Mandarin in Ipswich

Have used Mandarin on many occasions and always found the staff to be polite and friendly. The food is good, with decent sized portions. I have never had a complaint about the food I’ve ordered, it’s our local Chinese takeout and will use often.

Recently ordered via just eat. After waiting 30 mins we received a notification stating our order has been cancelled. When calling to enquire as to why, we were told word for word “you’re in town centre and our driver doesn’t want to go there” Why take online deliveries if your drivers can’t be bothered to do the job they are paid to do. My road has disabled parking bays which only apply until 6pm and delivery was expected for 7.20. Incredibly disappointing service. Also the second I mentioned I would be leaving a review as I don’t find this to be an acceptable reason the man I spoke to’s attitude dramatically changed and he got very irate with me.

Excellent family run Chinese takeaway. Reasonably priced and always ready for collection after 20 minutes.

Disgusting food the bbq sauce is salty!!! How is bbq sauce salty? Chips were cold when it got delivered. Rice was meh. How this place is open is beyond me! I want my money back!

I ordered from here as my usual Chinese was not taking orders. I will not be ordering from here again the food is such poor quality everything smelt like plastic which is such a shame when you just want to relax.

Really poor quality. Went here as it’s local and my usual places were not taking orders at the time. Super chewy beef, horrible chicken, can tell it’s all low quality ingredients. So many better options available.

Became our Chinese takeaway of choice between 2019 and 2023 and preferred driving 20 minutes there to collect instead of other places closer to home. What I liked about it was that the food quality was consistently decent unlike many others with better reputations that we had tried in the area. For the first few visits I liked that the food came hot in foil trays and not those sweaty plastic tubs like others do. You could order via Just Eat, which was convenient and the price is cheaper than others. I had read bad reviews about service, but I only ever had an efficient 'direct' service - there was hardly any hanging around and always ready on time (in this instance I'd rather have quick than a smily wait). But then unfortunately some of the food the last couple of visits was not ok and Mandarin changed to plastic tubs. Thanks for some enjoyable takeaways Mandarin, but now it's time for us to go elsewhere.

Amazing food and very reasonably priced. I picked up from the shop and the chap who served me was very friendly 👍

Got food poisoning from this places If I was you avoid right plague I have called contacted environment or health as i'm concerned of everyone's welfare. I had the most horrible weekend at 3 days. Have been sick due to this place. Shdlwm and shdlwm I tmvlcl put tspent forty five pounds for the pleasure.

Thought we would try the food here, despite some poor reviews. It was ok, nothing special though. Found the special fried rice very greasy! The chicken was too salty too. I think we’ll go somewhere else next time.

The food was ready on time. As I asked for it to be done by a specific time. We ordered from here for the first time. The food tasted amazing. Really good quality. Will order from here again. I don't understand why this place hasn't got many reviews, As it tastes amazing.

Hadn’t used this Chinese for a while but happened to be passing so popped in… glad I did, food was great and have since ordered several meals as my last go to Chinese had gone down hill. If you haven’t tried for a while give it a go!

Seeing bad reviews, I've been using Mandarin over 10 years and never had a bad one, I know food I cook food myself, no other Chinese is as good, it's you moaners bringing the rating down its ridiculous.

I am sad to say that the food we ordered was absolutely terrible, I use to order from here all the time and it’s gone downhill considerably. The ribs taste like five spice not bbq ribs,hardly any meat on them just awful the special fried rice was stodgy and meat all fatty and cheap. And curry sauce all lumpy. I hate leave review like this but you have to be honest so they know to make better, the food just wasn’t up to standard, staff lovely but that’s it I’m afraid.

Please update your customers about the price increase to get prawn crackers!!! I look farward to these after spending £20+ honestly…how much do they cost you to include in an order when we pay this amount?

I've always had a great tasting food from here. Always on time. I've been using them for well over 10 years. Never had a bad one. Ok I've moved around a bit but they have always been happy to deliver to me. (Within reason) meaning around 5 miles away.

Food is tasty but prices have jumped up. £5 for large egg rice!!

Apparently giving them feed back on my burnt food resulted in the young lady telling me they have had problems with us before. My prawns and cashews where burnt as was the noodles. When I said about cashews I was promptly told there is no cashews in that. So I took the food back. Aghhh yes that’s a cashew but that’s only one I was told. I pushed my finger through the container and found more. What is wrong with this place really your customer give you genuine feed back and your response is that. Then I’m told I’m patronising here and to get out.most of your reviews on here are garbage and that is what your food is fit for I’m afraid. Massive attitude problem from the young lady when faced with feedback. Yes I have complained before but that’s coz your food is rubbish. Back to Mr Wings it is. At least you get good food every time. We tried to come back as we ate here for ages and it was Goodyears ago. But alas not anymore.

Ordered from here b4 and it was great. This time very poor. Mine was cold. Chips were burnt. Chicken wasn’t nice. Won’t be ordering from here again

Decent speed, usually flavorful and good portions with enough meat. Collection better than delivery though as sometimes not so hot.

Second time ordering from this "Chinese restaurant " due to being new in the area, Second bad experience if im honest! Food was bland, chips dry, curry sauce like water, and the house special chow mein should be re-named vegetable chow mein with meat elements. The meat in the chow mein was fatty and on the verge of rare!! As for the meal itself it was completely tasteless with the chow mein full of a not particularly nice tasting liquid!! Will travel further and spend more money to gain a more authentic experience elsewhere.

First time we had ordered from the Mandarin. Phoned through order collected in person. Prompt prep time. The food was great, hot, not greasy and very tasty. Really enjoyed the food. Definatly buy take away from there again

Ordered a takeaway via Just Eat and was informed the wait would be almost 2hours! When I contacted the takeaway directly (and they eventually answered the phone), I was told if I didn’t like it, I could go elsewhere!! Surprised that people can afford to be so rude to customers-will not be returning.

Avoid this place like the plague, especially if you have dietary needs or allergies. I'd barely got into my vegetarian chow mein before finding prawns embedded in the noodles. Completely unacceptable. My family will never give them our business again.

We ordered by phone and collected. Had a short wait but gave me time to take in the restaurant. I found it a comfortable, warm and tidy customer area. The food I took away was a quarter Peking duck with pancakes and veg. The portions for two was really very good. We also had a couple of other dishes and plain rice. All the food was excellent. The best takeaway I have had for some while. I can pick no faults. Well done.

I was going to give 2 stars, but now its the next morning and we both have stomach aches, so that's another negative. Ordering was easy over the phone and we were told up to an hour for delivery, so we were very happy to have it arrive in 30 minutes, piping hot. But then things went downhill. One item was wrong, but we accepted that was our fault from ordering off an old menu. Still it was a chance to try something new. The food however was very bad. Half of the ribs were nothing but fat or bone, no meat. The prawn dish was completely flavourless. The house chow mein was mostly not noodles but what was best described as scraps and offcuts of meat and other things, and again didn't taste very nice. Almost as if the veg was past its best. The hot and sour dish had little spice but was way too sour to be palatable. This is the fist time ever we have left food because we didn't want to eat it due to it tasting bad. And that was every dish! We've used this takeaway for about 10 years, and we've realised it's seriously gone down hill. Time to find somewhere else .

We have been using this Chinese for ten years.. But we will never return after being sworn at by one of the staff over the phone whilst trying to make an order for delivery. Totally totally shocked. I almost called the police after the call because it was quite threatening and abusive. If I could rate minus then I definitely would. Shameful behaviour by so called staff. So thanks for nothing Mandarin, especially after all of our business.

This has to be the only Chinese where you wait 2 hours for delivery and collection isn't much better with the wait time. Every time you order delivery the person on other end of phone is so miserable and the person who delivers is just as miserable. The food always arrived not hot and needs a blast in the microwave before eating it. by the time it arrives I cant be bothered to ring and complain as by that time we are starving :-( Mandarin used to be a lovely Chinese but my custom is now going elsewhere as it looks like a lot of people have done the same

my chicken balls was rock hard,kung po chicken was shocking find a bone in there also no flavour in any of the dishes i ordered what a waste of money chips was the best thing all the portion sizes was baby size also so greasy now feel unwell never again will i order from here.

Walked in and food was ready, so no waiting around.

Not only was it late there was an item missing from the order,the chips got here cold,the BBq sauce was like water and didn't resemble sauce or taste great,I am not happy with my food at all

Excellent food. Best Chinese in the area but long delivery time. Worth the wait but sometimes you just can’t wait an hour to two hours so have to go elsewhere.

First and last order from here. Ordered spring rolls (good), egg fried rice (good), szechuan chicken and kung po chicken. Both chicken dishes had the exact same sauce, but the sczechaun had chillies sprinkled on top and the kung po had cashews instead. Sauce was very watery and both dishes had more bamboo in than anything else.

Food was really dry and looked and tasted like it had been cooked ages before First time using them and Unfortunately Wouldn't use again

Food was nice but ordered vegetarian spring rolls and got meat which is an issue as the meat spring rolls contain prawn which my partner is allergic to and crispy shredded beef contains nut which my partner is also allergic to.

We thought we'd try Mandarin as we'd heard it was good and we're looking for a new Chinese takeaway. Ordered through the Just Eat app at 6.11pm. Delivery was due at 7.30, but it didn't actually arrive until 8. The food was not as nice as I was expecting. The rice was slightly undercooked, but did taste nice. We had the mixed hors d'oeuvres. The chicken skewers were dry and there were no dipping sauces for the ribs, prawn balls and spring rolls. I guess we'll have to keep looking for a decent takeaway!

It's a okay Chinese.. but it didn't wow me.. the curry and the chicken satay tasted almost identical too.. unlikely to order here again

Meal ended up in the bin. The beef in black bean sauce tasted burnt. The rest of the food was dry. Worst Chinese I’ve ever had. I usually order from Happy house. It was closed today so i opted for mandarin worst mistake ever. I’d used a voucher which I was then told at the door it wasn’t there problem and I had to pay the full price....take my advice always order from happy house 👌

One of the dishes was full of shattered plastic. Had to throw away most of the meal as it was mixed with rice before we noticed.

The worst experience I have ever had . The food is well below par . The only part of this order that was if you call it good was the delivery time and they were here within 15mins of order . All that means to me is preheated food tbh

Everything was lovely except my sweet and sour Cantonese chicken which was so hard and dry I had to throw most of it away .

delivery and service was good but the food was not. the chicken in the chow mien was chewy and inedible. the curry sauce was out of a packet and not spicy at all! the chicken balls and prawn toast were greasy and the oil has not been changed for a while and you can tell. thank goodness for the chips. it was the only good thing on there.

Took an hour and half for delivery only to find my chicken balls missing they were delivered bout 25mins later after ringing them but must of been cooked so quickly at highest temp that they were overcooked to the point you couldn't eat them very disappointed with my experience

Chicken for most part was way to soft for texture and tasteless even with sauces. Satay was extremely watery with no flavour and so was the chicken sweetcorn soup having no flavours.

First time ordering from here. Delivery was pretty much bang on with what was advertised. (around 50-60 mins) Could have been a bit hotter on arrival but nothing to fuss over. Overall, a decent meal.

An awful experience. Delivery was 30 mins late, got curry sauce instead of sweet & sour for chicken balls. Also instead of getting the chicken chow mein, I received what looked like BBQ ribs, disgusting! Never order from here - I would of phoned to complain at the time but after already having to wait I settled with with what I was given.

Driver arrived 40 minutes earlier than the estimated delivery time. This was great but he was incredibly rude to us on the phone and at the door.

Probably the worst Chinese food I have had in a very long time. With the exception of the soup, all of the food was over cooked, greasy and relatively cold when it was dished up. The soup was okay but it lacked any depth of flavour and was the colour of dish water. Needless to say I will not be ordering from here again.

1 hour 30 mins to deliver on a Sunday night (Food ordered at 8, arrived just before 9.30) This is too long to wait in my opinion.

Found a huge chunk of pork in vegetarian dish. The noodles were very greasy as well. Clearly I'm most upset (as a vegetarian) about a massive chunk of pork. Won't be ordering from here again as the food was over all disappointing.

Absolutely dreadful. After an hour and a half the food was not here, with no contact from the restaurant. They then closed and after calling, they stated the food would be another hour as they hadn’t started cooking yet! They reluctantly agreed to refund but after giving me a number to call, Just Eat confirmed that the restaurant had to call themselves. Not fit or equipped to run a business clearly. Terrible, avoid - no understanding at all.

The order was correct and the food was hot and deliicious. I usually collect my order but took advantage of delivery because of the current roadworks near the takeway. Worked well for me.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL..! The meat was so tough, it took some chewing, the general flavour was so bland, it was not much better than a £1 curry from my local shop. I wont buy from here again, i just wish i could get my money back???

last week I ordered a meal for my family. One of the dishes was wrong and we could not eat it. This week I ordered another meal but they refused me a refund on the wrong dish from last time. I told them I would never order from them again and they were not at all bothered.

Delivery times are awful was told an hour half wait but came after two hours. Food was cold & tasteless, will not be using again.
