately not due to poor starters and lack of service

If I could give minus stars I would, it's the worst curry we have ever had everything was cold the lamb tikka starter was burnt and tough the chicken tickka massala was disgusting naan breads were like crisps what a waste of £34.50. we will never order from here again.

I was first introduced to the Mangla as a teenager, it was the first curry I'd ever had, and now a 40 year old I've never looked back since, granted I've tried other curries over the years but nothing and i mean nothing has come close, great tasting food, long live the Mangla!

I usually I don’t write any review, make me sad I wasted my money and really no tasty food, and is expensive not deserve, I really I will never go there anymore, and I don’t really recommend anyone to go there

Visited here with some family friends following a mouth watering food discussion and a serious curry craving. Sheffield of late has lost the majority of its curry houses that serve a proper traditional style curry. Mangla came into conversation following reminiscing of times of old and we just had to visit! We ordered 1kg Lamb Karahi on the bone, Prawn Methi (not on the menu, but whenever I ask them for it, they always make it just so perfectly), Fish Karahi, Tarka Daal, Pilau rice, Keema Paratha, Garlic Coriander Naan and some Chapatis. There was some confusion about the size of the Lamb Karahi ordered but the waiter very efficiently, politely and professionally sorted it and got the full dish served in no time. The Lamb Karahi was truly amazing… full of flavour and the meat perfectly tender. Fish Karahi was lovely and flavoursome, Prawn Methi was lacking a little salt/seasoning but was still lovely. Tarka Daal was so creamy and tasty, one of the best Daal I’ve had in a restaurant. Of the breads, the Garlic & Coriander Naan was the standout. I wouldn’t be lying if I said I could have just had this on its own! A great meal all round. Keep up the great work! I’ll deffo be back!

Been going to Mangala since 80s when it was a little takeaway on spital hill . The Mangala is what it is! a very good curry for a cheap price so don’t expect super service like some of these people who left reviews on here ! Tell me where 4 people can go and have a good curry for £40 . You go there eat your curry and leave that’s how Mangala works it always has & for me that’s great . If you want all the service treatment and an average curry go somewhere else and pay £100 minimum for 4 people ! Mangala rocks and has for the last 40 years ! Good food that’s what matters plus I never had any bad service ever just good curry and unbeatable value !

Tasty curries, proper naan breads, nice rice. Packaging for delivery needs some thought and improvement. Had a few orders from here lately and it's been bang on.

Ordered food from Mangla last night at 18:55, received a notification to say food would be with me by 20:14. When I called to query this they tried to insinuate that I was lying about the time that I ordered the food because the request wasn’t accepted until 19:55. Food didn’t arrive until gone 9pm, and when the chap delivered it he had a slip of paper in his hand - again trying to prove that I hadn’t ordered the food until an hour later :-/ No apology, no monetary compensation - and not so much as a popadom to say sorry. Will never use again! (See pic Mangla! Proof that it was ordered at 18:55! Trying insinuate that a customer is lying is poor!)

Placed order through uber phoned after 1 1/2 hour wait ,told its on its way 2 hours call back can't find order poor service as always

Terrible service. Food was estimated to arrive at 6:30pm Ended up arriving at 7:46pm. I rang several times to no answer. After calling more than 40+ times someone finally answered. Staff were rude and food arrived cold. Didn’t offer a refund or any compensation. Terrible terrible Will never order from here again

The worst Indian restaurant I have ever tried. - The staff are not professional - the quality of the food is poor comparing to any other Indian restaurants. - Even I tried the delivery, it took them 2 hours to deliver the food and it was cold. I suggest that you don’t go to the restaurant unless you don’t have any other choice.

Delivery this evening was stone cold, I just hope we're not all ill tomorrow! Warmed it up in the microwave, delivery was less than half a mile away therefore shouldn't have been cold!

This is one of the best place for Indian cuisine in Sheffield. I love the food.

It's a shame to describe one member of staff ruin the dinner as he was very rude, he was in a hurry to clean up the table, but I have to mention the two others staff were very friendly, specially one lady with braids, can't remember her name, she was very welcome in until we leave. Thanks you!

Used to love this place and been back for years but the attitude of the staff has jus got worse the last few times. They used to do a good deal if you ordered a good amount of food. Just not interested anymore and the telephone manner is awful. Very rude and condescending

Do not order from here! Placed our order at 7, they said delivery would be 7:25-7:45. Hadn’t arrived by 8:15 so we called and was quickly told it was on its way and would be 5 minutes. It still hadn’t arrived by 8:30 so called again and they said it was nearby. By the time it arrived at 8:45, it was very cold and really didn’t taste nice at all. Order was also missing side items. Definitely won’t be ordering from here again as looking at the reviews this isn’t the first time it’s happened!

A we booked a table for 8, a family meal to celebrate birthdays missed during lockdown, and as always the Mangla was superb. We've been customers at the Mangla for many years and the high standards have never slipped, the menu has everything you'd want, the staff are very helpful and service is prompt. The restaurant has undergone a makeover and it's a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking for a very good curry and you're in Sheffield, you will enjoy it at the Mangla. I'd recommend the Begum Nagar,.a combination of Chicken, Keemanand Egg. As someone once told me, it doesn't sound great, but it is my favourite curry on the menu, it's excellent.

Heard great things about this place, but very unimpressed. We had takeaway and although the prices were average the portions were small ( the mini silver trays not the long ones ) This would be acceptable if it was great food but it wasn’t, I requested chicken tikka madras and I received plain chicken which was dry and not freshly cooked at all, the madras was also quite runny. The pilau rice just looked like normal basmati rice and wasn’t light and fluffy and didn’t have any flavour and to top it all off the naan bread was one of the worse I’ve had in a while - almost comparable to a prepackaged one bought at the supermarket.

Used to be great and previously gave it 5 stars, it seems to have changed owners. The food is no where near as good as it used to be, very bland, meat is dry and the onion bhajis are so dry and unseasoned it's unreal! Also not sure why the pilau rice came with chilli flakes in it.. we we're given no plates or cutlery with our food and constantly had waitresses hovering over us and trying to take our dishes away whilst we were trying to eat. I've been going for the past ten years but won't be returning again 👎

Order arrived one hour late and its not the first time.

First time ordered from here as heard lots of good things about the place how wrong... The food arrived cold don't recommend at all.

What more can be said? Best onion bhajis in the world, the largest cheese chilli naans I've ever seen, and a slap up meal for less than £15 per person. To top it all you can take your own alcohol with no corkage charge.

Not ordered for a while as the last time we ordered a few months ago the food came cold and everything tasted different..thought we'd give it another go tonight and it came 50 minutes late..prawn purree was awful and went straight in the bin..the rest was ok!!what happened to the mangla we've been going to for years with its outstanding food? Is it under new management or got new chefs? Sorry to say we won' t be ordering in the foreseeable future,,such a shame,,

Baklava to die for absolutely delicious well worth a visit and you can sit in and eat not expensive either

Great food and very welcoming people

Not been for a while so we thought we'd give it a try. Mixed grill starters, very nice. Chicken karabiner nice and spicy, lamb karahi was bland. Don't agree with them not being served in karahis as the bowls they're served in are cold and cool the food down quicker. Now the Paratha, well, it was more like a Deep Pan Pizza with no toppings.

Me and My Family Visited 1st time there , first of all 1 of the fork was not washed properly ,some bouls were chipped , then after a long wait masala fish arrived with long Hair fried and embeded in it , over priced for this quality and quantity , they never served us any sauce as my kids are very fond of suaces Chatni or Mint Sauce.. chonmp Masala was good later on it started hurting out stomaches , in short i did not find this place and food Hygenic ..

An excellent restaurant serving great food. As a point of information they do not serve alcohol but this took nothing away from an excellent meal.

Been reading through some of the reviews of the food recently and I agree with what most are saying!! Since lockdown they must have had new management as the food is awful!!! Delivery’s are late and cold, and even when we came to pick up or eat in the dishes have changed and the menu hasn’t! The fish Karahi was a dish me and my family loved and now it is a tasteless soggy fish not cod swimming in grease! Such a shame they would do this to save a bit of money and ruin their reputation while doing so! Me and my family will not be returning and my other friend and family have had the same issues!

I miss the mangla. Since the refurbishment it hasn't been very good. For over a year now their menu still states their Fish Karahi is 'cod' when in fact they have started using tilapia. Very misleading. Ordered a curry last weekend and it came swimming in grease and almost unrecognisable to what it used to be. Such a shame as it used to be the best curry house in Sheffield.

Order 40 minutes late, everything was cold rang to see if they had any estimates and was told it's on the way and the phone then slammed down. And one item wrong. Not even that nice, very disappointed

Ordered food for delivery, with stated delivery time of 30 minutes. We had to call to check where the order was. When it eventually arrived after 1 1/2 hours, it was sadly cold. Naan was nice, but the starter channa puri was unexpectedly sweet, like a dessert, as opposed to a savoury starter which is what we had (mistakenly?) expected.

From the moment a rung up I felt like I was just rushed to get of the phone ... then it took 1 hour and 20 minutes to come and the food was cold the portions where rediculasly small and the lamb jalfazie if that what they call it was literally just meat n veg with flavour no actually curry sauce at all ... ask for hot n it was mild at most ... Scam restaurant, I literally ordered from them, it says delivered on the app but it never arrived to me. I contacted the restaurant but they said they never received my order. Beside, I ordered since 8 pm and it's 11:30 already.

Placed my order at 6.09 pm through Uber eats app, order confirmed for delivery 7.15-7.45 that time came and went rang at 8.15 to be told my order was on its way rang again phone was put down on me so got my partner to ring at 9pm to be then told they hadn’t received my order they blamed there printer said it hadn’t come through so we told them to cancel. customer service is appalling they won’t be getting my custom anymore

Well we're do I start.....I placed my order by phone at mangla restaurant Sheffield no problem they read it back to me to make sure they had it right I waited nearly 2 hours for it to arrive but unfortunately when I received it the pickle tray was missing 2x starters were missing curry sauce was bland instead of spicy as requested and the the chicken was just plain chicken not chicken tikka as ordered.. When I rang to explain to them they was rude and so unprofessional telling me they wasn't prepared to drop of any missing orders or wrong items received or give me a refund for missing items they just said there's nothing they can do about it ... Safe to say I'm never going back again

I’ve been using Mangla for the last 20 odd years, if anyone asked for a recommendation for a good Indian restaurant Mangla would be my first choice, but unfortunately standards have slipped since the start of the first lockdown and the last 2 meals have been below average, cold when it arrived 1 item missing and very bland curry, awful onion bhaji sorry I’ll never be using this restaurant again

I ordered for Delivery , I've been eating curries for roughly 30 years ... And to my dismay have never ordered from Mangla before I used Uber eats to deliver the order and have to say This place is Delicious ! The delivery guy was very pleasant too . As for the food I cannot recommend Mangla enough ! Hot , fresh , and fast , I truly look forward to ordering from here . Many Thanks all at Mangla !

Pedido para entrega en línea como indicaba 30 minutos. Casi dos horas después y muchas llamadas telefónicas (me colgaron el teléfono dos veces) finalmente llegó. Luke tibio por lo que tuvo que microondas y le faltaba mucho gusto. Ojalá no me hubiera molestado en tener mi comida preparada en su lugar. No leí las reseñas aquí hasta después, pero mucha gente dijo lo mismo. No lo volveré a usar

He estado usando el Mangla durante 25 años y siempre ha sido el mejor restaurante indio y comida para llevar en Sheffield. Sin embargo, está bajo una nueva dirección y, obviamente, está dirigido por aficionados. Pedí un King Prawn Bhuna y me dijeron que no estaba en el menú. ! ! ! ! Son groseros e inútiles y definitivamente no regresaré. ¡Qué vergüenza! !

Fue el jueves por la noche, la visita al restaurante fue muy tranquila ya que entramos, no había nadie allí para recibirnos, así que nos sentamos en una mesa después de un tiempo, tuvimos que llamar a alguien para que tomara nuestro pedido, la comida era horrible, tan sosa que pedimos langostinos biryani, los langostinos olían mal correoso. Este lugar solía ser muy concurrido y bueno, pero se ha reducido a los estándares. Creo que la dirección debería estar al tanto de la situación. Terrible no volver allí de nuevo.

He dejado una buena reseña para el Mangla antes, pero desde entonces algunos de los chefs se han ido y el servicio se ha deteriorado. No me malinterpretes, la comida sigue siendo la mejor en Sheffield, pero no confíes en conseguir lo que pides.Es una lástima que la buena comida sea decepcionada por personas que no pueden tomar el pedido o empacar el pedido con todos los platos. Quizás el viejo chef fue el que mantuvo todas esas partes juntas. Todo lo que sé es que en cada pedido desde el cambio falta algo.

No such thing as social distancing. Saw a waiter 'clean' a table by dropping a rag (which he'd picked from a pile of rags) on the floor, then picking it up and wiping another table with it. No sanitizer used. Huge crowds of people and no control over them.

Took my husband and 2 grandbabys for a birthday meal really wished ide never gone we go as a familey on every birthday to celebrate. no more the popadoms was stale gave them bk to be brung out again still same not good this time waiter was very rude rowing with my partner over a curry my partner didnt ask for in front of my 2 grandbabys witch are 6 and a 3 yr old no customer service skills what so ever and to top it of swearing not good 2 when children around so my partner did not get the chance to have is cake what i bought what i ask to be put around bk ready after our food so children could sing to him thanks mangala for spoiling my husband birthday i will make sure my money will spend some where else next time thousands my familey spent at mangala

Terrible para llevar. . . ordenado a las 6. 30 un martes. . .Poppadoms empapados, ensalada blanda, cebollas y yogur de menta, todo obviamente del servicio del lunes por la noche. .Lamb madras era un rogan josh y la carne era bastante terrible. . .Los bhajis de cebolla también eran como cartón. . . arroz con champiñones nadando en aceite. . .En una nota positiva, el peshwari naan era comestible, sin embargo, el paratha estaba empapado. . .Los platos de verduras que mi señora ordenó eran competentes. . .Llamé al restaurante para discutir y se suponía que alguien me devolvería la llamada, nunca sucedió. . .Lo molesto es que dejaron salir esta escoria de la cocina. .No me sorprende que no solo coman o entreguen, no durarían 5 minutos con este estándar de comida. .Mi número está aquí 07837708488Si alguien del restaurante quisiera explicar este lío y tengo fotos para corroborar. . .

We ordered tonight the food took 2 hours to come but was worth the wait it was lovely can recommend the mutton on the bone 1 kilo sets you back £24 it feeds 4 easly my daughter loves the korma rice was spot on no complaints food was still hot will deffinatly order again

Very unprofessional staff. They cant even deliver the order in 1:30 hour. I ordered a simple indian vegitable curry which takes no longer then 30 minutes to cook. But they took 45 minutes to cook and the delivery never came to me. I never suggest anybody to order from this restaurant. I have raised a issue on uber though.

Sigue siendo el mejor lugar para tomar un curry en Sheffield. Y la mejor relación calidad-precio también. También acaba de ser reformado. Hacen comida para llevar a la mayor parte de Sheffield por una pequeña tarifa. Viajo desde Endcliffe Park porque no creo que ningún lugar de Ecclesall Road pueda tocarlo.

Only one word for this restaurant - Wow! As a serious curry aficionado this place provides the best curry I've ever had. After being originally apprehensive of ordering a delivered takeaway, my fears were quickly allayed as the food was delivered 5 minutes early and was piping hot. Moreover, it was a vivid tasting sensation, a rich and extremely flavoursome experience and a genuine joy to the taste buds on a cold evening! Well done Mangla, I for one will definitely be coming back for more!

Food come 1 hour and 15 min later food come cold said it would cost £16:80p over the phone by time they got to my door the delivery guy come with a £20 bill told them to take the food back absolutely disgusting behaviour but hey what do you expect from pitsmoor restaurant I'll think I'll stick with akbars from now on
