Village Fish & Chip Shop in Manchester

Just went here but I go regularly. Fish is cooked perfectly. Chips are fresh and gravy lovely. Had a bit of banter with the lovely women serving me. She was also having a nice chat to the other customers.

Undercooked food and ice cold from the delivery driver. No one answers the phone at the shop, poor customer service. Avoid.

Apparently they used to be good.. not anymore. Avoid.

undercooked chips and pale, almost like they hadn’t been fried properly. They lacked the crispy gold texture wasn’t enjoyable , and I wouldn’t recommend the chips based on what I received.

Disappointing Experience with Poor Customer Service I ordered two portions of fish and chips via Uber Eats, and unfortunately, the meal was far below the usual standard. The chips were undercooked and pale, while the fish batter was overdone, making it extremely hard and unpleasant to eat. I called the shop to explain the situation and even offered to drive over and show them the issue. Upon arrival, I was immediately told that because I ordered via Uber Eats, there was nothing they could do, and I would need to request a refund through the app. Despite asking if they could at least replace the meals with fresh chips and a sausage, I was told I'd have to purchase the food again. One of the staff members explained that she had worked there for three years and that the food is always like this, which I found irrelevant to the situation. I’ve been a customer for years, and this is the first time I've had such a poor experience. After some discussion, it became clear the problem likely stemmed from them recently changing the oil, and it wasn’t reaching the right temperature, resulting in undercooked chips. The overall customer service left much to be desired, and despite a £28 loss, there was no way I could eat the meal they served. I won’t be returning.

The chips were undercooked and the fish had a weird stagnant water taste and was cold!!! Wouldn’t order again!

Order chips and curry sauce the chips were the worst I ever had very dry and hard had to throw most of them awsy as to hard to eat must have been under the heat lamps from yesterday but the curry sauce was nice definitely not recommend the chips very poor and top price for a chip shop

Used to be the best chippy. But has been taken over at some point recently, all the OG staff have left (which says a lot). The food is absolutely disgraceful. The chips are no longer proper chippy chips, they are like chunky frozen Iceland chips. Disgusting. If you want the worst chippy experience of your life, go here. To the new owners, please, for the love of god, give it back to the previous ones. You’ve absolutely destroyed a village classic and ruined literally everyone’s after club fish and chip experience. Soz, not soz.

Ordered food online , after 15 minutes order been cancelled. And no one picked the phone .Avoid this place .

Food is great but sadly the customer service ruins it. The staff were stressed out because it’s pride. Understandable but just be kind to your customers. I live across the road so it’s easy for me but i’ll pass from now on.

Ordered Fish & Chips and was very disappointed. It was my favourite chippy when I was a student in Manchester but looking at the reviews it's really gone down the hill. The chips were solid in the middle and the fish was slimy and undercooked with the batter leaving a lot to be desired. What a waste of £12. Avoid.

The best place for food after a night out! We came from Satan's and I knew this place was vegan friendly but didn't realise they have a whole vegan menu! Battered sausage and chips was delicious, with plenty of curry sauce on top. We had a little wait for fresh chips but don't mind that at all, and service was good!

I had chips gravy they gave me too old chips maybe the chips was there more than 8 hours . I never see chips hard like stone .never buy again from them.

Only writing reviews when something is genuinely that bad. The batter on the fish was raw, must’ve been in the fryer for 30 seconds. Couldn’t eat any of it as it made me feel sick. Ordered on Uber eats, restaurant forgot a battered sausage. Uber would only refund half the cost. Called the restaurant and kindly asked if I could get a free sausage next time I’m nearby to make up for the money lost. Rude male on the phone refused to help.

The only good thing about this place is the speed. Perhaps they could slow down instead of serving battered fish with the batter still liquid on the inside. And maybe slowing down could also help them remember to send out the missing items on our order. This place is only for village drunks who can’t comprehend what they are eating. Avoid.

I really enjoyed my visit to The Village Chippy! I am from The United States and no visit to England would be complete without a visit to a chippy.

Would give zero stars if there was an option. Third time in a row I’ve attempted coming here and closed. Even thou online says it is open . Such a disgrace. Used to be a great chippy, it should shut down

The fish is very oily, almost inedible, nothing has any taste. They give a huge portion. The atmosphere of the food bar is poor.

delivery driver ignore what I was saying on the phone to the point I had to hang up and give up on the order. the app changed the address to where I train which I've only used once. asked if the address was possible to change and the lady on the phone just quietly kept saying no as if talking to someone else. unfortunate events as I love the food here.

I was served there yesterday (Saturday night about 3 am) by a woman who clearly does not want to be there. She was really mean and went non verbal when asked to correct her mistake. This behavior was expected as it is a reoccurring situation but this was the final straw and we do not wish you good luck, cya

So inconsistent here. Sometimes it is alright and often awful. Tonight was the latter; chips dry and bland and seemed like they'd been warmed up from a few nights ago.

If you have a specific dietary requirement don’t order here. Had an allergy to something that I was unable to order without, only way to let them know was to call them after placing the order. Called over and over again at least 20 times and no answer. Thought I might be ok as the item in the pictures looked to be in a separate pot on the side but lo and behold it was smeared all over my pie. Food was also cold and that gravy is disgusting. Don’t do it to yourself, plenty of other chippy’s that are much better run.

Avoid and go elesewhere, chips were re-fried so many times they took on an orange colour, soaked in oil. Curry sauce was water thickened with flour and a sort of curry seasoning, absolute muck.

This place has really gone down hill with totally incompetent staff. Made an order and 45 min later my order arrived vut was the totally wrong order. Had new order put in. An hour later new order arrives and was wrong order yet again. Not to mention arrived stone cold and fury so must have been sat around. However, this is now common for this place to get the order wrong, every time I have ever ordered from these there is something missing from the order. I've let it slide in the past but this mess today was the final straw. I will never give these my custom again! There are much better chippys in town than this mess. How do you mess up an order that's written unless you simply can't read?

Be careful..they over charge you so you must check £8.05 for sausage chips and curry sauce..the menu says different, wont be going back and will be warning others..Vile

Very nice food but felt uneasy with an accusation. A bloke tried to take a bag of food that wasn't his and I was stood where it happened, I didn't do anything other than check the food was placed properly on the counter after it was returned by another customer and I remained in the same spot yet I was accused of trying to take it too. I get you have to be cautious but why would I still be stood in the shop if I was going to take the bloody bag? Was left feeling embarrassed as there were several people in the shop and didn't know how to react.

Person said its closed as they close in 5 minds and the member of staff said ."eeewww fat cow", Incrediclbly rude and judgemental. I went back to speak to a member of staff about the incident as this place is seen as a safe space and they confirmed that they had said eeeeeewww to my girlfriend for absolutely no reason as they did not say anything to the member of staff (i did). The member of staff waa the supervisor who also did not apologise for the comment the made towards my girlfriend when she was not even in the room

Food hasn't arrived, and the email system says it will get back to me "within a couple of days". Though of course, Just Eat has been quick and efficient about taking payment. Absolutely scandalously awful customer experience.

I ordered a curry chips today, which I have enjoyed many times before. I got given a gravy chips. When I went back to get it swapped, saying that I can't eat gravy because it's not vegetarian, I was told that the gravy was in fact vegetarian, but that the curry sauce wasn't. Now, I've had curry chips there before multiple times and been assured that it is vegetarian. Either way, whichever case is right, this is very upsetting to hear...

I've just had vegan buttered sausage and chips from here and they have an entirely separate vegan menu with such a wide choice of meat replacement. And the chips are a good chunky type. Proper chippy chips. I'll definitely be coming back.

Staff were fine and the fish was nice but only a handful of the chips were edible. The potatoes were full of bruises and growths.

First off staff were very rude when i walked through the door as if they didn't even want me to order food what kinda good place is that? Chips were horrible and the fish was even worse! Don't recommend this place at all.

Entered into the village fish and chip show, 2 ladies didn't acknowledge us at all. Food was pre cooked - helded in the hot hold so service was fast but the food was horrible. Dry, tasteless and definitely not enjoyable. Spent £20+ never again!

The village chippy in Manchester is an absolute gem. Open all hours for hungry punters to feast upon it delights..chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Just perfect at any time of day..fish is great soft white and flakey, wrapped in a crispy batter.. There vegan sausages are superb. The staff are super friendly even when they've worked long hours to sever merry and tipsy customers into the wee hours.. I've got to give Full admiration and thanks to the lovely Meg an Dee. Always the stalwarts delivering great food with a massive smile and big friendly welcome. Big big big thank you to both Meg and Dee, The perfect hostesses with the mostesses. 😊. They are a credit to the business. I've no idea how it would ever survive without them..Bravo..

The worst meal I’ve had in a very very long time. First off it took 2 hours to be delivered. When delivered, the food was lukewarm at best. 2L bottle of juice missing, chicken nuggets taste of cardboard. Mashed potatoes not even eatable and the gravy is like nothing over ever seen before ! Pride themself advertising a 12 inch sausage and you get 2x 4 inch sausages at best. Chips were also extremely mushy and felt they were undercooked. Absolutely terrible, AVOID !!!

We made an order from here, they sent one out of the 4 meals and then we couldn’t get through to any one on the phone to help so was not good service at all.

I grew up on village in the 1980s, work and live internationally now. Love a traditional chippy, prices a very reasonable and yes, it's clean.As I work in high end establishments involving food safety and hygiene and I was highly impressed. it's a lovely down to earth, warm, cosy and caring business. broke my foot on my first back in Manchester and they really were caring wonderful people. Tracey is a absolute legend,a real diamond, a keeper and I would hire her in a heartbeat in any service environment. thank you. This is how the whole village should be and I would recommend this place to everyone. Be nice, be kind in this little gem as they are not many of them left.

The fish and chips were delivered wrapped in paper, and the oil and the steam made the food very soggy. It's the first time I've seen a fish and chips without a container. Packing needs to improve.

Not a good experience. Went there at lunch time and ordered fish and chips. While fish was decent, most of chips were rock hard and just slightly hot so probably not cooked properly. Also, I asked for some salt but my meal ended up being too salty. No knife available but only some tartare sauce and a tissue just because I asked for it. Spent nearly 10 quid for a meal definetely not worth it!

This is my first time at this place. Upon arrival, the lady was smoking outside and said she was going to be a few minutes before serving us. She also claimed to be the owner of the place. In the meantime we're waiting I asked her a few questions to confirm their opening time. She then gave me a few hours (not sure if she was truthful). When she was ready she came inside and more customers showed up. When I tried to take a picture of the inside to show everyone, she flipped out and started to say I couldn't do that. She went out of her way to pretty much kick me out of the restaurant and demanded to see the picture. I told her I deleted the picture abd the one I had was blurry. Then she started to tell everyone passing by on the street that I took a picture and really was very upset about it. I hope you don't have the same experience and I never got to try the food.

This was my favourite chippy in Manchester. Until today. Ordered a dessert with custard with my fish and chips and they put the custard in a PAPER TRAY. It arrived with the custard absolutely everywhere dripping out of the bag. They had forgotten the drink and the peas and the chips are now oven chips mixed in with a couple of raw chippy chips? Honestly diabolical. Never again. Avoid.

The food arrived quickly but unfortunately it was not to be a nice meal. The food is bland and tasteless, the chips and chewy and feel like you’re eating cardboard and the batter is soggy. The curry sauce is bland and tasteless and although the gravy looks appetising and has a nice thick consistency the taste is very strange. Does not taste like a traditional chippy, very disappointed. Don’t waste your money here.

Avoid avoid avoid. I don't know what's happened to this chippy, as the food used to be gorgeous. The chips were completely burnt and weren't traditional chips at all - more like oven chips. The most shocking experience I've had with a chip shop. Must be under new management. Save your money and your stomachs! Utterly disgusting.

Original order was wrong but the restaurant helped me sort it out and delivered the food promptly and some free food as an apology.
