I turn up at lunchtime and I am immediately greeted by a ginger-ish lady with spectacles who informs me that they are just waiting on chips and didn’t actually ask what I wanted to order. By the time the undercooked chips were “ready” (around 5 mins) she then asks what I wanted. I asked for fish and chips and she tells me she will have to “stick the fish on” because she “didn’t realise I wanted fish. Perhaps if she’d have asked at the beginning then I wouldn’t have had to wait a further 5 mins for the undercooked fish. Whilst waiting for the food she is talking to someone she clearly knows about someone she knows who was stabbed. Not really something I want to listen to whilst waiting for food and a bit inappropriate at the workplace when you have customers there. Once I got back to the office to eat the food, it was literally the most disgusting food I have ever eaten. Raw potatoes for chips, slimy fish as if it were fresh out of the ocean and curry sauce that tasted like aftershave. I would’ve preferred a bush tucker trial like they do in “I’m a Celeb”

I told him my order and he said they had no wraps or nan bread 🤔 how unusual?? At least make ur customers aware of what they will receive instead of thinking because they’re drunk you will get away with it!!! That’s Not how it always works!!!!

I work near this plaice (pun intended) and would have made regular visits. Sadly it wasn't meant to be. I visited a few months ago on a Friday lunchtime and was after a chip barm. The man behind the counter told me they didn't have their usual large barms, so did me 2 small ones instead. It was not bad and the chips were reasonably nice, but I did wonder how at a peak time they'd managed to leave themselves unable to provide the classic chip barm. No big deal I thought. Anyway, I visited again a few weeks ago, and again, was after a chip barm. The lady behind the counter tells me that they only have dry barns, not buttered ones as they'd run out of butter. I took what they gave me but again, not the good old chip barm I would've liked and I was again surprised they were in this position on a Friday lunchtime. So I thought I'd visit again yesterday and decided that I'd give them one more chance, they've had 2 strikes and a third strike would mean that I'd never go back. I asked again for a chip barm and to have it wrapped so I could walk back to the office and have it there. The lady tells me that not only have they run put of wrapping paper (really, come on!) but again that they only had dry barns as they'd run out of butter. Unbelievable! There's a Co-op 2 mins walk away! I said thanks anyway and left. Right then Manchipster Plaice, I'm really sorry but i wont be returning. We would've had a long standing relationship but its just not happening is it? If you're unable, as a traditional English chippy, to provide something as simple as a chip barm, on any of my 3 visits, on separate occasions over the course of many weeks, then there really isn't much hope for you.

This was a nice little treat after an afternoon in Manchester. Located next to the printworks it is a great location. Service was friendly, fast and efficient and most importantly, the food was cooked, hot and tasty! I thought the price was very reasonable and the portion size was more than adequate! It was nice as we weren't the only customers, it was fairly busy for early evening on a Friday night! I would definitely pop back in here again!

Really fancied a fish and chips on my lunch break this afternoon so thought I'd try Manchipster Plaice as I'd never been before. What a mistake!!! The chips were inedible, slimy (I've never seen slimy chips before) and cooked in dirty oil. The fish had no texture and the batter was vile, also cooked in dirty oil and absolutley dripping with it. The batter on the bottom was rock hard, sodden in oil and had a slight green tinge to it. To say im dissapointed would be an understatement, I couln't eat any more than 3/4 chips and although I tried to eat the fish I just couldn't stomach it. Please don't waste your money I can still taste the dirty oil almost 4 hours later and I've felt sick all afternoon.

I had spotted this chip shop previously and thought it would be a good place to get fish and chips on a hot day when it was too warm to eat in. We were in Manchester on Wednesday and it was a very hot day so we thought we would get fish and chips and eat them sat outside the Football Museum. We waited while the fish was cooked and then as the chips were scooped into the tray I thought I don't like the look of those. When we found our spot to eat them sat on a wall in the area outside the football museum we found the chips to be very greasy almost oily. The fish was nice though and we did most of the chips. I hope the next time, if there is a next time, the chips are freshly cooked as well as the fish.

Recently moving just 5 minutes away from this place i've visited it several times looking for a good traditional chip shop. One of the biggest problems i have with this store is the random closures!? Even today, i came past on the way home to see that once again, 6pm on a Monday night the store is fully shut, no sign to say why, no reasoning and the facebook page still says its open! Food is 100% a hit and miss too, pretty pricey for a basic small chips (which is small) and gravy in my opinion, but maybe i've just become accustomed to cheaper chippys. The lady who always seems to be the one serving is friendly enough, no conversation, but generally polite which sometimes, is all you need. But unless its late in the evening (when it's even open!!) the chips are so obviously warmed up a bit too often, I get they're not busy but i'd rather wait and have freshly cooked chips then ones double cooked. Now when the chips are fresh they are delicious, and the closest i've been able to get to a proper nice chip shop chips since moving to manchester, but it's such a pity that sometimes they're just not nice, and sometimes not even edible, with myself and my partner picking out the 'good' ones and binning about 3/4 of the serving! Even with the sometimes bad serving of chips i would probably rate the store higher if it wasnt for the random closures. Maybe im just unlucky, but at least 5 times now when i've planned to pick up a hopefully good dinner has the store been shut without even the decency to say why. (i've checked the opening times several times now online to even double check!)

To be fair, it is a chippy! Expectations were not particularly high all I ask is for the food to be freshly cooked, the prices to be reasonable for a central location. Both those things were satisfied. However the gravy was a bit lumpy, and the lady serving seemed incredibly stressed (which seemed odd, as it didn't seem that busy) that being said, she was polite and courteous enough. So no real complaints, but nothing to shout about. It hits all the reasonable expectations of a chippy!

There are no words to describe how awful the food we had from here was. The chips were cold, burnt, some were purple and bruised all over. Batter on the sausages was soggy and just full of grease, after a bite it looked like a just applied lip gloss! Obviously I know that it's going to have grease, as it's a chippy but this was literally dripping. Gravy was pretty much solid. I'd like to say the service made the whole thing slightly better, but definitely not. We were served by a woman who clearly did not know what a smile was and really could do with a laugh. Miserable. We won't be returning, the chippy on Cross Street is infinitely better in terms of quality and service and may be further away for us, but definitely worth the walk. We may as well have thrown our money in the bin...along with our uneaten food.....

I like to have a treat every now and again and I have recently moved to Manchester City Centre and was keen to try out the local chip shops. Fish and chips is one of my favourite "treats" but it is so easy to get things wrong. Manchipster Plaice looked reasonable and about 3 minute walk from my apartment and good reviews on trip advisor I thought I would give it a go! Presentation:It was evening time when I wandered down with my girlfriend, there were men in the shop behind the counter. Everything looked clean and bright, the atmosphere was good and we asked if we wanted fresh fish putting in.We ordered fish chips and peas twice, I had a quick chat to the lads behind the counter and they were pleasant and seemed happy to help. Timers were being used so it looked like some care was being taken so first impressions were good.FoodAfter a 5 minute wait our fish were ready and everything was all boxed up and looked decent, we even got tartar sauce thrown in! We rushed home and tucked into our food, however things were not good... =(Chips:Dry, rubbery and tasted like they had been sat for ages then reheated a few times then left to go cold again. Left that nasty claggy taste that chips do when they have absorbed all the fat they could. These were bad.Fish:Hot, but a big watery mess. Tasted like frozen cheap fish overall the best bit of the meal but rather tasteless.Peas:These were horrid, uncooked and utterly tasteless. Overall foul.Total came to around £13 So everything looked alright, but tasted rather disgusting. Ashame since I had been living in Milnrow recently and the chippy there did £3 fish chips and peas and it was pretty decent every time.

I find myself writing this email to complain about the quality of the fish and chips we have just brought home. This is our second visit to yourselves, the first time around 3 months ago was FANTASTIC! This prompted us to return this evening, I ordered 2 x Cod 2 x large chips and 1 x curry sauce. The girl behind the counter took the order and freshly battered 2 fish and placed in the fryer. Great I thought lovely fresh fish. After around 10 minutes they began dishing up the food, each fish in its own tray and each chips in own tray. Girl that served us wasn't happy that the guy had used 4 trays advising they were keeping costs down. Got the fish and chips home ( we live in city centre) dished up the fish and chips and all I can say it was inedible, the fish had no bite, it was like water, and the batter soggy. Also the chips were like they had been re-fried numerous times as were very dark, rubbery and tasteless. It leaves me to question if the fish was even cod? This was some of the worst fish and chips we have ever consumed, and want action taking to others don't have to waste money on such terrible quality.

Immediately next to our apart/hotel, and pretty busy for such a tiny place, we decided to give it a try. Being a Souherner, I Couldn't quite bring myself to pour gravy or curry sauce over my chips, I went for Steak and Kidney Pie, chips and mushy peas. I think the girl serving must have been new, because she didn't have any idea of what to do. The last of the butterred rolls were sold, and she stood and stared at the empty tray... It wasn't until she was prompted by the bloke who was cooking that she filled the tray up and plonked it back on top of the counter. The bloke wasn't only cooking, but taking the orders, taking the money and generally tearing around like mad while the assistant stood and looked blank. I was appalled to see him check if the chips were cooked by squeezing one between his fingers (and his hands didn 't look too clean!) then putting the pile of chips (including the squeezed one!) into the serving area to be dished out. The chips were burnt in places (grilled first, so black) and not so nice. The pie was completely devoid of both steak and kidney - just mush - and the mushy peas were cold. Very disappointed. Can't understand why it was so busy.
